Worse customer service. The vanilla cupcakes are so dry there's no bringing them back to life. It is definitely not bakery quality. It's unfortunate they only have very little daily goods. I've gone on several occasions where they're out of things before noon. The person running the counter can be more personable and smile once in a while because she kills the vibe there. Decor is busy for my liking. Too many patterns. It's very eclectic. Plenty of good bakeries around to come here. The case for the macarons had labels that were not updated so by the time it was my turn to order I was told that there were only actually 3 options for macaron flavors (they said labels were not updated) and none of which were what I originally wanted. I went with the white chocolate strawberry macaron and a salted caramel chocolate chip blondie. The blondie wasn't the best but it did have a nice flavor- maybe it was sitting out too long as it had a stale type of crisp to it. The macaron was decent but not my favorite around. Maybe I need to come earlier to get fresher items-as none of them really blew me away but they were decent. I would consider trying them out again. read more

Taste by Spellbound is consistently delicious. Check their Instagram day to day for updates on what's in the case and news about any special theme days. In particular, we tend to get macarons which are technical perfection with a variety of flavors day to day. When they do special cookie stacks for holidays, I always have to nab one. I have gone to a few of the taste by spellbound locations. I really do enjoy that they have themed days for treats, however sometimes it's very difficult if you have a family or are working to get out to those days. I would hope that they would have an option to maybe order ahead or something like that. I really enjoy the different types of bars and cookies that they have and the cake pops and brownies are delicious. I'm not one for macaroons, but they do taste very good. I will say, however, the prices have increased so it is a little bit expensive to get a box full of treats. I would've loved for this to continue to be a place that I bring things for my coworkers or to my family but unfortunately, because of the price is I have to make a special trip, which is fine by me! read more

If you want to find the most amazing sweets this side of the east coast, you MUST check out this place. Miriam and her team have 3 locations: South Windsor, Avon and West Hartford. More importantly though, are the actual baked goods! We don't know of anyone else making cruffins in the area and that's just fine with us. TBS also makes macaroons, dessert bars cookies, etc. But on this day, we decided to grab a French macaron, a lavender lemon bar and a peach and a berry cruffin. The macaron was such a delight! It was delicate, but with the slightest crunch of the cookie and the filling was sweet with a hint of salt. The LLB has the tangiest lemon curd sandwiched between a shortbread crust sprinkled with lavender seeds and a lavender icing. Kismet! And the Cruffins, well. The Cruffins put a spell on us: the flakes of the croissant was light, the buttercream on each was just enough, but to be honest, the fillings left us wanting even more of a dollop. We might be in a quarantine right now, but it's worth the social distancing wait!! Although seems like a normal store from the outside.... the moment you step in, it transforms to a place elsewhere. Did you know? The store is decorated in a fairy tale motif "Goldilocks," with visual cues referencing the tale's three bears and their chairs and beds....and not in a kiddie way..I must say it's very tastefully done..kudos to the creative mind behind this. After reading Yelp reviews for bakeries in the area, and looking at the photos they had on line, I knew Taste was the perfect choice for a 50th Anniversary cake for my parents. A three layer cake was hard to box up, but they managed to make it work flawlessly. The chocolate cake was so moist, the strawberry filling was sweet but not over the top, and the buttercream was heavenly. The restaurant staff was just as impressed as my family. And my parents could not have been happier. The buttercream was perfectly smooth and the rosettes were gold dusted. It was truly a beautiful and delicious cake. Worth every penny. So I'm a bit torn as I write this review to be honest. I have come to the South Windsor location several times to grab a chai and/or cupcake as I do some shopping in the area. I have always loved the cupcakes and bars here so I decided to order my sons birthday cake from here a few weeks ago. It was a jungle/wild animal theme and I chose one of their speciality cakes with the raspberry and lemon fillings and lavender infused frosting. I essentially wanted a plain white cake with gold drip covering the top and dripping down on all sides and green leaves scaling the front side. When I first called to place my order I was informed that they do not work with fondant so they would not be able to do the leaves that I was asking to be on the cake. I was asked to send a picture of my idea and was informed someone from the kitchen would call me back. The person who called back was very friendly and when I told her that I had been told the leaves could not be done, she told me they could! She told me they'd be extra $ and I agreed because I was excited they could be done! I also clarified that the photo I sent just had the gold drip around the perimeter of the top but i wanted it to cover the top. When I got the cake I was confused to see paper leaves on the front of the cake! I know the initial person I spoke to told me they didn't work with fondant but when the other girl told me they could do the leaves (after I said I heard they could not) I assumed we were both talking about fondant. I didn't even think to ask HOW the leaves would be made because I never ever thought paper would be used? Needless to say, I was (un)pleasantly surprised! Additionally, the gold drip was just along the perimeter of the top of the cake, so it was just like the photo I sent but not like how I had asked for it to be. Lastly, there were multiple areas on the top of the cake where the gold drip had been messed up and not fixed, it looked sloppy. Luckily, I had bought some very cute animal cake toppers, a banner and name plate on Etsy so it turned out nice for our quarantine bday, but I was still a bit disappointed about these few issues. The cake itself was good but I felt the filling-to-cake ratio could've been better (was like 1:5). The flavor combo is very nice but would have loved a thicker layer of both raspberry and lemon. I'll definitely still come here when I'm out and about shopping but maybe will be more clear next time if I ever order a cake from them again. read more

