The oxtails were fine. They were some what tender, flavorful, and coated in a rich sauce that soaked into the rice and beans. My only complaint was that I wanted a few meatier pieces. With oxtails, there's always that delicate negotiation between bone, fat, and actual meat, and my plate leaned a little too heavily toward the first two. The sides were where the meal lost some momentum. I went with rice and beans, which did exactly what they needed to do, but I wasn't particularly impressed with the cabbage. The plantains were not enjoyable that day. More importantly, I wish there were more side options altogether. Jamaican food has too many great possibilities for the supporting cast to feel this limited. The pricing is also a little curious. There isn't much difference between a small and a large, which makes ordering the small feel almost financially irresponsible. Just get the large. Is this the best Jamaican food I've ever had? Absolutely Not. But it's certainly not the worst, either. The oxtails were good enough to satisfy the craving, and I left feeling like I'd eaten a solid meal. With stronger sides, a little more meat on those bones, and a few more choices on the menu, it could be considerably better. For now, I'd call it a respectable neighborhood option when the oxtail craving comes calling.
