What kind of "recycling center" doesn't take cardboard now?! I have made multiple trips to this place to recycle cardboard (where you are charged $15-25 dollars). Usually an easy process. Well today I was told they don't take cardboard now because it's priced dropped. Not my problem, you are already getting paid plenty to take the cardboard. Manage your expenses better dummy. They are slow. If you want to watch them destroy the documents (like sensitive financials and statements) you will have to wait. They don't just dump everything into a giant hopper and its done. They empty every box one at a time and put it on a conveyer belt. They make sure that the boxes don't contain any metal parts or hard objects (my boxes had 3 metal parts that I was not aware of) that could damage the shredder teeth. Their machine almost pulverizes the paper so its pretty much unrecoverable once its shredded. You CANNOT video them destroying the documents because they don't allow phones in their warehouse. They charge .70 a lb. so it costs around $80 or so if you have about 6 bankers boxes full of paper. Their prices are competetive because other places charge a minimum of $110 for 6-10 boxes. They destroy hard drives too but that takes much longer. If there are other people there, expect at least 30-40 minutes to get in and out of there. read more

Went to ABCO at the recommendation of a neighbor. Like most of us I had way too many statements, tax documents, etc. that needed to be shred. It costs $15 for the first 30 lbs. and $0.50 per lb over that. I had exactly 30 lbs. on this trip. Unfortunately there's probably more stuff around the house that needs to be shred. And I'm not even a pack rat. Stuff just accumulates. They have a pretty seamless process set up. Go around to the back door, ring the bell and they come get your documents to shred. Follow them inside, they weigh it and take a couple steps to the counter where you pay. Simple and easy. I went around 2 PM on a Friday afternoon and I was the only one there. Since we're in the midst of the COVID pandemic masks are required, but we all should be wearing them anyway. read more

First time customer here. They have a pretty seamless operation. Your material is offloaded and weighed. They issue a receipt and you pay 50 cents per pound. They do not allow cell phone use in building and have implemented COVID procedures. Off load area is in the back. It gets rather congested back there from nearby tenant work trucks blocking access. I went to ABCO because we had a stack of tax papers about the size of Mt. Everest, and (for obvious reasons) we wanted to dispose of them, securely and permanently. And, since it was tax week (April 13-18, 2015), ABCO did it all for free! I just handed them the mountain of documents and they invited me to hang around for a few minutes so I could watch all the handiwork go up the conveyor belt and into what could be the world's largest paper shredder. I had several boxes of old documents and old bills that needed to get shredded. After burning out my shredder at home I found ABCO recycling and shredding. It was easy to find, and a secure location. The employee helped us unload everything. Once it was weighed in we paid and saw the process of old documents getting securely shredded. It's $25.00 for 100 pounds and after that it's 0.25 for additional pounds. I had 116 pounds and paid $29.00. I hope to never have that much junk laying around my house. I brought my paper in a plastic container that I needed back. No one asked if I wanted it back and I forgot it there. When I called to see if they still had it they said yes and that is was my responsibility to tell them I needed it back. Granted that is true, but it is also their responsibility to ask me if I want it back. A simple we apologize for the oversight would have sufficed, but the person on phone had poor customer service skills. Said they can't be responsible for keeping it until I could get there, they couldn't drop it by my work, even though they do mobile shredding all over the valley. Wish there were more options available to get shredding done cheaply. read more
