I thought tj maxx was suppose to have good customer service? typically the younger staff are friendly and more welcoming, today Kim the "coordinator" displayed bad customer service. Made a trip to Modesto. Always find a TJ Maxx or Home Goods. This was a great store. Martha at the jewelry counter was so helpful and full of life. Great interaction and we found so much stuff! Store was clean and organized. I wanted more purses!!! I found some great Korean face products. Great pants. And some fun surprises. Kim at the check out was super kind and very good at her job. I was super polite had a question about an item that was up priced when I had just seen it for lower the day before and she was so rude and the cashier even apologized for her behavior. Wanted to say thank you to a person by the name of Martha who helped my 81 year old mother with locating some things she needed in the jewelry department. Her patience and understanding of what it takes to assist older customers takes compassion discipline and understanding. The manager young with short hair, refused to exchange or return a tool item that would shut while I used it. She had another worker sit there and try to run it to see if I was lying. I tried to use it twice and 15-20 min in it would just turn off and not work. They made me feel dumb and I had gotten it 2 days prior I had my receipt and all. Ditto. 100% Italian cashmere duster coat? Scored! It's necessary to fully inspect any red tag item, because there may be a defect that's responsible for the final markdown. And final sale is final sale. If you do find an item is defected, they'll often only give an additional 10% off. Up to you if it's worth it. They've expanded to kitchenware. Calphalon, Kitchen Aid. And even cake stands. There's actually an assortment of cake stands. I love that. It does get messy. I've seen the shoe department looking like a group of toddlers played in it all day more than once. Same for the racks. ATTENTION NOW SHOPPERS: SHOPPING NEWS ALERT: TJ Maxx is now the best (IMHO)! Ross's and even Marshall's has fallen behind. Ross's stuff looks like crap that I would be embarrassed to donate or even put into my trash can! Because of the crapo-pseudo-recovery-dep-recession, all stores have downgraded the quality of their stuff, even Nieman Marcus (AKA, Needless Markup). Most of their recent catalog had stuff $300 or less...which means only one thing...now it is really super-super-super overpriced crap, that now even lacks a major designer label for God's sake! Anyway, back to TJM. They have a great section for discounted gourmet oils, spices, pasta, and stuff. This is the same stuff that you will find in the Bay Area Whole Foods Markets at FULL PRICE PEOPLE! Buy some! There are also good deals on nicer Shampoo's, Lotions, and such....which are again sold at full price in the Bay! There are still some good deals to be had on Kitchen & Bath, but you have to sort thru the crappy stuff to find the treasure! The pots & pan quality has gone to the dogs, but sometimes there is a stand out. Some Towels & Bedding are OK, but you can find as good or better when that stuff is on sale at Target or Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The Men's Clothes are still total crap, just like in the original stores, like the fallen giant, Macy's. My wife rarely finds anything she likes in the women's cloth section...it usually is overpriced junk as well. And I rarely find any decent Toys there. But...I DO LOVE THEIR MULTICOLORED PLASTIC TOTE/GIFT BAGS... they are both super-strong and great for heavy Costco-sized gifts for the in-laws. You could put a Hippo or my mother-in-law in there and carry it around! (Just kidding, I adore my in-laws BTW...I know, I am weird!) I hate those way overpriced Hallmark-style flimsy gift bags! Visited this store yesterday and we an a friend needed to use the restroom Walk in oh my god it stunk so bad and my friends walks in to the empty stall and there was feces all over the toilet toilet paper everywhere just nasty so she went to the next one since there's only two and she's using in that one and there's feces smeared on the wall and it was dry. It's been there quite some time. no seat covers had to use paper towels. Absolutely disgusting not to mention the store was filthy as well. read more

Don't go here to search for men's clothing. Years ago, T J Maxx changed to set itself apart. It has an upscale look for a liquidation type of store. That said, if you're looking for men's clothing, you're in the wrong store. You'll find more than 50% of the store dedicated to women's clothing and shoes. Terrible customer service. Brought in 5 clothing items to return 6 weeks after purchase. In accordance to company policy, I was expecting store credit or exchange, not refund due to over 30 days. I also brought in an outfit I had purchased for my toddler that the employee had forgotten to take the security tag off of. First, I got grief for the outfit I just wanted security tag taken off of. I had the receipt clearly showing I purchased the item. Next, I went to exchange the clothing. A pair of shorts had fuzz on them - that's how I purchased them! They were right next to an ugly shirt on the rack that had this nasty fur on it and the fur had transferred to the cotton shorts. I had been unbothered by the fuzz - the fur in question would have gotten onto absolutely anything - and purchased anyway, only deciding to return because the fit wasn't flattering. The shorts had ALL tags attached and clearly were never worn. They treated me like a freaking criminal because the shorts had some fuzz on them! I think it's because it's the end of the season and they were going to have to mark them down to clearance. Beware the sheisty management at this store! read more

