Just came in for an oil change but had a fan shroud sitting in my back seat and they offered to put in on..for free! Woo! They rock =J

I went in yesterday, 4/1/2015 to get my oil changed on my Subaru Outback. They also replaced a filter, because it was pretty nasty. $60 for the work, which is fine, a little expensive but whatever; happy enough with that. Unfortunately, they didn't have the type of oil that they needed for my car/that I had already paid for, so i had to wait almost two full hours for an oil change that should have taken 30 minutes tops while they sent someone to get the right kind of oil from I don't know where (job was real happy about that). Bad service nonetheless. However, if that was the only issue I had, I wouldn't be writing this review, I would just let it go as typical bad service. UNFORTUNATELY, my credit card information was used fraudulently about 6 hours after running it at Youniversal. To the tune of $600+, at Home Depot and Target. I can't prove who where how or anything else about my card information being compromised, but I do know that the only place I used that card (including zero recent online usage), that I have not been to many times before, was Youniversal. Oil Change payment, roughly 1:30 PM. Email from my bank saying fraudulent activity, roughly 7:30 PM. That's 6 hours. So, again, it is either one of the small handful of food places in East Austin I like to grab food from, which I or friends frequent at least once a week and have never had an issue like this with before...or...Youniversal. Again, I cannot say definitively where or how the fraud occurred, but unless this is just a case of really unfortunate serendipity, these guys may have an issue with their security. Whether it is an employee skimming numbers or someone with access to their POS remotely, I can't say. But I do know that fraud occurred roughly 6 hours after my card was used here. I called and talked to someone there; he tried to send me on to the owner, but I guess the owner wasn't in when I called (10:00 AM on a Thursday). The responses I got were less than satisfactory. I will not be giving these folks my business again. Ever. And I will definitely not be recommending anyone I like go to this place. read more

Been coming here for years with my cars. I have recommended family and friends over the years and always have been thanked for it. I know automotive isn't something people look forward to but these guys will shoot you straight and are as honest as can be. I didn't end up using them however I give them a three cause they were really nice and informative... I was gonna let them fix my truck but my husband got a cheaper quote at the Chevy dealership about 250.00 cheaper.. So expect a high rate.. I've owned two trucks over the past 4 years and have trusted this Youniversal with both. They are friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and have always taken the time to explain what my trucks needed. They will not attempt to sell you anything you don't need. I used to take my trucks to a Jiffy Lube for oil changes and standard maintenance, but they left everyone of the caps under my hood off after an oil change. I woke up with a flat tire this morning and after roadside assistance put some air in it I took it to Youniversal Auto Care to get my tire patched. They had me in and out in no time and their service crew was TOP NOTCH!! Their staff is knowledgeable about cars and they know how to take care of their customers. I highly recommend you take your car in for a tune up here as well because they use the best products in the market for your car such as Mobil One. PLEASE give this place a try soon and they WILL take care of you! Also, there's a good BBQ joint down the street from Youniversal called Live Oak that's pretty spectacular! Just a suggestion if your Tune Up might take an hour or so and if you're a carnivore. Youniversal staff will point you in the right direction when it comes to your car! read more

I have been taking my 1997 Honda accord here for at least 5 years. I really appreciate that the staff never tries to upsell or pressure me to get work done unless needed. I trust that they always will keep me safe from potential car problems and at the same time not overcharge me. What more could you ask for! First let me say that the staff was very friendly. HOWEVER- I came in for an inspection, thinking I should pass with no problem. This is the nicest car I have owned in 12 years and I have never failed an inspection before. But I failed- E brake didn't hold at certain RMP (which I had never heard of before this) and light bulbs over the license plate were dead. Ok not a big deal.. WRONG. The e brake adjustment ended up costing me 200$, mind you I watched a guy do it on youtube in 2 minutes with no hassle. Not being a car person myself I suppose this is the price I must pay. Light bulbs on license plate- Bought 5$ bulbs and some grease at auto zone, tried to replace them myself, but the bulb wouldn't lock in place. So i figured I would just have them stick them in while I was there ( 2 minute fix). Now this next part isn't their fault, but they return and tell me that its an electrical issue $$$$$$$. REALLY?!?! a 30$ inspection has now turned in to a 500$ fix. I could be wrong in saying I am being over charged/have unnecessary fixes being suggested, but from 15 years of car inspections I have never encountered this much trouble for a 10 minute inspection. I realize they are doing their job, but at some point I wonder if I probably would have passed at another inspection station. I won't be coming back next year, that's for sure. read more

I spent over $2000 to get my transmission fixed at this place, and when I got my car back, there were these popping noises coming from the front axle. I went back 5 minutes later to tell them that it DID NOT sound like that before, to which they replied "you probably took it to another shop and they didn't properly install something...do you want one of the mechanics to look at it?" Ummm...youniversal had been the only place I had been for the last 4 times. Two of the previous times, I might add, were to fix the check engine light and the fuel mileage guage that cost me nearly $1000 and the problem is still not fixed due to "a number of options why it doesn't still work." Perhaps I got a lemon and just have the worst luck with cars, but It is very frustrating to get your car back with something else wrong with it that wasn't like that before. I would not recommend going here because I feel like I got ripped off. Perhaps I should have not came back the first time they didn't fix a problem. read more

Found these guys on yelp, figured they would be a decent place i could take my car, boy was i wrong. Called up on wednesday to see if they were busy, the lady at the deak said they were free and would be able to get out before the end of the day, drove by (2 minute drive) and they had a car on the rack, annoyed me but that was alright, i then made an appointment for 8 the next morning. So i bring it in, drop it off before they opened, came back at around 11, they hadnt touched it, asked if they could have me dobe by closing, they said no. Not only did the lady lie but it seems like there is no communication between the mechanics and the receptionst, but if this is how they conduct business then ill take my money to somebody else. read more

