This is based upon my own experience and opinion: Horrible! Interesting when you call this place it either is continually busy, or they just want you to leave a message on voice mail! I don't quite understand all of the 5-star rating postings. Regarding my own experience, I definitely would not recommend. I tend to think with so many 5-star ratings, and the poor customer service I have experienced, they are posting their own 5-ratings. Even the best businesses have some less-than-five-star ratings! I point out some of the problems. He must not be too interested in correcting these workmanship issues, because despite numerous telephone calls, his company never called back. He came out to take a look, but never came followed-up to fix the workmanship issues like, unfinished flashing around one of the skylights, flashing set too close (touching) to the barge boards, which resulted in the wood trim (barge boards) rotting out -- to name a few issues. What is even more mysterious is when you the company (503-628-6322 -- as posted on their Website), I always get an eternal busy signal. In addition, there actual address (location) posted online (before and after the pandemic) is (16055 SW Walker Rd #110, Beaverton, OR 97006) which is a post office box next to the Fred Meyer on Walker Road in Beaverton, Oregon. I've been told such a post-office-box-only scenario is something consumers should most often avoid. My friend who used to be a bank examiner for the FDIC said this was very indicative of a mismanaged and/or nefarious company. My friend said in the finance world, such PO Box scenarios have a nick-name as a place to send your: "Payment Only" -- meaning that such a business doesn't regularly intend to pay their bills or honor our word/contract, or the law. According to the Secretary of States Office David Somerville is an authorized representative for this company. In conclusion: I got a sense that the owner was not a roofer, or a very good roofer, because when he was on the roof he was standing on the ridge roof cap. This is something you NEVER want to do! No follow-up to correct workmanship issues; Not honoring your workmanship contract or your word; No answering your phone (eternally busy); No designated place of business, but just a PO Box. Are all good reasons NOT to do business with Ability Plus Roofing. What a charlatan! Recommendation to Karl: Maybe you should change the name of the company to: Inability Invisibility Roofing? Ability Roofing replaced our roof in January, in the rain and they did a truly amazing job. Even though it was raining they kept the inside of the house dry. They gave me daily updates of where they were in the process and any challenges they came accross. I have an older house which needed quite a few panels replaced because of dry rot and they did a great job of fitting the new panels into the existing roof. There quote was pretty much right on, I did pay a little more but that was for the new panels which I was already of aware of what the cost would be so there were no surprises. Beware of Ability Roofing for repairs! We contacted Ability Plus Roofing for an estimate on replacing our failed ridge caps iOctober 2023. On their recommendation, we agreed to have them do a repair instead of a full replacement. Their company assured us that this was not an unusual repair for roof caps, and that they performed this work regularly. A full contract of the work to be completed was agreed on to include fully seal hip and ridge shingles/ridges and seal all exposed nails. After their employee came on Oct 31, 2023, and did the job, we were supposed to receive pictures of the work completed. The employee didn't let us know he was finished with the job, he just left at some point in the day. No pictures were provided despite multiple requests on our part. We received different answers as to why no pictures had been sent. The file was too big, the email address wouldn't allow the files to be received. An additional email address was provided, but still no pictures. However, we did get notification that our payment was past due despite not receiving an invoice. We requested a copy of the invoice, and paid immediately by check placing it in the mail that business day. When they had not received the check in 5 days, we received a call asking why they had not received payment? As the check was mailed, I couldn't explain this but did again ask for the pictures of the completed work. Ability received payment within the next day or so and we let it go, never receiving the requested pictures. During the wind storm on March 9, 2024, a skylight blew off our roof. We contacted a roofer who came the same day as water poured through the missing skylight. To our surprise, the roofer inspecting the damage to the skylight reported that the ridge caps r and nails had not been properly or completely sealed as per the contract. He proceeded to provide us with multiple pictures which clearly showed this problem. We contacted Ability the next business day and informed them of the poor work that had been performed and sent them copies of the pictures without difficulty. We requested a refund for the work not completed by Ability as we now had little trust they had ever intended to do the job properly in the first place and we were now needing to replace the ridge caps as first requested. Ability responded that they would not issue a refund, they were only willing to come and re-do the job. That was the extent of their guarantee. Unfortunately, as senior citizens we would not be able to access the roof to inspect any job done by Ability and declined to have them return. We are now out the original payment plus the cost of having the replacement completed months after torrential downpours over the past months. Pictures of the work done by Ability are attached. Homeowner be advised. Edited The response provided by Ability Roofing Plus is false. No pictures of completed work were ever received at any email provided. Had they done so, the matter would have been promptly addressed. The pictures speak for themselves. I would be happy to post the first pictures that show the problem prior to the job being contracted. I have them as well, and can provide them on request. read more

