Went into the shop today to get a new game or two. When asking for recommendations we learned that they have a room you can play games in and most of the games available to purchase in the shop are there to be tried. We got to try 4 brand new games to us. What a great way to see if the family will like a game before making the investment. They also have snacks and drinks for sale and you can stay as long as you would like. It turned out to be an amazing afternoon. I highly recommend the shop if you are looking for a new game. Hubby and I came here for a game date night, and it was so much fun. We played a few different games, and I really love their $5 all-day game pass. You can go upstairs and play as many games as you want for just five bucks, which is such a great deal. It's honestly the perfect way to try out games before buying them and figure out what you actually like. The staff is really friendly, the service is always great, and the overall value is amazing. I have to say, as much as I appreciate how knowledgeable the staff and their wide selection of boardgames, I am severely disappointed in the store management and current business practice. I preferred to support this store because they're a small business and always did their best to be fair towards their customers. Today with the release of the new Pokémon card set, however, they've lost much of my respect. To charge OVER DOUBLE the price ($140) of an Elite Trainer Box ($60) is disgusting and no better than the scalpers who prey on people who collect for a hobby. Sure you can say "supply and demand" or "it's the market" as the reason but it amounts to nothing more than a weak argument, terrible business practices and a disregard for their clientele. Board Game Paradise pride themselves on togetherness through board games, card games, etc. but by the prospect of SCALPING cards themselves show that they do not care for the community. They will try to drain your wallets just because they have the opportunity, and disregard the casual hobbyist. I never would have expected them to stoop so low and prove that they only care for your money when big companies like GameStop and other small card shop businesses didn't even dare to raise the price because they respect their shoppers. read more

I went in the shop over the past weekend just to see what selections they had and they carry a lot of stuff if you're looking for sleeves for your K-Pop collection or if you're on the card playing side they have decks and table game sets. My issue though was one of the workers who was working the register at the time I came in. I had asked a question about a specific item and he gave me a demeaning answer when he could have just said that they didn't carry it. I'm not sure if he knew he was being rude but that's how it came off towards me and I didn't feel comfortable shopping in the store after that conversation. I had nothing against the shop and I would love to support local shops around but if you have employees who aren't aware of how they speak to customers it's gonna drive them off to bigger retailers. read more

I've been coming here for 2+ years whenever I'm visiting Redlands. They have a great selection of tabletop and trading card game supplies (such as dice and sleeves). I cannot recommend this store enough! The staff are friendly and super-helpful, the games are organized logically by difficulty and then alphabetically, and the selection is huge and diverse. I found some not-so-easy-to-find titles, which impressed me. There is also a clearance rack which had some amazing finds, and a back room for gamers to play and socialize. When I learned there was a new boardgame store in Redlands I was excited because not only is it a popular activity, Covid-19 aside, I've been an avid gamer since the 4th grade and was playing Dungeons and Dragons regularly by the 5th grade. Games then were so 'old school' but stimulating for creativity, strategy, and tactics. Applied logic in other words. Today's games are a diverse array for all ages and Boardgame Paradise lives up to its moniker because it includes so many choices and accessories that it's surprising they all fit so neatly in the given space. Clean, bright and with shiny wooden flooring the setting is inviting. For example, follow the river overlay to the children's section where games and puzzles suitable for a wide age span are neatly presented. Fun stuff! Do you like or want to try role playing games (RPGs)? If so, then the section on the wall with Dungeons and Dragons books, starter sets, miniatures you can paint (a plethora of colors are also available), or buy pre-painted are available to start your next campaign. Need card sleeves (recommended to keep those dirty mits from smudging artwork)? They also have a vast selection for every popular size such as Tarot, US and European mini, US and European standard and so on. Looking up is advisable since most sections have oversized Scrabble pieces arranged for the area bellow. My favorite is the huge "Heavyweight" game section that features medium to advanced games such as Gloomhaven and the expansions, Lord of the Rings and War of the Rings (the former uses a nifty app to guide the flow of the game). These games typically have lots of parts, geomorphic gameboards, and intricate miniatures that you can choose to paint. In the back is a small gameroom where Monday nights new games are taught. See Discord, Facebook and Instagram for monthly schedules and other events. The dice section alone is worth the look, so many colors, materials, and functions! I also appreciated the chess equipment. The classic strategy game deserves its due and while you could spend a fortune on a sweet board and pieces, here's a tip: Real pros use simple vinyl roll-up boards, weighted plastic pieces, and a clock for 10-minute games, or the heart rate increasing 5-minute competitions. Prices are MSRP but here's why supporting a local store is important. First, the packaging won't be damaged or mishandled. Second, knowledgeable staff. Third, there's a toy store next door so the neighbors are compatible. Finally, the owner, Richard, is passionate about his business and really loves games and wants everyone else to see how fun they are. I wandered into the store in downtown Redlands a few months ago to see what they were all about. The staff was super friendly to my wife and me, patiently answering all our questions about D&D and trading card games. They even gave us a tour of the upstairs gaming area. I ended up preordering three Disney Lorcana starter packs. Fast forward to August. After receiving my Lorcana cards I attended a release event. It was pretty fun meeting other players and learning how to play the game. Richard the owner as well as staff members Jon, Nicki, and Ryan were so welcoming since I was a total noob. The staff also helped get some accessories for my cards including sleeves. I found some cardgenics sleeves that were reasonably priced. The Lorcana events are fun too, with raffles going on throughout. I really appreciate what Board Game Paradise is doing for our local community. read more

