I went into Aaron's Rock & Roll thinking that this might be like a gothic clothing store or a punk rock clothing store. While there are a lot of t- shirts that cover the topic of "Rock & Roll" such as various bands and musicians (there were t shirts from movies too!) it didn't quite meet what I thought the inventory would be. But I was delightfully surprised in another way. My geeky side! This place is loaded with action figures and I love, love action figures! Some were toy lines that took me down a road of nostalgia that was extremely pleasant while I spotted some other toy lines I could not recall. This is a rad little gift shop in the heart of Dirty Six for locals and tourists alike. If I am looking for something horror film or music related, I know they'll have it. It's like a dope combo of gift shop, souvenir shop, collector shop. I like to bring friends visiting from other states here to check it out. In fact, there's so much here to see you could spend hours. Sex, drugs and rock n roll! This place has it all! This is your go-to headquarters for all your party supply needs. They have all the stuff that you need to work on your rock n roll punk lifestyle. They have a huge selection of t-shirts, stickers, posters, and party accessories. This is the place you need to go if you're gearing up for a night of live music in the Live Music Capitol of the World. This store is right in the middle of things on 6th Street, where you're sure to catch a live band. They are open late, so you can run in and get your party supplies until 1am. They have lots of edgy merchandise that will certainly irk da' Man. The staff is friendly, and they offer a large variety of strange stuff to check out. The merchandise is well organized and clearly priced. They say, "Keep Austin Weird." This place certainly keeping it weird. They've been around forever- I've been coming to this place since I was a kid! The tall guy with the long grayish brown hair who seems to be the owner, didn't even seem like he wanted to be there and I really don't blame him because it was a pretty mediocre selection and it smelled weird. I have gone there 3 times now over the past few years when I've been in town to play shows and this place leaves much to be desired. I LOVE THIS PLACE. It's small and cramped but you can spend hours in it. Guy behind the counter (assuming they are Aaron?) was very friendly and the prices for things are about average you find anywhere. But the selection is perfectly random; they go beyond the same old "classic" rock n roll/horror merch and include some truly off the wall stuff. I bought some buttons, a patch, and playing cards. This place is all things weird, odd, rare and downright fantastic! I stop in here every time I am on 6th Street! You will find dozens of things that make you laugh so hard you will cry and probably would if you bought them all. It can be a bit pricey but, they are novelties you won't find anywhere else and you want them so bad you will buy them! Every time I pass by Aaron's Rock & Roll it takes me back to Friday nights spent walking up and down 6th Street, smoking clove cigarettes with my idiot friend Warren--our mullets flowing rebelliously behind us as we slunk away from yet another club that asked us for ID. (We were juniors in high school.) Aaron's always gave us shelter in that storm of rejection. I was an inveterate headbanger in those days, and I purchased many a pewter skull ring at Aaron's, a gold hoop earring to replace the onyx stud I got at Piercing Pagoda, some band patches for the denim Harley jacket my mom bought for me at Sears, and who knows how many t-shirts, posters, buttons, and profane stickers that I never had the guts to stick on anything. Twenty years later, I sometimes wonder what the me from 1988 would think of the me in 2008 and vice versa. I'd hold him down and cut that mullet, and he'd probably cry tears of molten metal if he looked at my CD collection ("Where's the f*ckin' Iron Maiden, man!?"), but we'd agree that Aaron's is the place for those who like to rock out with their c#cks out. read more

I first stumbled into Aaron's Rock & Roll after I bought a ticket for a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse an hour early and needed something to do in the meantime. The film was Until the Light Takes Us, a documentary about the Norwegian black metal scene, and as I was obsessed with black metal at the time, I asked the employee behind the counter if the store carried any black metal tee-shirts. Turns out she liked black metal, too! When I went back to the store a few weeks later, they had Mayhem shirts, but instead I treated myself to a Children of Bodom shirt. I would later come back for the super-cute hair bows, coin purses, buttons, earrings... so much amazing stuff. They even have postcards and patches with the Obituary logo. I just missed out on a Death patch; I didn't snap it up when I had the chance, and when I came back, it was gone. I have to stop by every time I'm on east 6th street because of all the cute stuff, plus the employees are really nice. The only drawback I can see is that they don't take credit cards unless you're spending $10 or more, but at a place with so much awesome merchandise, that's hardly a problem. read more

Another novelty shop in downtown. I really liked this place! Everything is well organized and well-stocked. It was alot of fun looking around at the random, weird things they had in the shop. The girl working was really nice too. The only problem I had was it was a little bit pricy, but I still ended up buying things anyways! read more

This place is one of those oddities - it's a legend, but only to those in the know. I realize that sounds at odds, but really it's not, as this place is simply an Austin institution, throughout its various years, and various owners. No matter how much they try to pretty it up, it's grungy. And that's glorious. They've got all sorts of things on offer - much of it useless - but frankly its 60 percent smoke shop, 30 percent t-shirt shop, and 10 percent counter-culture museum. That's pretty great. read more

I love this place. When I walk through that part of town, I always stop in. They welcome me, and I always find something new. Whether it's retro, pinup, rock, punk, accessories, stickers, patches, figurines, inappropriate things, candy, etc etc etc. I can't get enough. If you find something you like there, don't leave it and come back - it won't be there next time. They'll have something equally cool, if not cooler, in its place. The only suggestion I'd have is to stay out of there when you're broke. There is no better place in Austin to find that shirt of your favorite band, whether it be an awesome reprint of classic Iron Maiden Killers, or an incredible three quarters sleeve Bowie that you've never seen before. This place has it all. Joy Division, Faith No More, Black Flag, Dark Funeral, Venom, Zappa, Black Sabbath, Waylon Jennings, Elvis. It's all here. They even carry cult classic shirts and even a few shirts of your favorite tv show: Godzilla, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny- just to name a few. Aside from the spectacular array of awesome t-shirts, Aaron's Rock & Roll also carries a massive variety of collectible action figures, such as a Reservoir Dogs Set of the entire cast, Iggy Pop, and Nightmare Before Christmas. This place has a ton of hilarious nick-nacks, buttons, posters (the best poster rack I've ever seen, I might add), stickers patches. This place has it all.
