Someone said this was fine dining? I can assure you guys this is not fine dining, prices are not even close. This is casual Chinese but the interior is nicer than most Chinese restaurants. We ordered crab rangoon, crispy shrimp with lemon sauce, twice cooked pork, baby bok choy with garlic, smoked tea duck, and boiled sole fish fillet in spicy Szechuan sauce. Service was good. Food came out fast. It wasn't very busy on a Sunday evening. Prices were fair for the portions. Overall about a 3.5 out of 5. -crab rangoon 5 - big pieces with a lot of filling inside. -crispy shrimp with lemon sauce 5 - this reminds me of walnut shrimp but with lemon flavor. Shrimp was crunchy. -twice cooked pork 3 - This was decent but it didn't have a lot of pork in it. A lot of vegetables but I wanted more pork. -baby bok choy with garlic 5 - vegetables were soft not soggy., -smoked tea duck 5 - pieces had a good amount of meat. I could really taste the smoky flavor. -boiled sole fish fillet 4 - not too spicy. This was a very good dish but I wished they added more fish in it. read more

Ordered uber eats from here. Food was ready in about 20 minutes. Staff was quick and friendly. Food was also pretty affordable and enough for dinner and leftovers the next day. Entrees come with rice. Singapore noodles combination - not a ton of meat but the noodles were generous. Solid curry flavor Mongolian beef - beef was tender but this was mostly onion Egg rolls - crispy and filled with chicken. My daughter liked these read more

It wasn't the same as the original one. We found out that the restaurant has franchised the name to other people. So the restaurant is pretty big. Nicely done and all. It was pretty empty, though it was kind of late on a Monday night by the time we arrived. Like 730pm. The service was good. Nice people for sure. Lastly, the food was ok. Not very flavorful. We also way way over-ordered. I had leftovers for 3 days. So the portions are very generous. Eggplant with garlic sauce, kung Pao tofu, vegetable fried rice. All were decent. Overall decent visit. read more

Decided to give this place a try because I always pass by and see it's empty, we walked in and we got seated immediately. I was feeling extremely hungry, so I basically tried all of the hot appetizers and I could not have been more pleased! The eggrolls, the crab Rangoon's, the dumplings, everything was so delicious! Next time I would probably order less at once so I can eat everything, but it was delicious. I asked the waiter for recommendations on a thick noodle and he delivered! I can't remember the name but they were so tasty! It was pretty empty while I was there, I visited a Thursday evening around 6 PM, but I will definitely be seeing this place again! read more

I've been here a handful of times, usually with my in-laws since Lao Sze Chuan is a family favorite! The freshness and quality of the food is always excellent and has been consistent, whether it's here (Aurora) or at other locations I've tried (Evanston, and downtown on Michigan Ave). I'm sure folks have their favorite locations. When with my in-laws, I leave the ordering up to them, and the owner of the restaurant usually stops by to chat and make any recommendations for dishes depending on what we're in the mood for. Lucky for me, I just get to sit back and relax. Plus, they have a bar here too. Most recently, we came here for dinner (party of 4) and this is what we had, family-style: Sweet and Sour Fish Filet Ong Choy with Garlic Kung Pao Chicken Soup with Beef, Egg Whites, and Minced Veggies (not sure of the name) Tendon Dish with Veggies (also not sure of the name) Japanese Tofu with Salted Egg Yolk Cold Noodles Mushroom Casserole Dish (served on top of a little cooker, unsure of name) I feel a little useless without being able to provide the names of the dishes, and I don't have pics of all of them BUT let it be known on Yelp that you will get delicious, freshly wok-fried food that comes hot out of the kitchen here. I love spicy food, and their Szechuan chili and Kung Pao dishes will leave your tongue tingling in the best way. Lao Sze Chuan is a staple for Szechuan/Chinese food in the Chicagoland area and you can't go wrong with anything on their menu! read more

This is my favorite lunch option during the work week. The food is good and comes out fast if you're in a time crunch. My usual dish is the dry chili chicken lunch special (with egg drop soup, crab Rangoon and white rice). Dry chili chicken is one of the best dishes on the menu, but they also offer other delicious options such as fillet of fish in black bean sauce, lamb kumin and twice cooked pork. They offer lunch specials, happy hour (20% off), and pretty good atmosphere for dinner. Restaurant is clean, staff is knowledgeable with ingredients for food allergies and service is always great. Highly recommend, Thank you read more

