Strawberry Matcha Latte and sea salt strawberry green tea
    Michelle O.

I chose no sugar for both the Strawberry Matcha Latte and sea salt strawberry green tea. I'm fine with less sweet drinks, but I didn't expect both to be so bitter when they're based on a typically sweet fruit. It kind of tasted like both tea bases were brewed bitter and not light and leafy. The cashier was nice enough to show the new and previous pins in case I wanted the other one as the freebie for purchasing (2) strawberry drinks. The staff member making the drinks was a little off-putting since she couldn't see the cream that was leaking and sitting under the rim of the plastic cover and tried to do a quick swipe and return it with barely anything wiped away when I mentioned it. I still ended up doing it myself. The other members were quick to clean the tables efficiently, so people could use them.

All these options. Where do I even start? I honestly want to try everything. I've been coming here for years, and the quality has always been pretty consistent. It may not be the best Asian-style bakery I've had, but it's definitely not the worst. The service is quick, the staff are friendly, and the space is spacious, perfect for groups.

Amazing bakery in Houston's Chinatown!! And so reasonably priced for the quality! LOVED the Hokkaido cream bun -- so good, such a soft texture with perfect filling (not too sweet) just fluffy!!!! Like a cloud in a bun. We really liked the potato croquette as well as a savory option (crunchy, and I think some corn inside, not too salty) and brought a bunch of other buns home to try. Everything is individually wrapped which makes it easy to carry out. We also had the mango delight that was behind the glass--mild but very clear mango flavor; with beautiful layers inside. Would highly recommend!!! Also nice natural sunlight with a few seats.

Love their pastries and their cashier is fast and friendly. Tried their strawberry danish in season right now and it's cute and delicious. Grabbed a few other slices of cake to share later and they are so cute and I know I my friends will enjoy Try the strawberry danish while in season

So much to choose from. Their buns with cheese are delish. Ordered the mango strawberry smoothie which was refreshing. Would definitely return to hit the sweet tooth!

Always stop by to grab some pastries and desserts when we are in Bellaire. Our family favorites are the chocolate bun and the brioche bread, but there are very few things we don't like. I will say, the prices have dramatically increased from even just last year but I understand the rising cost of everything. The lines are as long as they were when they first opened years ago, but the foot traffic inside can still be pretty bad some weekends. And parking is always a nightmare in this area, so just be mindful of who's backing in and driving into spots!

I've been going to this location for several years and usually visit a couple times throughout the year when I have to host a party. The spinach kale danish is my favorite but it is usually sold out. I once came 10 min after opening and it was already sold out so ended up waiting 20 min for the restock. I also like the egg tart & Hokkaido cheese tart. I've tried the iced viet coffee but it was too sweet for me. My go to is the iced lychee tea. Parking lot is spacious so usually never an issue. The checkout process is usually quick and the staff are always friendly.

Still my favorite place to go in Chinatown. My family and I get the same buns every time. My favorite is the Matcha bun and the Choco buns Oreo buns. All of those are my son's favorite and my husband is the only one that's brave that tries a little bit of everything. I love the strawberry dessert. I don't know how to explain it, but it looks like angel food cake with strawberry and cream. It's so delicious as well as the lemon cupcakes that you can grab on your way out. The service is always good to me. I know they take a while but that's only because you can tell how busy they are but they do have or you can order ahead. You can order from a machine as soon as you get there and wait on your drink they have many options And of course we're in Chinatown so you feel that vibe.

I love 85 bakery. I've never had anything bad from here. I normally order the sea salt caramel latte but they were out so the employee recommended the zebra oolong milk tea. The flavor was subtle. I wasn't wowed about the flavor; I regretted it lol. But whatever I will continue coming back for their baked goods and lattes.

Pastries are good but I wouldn't recommend drinks from here. Here's a picture of a $8 matcha...I think they should've added more matcha and less sweetness. Like it doesn't even look green it's a super pale green/brown color. Probably won't go back

Visited at around 8pm on a Wednesday night, and the shelves were still pretty well stocked. Egg tarts were limited to the 2 packs and 1 box of 6 reg egg tarts. Egg tarts are always a hit with crispy puff pastry and sweet, custardy egg in the center. I tried the chocolate mousse in a cup. This was a surprisingly tasty dessert! There is a layer of chocolate syrup on top of light chocolate mousse with a Maraschino cherry center. I could do without the cherry center personally, but if you like it then its a nice touch to spice up an otherwise homogenous treat. Three Ferrero Rocher chocolates on top were more than enough to quench my chocolate cravings.