*Previous Review* I've been taking my car to Youniversal every two weeks because it needs A LOT of work done and I don't have a lot of money. After picking my car up I noticed my driver's side window is not only off the track but its sticking out over the rim of the door frame and won't budge. There's a big handprint on the window from where the guy literally grabbed it and physically pulled it up until it got stuck. I'm not mad that the window went off the track (it has done it once before) but it's the fact that this guy lowered it electronically, noticed it went off the track and wouldn't go up, GRABBED it and jammed it up until it stuck. Now there's a gap in between the window and the door and it's raining outside and rain is coming in the car and I'm really, really frustrated. :( *New Review* I took my car back to Youniversal and they repaired my window free of charge. In addition, the woman in the front sat down with me and we worked out a payment plan so that I can go ahead and get all the work I need done out of the way! AWESOME. Now I'm MUCH less stressed out. Quick, friendly, and professional service. I've only done oil changes here and it is very convenient and fast. Firestone always has a 3 hour wait, and Jiffy Lube does not always do a good job. My only complaint is that it's a bit over-priced, the other place I like to take my car to is much cheaper but I always have to schedule an appt with 2 weeks notice. Youniversal is awesome when you're in a hurry and the people working here and very polite and friendly. read more

I needed an inspection for my car and these guys were close by so I stopped in. I was super impressed by there service. The guy that helped me out was extremely courteous and helpful with what I needed and what I would need to do next to get my registration renewed. He provided an address with the closet dmv and told me exactly what Documents I would need when I go there. I was literally in and out the door in 10 minuets. Oh Yelp. You never steer me wrong. I needed to get my annual inspection for my car and put it off to the last day of the month. I had called my normal mechanic but sadly he didn't do them and neither did Sears (in my defense I wanted an excuse to go to Barton Creek Mall shopping). I drive by Youniversal on my way home from work everyday (I avoid 35- too much traffic) and saw the little symbol that states they do inspections. I was hesitant to go there because I LOATHE spelling mistakes/stupid puns. Needless to say, after reading the reviews on Yelp I decided to give it a shot. I walked in and was greeted by this girl who was so nice (I forgot my new insurance card and she suggested calling them and having it faxed to them- all without being annoyed and a smile on her face). The waiting area was nice. I don't know what was playing on the tv but it kept playing clips from different shows. In the time I was there I saw clips from Frosty the Snowman, Big Bang Theory, Rachel Ray, Price is Right along with a few car care tips. They also had free wi-fi (the guy in the waiting area with me had his laptop with him) and a Keurig with an assortment of coffees. A little while later I hear my name called and go to get my keys and pay (no American Express but everything else is good). It's totally a dollar cheaper than Jiffy Lube PLUS when I get out to my car I find out they had aired up my tires for me (I had planned on going and doing it immediately after). These guys are very honest. I brought them a tough one I managed to sheer off a bolt on a cast iron part on my 65 buick. Then I broke off a screw extractor. Well the part broke when they tried to drill it out (not surprisingly I probably should have replaced it to begin with). I brought in one I found on Ebay (very rare part) and they had it machined (which they covered) and put back together. Needless to say they spent a lot more time and money on this then they quoted me but they stuck to the quote and they did the job right. Sometimes things don't go right but these guys did the right thing and I will be using them and recommending them to my friends. They do a good job of communicating and give you a printed quote so you know exactly what you are getting into is huge. I had a bad experience with a mechanic recently so it's great to find a place I can trust. read more

I called and spoke to Diana (DEE-Anna) about replacing the clutch on my '97 Celica. She gave me a price range. I took the car in on a Friday morning. She figured out an esimate using OEM parts that was pretty much in the middle of the range and several hundred less that the dealer quoted. Diana dropped me off at my office downtown and promised the car for Saturday, but called late Friday afternoon that it would be ready that evening. I also had a Yahoo coupon for 10% off. So it was a great deal and great service. I will be going back. read more

I should have gone through the reviews before I decided to come here. I went in for a over heating problem. Charged 600 for the first repair. Still had the same problem. Was charged 125 because "the part they used in the first repair was faulty". Still had the same problem. Turned out that the repair triggered? a bigger problem. (The faulty part turned out to have been busted because of this problem) they said it would cost 1300 to repair. They didn't even offer me a refund for the 125 even though it was their mistake. I think I deserve at least a refund for half of the money I spent there. I wasted at least 10 hours and more than 700 bucks for nothing. The guy at the counter seemed really nice but I would not recommend this place to a friend. read more

It is rare you come across a shop like this one. The desk help is not only attentive and courteous but also quite cheerful. Ive brought my vehicle here on two occasions and both times I've felt very in the loop about all that was going on. Everything was explained to me so that I could understand and I felt that these guys really wanted to help me out. They weren't just trying to make a buck or sell me unnecessary merchandise. I also did some calling around for prices and did a little review research. My search for an affordable trustworthy shop lead me here and I'm a very satisfied customer to say the least. The lobby is not only clean but family friendly with their movie selections. Enjoy some delish coffee from their keurig machine. I love that thing, its so much cleaner than a traditional pot and to top it off they have Swiss Rolls in the vending machine! Absolutely awful. Told me it would be 3-4 hours of work, turned out to be 7.5 hours. Pricing is super stringent, no room to discount even when they go over their time estimate by a wide margin. Simple as AC work and they said that the Lee are still some issues that they can't figure out. Would never come back to this shop again.