Grade: 3.5 stars I came with a group of 5 people on a Saturday night around 5:30 or 6:00 PM. The restaurant was fairly empty so we got our choice of whatever kind of seats we wanted. We were taken to our seats personally by the manager and another server. The manger herself was very responsive and helpful throughout the meal. Service itself was very fast and we got our food quickly as well. For food, we had two people in our group who could not eat spicy foods so we ordered all of the non spicy options. Except for the dan dan noodles which could only be changed down to mild spicy. We shared: -SZECHUAN STRING BEANS: Great flavor and well cooked beans. Definitely a good dish to grab. -SEAFOOD COMBINATION WITH TOFU IN CASSEROLE: Nice combination of various seafoods, veggies and tofu. Sauce was great and went well with rice. -SCALLION PANCAKE: I love scallion pancakes so was excited to try but these were a bit disappointing. There was a lot of oil but it was not crispy enough, additional the flavor was not all there. -DAN DAN NOODLES: Even as a "mild spicy" option the peppercorn did have a bit of a kick. The sauce was nice but it was a bit more oily. I just wish there was a bit more pea sprouts it came with. -FRIED FISH FILLETS: Nice flavor and well fried fish -SLICED PORK, DRY BEAN CURD WITH CHIVES: Good flavor but also a bit on the oilier side. However, everything was cooked well. All in all, a nice option for Szhechuan food in the area, just wish it wasn't so oily for certain dishes. read more

Very bland food. Very oily cold food. Do not recommend. First and last time we are coming here. Left all of our food, paid bill in full. I don't under the hype of this place. read more

Ordered Door Dash for lunch. Food was ready fast and arrived hot but that was about the best of it. Ordered Sesame chicken lunch special with fried rice and a crab rangoon as the sides. The fried rice was just white rice with soy sauce, no veggies, not fried, and had 2 small bits of egg. The sesame chicken was OK but the sauce got too sweet quickly and was a very thick consistency, like a thick sweet and sour sauce without the sour. The crab rangoon was almost good with a lot of filling and a nice crispy shell but again it was very sweet. I won't waste my money on this place again, how do you mess up fried rice? read more

This place has good food quality just based on the 2 dishes I had here with a friend. Quality- the lemon shrimp was crispy and the sauce was flavorful with sweetness and the shrimp was a bit overcooked though. It was very dry but since the sauce was there it offset the dryness. The boiled fish was great too. It was cooked well and a good combination of spicy and savory. Quantity- portion sizes are a bit smaller here Atmosphere- it was empty at 6pm on a Wednesday when I cane here. Great to have a place all for ourselves. Service- fast and attentive servers read more

This is the WORST establishment in Naperville. The manager is horrible, greedy, and disgusting. For context, my family and I used to come to this restaurant's lunch special every other week. One night, the manager berated and insulted my father for not tipping her enough. He ended up paying her more in cash as if 20% was not enough. This was years ago and we ended up not coming back again. My grandma loved the food here, though, and I decided after years of not showing up, that perhaps management had changed. I was extremely wrong. During lunch, we were not serviced at all. No one paid attention to if we needed anything. They essentially took the order, delivered it via their robot, and were out of sight for the remainder of the meal. I brushed it off as this wasn't a problem for us, and it was only two of us. When we were done with the meal, again the staff was nowhere in sight. I packed up the leftovers myself, and after waiting around for 10 minutes, had to go up to the staff for them to charge my card. Unfortunately for me, the same manager takes my bill. She looks at me and directly asks me why I did not tip her higher. Funny that she's paying attention now. She takes a few steps back and stands in front of the table implying that I need to update my tip amount. Lol. I did not. I did not respond to her. I was not going to explain myself, nor let someone bully and force me to tip higher than the initial amount. She then proceeds to scream at me and tell me, verbatim, "that I am from the US" and that I need to tip better, and to take carry out next time. I said "okay," and proceeded to head out of the restaurant. She then took the card holder and slammed it in front of the register, to create more drama. Lol. I know who I am. I am a generous tipper (20% minimum) and have worked in the food industry myself. But I will not let someone bully me into giving more than what is already written. Business must be hard as the restaurant was barren and had no customers. Business must be harder when you are miserable and treat your customers like garbage, ensuring they never return again. This was the worst dining experience of my life. read more

