Giant flying cockroach greeting you in the bathroom.
Elena K.

Rude arrogant owner ruins the evening. Giant cockroaches in the bathroom. The dinner started fairly well: we were served "mandatory" 14.5 euro appetizers. At some point the owner guy with immediately bad attitude made his way over our table. Apparently the hype went straight into his head. He mumbled his way through the dishes, forgetting them, did not make any recommendations or explain that scallops, for example, came with green risotto.... regardless we placed our order. Or so we thought. After 1 hr 20 min wait (!!!) we finally lost our patience and flagged one of the waiters who alerted the kitchen. It was clear the senile owner forgot to place the order. Not only he failed to properly apologize, he asked AGAIN for our order, then went and placed it. Then came back and blamed computers. Ahahaha you really communicate orders to your kitchen over computers and not via a notepad clutched in your hand? Yeah hackers swooped in and deleted our order. Very believable. Eventually entrees showed up. Just like appetizers they were swimming in oil and grease. We couldn't wait to get the check. Some lady stopped by and she was one bright spot in the whole operation as she at least told someone to give us free dessert. By that time it had been more than 2 hours well past 10 pm and we just wanted to go home. Finally someone came to charge our credit card and as icing on the cake this guy had the audacity to insist on service charge! Not only we got zero credit for the ruined evening but this is first time ever (including michelin star restaurants) we were asked to specifically pay for "service" anywhere in Portugal or Spain. At last glance I also noticed that 3 slices of very basic bread with teeny bit of olive oil, that we never asked for, added two 3.5 euro charges to our bill. Oh and this place does NOT have a Michelin star like one review had mentioned. Just because someone put a sticker saying Michelin on the entrance door does not mean the place has a michelin star. As a final good-bye there was a giant flying cockroach in the bathroom. Please do us all a favor and don't patronize this establishment with this rude owner and awful service.

Scallops and risotto

I am going for five whole stars for this great restaurant that is housed in an old convent of Lisbon. The atmosphere is fantastic, coved ceilings, niches filled with Art, atmospheric lighting... Beautiful! The staff was incredibly attentive and many people including the maître d' waited on our table. Wine was flowing and food was served so efficiently it seemed to just appear on the table. We sat at a long table decked out for our very large party. Immediately appetizer showed up including delicious mackerel pastries, jamon negro, tomato soup shots, shoshito peppers, green beans with almonds... with appetizers like that, how are we supposed to eat dinner? But eat dinner we did. I chose the scallops entrée served with a green spinach risotto. The scallops were succulent and amazing, perfectly cooked. What the real star was, however, was the risotto! Cheesy thick and rich, this is the most memorable risotto I've had in my whole life. Dessert turned into another free-for-all where many different items were brought out - so many in fact I don't think I tried them all! My favorite was a chocolate bite, and the traditional Portuguese egg puff pastry dessert was also served. I don't think you can go wrong with this restaurant-come for the ambience and leave with a big fat belly!

The desert was really good

The ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful and the staff were great but I did not get what I was looking for as far as a culinary experience. The food was so so in my opinion compared to other, much less expensive restaurants I visited in Lisbon. This place would be great to enjoy maybe wine and desert. And don't accept any appetizers you don't want, it gets added to the bill. We also had a very hard time finding the restaurant. It's hidden in an alley but once we found it I feel like I was transported to different, high class world. Definitely worth a visit but not for a full course dinner if you like a packed plate of food.

The food and service were both great. I was a little skeptical at first based on one of the reviews I read but fortunately I had a pleasant experience. I left completely stuffed. Also, for all that I ate, I think the price was reasonable. It's surely worth the experience.

Starters... 14.5€ per person (more not pictured)

Friendly, knowledgeable wait staff. Historic setting. Divine food. Pricey but well worth it. Way off the beaten path.

Transcendent cuisine... loved every inventive dish. My husband and I both agreed this is one of the best restaurants we've ever been to!

Good but pretentious service. Lamb and scallops were good but the Mushroom Risotto was fabulous!

