I always say, coffee shop reviews are generally only meaningful to people who share your coffee habits. I drink black iced coffee. I prefer it to be made from Single Origin beans, from places like Africa that have bright flavor profiles. And I prefer a medium light roast that highlights the quality of the bean. Most places make their iced coffee from blends and medium dark or dark roast levels. Grounded Coffee Co is the rare CT coffee shop that made my iced coffee with an Ethiopian Single Origin roasted by Ilse. Ilse, a North Canaan, CT, was not on my radar. They are now. This was one of the best iced coffees I've had from a shop all year. And it matched my preferences. Grounded is small, but the shop was cute, had some inside seating, and seemed to have an outside seating area, although I did not go out back to see it. Service was friendly and helpful. THEY HAVE ALMOND MILK! They have finally given us another milk option aside from whole and oat. I had to give up oat milk a few years ago and was super bummed when I couldn't get coffee from here anymore. But the wait is over. Some old staff and some new staff, sometimes the espresso is better than other times but you gotta learn somewhere so- I get it. Place is small and usually quiet and even with the ac blowing it gets a bit warm in here in the summer. Place is always cozy come winter. read more

They are serious coffee drinkers offering just a handful of carefully curated light food. I met a client there the other day and ordered breakfast and an espresso. The espresso was provided with a side of seltzer. This is the classic preparation and it made a great espresso even better.The poached egg on a fresh bagel with tasty greens and a spicy spread was an excellent complement. The shop in a historic building is decorated in a modern fashion which contrasts the hewn floors. In the back, a sizeable yard includes several picnic benches to enjoy your coffee and breakfast. I was in Connecticut for a wedding and found this place when I was craving a morning coffee. They open early in the morning and have the oat milk as an option for an add cost. Don't waste your time with this coffeeshop if you just want a nice cup of regular coffee. First off they only have one roast and it's a light roast. Our coffee was bitter and burnt tasting.... Finally tried this local coffee place. It's such a cute building and I am so glad I went. The girls inside were so kind and helpful. They recommended a honey latte and their drip coffee. I just moved to Willimantic and have already been here twice. I love this place. The first time I tried their (fairly large) croissants, which were so buttery and flaky. Definitely worth the cheat meal. They toasted it so it was nice and warm, which made the butter taste stand out even more. The next time, I had an everything bagel with prosciutto, cream cheese, greens, and pickled onions, which I thought was a really delicious combo. I wish the bagel was a little larger/denser, but it was still good nonetheless. The shop has a cute atmosphere and I love the outdoor sitting area. I was craving an oat milk latte and this hipster place is the only place that could deliver ;) I stopped in for my first time over the winter and had a hot oat milk latte after never having seen oat milk on a coffee menu before. Try it. It's like a drink that is also giving you a hug. Since that visit I have only seen oat milk at 2 other places-- one in Philly and one in NYC. Willimantic is hip. I went back recently to do some work (hello free wifi!) and have that hug drink again, but this time iced. Served with a stainless steel straw, too, so you can feel like the environment AND your drink are hugging you! Also opted for the delicious sesame seed bagel sandwich, highly recommend. Had many experiences at grounded. While it is nice to have a place that serves all of us in Willimantic this place does it with a bad attitude. I have brought guests there and been generous to people to recommend. This place does not like when you ask to have milk rather than cream in your coffee and honey instead of sugar in your tea. Staff does not like when you ask for an adjustment to the menu options based on allergies or tastes. When you do ask they become visibly annoyed. Rolling eyes and when they do give it to you or "allow it" they do it with force, slamming it around. Time to go. I am a business person in town now for 22 years. Thanks but no thanks. read more

On my pursuit of a cute coffee shop, I found this one not too far from campus. It's a cute, trendy, modern, yet rustic looking coffee shop. I mean there was a cowboy there.... can't get more rustic can you? I think because of how small it was, it's more of a quick stop rather than sit in place - for me at least. The iced coffee was overall pretty good, I was hoping for more matcha flavor in my drink but I definitely enjoyed it. I'd probably get the mocha iced coffee next time because my sister loved hers. The guy working there was nice and helpful with any questions about our orders. They use cute metal straws so for all my environmental peeps, that should be enough to make you stop by haha. It's definitely a place you should try if you haven't. The prices are typical coffee shop prices, pretty fair. Gave it 5 stars but it's more of a 4.5, will revisit. read more

Stopped in for coffee after lunch on a Saturday. Loved the atmosphere. I could see sitting and hanging out and just being relaxed. I ordered a honey latte and my mother got a regular iced coffee. She loved hers and you could definitely taste the caffeine which was nice. Mine was just okay. I don't know if they made me the right one as it had no hint of honey. Strong though which is always good. I also ordered a buttered cinnamon raisin bagel. It was burnt which was a bummer. I'd stop in for coffee again though! read more

They make sure you like your coffee so don't hesitate to be honest about how it was made. Grounded is our favorite coffee shop, hands down. We are here at least 4 times a week and it's consistently delicious and satisfying. The quality of their coffee is far above any of the other shops we go to and the staff is wonderful. One of Willimantic's true treasures. The aroma of coffee housed in a beautiful old (1831) building with proud, delightful owners makes this a favorite destination for my cycling friends and me. You can take the Hop River or the Airline trail and land almost on the front stoop. There is outdoor seating on Main Street or In the Park out Back; the entryway to the park adorned with one of the famous "Thread City" frogs. The coffee and sweets are a perfect interlude to your day on the trails. For a more perfect experience,I'm hoping we'll soon see a bike rack in the park out back. read more

I woke this morning lethargic and unamused with Karen, she's my other half who's always up my keister about our financial standing with the rest of our neighborhood and it really ruffles my feathers. But on this faithful morning I decided to break my mundane routine of a dollar Cumberland farms cafe style latte and decided to stroll my frame down to this fine establishment. And man I tell you what a treat. The employees glowed with a youthful charm that brought me back to the days before Karen.
