A/C basic check approx $30. 5 minutes later: Basic check + freon = Approx $60. 20 Minutes later: Basic check + freon + evacuation/vacuum/recharge = $130 20 more minutes - I lost consciousness during the 10 minute explanation of what how much and what else needed to be done. Total of about an an hour of time and $120(I a 10% discount for checking on Yelp) and still have a A/C that probably just needs some freon. Will get a second opinion ASAP! They add your info in the system if you're a new customer, for returning customers you are automatically pulled up 3. Pay 4. Wait maaybe 20 minutes in they lobby (comfy, but no frills) 5. You drive away It makes getting my oil changed so easy that I don't even put it off anymore. Plus, they have one of those rewards cards, which means I am halfway to a free oil change! read more

These guys are as legit as they come! I took my Honda Pilot in for a brake job, and they were able to get the job done within 2 hours. They have a nice lobby area with WiFi, so those 2 hours went by pretty quickly. The brakes on my car feel great now, and it looks like the truck will be ready for a road trip. The team at Youniversal are quick, thorough, affordable, and just all around great people. I've always been one of those "Wal-Mart Auto" customers because it is "convenient" (aka their business hours), but you may have just converted me :) I came in today with a flat tire during rush hour 5 minutes after Youniversal closed. I was only expecting them to let me know what kind of flat I had--a puncture, just needed air, etc--and then if I needed a replacement then I'd go to the nearest Wal-Mart since it was past 6. Jessie (the attendant) was closing down for the day, but stopped to take a look and saw there was a huge gash in the tire. He advised me not to get it patched, but to actually buy a new tire--which definitely isn't in my budget. He went to the trouble of pulling some tires down and had the exact same tire for my 2010 Hyundai Tucson, a used tire but in really good shape and for only $40. Jessie was very quick and replaced my tire in less than 10 minutes, wheel locks and all. Not only was I grateful that Jessie and Deanna (in the office) decided to stay late to help me, but were genuinely happy to do it. I'm sending everyone I know to you guys! Being a girl going into an automotive shop can be scary. I always feel like I have to take my dad with me because of the fear of getting ripped off. So here is what happened. I got an inspection and Jiffy Lube failed me because my parking brake wasn't working the way it should. They didn't work on this but they recommended Youniversal for repairs. Another friend also had recommended them so I gave them a shot. They got it fixed within the same day of dropping it off, and took care of my alignment while it was there. They had justification for why certain repairs were needed now and which ones I could put off. I totally felt the vibe of honesty. Paying for repairs sucks, but not as bad as paying for stuff I didn't need. I trust them wholeheartedly. I will be back for sure, just hopefully not too soon read more

I live by Youniversal so when my Jeep's clutch broke down, they were the first ones I thought of. I had my jeep towed there, got an estimate of $1400 because, apparently, a leak had damaged the entire clutch system. They told me my jeep would be done on Saturday at the latest, but they didn't get it done until the following Monday. I was a little frustrated because I was paying for rides to and from work, but I'm not one to freak out about things I cannot control plus they said they'd discount a few bucks to account for it. When I got my jeep back, it made a really loud screeching sound anytime I'd turn. They took it back in, kept it for a day to check it, and their response was "It has nothing to do with us" I tried to explain to them that I've had the jeep for 5 years and had never had an issue with a loud screeching sound. It seemed odd that the moment they took it apart (for days), now it all of a sudden was making a loud noise. I have always maintained my jeep in the best condition and was extremely frustrated especially at the response "You should Google how it works." "Maybe you hit a bump or curb", he said. "That happens sometimes" How could that happen if they had my car? They gave me another quote. It would be another $600 to fix this new mystery problem. Another thing, they said they gave me a new brake rotor as a "courtesy" because they installed it to see if that was the issue. Because of this "courtesy" rotor, my jeep was actually going to make a LOUDER noise than when I brought it in to have it checked. (I had replaced my rotors pretty recently and I later found out this rotor was actually extremely cheap compared to the ones I had). Imagine paying $1400 to have your car fixed, having them damage something else that creates a loud screeching noise, and then getting a "courtesy" installation of a part that would make the noise even worst. I was upset, to say the least. The next day, when I attempted a U-turn on my way to work, my jeep made a loud noise and then turned off. I went to a reputable mechanic. I didn't tell this mechanic I had issues with someone else to see what they would tell me the problem was. As soon as this mechanic performed a diagnosis, he came back and said that whoever worked on my jeep last could've gotten me killed because the wheel was not properly placed. I asked him how he knew I worked with someone and he showed me part they had damaged, exactly how they damaged it. I paid $400 to fix their mistake, compared to the $600 they quoted me. If you're looking for a trustworthy mechanic that can handle bigger jobs, I'd stay far away. I paid so much money only to have them mess my car up like it never has before. They seem to be very condescending when they make a mistake they can't fix. Just read the owner's responses to bad reviews. I wish I had done that before deciding to do business here. read more

