I can't believe I haven't reviewed Abbondanza until now even though I had many, many lunches at this small Zagat rated family owned restaurant. I work close by and every now and then my girlfriends and I decide to spend our precious lunch hour at Abbondanza. I've tried most of their menu items. The chef uses lots of garlic and it often overpowers the pasta sauces. I like to have the grilled salmon, bistecca or the panini with fresh mozzarella, basil, prosciutto and tomatoes (it's so big that you can have two lunches out of it). The food is pretty consistent. The seafood is good. My only complaint is that every time we eat there, our lunch becomes an hour and half long gig. It doesn't matter if we're the only diners or if the restaurant is full, it takes a long time for our food to arrive. read more

Arrived one evening almost closing time, and they still took us without hesitation. Service was impeccable. Since the owner is an Italian immigrant, that probably explain the warm hospitality and wonderful Italian meals. My favorites were always the Veal dishes. They were REAL veal meats, not veal patties. We found Abbondanza via a coupon we received in the mail (Buy 1 dinner entree, get 1 free. Up to $12 value). Unfortunately I didn't see a single meal on menu that was $12 or less. Prices were average, $15-$19.00 for most meals. The atmosphere was cute. It has that warm, family-style feel to it, which I've grown to like more than the fancy Italian spots where you know you're overpaying for the food. The waitress gave us a rundown of the specials and I was lucky if I could remember the first 3. There were about 10 specials and we would've been better off receiving a specials menu. I ordered the grilled tuna with grilled onions & peppers served over linguini. The meal was delicious. I was a little taken back by the price, $25, when the bill came, particularly because the rest of the menu was significantly less expensive. I'm glad I didn't get the swordfish! We did have to wait quite a bit to receive our check, but weren't in a rush. That problem could be easily resolved by having additional staff working. All in all I'd say it's a 3+. It was a good meal with a few drawbacks. I'll probably go back because it's just up the street, but it's not the first place I'd bring a group. read more

I have eaten here quite a few times and the food is very high quality. The owners are actually from Italy (not Italian-Americans) and it shows in their food. All of the pastas are made from scratch and you can really taste it in every bite. The only problem is that the food is very oily, to the point that the pasta is practically dripping in oil. If they toned down the oil several notches, this place would easily get a 5-star rating from me. As for service...it's ok, nothing special. Same with the atmosphere. Love this place! If you don't want to travel into the North End but want good Italian Food - this is your go to. They start with really fresh bread, and all entree's come with a salad that is also very good. I have eaten here probably 8 times this past year (yes, during pandemic) and they are very good with the social distancing, etc. I have tried a bunch of the entrees (chicken, eggplant, shrimp, veal) and I actually enjoyed all of them. Some people don't enjoy coffee/dessert, well that's not me so I have to say, their coffee is good and the desserts are too! I've never had a bad meal. I had family visiting from out-of-state and I wanted to take them somewhere that I knew I could be confident in getting a good meal, this was my go to and Abbondanza didn't disappoint. Also, because it's a small place and due to social distancing there is only one waitress working, I don't know here name but she doesn't miss a beat, she's quick, knowledgeable about all the dishes and happy to accommodate with the menu, etc. in any way she can. One of the worst restaurant services in my LIFE. My wife and I had a reservation and were seated and waited to be given the menu and the wine list. A couple were then seated next to us while we waited for said items. They were given their menus, had their order taken and the waitress saunters off. I had to hail the busboy to ask for our menus. Then I had to ask the waitress when she eventually came around to ask for the wine list. The aforementioned couple that came in before us got their salads and I had to hail the waitress yet again that we'd like to ORDER OUR FOOD AND DRINKS. That being said, the real wait began. The couple next to us that came in after us get their apps and are digging into their main course when we get our appetizer. They finish, get the check and leave. About 90 minutes into the meal, the busboy comes over and asks if we have finished our meal and would like anything else. I tell him that we're wondering where the hell our meals ARE to begin with. He runs off to find out and about 10 minutes later we get our dishes which are mediocre at best. After 2+ hours we can finally leave after having to hail the waitress for the check. With service like this, never again will I even consider to eat at this "best restaurant that Everett has to offer." read more