It was packed with people, which was a good sign. We enjoyed all our dishes, especially the tiger prawns, octopus, and seafood rice. The sangria was average. Pastries de Bacalhau - the crust was not brown enough. May be longer time. The stuffing was flavorful but it's more the cod taste than the flavored mash potatoes which I prefer. I actually prefer the other local restaurant I tried the night before better. Caldo Verde - The potatoe part of the soup is great. Perfect viscosity but the flavor is not. It wasn't salty enough but more importantly is the flavor of the veggies and the spicy sausage they supposed to use that makes the soup taste different. Grilled giant pawns - The flavor of the prawns is not as intense as expected and hope to be. The squid ink pasta also lacked of flavor. That's disappointing. With the prawns, they should at least use the prawn shell to make sauce for the pastas. The pasta was tasteless, didn't even use enough garlic and olive oil to flavor it up. Seafood rice - Another disappointment. They used fish, small mussels and little bit of shrimp pieces along with some bigger whole shrimps and mussels. However, the rice was lack of the true seafood flavor that made from shell fish. They also added cilantro which overwhelmed the whatever left of seafood flavor. The lemonade was not a sweet lemonade but sour. Fyi. It's not fair we just went to another restaurant in the neighborhood and everything was so much better but people should know.

Anifa, what can I say about the most amazing human, who took time to sit and chat with every patron and regale us with stories of his life, travels, and listened to ours without judgement and with a very keen love of life. My friend forever after our trip. Everyone should have a friend like Anifa. Yash. The drinks made by Yash were short of heavenly. The world's famous mixologists have nothing on him. I know he will be a great man in any career he so chooses, and the world will be better for this. The food was amazing, every dish exquisite. The BEST Seafood Risotto I have had in my entire life. The chef, whose name escapes me, will get a Michelin star someday. I should've written down his name to follow his career. If anyone reading this has it, please dm me. The 3 nights we spent in Lisbon, all ended up at Carmo. Thanks to Anifa and Yash for an incredible time, amazing human connection, and the best meals and drinks of Lisbon. The choco frito had a light batter on top and you could tell it was really fresh because it was so light and bouncy. The bolinhos de bacalhau were also a highlight; creamy potato filling with codfish mixed in. The asparagus and jamon with scrambled eggs provided a nice balance to our meal. I'm always a sucker for well made scrambled eggs. My favorite dish by far was the arroz de pato. It was packed with smoked duck flavor, and accented with charred sausage and bacon on top. The dishes were on the smaller end, so we ended up getting 5-6 dishes for three people.

The fact that my husband and I got there before anyone else came, allowed us to have the most amazing conversation with the staff that works there!! Faysal greeted us and was very welcoming! As we ate dinner, Bernardo who is a waiter there, told us the history of the building etc and since no one else was there, we talked about our families and that he going to be a veterinarian...and that he has something else coming up that is going to be exciting. All through our dinner we chatted with him (as if we were having dinner at his house) and enjoyed every minute of the conversation!! It was the best part of the evening! We even got to meet Miguel the chef, and were happy to tell him his food was amazing! I can't recommend this restaurant enough!!! They only charge 19.60 euro for all you can eat!!!! I would definitely recommend this to all in Lisbon.

Everything from start to finish was absolutely wonderful. For my meal, I went with Açorda de Camarão, which is a bread porridge with shrimp. I jokingly referred to this dish as "Portuguese shrimp and grits". ;) The blend of flavors and seasonings was absolutely amazing. While eating the dish, I told my partner that I could eat this dish everyday and even twice on Sunday. In fact, the next day when were having having some trouble deciding on a place to have dinner, I was like let's go back to the place that has "Portuguese shrimp and grits". ;) If you are hungry, this is the place for you because the portions were huge for the price. After eating my Açorda de Camarão for lunch, I wasn't hungry again until well into the late evening - even after walking around Lisbon for most of the day. Another delicious part of our lunch - the grilled octopus. In my opinion, the octopus was perfectly grilled and seasoned with a chewy, but not too chewy, texture. I thought the prices were reasonable, especially considering the restaurant is located in a very touristy part of town. The restaurant has a nice outdoor dining area where you can enjoy your delicious food and wine while enjoying the hustle and bustle of Lisbon. I thought service was fine. Although our waiter was not the friendlies of characters, he wasn't flat out rude. When I visit Lisbon again, this restaurant (in particular the Açorda de Camarão) will definately be on my "must do" list.

Like most restaurants in Portugal you start with bread, cheese, and olives. The cheese was very smooth and the olives tasted fresh. I opted for the chicken plate and it wasn't too heavy but was jam packed with flavor. Service was pretty solid here despite the language barrier and I definitely would recommend Tascardoso to those who are nearby the area for an authentic Portuguese meal!
