We were able to grab a spot on the patio before the bourbon activation that was taking place. It was giving local hang out, beach town vibes Our server was great - very attentive and helpful with suggestions. We ordered hush puppies to start with a Paloma & Blackberry Margarita. The hush puppies were delicious! Slightly sweet with a cinnamon whipped butter that was amazing! The cocktails left a lot to be desired - sweeter than anything and the taste of the purees/juice was off for both. Our lunch options were fabulous! Our server Lucy couldn't have been more sweet and fun, even laughing at my dumb joke about celebrating Grandma's 21st bday. Made a reservation and was 5 minutes late, they called to make sure we were coming and reconfirmed. We got seated upon arrival. Kailey (sorry if i spelled your name wrong) was amazing. She had firecracker energy with amazing customer service...Great recommendations and everything you want for service. They had a great beer selection and the menu was full of options for the entire group. We asked questions and Kailey had all the answers. They let me sub out rice for angel hair on the etoufee, which was great and showed its not just pre planned. The room was moderate in noise and felt very comfortable. Quaint coastal dining. Love the ambience. It's a cute cozy place to grab a bite to eat and drink, all less than a 5 minute walk from the beach/boardwalk. I ordered the Captain Hook chicken sandwich. Understaffed and the restaurant has a lot of rules and regulations, for example, if you walk in with a nearly empty can of soda, you are asked to go outside to drink it. Also, we repositioned the chair to sit so that we could see the water at a better angle, and the waitress said it was blocking an aisle, yet it was far from the passage way and steps. Lovely, charming and cozy. I love that is so close the beach and boardwalk. There's nothing better than a waterfront stroll after brunch. The peach Bellini was refreshing and vibing as was the mango cider I was nice and lubricated. The shrimp and grits is savory with a lovely kick of spice. This was my favorite date night spot when we lived in Maryland. The seafood was amazing! We always got seafood pasta with delicious garlic bread, crab dip, dynamite/bang bang shrimp, and some of the beautifully crafted cocktails. My favorite cocktail was one of their cranberry martinis. I think it was... They served it with beautiful garnishes and it was so smooth and refreshing. The service was always very friendly and very quick. The atmosphere was gorgeous whether you were sitting out on the porch or patio taking in the night air, or inside by the fireplace. I miss being able to have date night, just a few steps away from the North Beach boardwalk and all the cute little shops along the route. I wish I could give this place 5.5+ stars because really it's got such a special place in my heart. read more

We ordered the meatloaf and ravioli butternut squash and a cesar salad. What a big mistake, the squash ravioli was a rip off 7 ravioli for 17.00 dollars and greasy. At least they were cooked nice and crispy, the chicken sandwich was very good the burger was good just wish it was cooked to the proper temperature. They do have a very nice drink menu, I wish they would get large ice cubes for the bourbon drinks. If I'm going to pay top dollar for top shelf bourbon I surely don't want a cup full of ice cubes. read more

Tonight we came in early, had mediocre service, just a little too relaxed, kitchen communicated a half hour in that they didn't have salmon, not when we ordered And my jambalaya was room temp and whatever the substitute fish was my wife could not cut with the knife provided They service then acted like I was asking for too much so Let the drunks love this place cause you need to be and drunk to think it's a good place In the end,they didn't even charge me for the drek food, they were most interested in my bar bill and wanted the cash for alcohol, food comes second to alcohol in this place, it's not the fine restaurant it pretends to be just a bar with some over priced bar food, terrible, wish I went elsewhere on a Friday night with my wife, save some money and trouble by finding another place, these people are posers read more

