In answer to that nothing did, we are very satisfied with the job Emerald Painting (EP) performed for us. Finding a painting company you can trust and feel confident the end product will be as good as you hope can be difficult. Our initial contact with EP was through Jonathan where he explained the process, answered all our questions, and then developed a quote. I was very comfortable with him and once we decided to go with EP, over a couple other companies, his responsiveness was outstanding. Once the painting started their focus on quality workmanship was excellent. We had a crew of basically 4 man (Guy, LJohn, Neal, & Derrick). I won't discuss their specific roles but each was professional, dedicated, and friendly. Over the three weeks it took (preparation & painting) it was easy to see their skills and desire to deliver a quality end result. As with any business nothing of quality is done without a topnotch office manager and Ellen is just that, in her own way she made our job happen. If you're looking to get your home painted I can confidently recommend Emerald Painting - Hawaii. Brian told us he currently did not have the money, would be traveling in Europe for several weeks, but would "guarantee to pay at latest by June 5th." We will update this review accordingly. ORIGINAL REVIEW (April 2026): Using Brian's Painting was a very disappointing and costly experience that left us with an unfinished home and significant financial loss. We hired Brian for a $10,000 exterior painting project. After collecting $6,000, he completed only about 10% of the work, then abandoned the project and stopped communicating. Brian requested a 40% deposit ($4,000) and later an additional 20% ($2,000) after a short prep stage that took about eight hours. After receiving the $6,000, he returned only twice for brief visits over several weeks, then dropped the job, leaving the house unfinished. (See attached photos.) We attempted to resolve the matter in good faith. We agreed he could keep the $2,000 even though several licensed painters we consulted estimated that only about 10% ($1,000) of the work had been completed by Brian. He eventually agreed to refund the $4,000 deposit, but after multiple deadline extensions has only returned $1,300 and has now stopped communicating altogether. We are now pursuing recovery through court and filing a complaint with the Regulated Industries Complaints Office (RICO), which takes enforcement action against unlicensed contractors operating illegally in Hawaii. We also had prior issues with a smaller job he completed in 2023, including use of lower-grade paint than what we paid for and paint splatter left on appliances. Despite this, we gave him another opportunity when he repeatedly requested the exterior project. We greatly regret that decision now. Bottom line: We strongly recommend homeowners to look elsewhere.

After looking at and watching it get worse we decided we needed to get it fixed. It's a 1000 square foot garage sitting under a 2 bedroom 1 bath addition to our house we built about 20 years ago, so we knew it would be a pretty big job. So, of course, we went to Yelp. Of the many drywall companies listed, one caught my attention, Always Local Drywall and Plaster. They actually only had one review, it was 5 star, but I liked the photographs of their work, So I gave them a call. The owner, Pohai Williams, agreed to come over the next day and take a look at our garage. As promised, Pohai came over and explained what needed to be done, and I decided to give his company a chance. The next day he emailed me an estimate, detailing everything that they would be doing and how long it would take. I accepted the estimate and two days later Pohai and a helper started the job. They were meticulous. They covered the garage floor and anything else we couldn't move to protect against the inevitable drywall dust and uncovered everything at the end of each day so we could continue to use our garage. After getting the leak fixed, I went on Yelp. Pohai was the first to respond and provided a detailed estimate. After reviewing other quotes, I decided to hire him. Pohai arrived a few days later and prepped the site well. He taped off the carpeted floor and several wall sections before working, and he completed the job in two days by himself. My son said it looks like nothing ever happened. Pohai told me that he's been doing this for 23 years, starting right out of high school, and it shows. I found him personable and easy to work with, and would not hesitate to hire him again. Btw he did not request a Yelp review.

William and the team at Ming Yang (MY) Construction are phenomenal!…read more Kitchen remodel, 5 Stars. They helped us step out of the 70s and into something so much more modern. From the first site visit to the final walkthrough, everything was seamless. William managed this project very well and guided us through this process with ease. At any point if we had questions he was quick to respond. The showroom they have is great and the experience of setting your preferences on design and materials is quite enjoyable. The only hiccup we encountered is that the supplier of the original tile that had been selected did not come in the size we needed and so it wouldn't have meshed well with the current tile in the living room. William helped us find a suitable alternative and we were able to pivot and are very pleased with the outcome. There were a couple of adjustments during the project but again related to the tile, we changed the direction of the placement which allows for us to replace the remaining tile in the house in the future if we decided to do so. William and team thinking ahead with our needs in mind really provided a sense of care. To top it all off, we wanted this build done ASAP and the team was able to complete the remodel in 8 days compared to their estimate of 10 - 14. We are extremely pleased with the work and so glad we went with a business right here in Kaneohe. Thank you William, Wen, and team! My renovation consisted of a full kitchen & bathroom remodel, with tub to shower conversion. I contacted a few companies and received various quotes, some of which required me to travel to various showrooms to select materials which as a first time home renovator, seemed overwhelming. However, when I was contacted by William, he informed me he had previously done renovations in my building and was very familiar with how the management office worked, water shut off, elevator reservations, etc. MY Construction's showroom had all materials/samples in one place where I could put everything together and get a visual idea; he also had tons of photos of examples on his phone to show me. Can't say enough amazing things about William and his crew, not only did he keep me updated daily, but he also handled so many of the nuance tasks on his own, making sure I wasn't distracted at work or taking on any unnecessary stress during the project. (He even dealt with a cranky tenant who had been accidentally double booked by management for the elevator as well as installing all of the new appliances!) The communication couldn't have been better. On to the finished reno; it's truly everything I wanted and more!
