I came with a group of three for dinner around 6 PM. We had made a reservation beforehand on Yelp but it ended up being unnecessary because the restaurant was fairly empty. When we walked in we did have to awkwardly wait around for a couple of minutes because they only had one server/cashier taking care of the whole restaurant. The poor guy was running around the whole time we were in the restaurant. While we were being taken to our spots I could see how dilapidated the restaurant looked. It was just not well kept at all and the dining spaces did not seem the cleanest. To order you do so by circling items on a laminated menu. We decided to get the AYCE with three broths: the bone broth, tomato broth and spicy broth. The spicy one was chalk full of peppers so was a bit too much for me. I ended up mostly eating from the bone broth which was quite salty but still had a nice flavor. For sauces you make your own. They were missing a lot of ingredients including 沙茶醬. Instead they replaced it with ketchup and American BBQ?? That is the first time I have ever seen a hot pot place do that, who is dipping their boiled meats into ketchup?? We got all of our ingredients for hot pot through the robot and it was pretty lacking in choices. Some of the items it came with were not what I would usually expect at a typical AYCE spot and they were definitely missing some items. The quality of the ingredients and meats were mediocre at best. Many of the ingredients that we received had not even been defrosted yet. All in all, a disappointing hot pot place. We will likely go somewhere else the next time we are craving hot pot. read more

I have not been this Plaza since moving away in 2018. The whole place changed dramatically with the opening of Park to Shop Supermarket (香港超市), an Asian grocery store. There are so many asian restaurants opened inside and around the store. I was not in the mood for hot pot, so my friend and I ordered noodle/rice entree and two appetizers. There were only two tables of Patrons when walked in around 5:30. The state of IL just ordered indoors mask mandate yesterday (8/30/21). The noodle soup was okay but the appetizers were great. Shredded Soy Bean Curd (not shown) and intestines (highly recommended this dish if you are an adventurous eater) tasted deliciously. It all starts with the base broth used to cook. You can pick 1 flavor, 2 flavors, 3 and even 4. I recommend 2 flavors to keep it simple. As for the flavors they have a lot to pick from. I liked the spicy flavor which actually did make me cough a couple times it was so spicy. Tons of options for ingredients so I'm not even going to name them, you'll just have to go and try it. There's plenty of room between the tables, which is important because they bring all the ingredients to the table and you feel a little cramped. If you are familiar with Happy Lamb Hot Pot this is a similar experience. Even though Happy Lamb has a slightly nicer atmosphere and all you can eat option, I prefer this experience. You get plenty to eat here even without an all you can eat option. Also, I absolutely love the fried rice here. What I like about the fried rice experience is that you can go to a condiment bar and select condiments for your fried rice including sprouts, green onion, and various sauces. How it works is you get a selection of meat and then they give you different broth selections to cook your meat in. My advice is to try to conserve your broth if possible. Like Happy Lamb they will give you a refill of broth at no charge; however, the broth will be a base broth and it will not contain all the original spices that were in the original selection. If you do have to get more broth though it will still taste good. Enjoy this unique dining experience! read more

This place is in Aurora and right next to Park to Shop (a supermarket and food court)! We were the first one at the restaurant and they served us right away! We got the VIP room which had 8 individual induction cooktop! Having your own personal hot pot was awesome especially during the pandemic! We went there for lunch, you have a choice of AYCE or a la carte! We did the AYCE $19.99 per person which was a real good value, if you want to try everything! Going here with a big group is nice, you can try a lot of stuff! They give you a menu with an erasable pen, you just circle the items that you want and they will bring the stuff out for you! I had the mushroom soup and that was really good, had a lot of mushroom flavor! The beef belly was kinda fatty and very thin, so you didn't have to cook too long! The New Zealand beef was more lean and was tasty! The veggies were all delicious, we like the spinach and crown daisy chrysanthemum the best! The tofu skin roll was good too, as soon as you put it in the water, it's done and ready to eat! For the sauces, they have a huge assortment of different spices right by the front door, I thought this was odd! It would have been better if they put this in the back instead! Tried A Tasty Hot Pot twice already and the hot pot really satisfies our craving so we'll definitely be back for more! During the first time, my friends and I ordered from the a la carte menu; the ingredients are plentiful and I was pleasantly surprised by their signature dishes which you usually don't see at other hot pot places. This includes duck tongue, quail egg, blood curd, beef tripe (YES!) and more! It honestly felt like authentic Chinese cuisine. You can opt for a two-flavor to even triple-flavor hot pot and select from a variety of different broths but the tomato broth is definitely the way to go. It is flavorful without being too overpowering and the sweetness is a nice balance to the umami flavor of meat. The hot pot was brought out in a beautiful intricate pot with handles sculpted in the shape of dragons. Talk about presentation! The big difference I noticed ordering from the all-you-can-eat menu, there's only a few signature items available. The restaurant also limits the serving sizes so it didn't seem to matter what number I wrote on the order sheet for how many I wanted of (for example, quail eggs or something), it was the same amount for every order. But overall, the staff was on top of everything, was courteous. The a la care menu is definitely on the pricey side because off the