We had a reservation but had to wait with 6 2-tops and 2 4-tops open. Our waitress went on break which confused coverage. All night, the servers took food to wrong tables. The table next to us, seated before us with same waitress, never received their entrées but they did get OUR orders, packed into to-go containers. The clue was they comp'd them a gluten-free dessert after they had hust finished off 4 pretzel rolls. Their resolution was to unpack, plate, and serve our entrées (no longer fresh or hot, but tasty) and charge those next to us for their appetizer and possibly the extra pretzel rolls. The atmosphere is busy and the restaurant is surprisingly spacious which you wouldn't believe by just looking at the outside. What we had : Fried Pickles - Hands down the best I have ever had. Thinly sliced and crunchy batter paired well with the house made spicy ranch. Hushpuppies- These were good; the honey butter (house made) made them insanely good! Hook Fried Chicken Sandwich- hefty portion of fried chicken breast on a delicious brioche bun. The chicken is tossed lightly in another house made sauce "hook sauce" which played games with my mind. No too spicy , not too smoky, not too sweet, just a perfect blend of all 3. Buffalo Chicken Tacos- unique twist on the taco made with fresh and flavorful ingredients. Another generous portion . All in all. Hook & Vine offered me and my wife a 1st time experience of an explosion of flavor and unique delicious dishes. So so disappointed. We were here a year ago and it was fabulous. The Bloody Mary had basically a salad coming out of the top and a full strip of apple smoked bacon. Today it was small toppings and no where near fabulous. Today they are out of the fish sandwich, which we loved before. The chicken sandwich was "ok". The cobb salad was "meh-I had better at a tavern the other night", and the ceasar salad was gas station quality. The side of fries was like it came from a kids meal. Waitress eventually had more delivered. Service was so much better last year as well--the wait for service this time was confusing given the staffing amount. I've always liked Hook & Vine, but it seems they just don't care about service or quality anymore. At lunch today, the (simple) burger and fries took almost thirty minutes, and the fries were served cold. The service was slow and the waitstaff couldn't be bothered to check on us. Had to ask for water several times. The strange thing is the constant deliveries brought in and dumped in the main dining area. Lots of noise coming from the kitchen. Never offered us a beverage other than water nor were specials suggested. We ordered hush puppies which were dry and NOT drizzled with honey. The crab soup had lots of shells. The chicken piccata had NO lemon, capers nor was it served with garlic bread. Very disappointed. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very cute and well decorated. I had ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich which tbh i wasn't the biggest fan of. It really didn't taste that well and was more of a letdown than what i'd expect a crab sandwich from a beachside seafood restaurant. My husband had the fried fish sandwich, and seemed to enjoy it so maybe I just had bad luck with my order. The hostess and staff seemed friendly enough, but our waitress didn't exude any similar friendliness. She had kept her words with us brief and seemed like she's rather not be there. I give people the benefit of the doubt and she's welcomed to feel how she feels, but it did put a damper on our experience. I went here by myself after a fun beach day. I sat at the bar. It's a very cozy bar and I liked that the stools were comfortable. The bartenders are super kind and knowledgeable about all the food and drinks they offered. I got the blueberry and lavender Mocktail with the crab dip, and both were divine! The mock tail was very refreshing after the day at the beach, and the crab dip was very well seasoned and had a good amount of crab meat incorporated into it. The pretzel breadsticks were super crunchy on the outside and super fluffy on the inside, and they were very hot and fresh. All and all I do recommend this place to anyone who is spending a day at the beach. It's not that far from the beach maybe a couple blocks so you can walk. However, if you want to drive, it's a it's a two minute drive. Parking is very limited in front of the building, but I would suggest parking down the street and walking. read more

I visited Hook & Vine for dinner recently while in the area for a festival. I think it's cool that the restaurant was formerly a house. Service was good but slower due to the festival outside. I loved the Halloween decorations on the walls. I ordered the Crab Cakes & mashed potatoes for dinner. The Crab Cakes were delicious but I wished they had the sauce inside instead of dipping it in the cup. The mashed potatoes were also good but I think some garlic would bring it to 5 stars. Our server was Krista K. She was amazing Good vibes to her all year round Hook & Vine is near the boardwalk with indoor and two types of outdoor seating. There is the shade room on the deck, or the exposed seating fully outside. If the weather decides to coordinate with me and my friends outings, I will always recommend this! If you aren't afraid of messy and want something with a bright flavor profile, I'd recommend the Shrimp Tacos with a side of Brussel Sprouts, loaded with the glaze if you're feeling it. I come here almost every time I'm at my beach house. Unfortunately, not the usual level of great food at this visit. We had 4 people in our party and ordered deviled eggs, French toast, breakfast taco, a big hook and a little hook, each took a LONG while to come out, one at a time. Devilled eggs were tasty, but the bed of spring mix had leaves that were yellowing (getting old). French toast had fresh berries which was great, the toast part itself was dry and not very eggy. Tacos were good and the grits that came with them were nice a creamy. My poor friend's dish came out with scrambled eggs when she had ordered over easy. The redo finally came out after the rest of us were done. My other friend who ordered the big hook, also had over easy eggs that came over well. And his potatoes were not good and the toast didn't arrive until he mentioned it to our server. We did feel like our server, Brittany, was very accommodating and on top of filling up our coffee and water refills. And someone did come out to apologize about the scrambled egg mix up. Soooo happy we happened upon this great spot!! Our trip was actually to John's Hopkins in Baltimore, but we decided to stay in Chesapeake Beach and also explore North Beach. We ordered crab dip that was probably the best we've had! It was amazing! We got cream of crab soup, berry salad and shrimp and grits. Every time we come here I am so impressed with the food and the quality of service, but you can tell there's something going on in the kitchen. I don't know what kind of drama exists between the kitchen and some of the servers but about 50% of the times I've visited on a busy night we've waited for food our order has been delayed, misplaced, or we were not communicated with on how long a certain appetizer or dish would take. In some cases, most of our table has received their meal, but one person is waiting on theirs for another 10 minutes. I will continue to come here as the service staff is always very apologetic and clearly they are in a stressful position or understaffed, and the food is so damn good (once it arrives)! read more