This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants! They have the best gnocchi and tortellini that I have ever had. I would also recommend the pork chops with vinegar peppers and potatoes. They serve nice bread and salads with each meal. The service is good and I don't believe that the food is too overpriced but it is not cheap either. i love their Eggplant Parm. It is the best I have ever tasted. They are less than the 30 minutes they're supposed to deliver & I am not a fan of pasta of late and order Eggplant Parm with no pasta and ask for an extra slice of eggplant. Very very good! We made reservations for 830, but didn't need them and actually got to sit at like 815. I got the idea of this restaurant from my Entertainment book and it such a great choice. I have been going to Abbondonza for almost 20 years. I have never been disappointed with their food. Tonight I had melanzana della nonna and my bf had chicken parm (he LOVES their chicken parm and ravioli....it is all he will order). HUGE portions, both of us brought food home. Well it was my first visit here...and talking about being welcomed with open arms! Not quotes the least, my fallmily and I walked in this restaurant, not even asked "how can we help you," everyone went about their business. No one greeted us or ask anything...just kept conversating amongst themselves...strike one...finally someone came over and ask a question. Keep in mind I had a reservation I made online. Next someone came over and ask and we finally got seated. Then we ordered food. Now why it took so long for our food to show up?!?!?! Damn near an hour before our food came out. That's a bit too long for food. Strike # 2!!! We finished our appetizers and still no food. Unacceptable‼‼‼. Not good customer service at all. The food was exceptional. But no need for the long wait. I ordered take-out the first time I went to this restaurant and did not like the service. The woman that assisted us (older woman with short hair) was very rude and not helpful at all. I decided to give this place a second chance so I decided to eat there. The first thing I noticed is that their sit down menu is apparently different from their take out menu (they increase their prices). Our waitress was the same woman that I encountered the first time. Again, she was very rude. I ordered steak tips with fries. The steak tips were actually very good but they gave me a very small portion of steak tips and a large portion of fries. I came here with a group of girls for a get together. I was overly pleased with everything about this restaurant. Service was so kind, food was out of this world and the atmosphere so beautiful. We started off with some cocktails...the owner made them himself! delicious!! Then we got a few appetizers: Fried Calamari, Eggplant Rollatini, & Clams Casino. AMAZING. For dinner I ordered the stuffed veal chop special with vegetables and mashed potatoes & it also came with a side of pasta. This dinner was to die for, I will absolutely make sure to get it again. The pasta tasted so fresh along with the sauce, and the veal chop so tasty. For dessert my friends and I all got the tiramisu and canolies. These dessert recipes are a family secret for a reason! Abbondanza is like a little hidden gem in Everett. Keep in mind, if you are in a rush or have plans at a certain time, this may not be your best choice. The food takes a longggg time to come out. I actually like this quality though, I feel as though you get a chance to actually enjoy the courses and digest before another full plate is brought out to you. I have never had a complaint about the food or the service, and the desserts are also delicious. I have made my boyfriend go out of his way just so I could get an order of fusilli. Yes, just a basic dish of fusilli! I love how it always tastes fresh. But all the food is good. My boyfriend loved the chicken parm. Also, the bread is great! It's crispy and just delicious, not like that frozen crap other restaurants put on their tables. My mother always grabs a loaf for holidays or big dinners. I've been here for simple dinners, carryout orders and a 12 person family dinner. It has never been busy in here and i've never had a wait. (Probably the busiest it's ever been while I was in was with my family, there were only two other tables.) I love Italian food and decided to give this restaurant a try.. With plenty of Zagat awards hanging on the wall and a good review from Phantom Gourmet, I was really giving this spot high hopes.. The decor is elegant and very formal.. There's a bar that seats no more than 5.. The floor was beautifully tiled and the counter top for the bar was very classy.. The place is a hole in the wall and the floor plan is very tight.. The service was excellent but the food took way to long to come out.. The bread that was brought to our table was the size of a loaf of bread.. A little to much in my opinion for a table of two.. But then again, I guess having more is better than not having enough.. I just hate to see food going to waste.. I ordered the seafood scampi with pasta that was accompanied with a glass of merlot.. The seafood consisted of lobster, shrimp, and scallops.. The red wine wasn't one of my favorites.. It took at least 30-45 mins for the entree to make it to the table.. The pasta, in my opinion had way to much olive oil rather than white wine.. It was only half of lobster which was sliced right down the middle.. It was overcooked and it tasted more like batter than a actual lobster.. The scallops were also overcooked and was very chewy in texture.. The shrimp seemed to be okay but then again how hard is it to mess up shrimp..? After I finished my entree I decided to take a piece of bread and soak up some of the olive oil that was flooded in my plate.. It tasted better that way rather than with butter.. Terrible experience! Beware, dinner for two in a neghborhood restaurant $85.00. No appetizers no desert, no coffee. My wife and I live in the neighborhood. We have ordered out from abbondanza numerous times and had been quite satisfied. Last night, we decided to treat ourselve to a quiet dinner out. We like to support our local merchants so we stayed local even though we had a gift certificate to a great Italian place on Salem Street in the North End. We got to the restauarant at 7:45. Our wine order took 15-20 minutes. We ordered two house specials recommended by our server. 40 minutes later, my wife politely asked the waitress about the status of our order. She said she would check on it and be right back. 10 minures late she told us it was coming out amy second. We were discussing leaving at that point. Just as we were about to leave our entrees came out. My wife's scallop risoto consisted of 3 scallops and a pile of very salty rice. My Bay scallops over "home made pasta" were about as chewy as big league bubble gum, fishy and salty. We are not food snobs. We never send meals back or complain. We eat at a number of local spots on a regular basis, tip well and are known to the owners and staff. We also never (well VERY RARELY) order entrees that cost $27.99 each! Did I mention that we weren't told the price. What's that, $9.00 per scallop? After trying to get through our meals for a few minutes we gave up, our plates noticably full. The waitress felt so bad she brought over a couple of after dinner drinks. Then we got the check. $85.00 for two entress and three glasses of wine. I stayed behind to talk to the owner. I explained that I was a regular patron, that I understand anybody can have a bad night etc. He was polite enough, I guess, but said that every else loved the specials and that Saturday night is busy and we should expect to take our time. I pointed out that I observed other families that got there after us having dinner before we had gotten wine and paying the check before we had started eating. He reluctantly took the risoto off of our bill. I didn't say much. Paid the bill and a 20% tip and left, never to return. It's really a shame. I can't complain about the service however our food was horrible. If you do go to this establishment do not order the meatballs they are by far the worst thing we ate (they tasted old as if they had been left in the freezer for so long that they had gotten freezer burn). I created my yelp account to give someone a really nice yelp review awhile back and have never left a bad one anywhere else!! To be honest if I I could give zero stars I would.
