Chicken Focaccia! Warm and toasted! So good!
    Ron R.

Terminal 1, right before Gate 8A, I recall this place was a bar once. That option is now gone. A16 has replaced it, and it's a better option in my opinion. You can either grab a fresh stone-fire pizza from here at a $23 average, or a $21 burrito at the eatery across from it. I'll take a stone-fire wood burning pizza over a $21 burrito any day. Anyways, here's the short about A16: ~ There's a display case at the counter, if you can't decide. ~ Order easy at the kiosk. Even the menu has pics. ~ They specialize in Neapolitan style pizzas and an emphasis on the crust. ~ They also have paninis, focaccia sandwiches, salads, plenty of coffee choices, and tea as well. - A "rustic, yet modern Italian theme" I'd say. So you know they offer wine! ~ Only a few small tables. And a corner seating section with outlets. ~ No service issues. That's about it! I know I mentioned the pizzas, but I wasn't sure how long it would take to make versus my departure time, so I opt'd for the chicken focaccia sandwich. And oh man, I was shocked at how good it was. Nice and toasted too! Well worth it! But next time I'm definitely getting a pizza.

Hungry for a light meal before my flight, I decided to get something healthy. Since I was headed for New York, I figured it'd be a waste to spend so much money on pizza, so I decided on a salad. Unfortunately, I was exceedingly disappointed. I would not come back here. Foods ordered: -Little gem salad: 3.5/10 I have to say that I am disappointed and personally disrespected by the quality of this salad. It comes with shredded Parmesan cheese, lettuce, chicken, croutons and dressing. I've never had chicken like that from any establishment that serves food. I couldn't not stomach it. It had the taste you get from cheap frozen chicken. I'm talking worse than hospital or cafeteria chicken used in salads. The dressing was also terrible with a weird bitter aftertaste. Lettuce was fresh enough though. Drinks ordered: -Carmel Macchiato: 7.5/10 It's alright, around Starbucks-tier for a coffee drink. Pretty dang sweet, but the coffee got my heart rate going. -Ambience: Fast and causal Italian pizza place. They have some tables and -Cleanliness: clean enough, nothing that stands out. Location: Right across from Gate 9 in Terminal 1. -Service: Decently fast and cordial enough, but I don't expect much from airport restaurants. -Transportation: Walking into the terminal 1's gates -Price/value: 6/10 Pricey even for Airport restaurant standards. They do offer weekly specials too make things cheaper. 10 bucks for half a salad and a lemonade, and 15 bucks for a 6 inch pizza and a lemonade when I ordered. For my salad and a coffee drink, my total was $29! For that price, I'd shell out an additional 20 bucks for a day pass at a lounge so at I could drink and eat as much as I'd want. -Wait time: My salad took way longer than other orders, signaling that it doesn't get ordered often. Personal notes: I cannot comment on the pizza, but a wood fired pizza would be nice for a meal of your choice. They also have pastries, sandwiches and coffee drinks with focaccia bread.

For a Oakland airport shop, the food was actually solid. Everything in the airport is overpriced but the portions felt justified. Service was extremely quick and accommodating. Really sweet Filipino staff. Ambiance is chill and it's right by gate 10. Quiet but music playing enough to feel lively. Definitely recommend!

Pizza was soggy as a noodle

My wife and I have been on a plane for 2 hours and saw this place at the Oakland airport the pictures looked great however we were not thrilled by the severely expensive price of their pizzas 28.00 for a pepperoni pizza add garlic and mushroom the exterior of the pizza looked great nice and crispy but the center was completely soggy like a wet noodle all the condiments fell off once we lifted the pizza. My wife asked if we could get it put in the oven just a bit longer however was told that's the best they can do. I then told her I'm sorry we just paid a steep price for the pizza can they please remake it the lady was really argumentative and said that's it's on a timer she could give us our money back but did not want to recook it . I asked we will take a remake and will take our chances with the pizza being cooked a bit longer. She said if she recooks she won't give the money back if it comes out the same. Follow up: The remake was better but still a bit soggy

The overall quality of the food was disappointing, and unfortunately, it did not meet expectations. In particular, the pizza was quite underwhelming, with a taste that fell far below standard.

