This store has much more square footage than the other two stores in Modesto. The prices on some items are insanely low! They even list the going price at other stores, along with the price one will pay at the register. It is usually several dollars cheaper per item at the Grocery Outlet. She was having this conversation with a customer and repeated to say loudly " I would never wear THAT". After the customer left she then repeated the conversation for an employee. Again saying it loudly as I was on earshot. A week later I came in for something alone and seen the same worker, I immediately started having multiple panic attacks and had to leave not getting much on my list. I have suffered from severe panic attacks for years. I at one point was housebound and could not leave my house. This is something I am still overcoming. I have been so proud of myself lately for stepping out and doing things like this alone, something I didn't think I could ever do. This worker made me feel self conscious, when I did nothing to her but walk into the store. Right before I could finish my sentence, Carina LOUDLY said, "Ma'am, we only have one line so please get behind her." I mentioned we were together and she ignored me. 2nd incident... While I was shopping, I found a toy in the clearance section that I wanted to buy for my Special Education class that would have been a GREAT non-edible reinforcer. When I told her I got it from the clearance section, but it didn't have a tag... Right away her response was, "Well another customer put it there." I responded with, "Well there were about 3 or 4 of the same toy in the clearance section. So, if it isn't clearance I don't want it." She told me she'd check. She called someone and hung up and said, "Like I said it isn't clearance and someone put it there." I let her know again, "Then I don't want it." As she finished ringing me up, I asked, "Do you have a teachers discount?". Very rudely, she said you need a teachers card. So, as I reached for my ID badge and said, "Like my ID?" She rudely said, "No, a teacher debit card." I explained to her that wasn't a thing and the majority of school district uses PO's. She completely rubbed me the wrong way from when I first got in line until I left. Tried to see if I could contact Hobby Lobby, but they only take phone calls or you can physically write a letter. Maybe you should have a survey on your receipt, so Ya'll know how your employees are treating customers. The people stocking the store were much more helpful and cheerful than she was. This was my first time ever returning jewelry -- a wedding ring -- and it was not a casual decision. Keeping the ring is emotionally difficult for personal reasons. Before coming in, I carefully reviewed Costco's return policy on their website and even printed it to ensure I was within their guidelines. I brought the ring in perfect condition, along with the original receipt and certification. Cesar, the employee who initially assisted me, was professional, compassionate, and began processing the return without issue. Based on the written policy and the interaction in store, there was no indication that my return was outside of guidelines. After I left, I received a call from the return manager, Cazandra, denying the return solely because "there was nothing wrong with the ring." That reasoning directly contradicts Costco's stated satisfaction guarantee. The policy does not state that an item must be defective to be returned -- it states that satisfaction is guaranteed. If a member is dissatisfied for any reason, the policy should apply consistently. Denying a return simply because the item is in perfect condition undermines the very wording of the guarantee. I was then required to return to the warehouse the next day to pick up the ring. When I brought a printed copy of the policy to discuss the inconsistency, I was met with resistance and an unprofessional attitude rather than a clear explanation of any written exception from Cazandra. The interaction lacked professionalism, empathy, and basic customer service. What was most concerning was that another return manager I spoke with did not understand why the return had been denied in the first place. That inconsistency suggests either a misunderstanding of company policy or selective enforcement. Costco's reputation is built on trust and standing behind its word. If policies are going to be applied differently than written, that should be clearly communicated to members. Otherwise, the satisfaction guarantee becomes misleading. This experience was disappointing, confusing, and completely avoidable. This would have been a 5 star experience if Sebastian and Cesar were the only ones assisting me through this process; unfortunately, Cazandra made it the worst experience I've ever had!