signature dishes but if you don't much care for those ingredients, try the all you can eat for lunch or dinner sometime! Reasons for low rating the service was very poor and seating was terrible. We had to order our food twice because the staff mixed up our ordering card with another table. We found out about the mix up 25 minutes after we ordered. Once the service person came to the table to take our order card they never checked back again unless we flagged them down or called them over. We were given tiny bowls of rice for our meal that contained about 1 cup of rice. Also, I ordered a Diet Pepsi that was delivered and was so diluted that it looked like tea, and it was flat!!! The table and chairs there are extremely uncomfortable. The table didn't have room under it for your legs so you had to sit with your let pointing to the side. The chairs had a back on them that was so far away and slanted back that when you leaned back on it you were literally 3 feet from the table. The cost of our meal was $180 with tip (18%) for a party of 4 (3 women, 1 man). The tip was very generous based on the service but I didn't want to blame the waitress entirely because she was serving too many tables (~ 12 tables). We were not told that the cost was al ecarte until the check arrived, we thought it was all you can eat. The highlights were the food though. The vegetables and meats were great!! Though the meatballs and shrimp balls were terrible! The robot that delivered the food was very cool!!! We were supposed to go to Happy Lamb but they were closed for remodeling and my daughter wanted Hot Pot for her birthday so we settled on this place instead. Unfortunately, I've had to update this review a year or so later for one main reason. Headline: Management/manager/owner should read this as I believe this should be directed towards you. I scheduled a reservation a couple of weeks in advance for six people, requested the VIP room so we could all get individual pots (harder if six people share just one pot) and this was done before in the past with zero issues - all was set. Come the day of us arriving, 5:25, 5 minutes before our reservation, we walked into a near empty establishment, didn't recognize most workers as we frequented here a lot within the past year. We entered as a party of four, with the last two people running late behind us due to encountering construction issues/traffic from the city. We were greeted quickly and asked about our party, I indicated it's reserved for six but we only had four right now due to other two for the reason mentioned above. The worker acknowledged and put us in the VIP room, we placed our orders just to get started and have some decent conversation. A few minutes into getting our food (so about 10-15 minutes later), I checked in on my friends to see if they were close, they said they were still stuck in traffic, and I asked them how far away they may be, but they didn't reply as my assumption was, they were still in rush-hour traffic and wanted to focus, who knows. A few minutes later I updated the workers there on their status, and they again acknowledged. Well, we kept eating, chatting away and about 30 minutes in (about 6pm) my friends told me that they would be super late, closer to 630, and they said they apologize but do not think they'd make it and I understood, no big deal. The workers then came back in to bring us in another tray of food, and I updated them on the situation again that it would then just be the four of us. They again acknowledged. I then heard that worker (I don't think they knew I understood Mandarin) say something to owner or manager about how we now only have four people. Come time for the bill, it's not even about the price itself, but how it was presented to me, or the manner of. I'm sure the worker who spoke to me was instructed by either the manager or owner as he seemed downright scared out of his mind when talking to me, but in his words it was, "next time, please let us know if you're only going to have 4 people and not 6, as then we can seat you out there in the general dining area". I then questioned what he meant by that, as we originally did plan six, did not intend to only have four, and regardless the restaurant was completely empty with the exception of our party, another party of two, and the workers. He just repeated the above. My guess is, us sitting in the VIP room and not outside in the open areas outside maybe were perceived as having a less full environment, however from the outside, there are walls next to the window, you cannot even tell how many people were inside dining, but I digress. In the end, the food was good, service actually during our meal was fantastic, but the way how this was presented to myself and my friends at the end, was a very bad taste in our mouths, pun intended. Again, we've always dined in here with a minimum party of 6, VIP room, paying well over $250-$300 a time, no issues and this was the single only time where we weren't able to meet our full party with reservation; all while we still updated you up until we knew for a fact our last two in the party couldn't make it, with circumstances not by our fault or prediction. Being treated that way at the end of our otherwise very pleasant meal was utterly disgusting. We came here as it is fairly good for being in the suburbs and didn't want to venture out to Chinatown/city for half decent hot pot, but this experience alone may have sealed their own fate with us moving forward, friends and family alike will follow suit if we cease coming here. This establishment now gets two stars, and the only reason it is getting two and not one, is the fact that the workers there that night were very tentative and the food was still good. EDIT: I forgot to mention they automatically added the 18% gratuity to the bill, which they mention in many other reviews and in the restaurant that it applies whenever you have a party of six more, which again... we didn't, we had four. Not a huge deal breaker as the service was good and we sometimes will tip between 20-25% if it's real good. In this case, for the inconvenient atmosphere at the end of our meal, the auto-decrease down to their 'standard' 18% would suffice, but it's still odd that they did this when we didn't have a party of six. read more