On a summer Monday, I arrived around 5:30pm to find the vast majority of sweets gone. (You've be warned.) I was seriously bummed out but took in my options: two chocolate mocha cupcakes, a chocolate brownie with rice crispy layer, key lime bar, and birthday cake bar, which was essentially a cupcake in a rectangular shape. I ordered one of each for a mini gathering, and I've never been more pleased with the compilation. There was something for everyone, and the quality and uniqueness was noticeable. Everyone had a different "favorite." I don't even like key lime that much, and that bar was a contender with the rest. I do wish I had had more cupcake options, only for the aesthetic, but it was my own fault for assuming there'd be more options on a weekday evening. I'm very happy with the treats I ultimately got. As other Yelpers have commented, the prices are a notch above average, but it was a small price to pay for greatness. read more

Just stopped in for the first time and it's safe to say it won't be our last! The inside is decorated SO cute. definitely a hidden gem in CT that is not mentioned NEARLY enough. The lady who helped us was extremely friendly and provided good suggestions! We ended up doing a giant butter beer cookie, a strawberry lemon bar, and a starburst cupcake. Everything was AMAZING. I really loved this place and always sent everyone I know who needed cupcakes or cakes there, but this past week I noticed the customer service has really gone downhill. I tried to reach out via email twice concerning a cake order for this weekend and I never got a response until I called the Avon store and then 15 minutes later my email was responded to, with we are booked this weekend . So maybe if they responded to customer emails in a timely manner this could be avoided or if they could state on the website how long in advance customers need to order cakes that would be helpful. The cupcake was very good It would be so much better to have smaller tables maybe lace tablecloths to match the wall decor motif instead of big booths and how about a little service Where you get your coffee is not pretty at all it's a shame because it has so much potential and could be very prosperous as well !! Taste offers consistently great baked goods, from cupcakes to macarons (my favorite) to cookies, ice cream sandwiches (probably my second favorite, don't miss them when they start offering them again each spring/summer), special occasion custom orders, and holiday special pre-order menus and theme day menus. My kids still talk about waiting on line one May 4th for Star Wars-themed treats. (I guess there was a licensing issue with continuing that one, but it was spectacularly creative.) I've had a few birthday cakes made there as well -- never a wrong step. Some of their options can seem pricey at times, but it's all handmade by what seems to be a small team, and it's so good that they often sell out of items before they're scheduled to close, so they're doing a lot of things right and I frankly think the prices are worth it. I also prefer their cupcakes to other cupcake bakeries in the area because they're normal-sized. I'm not a giant cupcake fan. Plus, they have a nice little punch card reward system where you can earn two free cupcakes, and every time we hit that level of visits, my kids get a real kick out of their "free" cupcakes. Finally, don't forget the coffee drinks and tea options! Their coffee is really tasty, as are the espresso drinks, and they have a good selection of Harney & Sons teas. Also, the decor and atmosphere in each of the stores is really nice. I frequent the West Hartford store the most, with South Windsor a close second. In both stores, the color palettes are relaxing and there's a great mix of new and old in the decor, with antique (or at least antique-looking chairs and decorations). It's a great place to sit down with a book, a decadent treat, and a fancy coffee for a little while. read more
