Joe takes really good care of my 2013 Toyota Avalon! It's old but it's a great car and I still love it! I trust them to the necessary repairs and maintenance and treat me honestly! read more

Extremely competent. Trustworthy assessments and recommendations. I've never experienced any upsell behaviors. Joe (owner) knows his stuff. All the guys are pleasant and happy to discuss options with complex repairs. Additionally, loaner cars available at an extremely reasonable rate. Even though this shop is an hour from my house, I don't trust my vehicles to any other garage. Absolutely 5 stars. read more

Flamingo Automotive on Guadalupe was incredibly helpful when I needed it most. I had just purchased a used vehicle and couldn't get the gas cap open. Chip helped me right away and quickly figured out that the gas cap O-ring was sticking and just needed to be cleaned. Within a few minutes, I was back on the road. Fast, friendly, and knowledgeable service -- thank you, Chip and Flamingo Automotive! read more

These guys have been around forever and know what they're doing. I trust them so much and highly recommend.

I do a lot of my own work, so know when I'm be lied to, and these guys were very honest.

Normally, I don't leave reviews, but the hospitality and care this owner has for his customers is exceptional. My girlfriend and I came for a quick paint touchup, and though it wasn't his specialty, he cleaned up the area for free and guided us on what to do and where to go afterwards. Highly recommend! read more

I've been going to Flamingo for a couple years, but my experience with them over the past 24 hrs. took it to the next level. Joe, who is familiar with both my old Honda's ('09 and '14) continues to provide meaningful and practical advice. He anticipates concerns about budget, tells you want to prioritize over the months/years to come, and never pressures you into a decision. Yesterday, we had our old car in for a routine check-up. While I was picking it up at the end of the day, our other car's battery died. I shared this with Joe as an aside, saying I was glad that at least we had the serviced car to drive home, Joe said he'd be sticking around longer in the shop and would be willing to check out the battery for our other car. He lent me his portable battery jumper and said I could stop by either that night or tomorrow morning. He then drove me up to my serviced car so I could get to it faster. An hour later, I came back with the other car, having started it with Joe's portable jumper. I hung out at Flamingo after hours while they diagnosed and replaced the battery. The amount of care and frank advice that I've gotten from Joe is beyond any level I've ever gotten from a car shop before. It far exceeds what you'd ever get from a dealership shop. This last experience with them has solidified my impression of them, and has taken me from occasional word of mouth recommendation level to enthusiastic web review. read more

From out of town and renting a car without insurance, and of course I find a nail in my tire. Fortunately for me this shop was two blocks from where I was staying and MAN did I get lucky! Peter (I'm assuming the GM / owner) was extremely helpful and gave me a quick fix right then and there for a completely reasonable price. The guys on his team were also very kind and you can just tell that this is a hard working crew. I hope you gentlemen get all the business!! Side note, they don't have a designated front desk person it seems, so don't be shy to ask anyone you see for assistance if you've been waiting! read more

In a world of mechanics who simply replace parts, Flamingo gives you the professional judgment that you need to properly fix your car. Had a friend whose car had not run in several years. Joe at Flamingo laid out a plan and fortunately after changing fluids got everything back to normal. Thank you for a job well done at a reasonable price. He knows Hondas well. read more

Always great service and repairs. We have used flamingo automotive for decades. Friendly employees to take the time to explain everything.

I have taken my car here for service and oil changes for many years now. This is my FOREVER mechanic. They are awesome, fairly priced, and they do not try to rip off women! Ladies, we all know this is a rarity for mechanics these days. read more

My experience at Flamingo Automotive was a complete disappointment. After diagnosing my car, the mechanic Joe told me he could do the work for $2,500. I thought he was joking because the price seemed ridiculously high for the work that needed to be done. But no, he was serious. When I decided not to proceed with the repair, he still charged me a hefty diagnostic fee. It felt like a bait-and-switch, and I ended up leaving with my car in the same condition and out some cash for nothing. The whole interaction was unprofessional, and I wouldn't trust them with any repairs. Find a shop that values their customers and offers fair, transparent pricing--this one is not it! read more

I will never go to a different mechanic. Everyone is so friendly and the guy who runs the show is friendly and just generally fun to be around! I've gone for bigger repairs, and even stopped by during their busiest hours to get holes put in my car for my license plate and they found time to help me. I'm also a girl and I feel like everyone I've met here is genuine and not out to scam you like other mechanics in the area. Highly recommend! read more

