    Cake tasting

My now husband and I needed a cake and/or cupcakes for our up coming wedding. I knew the owner, Cheryl, from a cupcake decorating class probably 10 years ago, and shortly after class she opened her own business. I had not tried her cupcakes yet (regrets this now), but decided to call Cheryl and set up and appointment to try them. We arrived at the shop, which is a good size place. It's a cute cafe style place, with room for people to sit and enjoy a cupcake. She has multiple regular flavors, as well as seasonal flavors. She let us pick a bunch of cupcakes to try, so we tried 4 flavors that stood out to us. Each cupcakes was delicious! Mind you, I have taken cake classes and did my own baking for quite sometime, as well as my family... but Cheryl's cupcakes blow mine out of the water! The whipped cream frosting is to die for... the cake is moist (sorry for using that word, but not sure how else to describe it) and not dry at all... she also has creative fillings like apple pie, then puts a small slice of cheddar on top! We were not able to try that flavor the day of, due to it being seasonal... however my dads a huge apple pie person so we went and took a chance with that flavor, along with 3 other flavors. She suggested we choose 3-4 flavors (for 100 people) so people have choices. She also suggested ordering 120 cupcakes for 100 people because some folks like to take more than 1. She was totally right- every cupcake went! I also ordered a cake top so we can actually cut a cake. We ordered any flavor we wanted. I ended up with white cake and strawberry (I didn't want chocolate in my teeth LOL). Honestly we didn't even have to look at another cake place we were so impressed with Cheryl, we booked her immediately. So happy we did. Everyone raved about her cupcakes. I also believed pricing was fair, going price for fancy cupcakes. She came and set up at the event with her husband, right on time. She also let us borrow a choice of cupcake stand if we didn't want to buy one. We just had to return it within 5 days of the event. I will gladly do business here anytime I need cakes or cupcakes... I was excited to return the cake stand so I can buy some more!

Pretty good cupcakes- I got the hot cocoa, carrot cake, salted caramel and the last I can't remember they were alittke on the drier side, and quite cold so I thought maybe that's why they were alittle dry- but they were fluffy and tasted good. My 2 complaints would be the price. $3.50 for. Cupcake is up there.. In my opinion. And the packaging they come in tore them apart when I went to take them out of box- they have a pink box and in the box is a seperater so the cakes don't touch but I think it is to tight around them.. When I went to pull them out and broke the bottom off on a couple of them. Otherwise it was a nice little shop.

A Cupcake for Later is part of the Downtown Arts and Eats District on Main Street in Willimantic, CT. And the location is smack dab in the middle of so much arting and eating action! You can see so much just from this one location. Owner Cheryl Preston and her husband have been happily sharing the joys of their labors with the community and have generously given to various events and activities. They are devoted to the art of perfecting cupcakes, cake, and even do birthday parties if you want one on site. Recently, a couple actually got married in their store! I really like the breakfast cupcakes. And one other things I really like is the fact that you can even design your own flavor for your event if you want to get goodies from ACFL. Now I think that that is just divine! I could think of three flavors right now that would be winners! Stop in the store, linger at a table. Enjoy your surroundings. Take a break from life or take your goodies home with you in one of their bright pink boxes. You won't be able to keep it closed once you leave! There are also allergy sensitive cupcakes if you are gluten and/or lactose intolerant. No one needs to leave hungry. So come visit ACFL. http://www.acupcakeforlater.com/

Cheryl is miserable. Incredibly rude because of her booking mistake. No one should have to deal with that. Place sucks.

I prefer it to be made from Single Origin beans, from places like Africa that have bright flavor profiles. And I prefer a medium light roast that highlights the quality of the bean. Most places make their iced coffee from blends and medium dark or dark roast levels. Grounded Coffee Co is the rare CT coffee shop that made my iced coffee with an Ethiopian Single Origin roasted by Ilse. Ilse, a North Canaan, CT, was not on my radar. They are now. This was one of the best iced coffees I've had from a shop all year. And it matched my preferences. Grounded is small, but the shop was cute, had some inside seating, and seemed to have an outside seating area, although I did not go out back to see it. Service was friendly and helpful. Very impressed with this visit experience. Five Stars.

"I walked in, the baker said everything was sold I found out…read moreshe saved me some sweet jelly roll Yes, the baker shop boogie" (Willie Nix) Definitely a worthwhile visit! The store is pretty large with an oversized bakery display case showing off their classic bakery goods - think gorgeous cakes, pastries, and cookies. And to make your visit even more worthwhile is a restaurant with a sweet breakfast and lunch menu. We visited yesterday and had a very nice breakfast in their large dining room. There is plenty of seating and plenty of parking too. I had a Veggie Breakfast Burrito ($10.50) with sauteed onions, peppers, spinach, grilled portobello mushrooms, American cheese, and diced tomatoes on a spinach tortilla, It was excellent and the size of that burrito made it a decent value for the price. My wife had a $7.49 Ham, Egg & Cheese breakfast sandwich with an additional $1 bagel surcharge. It was a big bagel, and as you can see from our photo, there were three big ham slices included. Very good coffees were $3.59 each. On the way out, those gorgeous pastries in the showcase whispered sweet nothings in my ear, and helpless to resist, we ordered an Apple Pocket ($2.99) and a Chocolate Croissant ($3.25). How reasonable are those prices? We also saw that Marlborough has a refrigerated case with Grab and Go meals and stuffed breads. They are open from 6AM - 6PM on weekdays and 6AM - 3PM on weekends. We are now fans.

Good doughnuts, basic toppings, great owner…read more Came here because we knew the owner from a local pizza spot that always looked after us when we would stop by. He decided to branch out and make a tiny donut shop, so we wanted to swing by and give him a try. The shop is small, designed more for your pick up and go crowd. The signage is a little small, so you will need to know where to go to find it. The selection of donuts is akin to specialty cookie shops. They keep a standard selection of doughnuts on demand but also rotate out a few types to keep things fresh. You order your doughnuts with the cashier, and then get to watch your doughnuts get dipped and packed right in front of you. We got a dozen of these little doughnuts. Took our pics then dug in. As a doughnut, they are good. They are a cake doughnut with a little vanilla in the batter to give it a mellow buttery floral flavor note. Not majorly noticeable, but just enough to make it better than just straight up cake. The best bite was the strawberry shortcake. Fresh strawberries with a light whipped cream gives that flavor profile one would expect from a very solid strawberry shortcake. The rest were of varying states of okay for the toppings. The maple bacon was good, the local maple glaze was very maple forward and tasty. The bacon crumbles needed to be cooked more. They were a little too soft and chewy for that style of doughnut. The doughnuts with chocolate syrup needs a better chocolate syrup. Would probably replace with a chocolate drizzle instead. Would hold up better if not eaten immediately. Some of the glazes were not made in house, and were a bit too strong for some of the other toppings on them. They will need to figure out a way to tweak these glazes to not be overpowering. As a destination spot I would expect an elevated product, and this shop is not set up to be elevated just yet. It's set up to be a local morning doughnut place, which is valid but will need to fight to get people to see them. There's some promise to this business idea. They will need to commit to either a boutique tiny doughnut shop or a local pick up and on demand delivery spot. Either one could work, but they need to find their footing first. For those interested in trying this place, it's a good spot for a little sweet treat. Stick to the non-chocolate flavors, get enough to share, and enjoy!