Some many items to choose from, the person taking my order was very helpful in explaining the different kinds of drinks and pastries. Ordered the Ginger Honey Jobani as a hot drink, Biscoff Milkcake, Honeycomb, and a Beef Fatayer. There were several kinds of milkcakes which would have the texture like a tres leches cake. The Honeycomb had pockets of cream cheese and was drizzles with honey. The Meat Fatayer is like an empanada. The food and drink were very tasty. MLK Cafe was perfectly located and exactly what I needed. I've never had Eritrean food before, so I was pretty excited. I ordered the foul meseleh ($13) from the breakfast menu (available all day though I had to ask for it), which was a bean-based dish, and chai. It kind of reminded me of shakshuka in terms of spices but the beans almost tasted meaty. I liked it so much that I brought it home, and my partner said it tasted like refried beans (though he did have them cold). The crusty warm bread was perfect for dipping, and I ended up not being able to finish it. The chai was pretty milky; there was a tea bag and the spices weren't very strong. Then again, I'm used to Indian chais. I would pass on the chai. There was basically no one else there on a Friday afternoon during off-peak hours. It was dimly lit and kind of chilly because the door was left open, so it wasn't the most comfortable cafe ambiance. The wifi did work well though and I would come back to try more Eritrean and Ethiopian food.

That's what really drew us in. Very tasty breakfast, got the injera breakfast plate filled with lots of spices, tomato flavor and tang from the bread. Super addicting if you love those flavors. Very thankful to be given a side of yogurt to help cool the heat down. Definitely would order this again, but maybe add my own mix-ins like an egg or more protein since it's very carb heavy. Inside wise, you can watch two tv's playing sports, our waitress/cashier was very kind, and it appeared like many locals hanging out. Only thing is their menu prices are out of date. About $13 plus tax per plate. Hope to come back at night to see the bar open and some live music!

I will say, if you have somewhere to be *ORDER ONLINE*. I got there and was told to order from the self serve tablet (I could have done this on my phone ahead of time), but I put in my order and sat down to wait for it. At the 22 min mark, the two groups of two behind me got their food before I did, so I went up to the worker behind the bar and asked if my order was ready and I was told mine would be next. All in all- took 32 mins. So again, if you have somewhere to be- order ahead! Food was good. Could definitely tell it was made fresh to order - not only because it took some time but because my friend cauliflower came out PIPING hot. Lots of oil drippings, so if that isn't your thing, may not be for you, but I will say that it was my fav bite. This was a good restaurant- I would say 4 stars for the food alone. BUT if you're in a pinch, either order online or maybe save this spot for when you have more time. Also- I know that good quality food is pricey, this place is no exception. But you pay for what you get and the quality is better than that of fast food.

While this visit was in between the lunch and dinner rush, unfortunately I think they are understaffed because at the time we sat down there was only 1 person who was busing tables and taking orders. As a result, it took a while for them to be able to stop by our table and provide water, take our order, etc. There was quite a long wait between sitting down to ordering to actually receiving our food. By the time we had actually received our food, almost an hour had passed. While we were waiting, a few other servers eventually joined, but service was still pretty bare for us and we never received refills on water or plates to eat off of when we received our food. I understand that staffing and a backup in the kitchen are out of the staff's control, but it would've definitely helped for us to know in advance how long to expect to wait to align our expectations and arrange our plans for the day. Would advise giving customers a quick heads up/warning because that on its own would've made a big difference. As for the actual food, we ordered the mac trio with elote mac, chicken pot pie mac, and kogi short rib mac (for an extra fee). The elote mac was the best and most flavorful, the short rib mac was okay but not amazing or worth the extra money, and the chicken pot pie mac was very bland/flavorless and didn't have much chicken in it. The food didn't feel like it warranted the wait time and because of that I would not return.