I can't speak highly enough about Flamingo and its owner. I took my car last month to them to show them some extensive damage done to my bumper after a crash, and even though it was not the kind of work they did and it was a very busy day for the shop, Joe said he would try to help me by tying up my bumper so I could drive it safely to Houston which is where I was headed. AND he did it for free - didn't charge me anything for his time and effort!! Flamingo's commitment to customer safety and satisfaction is truly commendable. I'm incredibly grateful for their kindness and professionalism. I wasn't worried about driving to htx at all and reached there safely! Thank you so very much for going the extra mile when I needed it the most!!! Would definitely recommend!! read more

This place is the absolute best. Their service, their prices, their confidence and competence--superb!! And I know this quality is not something you might be looking for in an auto repair shop, but they are truly caring. I am an elderly, disabled woman with an elderly car. They always manage to track down hard to find parts, and, believe it or not, they drive me to and from my home while they do the work. Can't beat that! I'm lucky to have found them. Anne read more

Outstanding customer service. Even though they do not work on Jeeps they took the time to help me understand the knocking sound issues and made recommendations both on how to address and reputable places that could help. I was very impressed with their thoughtfulness and advice. Highly recommend them if you have a Japanese or German vehicle. read more

I never ever write reviews, but this place was so awesome I decided to write one for them. I'm in college and haven't had any car problems in Austin, so I'm clearly clueless and just needed to repair my side mirror that was unfortunately knocked off. Joe welcomed me and was extremely helpful, patient, and caring. He remembered me when I came in and got to know my dad over the phone. Everyone else I talked to was the same. He saved me money by re-using some of the remaining parts, which I feel like many car places would skip on and take any opportunity to charge you more. He also did what was basically a full car inspection for free. Great service and I would definitely come back. read more

Brought my '18 M2 in for brake fluid, tire repair, spacers installation, and an interior rattle that was about to send me to a psych ward. Great service and they spent the time and effort to locate and fix this unholy rattle. Joe is a BMW enthusiast and has a top notch crew who know what they're doing. Highly recommended, but if you're in the local Austin forums, you probably already know this. read more

Amazing amazing business!!! I noticed a plastic piece hanging off of the bottom of my car under the engine around 3pm on a Friday. It was definitely not sounding great when I drove, so went here because it was the closest to where I was. They were able to squeeze me in and get my car looked at within 10 minutes (even with no appointment or heads up), fix what was needing to be reattached, and even checked my tires and fluid levels before letting me go with no charge. Thank you Flamingo read more

Had a nail in the tire and since this place was close to my office I brought it in. $25 for the patch seems fair and fine. Since I needed an oil change regardless, ask them what it would cost. The front office receptionist said it'd be be $105. I ask "Does that include taxes and fees?" She rings it up on the computer, and all said and done it was $140. The oil place directly across the street does it for $84 with the same full synthetic oil and including taxes, so I went there instead. Also needed an inspection, so figured I'd knock that out as well. I had just put a camper top on my truck so the 3rd brake light was blocked a little, they charged me $90 to connect two wires so it could pass inspection. Definitely a bit steep and wish I would have asked how much it'd be before I got off the phone with him. Had the tools in the truck to do it myself in 5 minutes. Oops -- but that's on me for not asking. They are super friendly and do seem honest. Would def go here if cost weren't an issue. read more

I have been taking my BMWs to Flamingo Automotive for years, and it is by far the best auto shop I have ever worked with. They do great work, are so honest, and are a pleasure to deal with. Joe and his team are the best! read more

My car is a frequent visitor of Flamingo Automotive. I think my car secretly hates me. Anywho, a colleague recommended this place a while back when I was desperate for anywhere but Honda to take my CR-V for repairs. I had been burned one too many times by Honda and had enough. She told me that Joe is a very honest mechanic and will tell you when things actually need to be fixed and when they can wait. And over the years he has done exactly that. I've always been happy with how I've been treated. I do think that $50 is a little high for an oil change but they've taken such good care of me and know my car and it's quirks so I don't want to take it anywhere else. If you have a Japanese or German car - Flamingo is where you should go for your repairs. read more

Flamingo Automotive is sensational. Over many years, the owner, Joe, and his team have serviced my vehicles. I would not go elsewhere. Accolades abound for Flamingo's work, including honesty, utterly fair pricing, supreme expertise and execution, professionalism, congeniality, patience to thoroughly explain issues and options, and a commitment to resolve any problems in a manner that is best for customers, among others. Parish thoughts of going anywhere else. Flamingo is the best! read more