Driving across town for my favorite treats--gotta love the red bean buns! We decided to try a variety and noticed they had a promotion: spend $30 and get a holiday mug for $1. When we got to the register, we asked about the promo, and the cashier said they didn't have any mugs. But there were at least 15 mugs sitting on the shelf! When we pointed them out, she told us they were display-only. A bit disappointing, but at least the treats didn't disappoint!

I've been to 85 bakery before but in dallas so this spot in Houston was a first. Still a good spot for all your Asian pastries cravings. Our go to spot for taro pastries. We got the marble taro bun, macadamia cookie, grapefruit green tea, and matcha oat PSL. The matcha was excellent, tasted exactly like described with pumpkin. The grapefruit green tea was so refreshing and the macadamia cookie was delicious. We will definitely be back if we are in town. Service was kind of as expected, it's self serve as far as picking your pastries and paying in the front. As expected for a pastry shop, it's a grab and go setting, some sit down but not much. Till then, let's eat!

Will they bring back the 85 cent coffee on Mondays?

Currently they are doing BOGO Coffee on Monday. Hope that helps!

Is it possible to place a large order for a certain pastry in advance for pick-up? Example 20 milk buns? Thanks!

Yes you can! I see people ordering a bunch of milk buns and picking up their box all the time!

Where is the bakery in katy? Unless it is being built. I don't see it when I type into google maps

I don't think they've announced construction/opening for one in katy. There's one on Katy Freeway and Blalock but not technically in Katy. There's a rumor about them opening in the new Chinatown area of katy but nothing official yet

How about an 85 in katy?

This store is in Bellaire I have not been to Katy location

I see a sign up in Telfair. Are you guys opening up in Sugar Land too?!

Its in a less trafficked area of Chinatown and sort of tucked away in a corner of the strip mall. It has a casual pick up and go vibe, with display cases of baked goods and a couple options on the counter (dont miss the caneles). The cashier (potentially also the baker) was friendly and was super patient with us as we were making decisions and then noticing a special and adding extra goods (sorry for making you box and unbox so many times!) Anyways, all the baked goods we got were reasonably priced around $3-4. They also have some larger tiramisu options but we didn't grab any this time. I got a canele, a variety of choux, and some cupcakes. I enjoyed the canele and it had a very nice crust but the center wasn't as custardy as some I've had but regardless I enjoyed it and I also rarely see caneles so it was a nice treat. The choux were the winners for me though, filled with various creams (I got mango, pandan, and pistachio). I really liked the choux pastry and found it light and crisp. The filling was also perfect, light, held its texture and didn't spill out as I was eating it, and perfect level of sweetness for me. I also enjoyed flavor of the cupcakes but I did think they were slightly dense. Overall, this was such a great find and glad we stopped by. It may end up becoming one of my staples to have pastries for the week!

We grabbed a few unique desserts: Durian dessert (for the adventurous ) Japanese cheesecake Matcha tiramisu Unfortunately, we had a few more stops to make, so we didn't get to enjoy them fresh -- but here's the breakdown: Durian: Very true to the fruit and surprisingly light. Not my personal favorite, but if you love durian, I'd absolutely recommend trying it here. Japanese Cheesecake: Comparable to Uncle Tetsu, but with a creamier topping that paired really well with the soft, fluffy texture. Matcha Tiramisu: Easily my favorite. It had that rich, bitter, earthy matcha flavor that tells you they're using quality ingredients -- super potent in the best way. Honestly, the matcha tiramisu alone makes me want to come back and try all their other tiramisu flavors. I already recommended this spot to a friend right after!

The glass display showcases a variety of different pastries and sweets. There is also a separate menu above for sandwiches, crepes, and quiches! I was indecisive so I asked the owner for recommendations and she chose the Mont Blanc and Total Raspberry Tart. Both pastries were perfect- the tart has a raspberry cream on the bottom and the fruit was fresh and naturally sweet. Not to mention, the crust was absolutely delicious. The Mont Blanc was just as tasty. The chestnut puree, Chantilly cream, and crust were all *chef's kiss* And the best part of it all is that the pastries were not too sweet (for those of you who are new to Asian pastries, they are meant to be lighter and not overly sweet)!
