I have been coming here regularly for about a year now, and still stand by everything I said previously. Very fair prices that are in line with industry standards. Good selection of the big name newer stuff, and lots of up and coming indies. Great atmosphere and just a pleasant place to look around and decide what you want to read next. I decided to bump this up to 5 stars though because the employees are so great. Mal, Miguel, Cy, and Logan are always super pleasant and friendly. First time at A Shop Called Quest and honestly, first time in any comic book store, so we walked in like newborn deer on wobbly legs. We got a quick greeting at the door and then were left to fend for ourselves in the Marvel wilderness. The store is super organized and visually on point. My son made a beeline for the Spider‑Man section like it was calling his name. My daughter, who has zero interest in comics, appreciated that they also sell books, tees, Funko Pops, and other merch so she didn't have to pretend to care about Peter Parker's problems. Checkout was smooth, and the cashier immediately pitched their membership program. Totally fine, it's a one‑time fee, not a monthly situation but we're just not ready to invest in that level of comic commitment yet. Prices were reasonable: about seven bucks for most issues and one $35 comic my son proudly bought with his own money. I let him live his best life. The plot twist came a week later when he sat down to read everything... and realized he accidentally bought three copies of the same comic because the covers were different. Variant covers: 1. Newbies: 0. A tiny heads‑up from the cashier would've saved us from the accidental collector's edition starter pack. All that said, the store is clean, cool, and has the exact comic‑shop vibe you expect. We'll definitely be back, just with a little more research and maybe a checklist so we don't accidentally buy the trilogy of the same issue again. Haven't seen so much comics and Funko POPS collections!! Had grandson shop here for his 15th bday present ! Parking is the challenging part ! We got dropped off instead and hubby had to find parking far away from the shop!! There was no welcome greeting from the staff who was stsnding behind the register counter! After grandson's indecisive and browsing , he finally picked 3 comic magazines and a Funko pop! So many collections for all ages from the young readers to the adult collector fanatics!!! Besides books and comics there are Variety of merchandise like pins, caps, t-shirts, beanies, stuffies, posters, and many,many ,many ,more to see and buy!!! I don't know much about comics, but the kids enjoyed visiting this store for the first time a few weeks ago. The location is larger than I expected once I went in. My daughter picked up something from their extensive Funko Pop! selection and might start up a collection. My son got a graphic novel from Percy Jackson which he quite enjoyed. Every time I walk in, one of the workers treats me like I'm a problem instead of a customer. It's honestly embarrassing and upsetting to be treated that way in a place I used to enjoy. On top of that, the comic selection is disappointingly bare. There's rarely anything new or exciting to bring. It feels like the store just doesn't about the comics, and definitely not about the customers. I love the shop and always buy stuff from this shop. However the gentleman working in Thursday evening was so engrossed in his death metal that I waited at the counter over 5 minutes and he didn't even look up to see if he had customers. Poor experience. Went in for DnD stuff after looking at google and seeing they carry that with a "knowledgeable" staff to help. They had two small shelves of DnD books that I found after doing circles around the store while 2 employees stood there not helping. I finally get my stuff to the counter and ask the one guy with longer hair if they had minis for DnD, in which they proceeded to stare at me like I was insane. No one even really answered me, they just mumbled no. They had 3 packs of mystery die from 1985 gaming and some older die sets that were character specific and way pricey. I spent almost $300 in here on books and regret it, would have rather given that money to anyone else that even remotely cared. read more