The only problem I have is their trading card section is pretty weak even though they try to also brand themselves as a place to play those. I was surprised they have such a large inventory of games for a pop-up store. I saw a Facebook ad for a BOGO deal if it's your birthday, so I got 2 games that I had been wanting to play. These games never go on sale, so it was awesome that I was getting these games on a deal and supporting a local business. A friend also told me that you can try out board games in their backroom for a small fee. That seems like such a great idea and I'll definitely be back with more friends! The staff were incredibly nice and even took time explaining some of the games I had never heard of before. Would go to BGP to support local business' but how they handled their recent Pokemon drop is scummy and will not be going back. Charged over double MSRP for the latest Prismatic Evolutions products. I understand product is limited and highly sought after but just like other stores nearby, offering an option to rip the plastic seal off for those who want to open it and not scalp (on release day) like others should have been the solution. I can see selling at market after release day but the day of release charging $130 for a $60 ETB is absurd. Hypocritical of the stores values. read more

I love that this place opened up in downtown Redlands! There used to be board game nights hosted at the Gourmet Pizza Shop but with COVID, those may have gone away. The owner even used to host game nights and sell games during Redlands Market Nights. Board Game Paradise is both a shop and event space. They sell a variety of games, are knowledgable on up and coming games, and host events that are on a weekly/monthly basis. I've been wanting to check out this new little DTR shop since they opened, and I finally made my stop the other day while perusing downtown during a little Christmas shopping spree. I was warmly welcomed by the staff, and was given a little tour around the shop. They familiarized me with the kinds of games they offered, and even took the time to explain how to play the games I was interested in. I don't know a whole lot about board games, so I greatly appreciated the advice and knowledge that came from the employees there! Both employees wore masks, which made me feel safe to be shopping there during a pandemic. I will definitely be returning here to buy more games in the future! A great addition to the Redlands community! Back in October I noticed new tenants at one of the old Downtown Redlands storefronts. Amongst the incomplete interior were a few board games on the tabletop. Could it be...? I spoke to Andrew, one of the owners of Board Game Paradise, who was overseeing the renovations. We talked about a number of things, but the main thing I took away from our conversation was an excitement for a local game store tempered by the timing of the pandemic. What would be the reaction to a brick-and-mortar game destination? Per Andrew a pop-up store was a way to evaluate the feasibility of a game store. Several months and a long-term lease signing later, I think it's safe to say the reaction has been positive. Post-renovations the game wall display is cleverly curated in increasing complexity, and the helpful staff are always there to provide recommendations or guidance. The backroom has been delegated into a playing space for mini-events or rented time slots. There is already a steady growth of collectable card game sessions and table-top RPGs/board game demos.
