We had A-1 complete two projects this year. Both jobs were executed flawlessly, and we cannot be happier with the owner and his outstanding crew. The estimate process was commendable, un-rushed, and more affordable than most. First, a small tree/shrub was taken out in summer. They did this so fast, it was akin to a NASCAR pit crew, with no details skipped. We were so impressed with the clean aftermath. Since trucks had to be parked on our one-way street, it was great that the owner had so many members of his team on the job to make things go so quickly. Most recently, we dealt with the much larger task of having a tall tree taken out in back...no easy feat, as the tree was grown into electrical wires. Watching the crew expertly take this tree down in parts was impressive, to say the least. When the owner estimated this, he did not scare us into "getting this tree down ASAP," as he said that it would need to come down within a couple of years, but no immediate sense of urgency for this year. Worth noting is that the business owner was on-site for the whole project (both projects, actually). What impressed us the most is how they all clearly took personal safety into account while also respecting the job site in full. We couldn't help but watch the entire process of the big tree takedown because the crew worked like a well-oiled machine, which was interesting to observe. They worked swiftly without rushing and had such a great flow with each other. It truly made us confident in, and happy with, their ability. The owner did all of the coordinating with ComEd to get them to cut the power (and you can trust that he's insured), which was appreciated. I cannot recommend A-1 enough, and though we have no more trees at this point, I will recommend them to anyone needing similar services. read more

The crew was fast, efficient, and professional and did excellent work in removing a very large 30 ft long limb from old maple tree that had broken off about 40 feet up from the ground in recent high winds and gotten snagged as it fell. We've had to trim our trees almost annually since buying our house. I've come to expect getting on a schedule to take several messages and texts with most businesses. We had the unenviable task of finding a tree company to cut down a big bush in front of our house and a big ol' tree in the back. Thanks to Yelp, we looked up A-1 Tree Service and they did a stellar job on both removals. I dialed A-1 one summer morning and was advised that I would get a callback later that day or the next day. I did receive a call from the owner Sy late that afternoon, and he offered to stop by our house around 6PM not long after his callback. Sure enough he came by, had a look at the bush and the tree, and offered his cost estimates. I had contacted several other tree services, and they either were too costly, were not willing or equipped to handle the tree (it's complicated!) or were not willing to offer an in-person estimate. Now I get that there is a pandemic going on, but I cannot understand how anyone from a tree company can truly understand a situation without physically looking at the tree. Anyway, based on this initial meeting with Sy, we decided to go with A-1. The bush, or mini-tree in front was an easy chore for A-1. It took them mere minutes from start to finish. The tree in the back was a more complicated matter, as A-1 had to also contact ComEd to schedule a timeslot weeks later to cut off and restore the power. With the power off, the A-1 team could tackle the tree, which was quite a puzzle. This tree was situated between two garages with its branches intermingled with the power lines above. Sy and A-1 were like the Flying Wallendas (with power saws) as they expertly dismantled the tree and meticulously cleaned up the job site and surrounding areas. We also added on the late task of removing a small shrub in the backyard, and A-1 took care of that with no fuss and only a slight additional cost. Not counting the extra time for ComEd to cut off and restore the power, the A-1 team spent about two hours on the job, which seemed astoundingly efficient. We really appreciated the expertise and professionalism displayed by the team from A-1 Tree Service. It was a pleasure to deal with folks who know exactly what they are doing. read more

My neighbors wouldn't have nominated me for "best neighbor 2020" award had I knocked out their power now would they? On 3/29 a neighbor's tree fell onto my garage. I needed a company to remove the tree ASAP in order for my insurance to access the damages. I contacted A-1 Tree Service the morning of 3/30 and on 3/31 the crew made quick work of the fallen tree. This was a hazardous job requiring workers to scale a broken structure. But in 45 minutes they were done. A friend recommended A1 Tree Service and, even coming highly recommended, their service exceeded my expectations. Sy came out within a day to give us an estimate for trimming trees on the parkways around our condo building, and for removing a small tree in the backyard. He communicated well throughout the process of setting up an account with our management company, applying for required permits, and scheduling the work day -- which is not always the case, even with contractors who do good work. Sy's crew worked efficiently and with care, which I really appreciated given all the issues that might arise when workers have to go onto the roof, and large tree limbs are being dropped onto landscaping, sidewalks, and residential streets. .I requested a bid from the top 10 tree trimmers around the city to trim down the massive maple tree in my parkway. A1 rang my doorbell one hour later to physically inspect the tree and deliver their bid. A1's bid was the lowest I received, and they told me they'd take care of the permit with the city, and should be back to try the tree in the next two weeks. A1 showed up 6 days later, and within 45 minutes, the tree had been significantly pared down while still leaving plenty of branches and an overall anesthetic look to the tree. Without any push back, he immediately scheduled another time to come by the building.