Love this place. Much much cleaner than the ross on Dale rd... I love this place. I have found so many great home decor pieces. Prices are excellent!! People are friendly..and I never have to wait in line for more than a minute or two... (ross you wait for days it seems!!!!) Have a good assortment of sheets, towels, kitchen accesories and even every now and then a few All Clad pots and pans!!!!!!!! (my weakness).. I love TJ maxx mainly for houseware stuff..and decor stuff... I don't really get clothes there and stay away from pants!! (I have had bad luck with pants there..they are usually 'irregular' and they have a 'sexy' zipper that always wants to be down!!!!! Very embarrasing!!!) I don't buy pants there..but I might occasionally get a cute shirt. They have cute pjs. And I do sometimes get baby clothes there for baby shower gifts..(lots of these baby clothes are still at regular stores!!!!) I am not really fond of the furniture..it looks rickety..and if I so much as breath on it it will fall over..lol. they have cute scarves and gloves.. Lots of purses and CUTE luggage!!!!!! And love getting good shoes there for myself and my mommy...my favs: Josef Seibel's, clarks, naturalizer, dansks, Borns, and cute comfy sandals...well priced compared to the stores that sometimes still have these shoes on sale there!!!! I love this place for hunting for quality purses/bags and facial treatments! I've gotten a Michael Kors bag here for under $100, I'm not a big fan of Dooney and Burke large purses but I've definitely seen them around as well. H20 & Elizabeth Arden & Shiseido face creams/masks/etc for really good value here as well and I love it!!! I always go to the back area for cute frames and decor... you never know what you might end up with! If you have not been here, go! The store is neat in a lot of interesting ways. You can get a shirt for cheap, or a few aisles over, you can get a human head paperweight. I have bought many successful Christmas and birthday presents here. The prices are low so I don't know how this place isn't more popular. My guess is the location. I usually love going to tjmaxx but today I discovered something. If you see that the item you are going to purchase has two price stickers on them (one of top of the other ) check them both out. I purchased an item today that said 7.99$ oh good deal I thought. When I got home and took off the sticker to unwrap it... The bottom one said 5.99. dont get me wrong, i really like tj maxx and think they are the best of the discount retail stores out there (e.g., marshalls, ross, etc.). i have had many "finds" over the years at their store and enjoy browsing around. but, (oh yes, right there was the inevitable BUT), i am starting to question their quality as of lately. years ago, you could score a really cool find with a legit high end brand, and pay half the price. however, over the last year my purchases from there have had problems that crop up after a few initial uses. take for instance my most recent purchase, a fantastic mod-like retro styled HEYS hard shell roller suitcase. i love it to pieces, but after one trip the clear plastic coating is peeling off in numerous places. its under HEYS warranty, which i guess can be fixed at one of their approved locations, but what a pain in the ass to have to drive 3 hours roundtrip (twice) to get it repaired. and who knows what it will look like after this repair? i mean, are they just going to saran wrap the entire thing and stick some tape on it? tj maxx's ads tout how they dont have knock-offs, and have department store brands for bargain prices. well.....yes and no. you see, a lot of known brands are usually made specifically for their stores. hence, the quality, cut, and materials are usually chinzy and wont last after 5 washes. this has been my experience at least. but will this stop me from going there and hoping to find the exception? of course not! read more

Horrible customer service! Please avoid KIM at all costs! KIM is the old woman in charge of the cashiers. Frankly, I don't know how she got that position when a CEC or any coordinator should know how to act accordingly. She's so ghetto and RUDE! I purchased a curling iron on a Friday and it did not work properly so I wanted to return it. The store is messy and there were 4 cashiers standing behind the counter talking and only one ringing customers. There were 3 of us customers standing in line staring at them. Finally, another cashier (Carina) walked slowly to the register looked annoyed because the other one walked away from her register. Really? No one wanted to do their job in this place. I'm a sucker for a good deal. Even better I'm a sucker for a good deal on a name brand item ... Uh can you say hello Roxy flip-flops! I snagged a black leather pair for $12 bucks, and a regular pair of rubber for $7 for our 11 year old Roxy aficionado. It's a perfect place to get the brands our girls like for way less. I've been coming to this TjMaxx for years! Sometimes I come across scratched or damaged items and unfortunately those are the last of its kind and sometimes I just purchase without asking for a discount. Today I found a few items and two out of the 3 items I was purchasing were really scratched and visible but due to its limited supply (being the last available) I requested a discount to which the kind cashier lady went to ask her manager about. This is about the 2nd-3rd time out of all the decades I've been into this Tj maxx that I've ever asked for a discount and every time this manager "Marie" is there she says "No"in a very rude manner and responds with some bogus answer/excuse as to why she "Can't" give the discount. When I explained why I feel I should get a discount and showed the flaws on the items I was going to purchase, she just repeats why she thinks I shouldn't have the discount.