This location had another Szechuan cousins when I lived here four years ago. The new owner has total 15 locations throughout Chicagoland. I ordered Mapo Tofu Fish for dinner. They served the dish within 5 min after I placed the order. Almost like JJ fast. The numbing spicy taste was great with soft tofu and tender fish filets in combination. Nothing I can complain about. It is just great! read more

I enjoyed the food at Lao Sze Chuan! This time I tried 海鲜麻辣拌sea food hot and spicy pot, and 辣仔鸡 featured spicy chicken. It's plenty for two people, let alone for myself I took quite a bit home. The taste is awesome and will try two different dishes each time. Many great choices! I ordered 旦旦面 last time and with the wood-ear mushroom, lamb with cumin, all were delicious. This is the BEST Chinese in the Western Suburbs. The Aurora location, and the OG location in China town, are the only 'Lao Sze Chaun' branded locations to visit; everything else is formerly owned/a franchise of owner Tony's previously vast empire-don't waste your time on the Downers Grove location; it's just not the same! The Sze Chaun dumplings and Chef's Dry Chili Chicken are absolutely amazing. I've been addicted to both for over 15 years and could eat it every week. All dishes are fresh, authentic and delicious and highly recommended read more

Waaaaaaaay better than every other half baked Chinese restaurant that we have delivery access to in West Aurora. We had Kung Pao Tofu, extra spicy and it was fresh, hot and very good. Not at all like some of the industrial chains that we've been forced to deal with. I recommend! read more

I have been visiting Lao Sze Chuans for many years, from Connecticut to California. While all of them are similar, there's enough variation that it's always a surprise to try a new one. This spacious suburban location offers a bunch of vegan-friendly dishes. The dan dan noodles can be made without meat ($9). It tasted all right, albeit oily. The dry bean curd with spicy sauce ($9) was not what I was expecting. Normally it's dried tofu in a light sauce; here it was chewy and oily tofu and oily. The scallion pancake ($9) tasted fine. You can't go wrong. The Chinese broccoli ($15) was nicely done and fresh. We also enjoyed the peapod leaves ($15) which featured an ample amount of Szechuan peppercorn for that tongue-numbing awesomeness. The chef's special dry chili bean curd ($16) isn't on the menu, but they'll make it on request. It was fine but not as good as at other Lao Sze Chuans I've been to. Stop by Lao Sze Chuan for a respectable and spicy Szechuan meal. read more

The outdoor seating is located at the side of the building and was pleasant. It was not crowded at all since most people are still opting for pickup. I have been coming on and off at this place for a while, and as they have gone through rebranding and different ownership, The ambience is good, with a large place that is well lit, and has a separate section for groups. I often find their tables a bit sticky, maybe because of whatever they use to clean it. The service is usually prompt while taking the order, but I do find myself looking around hoping for someone to show up, in case you need something. The food is a hit or miss. Sometimes it is incredible and other times it's a meh. With so many new Chinese places coming up in their neighborhood, they really need to up their game. read more

We always order Chinese food on Christmas Day. Last year I made the mistake of waiting too late to order from this, our favorite, Chinese place. This year I placed my order for pick-up at 7am. That's how good it is! My husband devoured the sesame chicken and wanted more -although it was a hearty portion. I must starve him or something. Lol. I had the Mongolian beef which was my only complaint. It was tasty but way too many onions compared to beef and mushrooms. I also asked for them to add spice to it but they didn't. I know with holiday it is hard to do custom orders. Crab Rangoon and scallion pancakes were exceptional. We also had chicken fried rice, 3 chili chicken, and beef with fried noodles. A big order which was ready on time and fresh from the kitchen. read more

Came to visit Lao Sze Chuan again since my previous visit was quite good. The Lao Sze Chuan in downtown Chicago features handmade xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), so we decided to ask the staff here whether they also did the same. They confidently answered yes, and so we made the (unwise) decision to order their 8-piece xiaolongbao off the menu. What a disappointment...they are clearly NOT handmade - how else would the dough wrapper folds (which are curiously in the meat filling as well) be so perfectly symmetrical?? They taste and look just like the Wei Chuan frozen ones that you can get at any supermarket and when we asked the staff about it, they still denied and pretended they had no idea what we were talking about. The photos clearly show otherwise. So disappointing that they still tried to fool us (we've been to too many places to know these types of tricks...). read more