When we went to sell our home, the inspector told us the ridge was bad and had a few other things that needed fixing. We were pretty upset because we had had the maintenance done very consistently and were not expecting that repairs would be needed. This time, I immediately called Ability plus and they were able to fix the roof quickly and efficiently with a warranty on the work that can be passed along to the new owners. We've used this company various times over the years with great success but the new ownership does not stand behind their work product. Previous owner felt customer service was everything but this new group has yet to embrace it. While I wish them success, I have experienced poor quality and poor representation of the roofing material. Very disappointed! We would have Felt more supported if you would havecontacted the Certainteed representative and not just give me the phone number to call on our own. We have called him twice without response. In addition we had our old roof reviewed again and was was told that we could have kept it for another five years as what you had said too after the fact. Ability came well reviewed by my fellow Yelpers, and indeed they delivered! We had a small leak in a vent pipe and they fixed it in no time! Edgar was really professional with his inspection and set my mind at ease with the issue and the proposed solution. With the pending rainy season, I was somewhat disappointed that they wouldn't be able to address my issue for a couple of weeks. However, within two days of the inspection, I got a call that they could come right away to repair the issue. Now that's what I'm talking about! It literally took only 30 minutes to fix, but I appreciated Ability's ability (pun intended) to prioritize work and know when they could fit a quick fix into their schedule if time allowed. Most companies don't operate with such flexibility and knowledge. My only suggestion for improvement would be better communication when providing inspection windows and such. We hired Ability Plus to reroof our home, which had an 18-year old cedar shingle roof on spaced sheathing, with a Certainteed composition product. A+'s quote was detailed and almost 50% less than one we got from a comparable company. The pre-work communication was good. Our job, while not large, was complicated by having to resheath, and with multiple roof planes, sidewall conditions, dormers & skylights. The crew of four, led by Edgar, was very productive and finished the work in four days. Cleanup was done each day and no unprotected openings left. There were a couple minor internal miscommunications but nothing substantive. There was not payment due until the job was complete and they have a 10-year workmanship guarantee. I am an architect so my standards are pretty high, but I highly recommend Karl & Dave's company. read more

I will start by saying the employee that showed was a hard worker and a nice guy. That is where the 2 stars comes from. That being said, Ability Plus came out to a property I bought in November 2020 to inspect the roof and said there was work that needs to be done. Hammering in nails, sealing some flashing and replacing a few rubber boots. I expected based on past roofing experiences that it was several hours of work with several people. They quoted me $585. The work took one of their employees 54 minutes exactly. I was there. When I emailed and asked them to explain how they got to $585 for a non licensed employee working less than an hour with a hammer and tube of glue, they refused and said they dont break down pricing. It was based on the roof (1 story, low angle, 1200 sq ft), distance traveled (5 miles from their office), insurances etc. I have owned and currently own several properties, have served as an HOA President for many years and have hired many, many contractors over those years. I have never been so blatantly price gouged by any of them until now. At best, this was a $300 job and that is being very generous based on less than an hours work. Usually you have a labor charge and a material charge and things are very clear. I am not writing this based on the quality of their work but I would seriously question what they charge you if you hire them. read more

Contacted Ability for a roof inspection on a newer property. They set up an appointment quickly and showed up on time. After the inspection, they promptly communicated the inspection report by both calling and email. They simply explained that the roof was new enough and no repair was no needed, also there is no charge at all for the inspection itself. At this point I could not recommend Ability Plus Roofing. My roofing project has seen nothing but delay after delay. The crew shows up between 9am and 10am and leaves by 3. I never know if they will show up or not. Extremely displeased with their communication. Wish they hadn't tore into my roof if they were not ready to put a good day's work in on it. I was told they would come out on Saturday to finish up. Well, it's saturday and nobody is here. 70% of the roofing project is unfinished. Promises, promises. The only way I get updates about my project is if I call or email. Never once has the company taken the initiative to provide updates. It appears they are completely dysfunctional or have purposely taken on more than they can handle. I also just realized that they do not have an emergency phone number. So here I sit with a roof half off and no way of contacting someone from the company after hours or over the weekend. Ability installed our roof only four years ago. We paid extra to upgrade to the algae resistant shingle. When I called to talk to them about all the mess that is now on our roof and to see if they would come out and just look at it, the owner blew me off and told me he had better things to do than discuss this with me and then he hung up on me! Ability Plus Roofing replaced the roof on our house on approximately 6/20/14. We closed on our house on 6/30/14 and moved in on 7/3/14. (We split the cost of the roof with the sellers)They roof was to be a complete tear-off and replace. Special emphasis was made on repairing the back section of the roof where the sheathing was loose, they were to inspect the plywood sheathing and repair of replace if needed. Upon going up in the attic after moving in, we noticed the plywood was delaminating and warped in the attic area exactly where they we to repair and replace the sheathing. I called Mike at Ability Plus and he sent out an employee who upon review of the area, stated that had he seen the interior of the roof, they would have done corrective measures. That the employee stated that means they never went in the attic to actually correct or review the damaged sheathing area. The employee told me quote,"that this would go nowhere and I would need to contact the owner". I immediately contacted the owner and have had no response. I even enlisted the aide of the realtor (Sherry Francis) who has used this roofer extensively and recommended this roofer. Currently, where the sheathing was to be repaired there are soft spots on the roof. The sheathing is secured and not loose as before, but the plywood is still soft since it was not replaced read more