I love this place - the best mechanics ever. I've been going to Flamingo for years, and they have always gone the extra mile to make sure that everything is running smoothly before letting me know that my car is ready for pick up. They are honest, and skilled, and just genuinely nice people. I could go on and on about the various issues (big and small) they have fixed on my car and my kids' cars over the years, but will just say that yesterday when I had a problem with my car, they were able to work me into their schedule on the same day and fixed the problem for free and sent me on my way with a handshake. They are the best. read more

Joe and his crew always take care of my BMW & I completely trust their work & their word. Fantastic service !! I have been bringing my cars here for 15+ years. Very honest and thorough shop. They take the time to explain all repairs clearly in a language that non mechanics can understand. They make sure all charges are approved before repairing. They give you good/better/best options if applicable. You always feel like you are getting a fair price. read more

Service was amazing, and Joe helped me to take care of an issue (while he was busy with other customers). This type of service is not something that we often see these days. I highly recommend this shop! read more

Hard-working, honest service. Took a while to fix my car but I could tell they really cared to resolve the issues at hand and not cut corners nor price gouge. 10/10 recommend! read more

Joe and his staff truly have a way with cars! Every time, I bring a vehicle to him, it comes back smoother and better than before. This last time was no different. Asked him to install racing seats and look over the car for track day preparation. They noticed some loose bolts on suspension and failing U joint on drive shaft. Car feels AMAZING and performed very well on the track. Thank you, Joe and staff for always taking such good care. read more

This is an update of a previous review - they now have taken great care of 5 cars, include my latest, a Volvo. All the previous cars exceeded their expected lifespan, except the gen 2 Integra (RIP 6/28/2004, accidentus interruptus). They tend to be very busy, but also very thorough. If you love your German or Japanese or even Swedish car, highly recommended. read more

Super awesome mechanics. They've worked on 4 of my cars, all of which are "older" (90's sports cars are my hobby), some of which are not so easy to work on, and they've never missed a beat. Prices are always reasonable, work is always honest, timelines are always realistic and I've never had to return to have something redone because it wasn't done right the first time (like other places I've been to). Plus there's always cool cars to look at while I wait. 10/10. read more

Flamingo Automotive - Auto Repair Near Me - Austin, Texas

My son is going to school in Austin and we live in Dallas. Found Flamingo due to good reviews and Joe and his team did not disappoint. They were able to fix my sons car for less than what was quoted. Joe and his team probably the most honest mechanic we have dealt with ever. Can not tell Joe thank you enough for his service and help. Would recommend his shop to anyone. Thanks again Joe read more

Joe is awesome! Although very busy, he took some time to look at an issue with my hood. He was able to figure it out on the spot and gave me an honest, easy solution. It is really refreshing to go to an automotive shop where the staff is genuine and truly looking out for your best interested instead of just trying to get money out of you. I will definitely be coming back to Flamingo in the future for any car issues, thank you Joe! read more

I used to own a 1990 BMW 525i that had somewhere over 130,000 miles on it when I got it in 1998. I loved that car. Sadly, in 2000 it started to have a problem every month. My pretty little car was breaking down. After about 6 months of this, I asked Joe what I should do and he gently informed me that my car was going to need more serious repairs in the upcoming years and that I could get the most money for it right now. So I sold it and bought a Honda Civic. Practical, yes, but totally lacking the beauty, leather seats and smooth ride of my BMW. I loved Flamingo because I always felt that I was being treated fairly. This is a pretty hard thing to find in an auto repair facility, and it's even harder to find when you're a 20-something female (or any female probably). Joe or one of the other mechanics would always explain in great detail what they were doing and why, even though it went totally over my head. They even drew pictures a few times. read more

Excellent work, finally an auto service provider you can trust. They get busy because of their reputation so don't expect quick in and out if it's involved. read more

Probably like many of us we remember our fathers having a go to auto mechanic. Somebody trusted to give us the straight scoop about our vehicles and treat us fairly. My dads was Stacey Schwartz, and my go to guy is Joe Lamping of Flamingo Automotive. Joe has been in Austin for a long while and there's a good reason. Joe is passionate about automobiles. This guy is not just about fixing the problem of the day. He races, instructs others on racing (my wife) his kids, and is the true definition of a mentor and coach. His employees seem happy and motivated. His passion must be contagious. Yes I am a bit biased but I also know and appreciate a straight shooter / solid citizen when I see one. read more