I'm not much into comics, but our friends wanted to come to the warehouse sale so we tagged along. The employees running the open warehouse were super friendly and passionate about what they do. There was a line at the door before it opened. We waited a few minutes and then it opened. We all filed in and the place was jammed packed as everyone rushed to get there hands on what they wanted. There were shirts, action figures, comics galore and various other items. Plenty to go around. It was fun looking through it all and being a part of a community in not usually in. I appreciated all the art work. It was very clean, but the line was beyond long and very crowded so it was hard to see everything especially where the line was piled up, I wasn't able to see any of the goodies behind it. Okay not to be a hater, but I saw the wall of Funko Pops outside so I didn't have too many expectations coming in here. However, the anime and manga section are pretty decent here with lots of series that I didn't think that they would have or even feature on their cashier counter area (like "Saiteihen no Otoko" aka "Scumbag Loser"). They also had a Pochita plushie from Chainsaw Man. Despite how mainstream that series is getting in the cosplay and con community, I have actually not seen a Pochita being sold in person before I came to Quest. A good amount of blind boxes, cute nerdy pop culture books (think themed cookbooks), posters, plushies, and figures (some scale models and some prize figures, better to shop around and have an idea of costs first). Also pins, which also surprisingly had some Genshin Impact ones. Aside from anime (what I'm mostly interested in), they have a lot of other nerdy western merch (Disney, superheroes, etc.). Their selection is smaller than huge comic book shops in bigger cities like Los Angeles, but it also makes it easier to browse. Also, they keep inventory of their stock and you can request they transfer an issue from their other location. Prices are competitive and comparable to most comic book shops. Service is quick. Not only do they see comics but there other merchandise is a great find. I'm very impressed with how this store is set up and how they are running things. One my favorite shops, been coming since I was a teenager but unfortunately I came with my boyfriend today and he was wearing a nirvana shirt that had a design of a woman with her breast exposed and one of the two cashiers claimed it was inappropriate for him to wear it? She told him to button his cardigan and he couldn't wear his shirt there ever again. However the other cashier had no problem helping us find the things we wanted and was very nice. I don't understand how she could deem his shirt inappropriate when there's plenty of adult things in this shop that can be considered "inappropriate". I'm very disappointed and honestly feel upset for my boyfriend because he admires nirvana deeply and Kurt's anniversary of his passing was just a few days ago and it made him upset. read more

Location is super easy to get to. There is parking on the street or just a block away is a free parking garage. This is the second time I've been here. My last visit was YEARS ago. Everything is so organized and displayed just right!! I quickly found exactly what I was looking for!! LOKI!!! Yes he's my favorite character besides Jack Skellington. Comic book stores were on the ropes for a while after the early 90s. Wall street investors thought comics were like stocks and the outcome was a lot of fake collectables with every gimmick imaginable (chromium covers et al.), and all of a sudden the bottom dropped out of the market. Truly collectable comics depreciated and the correction was almost 20-years in the making. Today, fortunately, a resurgence of interest is undoubtedly driven by DC and Marvel superhero films. A Shop Called Quest is one of three such locations (Claremont and the Arts District in LA) and while not as big as the store in Claremont, it still has a great selection. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful with everything, and the most useful tidbits are that new comics arrive every Wednesday, and there's an online link to see what's coming. Yay! Prices certainly have climbed but the art work and paper quality are steps above the acidic four-colour process left behind in the 90s. As such, I can only afford to follow a few titles since they range from $3.99 to $5.99. One plus is that nearly all shops now provide an archival back board and polypropylene sleeve to protect your investment. Remember, collect for fun and enjoyment, not greed. I also enjoy the nicknacks and toys and occasionally add to my Funco bobble head collection. Absolutely poor customer service, first off, I have a Pull List at the shop. The employees are supposed to hold comic book titles when new issues come out and keep them for when you arrive at store. It cost $25 for the service. The employees have not been saving the issues for my Pull List. One week, I brought this discrepancy to one of the employees, I don't know her name, I said "Why do I have a Pull List if you are not saving my titles?" They do not save comic books for my Pull List. Not a single employee does it. Will not be returning. read more

The customer service was def not "obnoxiously awesome." Drove from Riverside to Redlands, got there a couple mins past 10am. I had checked Google to make sure their business hrs. The front door was locked but we had passed the back door n seen it was open so we went to that door. Greeted with a big dog and the employee came & said they weren't open. I asked "oh, what time do u open then?" He said, "eh, about 15 or 20 mins." I said, "oh ok, I thought it said 10." He said, flatly, "no." There was no apology or explanation. Took my kiddos here because they love Anime and they had a good collection of anime books and figures. They also have a lot of different comic books and a lot more. It was a cool little shop and we will be going back. The staff was helpful and kind and it's in downtown Redlands so we walked a bit after we visited the shop. My brother got a (long distance) gift card for my family for a Shop Called Quest. The employees were incredibly kind, helped us look around the store to find an item we were interested in buying, talked about the Magic decks behind the counter with my boyfriend, and even gifted us a couple free decks that weren't selling well when we finally made our purchases. My complaint: Neither employee was masked. I didn't take notice of whether they were enforcing any masking for other guests as they were near closing time and was focused on making our choices so we could use the gift promptly. I've been reading comics for over 10 years, and in my experience, a comic store can be a very hostile place. That is not the case with this place. I use to go, grab my comics, and walk away. Ever since they hired this girl, Candace, it went from that to having great conversations about comics, manga, etc. And amazing recommendations, specially on independent comics.