I ordered through Uber Eats. They forgot some of the food and then asked me whether I could come in to pick up the remainder of the food. Here's a good example for restaurant owners. Have a plan for something like this. It obviously happens all the time. DO NOT ask me to drive 30 minutes round trip to pick up the food. DO think about how you would respond if you were the customer in order to prevent yourself from saying something very dumb. DO have a series of options for the customer. DO NOT leave it up to me to figure something out. DO NOT say "Ok Thanks!" when I tell you you've lost a customer. If I was the owner i would sell the place. The food is 3 stars. Service 1. read more

Finally found a GREAT Chinese Restaurant. The food was delicious and exceptional service! We had great Egg drop soup, Pork (steamed) potstickers, and Mongolian Beef. Enjoyed EVERY BITE! They made sure we were not waiting or wanting for anything as several servers would stop by our table to see if we needed anything. On Thanksgiving Eve, the restaurant was busy, so exceptional service was an understatement as the ladies were always on the move. They have a very cute robot that brings the food to the tables.... an awesome thing to watch.. We will definitely be returning for more delicious meals. Darlene & Patrick read more

Came here last night with a group of 4 for dinner, and for the first time in the 5 or 6 times I've been here this place really didn't seem to have its act together. - Didn't seem to be enough waiters for the number of people dining, and some general confusion about who was our server. A younger guy took our appetizer order, then he vanished. Finally we asked another older guy if we could place our entree order; he seemed surprised that we hadn't already. - Later the waiter brought out the food; he brought two dishes, and we kept waiting for the other two. Finally I flagged him down and it was obvious that he forgot the other two! He ran off to the kitchen. - I always order spicy dishes as mildly spicy, which they say you can do on the menu, but both my dish and another friend's came out much spicier than usual when I have requested mild here. Food was good (aside from the spiciness factor) which is why I didn't detract any more stars, but overall the scatterbrained service needed to get it together! read more

This is their lunch portion meal size ordered on Uber eats. Small side of fried rice, but it has a lot of flavor. We also ordered the general tsos chicken extra spicy. The sauce is sweet so the spice doesn't really come out, but it still has a tiny kick to it. So so so good. We also ordered Beef Lo Mein on the side and the flavor is amazing. I've Yelped the Lao Sze Chuan in Downer's Grove, and it was fab. This place has a bunch more "curb appeal", and is brighter and more inviting inside. This is not a neighborhood "Chop suey Joint". This is hard-core "Chinese" Chinese Food. Everything here was totally on point. TRUST them when they say "spicy", believe me. My notes say "Noodles, Dry chili Chicken, Szechuan Lamb and Woodear Mushroom Cheng Du Style--all fab! And it was. The only pissoff here is option anxiety. Everything on the menu looks good. Every plate cruising past the table to another diner looked great. I think it would be about 2 months eating there every day to try everything on the menu, and THAT ain't going to happen anytime soon. Maybe next time I will tell the waitron to bring whatever they think is best on the menu, and make sure it's "real Chinese"... A little touch of culinary roulette never hurt anyone! read more

this is such a good restaurant. we come here almost every week cause it's our "family favorite" restaurant. the waiters are really nice. like, they help us out sometimes with our orders and say "this is what indians prefer...." and they're right! and we love it! i always take lo mein noodles (but a bit spicy) and it's always sooo good. sometimes, they forget to add the extra spice but i don't really mind. the restaurant is clean and all, too. it's kind of empty cause most people take-out though. so this restaurant is banana approved read more

Chinese food is common an available in almost every town these days, so what makes them any different? Honestly not much, the food is hot and fresh served quickly and very consistent. This has become one of my go to spots for lunch during the week because of the value. Egg roll or crab rangoon, egg drop or hot n sour soup, rice, vegetable, and a generous portion of protein is just $9.99 All the dishes I've tried are good, nothing is super spicy, the only thing that I've had that could use some more spice is the curry chicken.