This has become my new "go to" auto repair shop in Austin! Their personalized, friendly service and the fact that they will not try to sell you something you don't need cannot be beat! I bought a battery from them a year and a half ago, but recently started having issues with my truck not wanting to start. I wasn't sure if it was the battery, alternator, or a bad terminal. I took it to Youniversal and they figured out it was just a bad positive terminal. PLEASE READ*** This was my experience at Youniversal. My check engine light comes on and I quickly scramble to get it fixed before major damage is caused to my car. Do what most people do and look for a decently rated mechanic who could get it done. I go here and talk to Robert who I initially think is a good guy. Give him the problem (O2 Sensor) that was pulled in a code over at O'Reilly Auto Parts. I get a call later saying that my intake manifold is cracked and it's going to be $1000 total to fix!! No way, I said. I'll pass and eat the damage because that will put me in the dirt. So I drive it away and to no surprise the check engine light is still on. So I go to Pep Boys on Lamar the next day. NO CRACKED MANIFOLD and O2 sensor wasn't the real issue. It was a vacuum leak. Got that done and now the light is gone and I feel better. Youniversal not only didn't do their due diligence to check for the root cause of the check engine light, but they tried to push on me that at had a crack in a major part of an engine. By the way, looked up the cost of a new manifold... $200. Will never go back here and hope that you do the same. Maybe get your tires rotated here or the oil changed because that's probably the only thing I'd trust these people to do. read more

I went to get a brake light replaced and the service was impeccable. I drove up and Danny was their to assist with no wait. I bought a bulb to save money but I purchased the wrong size by a size. He educated me and provided the correct bulb size with no extra charge. Taking about service! I would definitely recommend this shop. They are efficient and definitely know their stuff. read more

I will never take my car anywhere else!!!!! They have saved my car many times! Because of a fault at the dealership I bought my car from, I drove my car until it basically had no oil. Took it to O'Reillys to check the oil level and was told there was probably irreversible engine damage and that it would probably need a new engine. I was referred to Youniversal Auto Care and they were able to save my engine and save me HUNDREDS of dollars! Recently, I began hearing a whirring noise coming from the front of my car. I immediately took my car to Youniversal Auto Care. They diagnosed the problem very quickly (something that is a common problem in my make/model yet has no recall). Unfortunately I brought my car in too late in the day and they had to keep it over the weekend but I literally got it back right after they opened the following Monday! The total was about $300 LESS than they originally quoted! I'm a young, female, college student and have never felt like they were cheating me or overcharging because I "wouldn't understand anyway". They explain what they do/will do in detail, break down costs so I know what I'm charged, are willing to discuss everything with my family, save time and money for ME when the can, and are very kind and understanding people!!! They go above and beyond to do what they can and it is greatly appreciated! NO STARS! As I write this review I see an offer for a free lb of freon deal. How convenient. Well my boyfriend went here to get some freon put in. Of course we understand that if there's a leak, they can't do just freon (I read previous reviews). However, I should have gone by the few bad reviews of this place and not have gone. Well I did. WASTE OF $$$$$$. It was $96.00 for an inspection, brake light bulb and to get freon. He said there was a leak, BUT HE STILL PUT FREON IN??? We left and my A/C was blowing hotter than it had ever before. I bet these guys created the leak. Then told me it would of course be $562 to fix. They're schemers! Not only did we drive away to find that our car was still overheating but went back for them to tell us that they could check to see if the thermostat was the issue (which should have already been done in the $75 diagnostic) but it would cost us an additional $200. They claim to be giving good deals- ie free lb of fren, but why did they tell me the week before that the freon was 100%. I'm a big supporter of local businesses and I'd do anything to help out local businesses. After reading reviews with high ratings about Youniversal on Yelp, I had high expectations about Youniversal and to tell you the truth, I was disappointed. Sure, services were friendly and prices are decent for oil change, inspection, and tire rotation but what really hurt the rating was the lack of communication between mechanics and myself at Youniversal. I took my Jeep in for a oil change and tire rotation. Oil change was a success but it was tire rotation that had me concerned the most. After Youniversal, my Jeep was not same. Nobody informed me about the issue or bothered to follow-up with recommendations except that they just handed me papers with services that had been done on my car. During the service, I saw a couple of mechanics talking about my tire rotation and pointing fingers at my alignment, and of course, I wanted to know what the issues they were having but they failed to follow it up with me personally about it. Not even one mechanic bothered to approach to me about it. After I left the shop, the tires of my Jeep started to click, click, click, click, and click constantly that irritated me to no end. I suspected it may have something to do with CV joints or alignments. I would have followed it up with Youniversal but after the lack of communication, I figured it'd be a best option to follow up with a different shop. My friend recommended Silent Automotive to do a follow-up on my Jeep and mechanics at Silent Automotive were very, very informative: they walked me through visual inspection, explained issues about my Jeep, showed me videos about what were wrong with it, and everything else in detailed explanations, something that Youniversal had failed to do. UPDATED: DO NOT go to YOUNIVERSAL for tire rotation. They switched tires in a wrong format instead of X format. My issue was resolved immediately after another tire rotation at another shop. read more

Awesome service as always! I came in because my tire had been losing air twice in the last week so I figured I better get it fixed. They found a nail in it, which I had suspected and they were going to patch it up. Well after taking the tire off the technician came back in and said "you might wanna look at this first" there was interior separation and a bubble all on the inside so from the outside the tire appeared fine. The technician said he wouldn't feel comfortable just patching the nail hole because this tire could blow out because of the other issues. Very thankful the technician noticed the other defect. I keep coming back to Youniversal and situations like this prove they have a knowledgable staff that cares about your safety. I ended up not paying much more than what the patch would have cost me for a used tire that had the same tread as my other 4 tires. The tires I have are from Discount Tire and were no longer under warranty so I bought a used one and its been great so far. read more

This place is in my hood and they are very friendly and reliable. I usually come here to get my oil changed. I call ahead to gage the wait time and they are generally accurate. I even have a punch card so I get discounts on future oil changes. I've had so many bad experiences at Jiffy Lube that I would never go there again. These people are great, they took care of my problem! I randomly stopped in one day to ask if they could help me repair a dent that was pretty noticeable.
