He understood our requirements and communicated the solutions in an efficient manner with high integrity. With stories around dealing with irresponsible roofing companies or contractors with faked licenses, I was skeptical going into the project. But B&J and the crew has earned my trust and confidence from the initial inspection to the finish of the project. Our old asphalt roof had reached the end of life. There are leaking marks in the living room so replacing with a new roof before this year's rain season became critical. We decided to go Metal. I interviewed 6 companies in the beginning. 3 of them, you can tell that they spent too much money on marketing and sales, so the quotes were unreasonably high. Brian finished the inspection in 30 minutes. We asked quite a lot of questions and all were answered to our great satisfaction! We received a reasonable quote with no sales and marketing! We eventually chose B&J out of the other two because of the smooth and professional communication with Brian, the right pricing and a transparent term with NO overcharge. It took only a week or two to get on B&J's inspection schedule. But because of their busy schedule in the summer, the actual project started in early October. Brian communicated the timeline very transparently. We understand the schedule. The crew came in on time and got the whole roof done in a week, right before the raining season. Brian and his team had also demonstrated what real customer service meant not just before the project was done, but even after. A day later, I realized that the corner of the house had unusual dripping of the water. It turned out to be the clog of the corner downspout. Brian took our request with NO hesitation and came to help us wash everything clean. This is how a high integrity work looks like with hard work, customer driven care, kindness and passion of great work. Now we enjoy our new metal roof in the rain season with no worry of leakage. I am really proud of my choice and would recommend this company to any of my friend and family member.

I did not want to have to build a new awning and B&J found a solution for me. They were quick, quiet, and very professional (a neighbor even sent me a note saying how pleased she was with the low level of noise). They did a thorough clean-up during/after the job - no stray pieces of shingle and no nails. A buddy of mine went with a company that advertises a lot on TV and he said he is still finding nails in his yard/driveway/etc. Great job folks!

I paid extra for what, at the time, were called 25 year (asphalt) shingles instead of what were (at the time) called 20 year shingles. My roof still looked OK, and I was confident that it would go through at least one more winter without leaking. There was a certain amount of low-level stress, though, whenever I thought about my old roof, so I decided to get a new roof. I got two estimates, but I liked the idea of A Better Roofing doing the new roof 32 years after they did my first new roof. I also liked what I read on the A Better Roofing website on their "About Us" webpage https://www.abetterroofing.com/about-us/ and their estimate was lower than the other contractor's estimate. The A Better Roofing crew removed the old roof then installed the new roof, all in one day. Since I got good results/value paying extra for upgraded shingles in 1994, I paid extra for upgraded shingles in 2026. :) After my new roof was installed and I had paid, I told Christian that A Better Roofing had installed my previous new roof in 1994. He told me that more than half of their business is referrals (a new roof owner recommending A Better Roofing to someone else who is ready for a new roof) and repeat customers (like me). Look at me: I repeated and now I'm referring. :)

I've never had anything like this happen to my home before and I was completely overwhelmed with the situation. Shay took the time to explain to me what my rights were with my insurance company and empowered me to wrest control of the rehabilitation of my home back into my hands. I felt as if I should have paid him at least $500 just for the valuable information that he gave me. He also secured my roof from further damage as he did not want my husband or myself to go up on the roof and have to do it ourselves. I did not ask him to do this, he offered to do this at NO CHARGE!!! He also made sure that the property was secured on the outside and inside before leaving my home. I had not signed anything and he wasn't acting as if he was getting the job. What he was doing was acting like a caring Contractor who also happens to be a very kind and caring individual. I don't even have a bid yet from Shay Barber of First Choice Construction, but I plan on hiring him, whatever the cost, as he's already earned my trust! I already had two contractors come out and give me bids and each contractor had assumed that they would automatically get the job even though I had not indicated that I would hire them. He then surprised me with wanting another few hundred dollars which was NOT discussed. He gave me an estimate for repairs and it was not the lowest but was doable. That was end of April. I paid half down beginning of May with the promise that supplies were purchased and I was on the schedule. 8 weeks later he finally shows up for ONE day. He announced the next day my whole roof was rotted and needed to be replaced. His words..."shit roof". He discussed for an extra $3000 he could do more extensive repairs in lieu of replacement. I asked for a written estimate. the estimate came in an extra $9k. this was over the last long July 4th weekend. I "disapproved" the change order. I texted this, sent two emails and finally when I asked about getting it completed prior to rain on Wednesday, he said :"It'll be no problem for us". I added that I wanted to ensure he does NOT buy supplies as I said NO to the extensive work he wanted to do. They show up on Monday, late again. I called Shay again to ensure he knew I did NOT approve the extra work. he then proceeded to curse me out, that the supplies were already purchased and the work already started. I said that makes no difference as I never approved any of it. The cursing continued. BTW-the ridge vent had only just then was being pulled up about two feet before I stopped them. he then demanded more money to put things back together or he would make his guys leave my roof open and exposed. he finally hung up on me when i did not give in. he called back and I agreed to pay him all but the last $2k just to get this closed prior to raining. I called the office, Chepe was very nice and took my card number. After the roof was done that day my plan was to pay the rest by cashiers check. when I checked my account I found that the last payment had already been processed by 1st Choice...without my authorization. From the other reviews, this seems to be his tactic. How he is still in business is beyond me. Although this is a long review please DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! The employees are wonderful but Shay is unprofessional and borderline abusive when his tactics fail to get him more money than the original estimate! Jeanette Eyler
