I researched a bit on the Interweb and discovered that this was the cheapest smog check in town. There was a bit of a wait when I came, but the process was quick when it was my car's turn. There's a couple of seats and a TV in the waiting area. My car passed and I have no complaints. It seems the negative reviews occur when your car doesn't pass. My car failed because the OBDII was not ready. They told me it must be because I changed my battery, but that isn't true. They then charged me an extra $8.75for a certificate even though I didn't receive one, as I didn't pass the smog test. I didn't notice till afterwards. Also, If you use an online coupon, they will NOT retest for free, even though it says they will on the paperwork. read more

At the very least, the proprietor owes an offended customer an apology and explanation for why they made they acted the way that they did. Their appearance was sketchy when I pulled up, but I let them check my car anyway. Turns out smog laws automatically fail the smog check, so they performed the smog check, charged the full price and then told me about the check engine light rule. They did offer a $10 re-test, another rip-off. If they were reputable, they would have told me about the engine light before testing and not charged me until that was fixed and offered a free re-test. Customer service needs a lot more attention. I showed up at 10 and he was a little busy. Understandable as I had no appt. He told me to come back in 45 min there were 3 cars ahead of me. I noted that I had an appointment at 12. He said no problem he would squeeze me in if needed. Good start...,I return 45 min later to find what looked to be the last car in the parking lot before I left and thought good timing... That was until he took his friend in the Ferrari that showed up at the same time...not the big a deal I still had time to get to my appointment. He finishes with the Ferrari and then as I think I am next he decides to take his other friends car. I only note they may be friends as they have all been talking/joking around in the parking lot for the last half. He says your next and I state I have my app. at 12 and I can't wait. "Sorry about that" rather pay the extra 10.00 for the better service 1 block away. read more

As I was walking back to my car, a man who worked there stopped me and whispered that he could "pass" my car for another $200. I declined and he walked away irritated. They have smog tested my cars for the past 10 years.....always very professional each time until today....fraud...their website specifically states they will smog any vehicle for $40 up to 10k gross weight. As I pulled into the parking area, to the left of the shop rollup door, as I saw there was another vehicle partially parked on the dyno, the "tech" immediately before my vehicle was stopped, briskly approached my drivers door as if to block my ability to exit the vehicle. The tech asked if he could help me, I advised I was there for a smog test.......now the parking lot itself was absent of any other vehicles, no one else was standing nearby....he somewhat nervously looked towards the shop area, then looked back at me as I handed him my DMV info, coupon, etc. ...the Tech pointed to the coupon that said up to 5k lbs...and it would be more for this and this and this.......he attempted to and without permission open my locked door...I told him to remove his hand from my vehicle......he stated it was to show me my vehicles gross weight....I replied "I know my vehicles gross weight"......I advised I was a long term customer with past receipts on me to show previous billing rates...he interrupted and forcefully directed that he was following his bosses orders and "don't get made at him", I explained I am not mad at him & perhaps he should call his boss....he stated, "I don't have time to do that type of shit- I am not calling anybody" and in a rushed pace, went back into the shop area.....I backed my vehicle out to the boulevard and drove away as this was not what I would consider a "safe" or "comfortable" environment....especially since the vehicle that was partially parked on the dyno, was unattended, the engine was not running nor were there any test devices connected to the vehicle. This all occurred with 2 minute duration in the parking lot......this really makes myself think that there was something going on in the shop that the "tech" did not want an outsider to see/witness. This is an individual with IMHO potential anti-social skills and potential anger management issues which as a former (retired) professionally trained and certified public safety officer recognized and recommend not engaging in any business with this establishment.. read more

I got the lowest quote from AA smogs Test Only Center and went expecting them to boost their price after I paid and got hooked up to their machine. HELL NO ! ! ! ! They rejected my car because they said the catalytic converter was not factor original. Hell No is an understatement. I got the car smogged 24 Hrs later at a different shop. It passed right away and the new mechanic said the catalytic converter is a factory made part, which is contrary to what the Bums at AA Smog said. The bastards tried to run a scam on me and the Bureau of Automotive Repair will be hearing from me in a formal complaint to shut them down for fraud. These bastards need to be shut down. This place is great. I recently moved to Cali from NYC and had to get two of my cars smogged to register them in LA. One car is 14 years old and the other is 1 year old. Both in good shape with no check engine lights so I didn't expect any issues with Smog test. Both passed with no issues. Chris was nice and curtious and I was in and out in 10 minutes with each car at different times (one car I did on Friday afternoon and another on Saturday morning about a week later). Paid the regular price so can't comment on coupons and such. Would use or recommend them without hesitation. read more

Very efficient and friendly! I've taken my Honda there for its bi-annual smog test at least 3 times now, maybe 4. Last Saturday, a car was just completing its test when I drove up, so I did not have to wait or even turn off my engine. Alex was both friendly and professional. He accepted without question or hesitation the coupon I'd printed from their website, even though the expiration date printed was back in May. (the web guys were supposed to update it, but ... obviously had not ... for several months) But it was worth it to print and bring along - saving $ is always good! It is puzzling why a few guys post negative comments here, when they say right up front they did not expect their vehicle to pass the smog test -- then blame the test company when it doesn't?? And even we ladies know your car will not pass if the 'check engine' light is on, for any reason! Tip: it is best to test the car after it has been driven that day - warmed up - not first thing in the morning. Their driveway is a single lane, and shared with another auto business. So getting in is a bit intimidating. But it is wider in the rear with space to turn around - you don't have to back out onto busy Venice Blvd. The guys at AA Smogs are quick, efficient and friendly. Rip off artists! The guy noticed that my truck hasn't been driven in a while and before he even plugs in the OBD reader, he says that it probably won't pass because the EVAP sensor is bad because it wasn't driven in a while. (my check engine light wasn't even lit- warning #1) Plugs in the sensor, and shows on the reader that there is an error on the EVAP sensor (how convenient... this guy knows what he's talking about or he does this scam all the time). Guy says if I pay him $150, he could pass my car, and not worry about fixing the sensor, which would cost around $500. (warning #2- sounds like a bargain or he's wants make some extra cash) I tell him I'll think about it and may come back later. Call my friend with a OBD reader, and check everything... and guess what? no errors. I go to another smog place, and pay the $60 for my check and pass with flying colors. Not even any extra payments to be sure I passed. STAY AWAY!!! or if you do, watch out for the EVAP sensor scam! read more
