Really enjoyed my lunch here with my mom when I was recently in town visiting. They have a great vibe and atmosphere -- sort of a restaurant bougie area and a more laid back bar area. Ended up getting the salad and half grilled cheese. My sandwich was perfectly toasted and tasty. The salad was pretty solid too - nice fresh greens, decent dressing. Our server was charming and he was pretty attentive throughout - just a bit slow at the tail end with the check (and of course, the kiddos were losing it by then) so we ended up rushing out. We came in for brunch and although there was a wait (which was expected), we were seated at a more reasonable time than our first experience of waiting almost 90 minutes for a party of two. Popular spot for brunch! Got here at 11 am on a Sunday morning with a party of 7 and waited an hour! Interior of the restaurant is beautiful and very unique. Service was lovely and the brunch menu was awesome--simple options for the picky eater, but several dishes for the ones who like to eat outside the box as well. I had the breakfast sandwich on wheat with added tomato and it was awesome. It was only a half sandwich to my surprise, so I probably could have eaten a little more, but delicious nonetheless. Came here for brunch on a Saturday and was very pleased with my meal! I got the Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon. The egg was perfectly poached, and I was very happy with all the flavors. As we were early for our reservations, we started at the bar - bar manager (Jason?) took care of us and we had a couple of wonderful cocktails, following his recommendations on both bourbon and Irish whiskey. Went on to our table for dinner and.... WOW! Everything was spectacular - BBQ Chicken Chili, Charcuterie, Duck Breast, Salmon Risotto and a bottle of the special wine du jour. 622 North is a reliable Blacksburg takeout option for me! I've been here many times over the years - for brunch a couple times, lunch, once for a night of drinks and charcuterie, and many times for takeout. Their grilled cheese/melts are a classic for me for takeout, the bruschetta melt, fried green tomato melt, and and avocado melt are all very good. I typically get it with the size of mac and cheese or fries - both of which are decent but not stellar. Their fried green tomato app is delicious. They had a shrimp and grits for brunch at some point which I really did not love, but I don't believe that's on the menu anymore. The charcuterie/cheese boards that I've tried were also decent but not stellar. Happy hour deals are great, and the entrees I've tried (usually pasta/risotto) were also very good. Mother in law bought us a gift card, so we tried this place. Food was good enough, but everything else kind of fell through. We had a service dog, so we couldn't sit in the main area, and had to sit bar side instead, which was fine. But after sitting around for almost ten minutes, we eventually had to go over to the bar itself to order, even though there was at least one server walking around. Service after that was just fine. The real kicker was when I paid with the gift card, they couldn't do tip on the gift card. So I then had to pay for a soda (cheapest thing on their menu), just to be able to tip. Try the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer but skip the charcuterie board--it's nothing special and not worth the calories. The meatloaf was a big hit with our table as was the gnocchi. There are big servings so you get your money's worth. Service is average but I expect that is what you get in a college town. Parties bigger than 6 won't fit comfortably on the bar side of the restaurant and the servers certainly don't seem excited to see you. For my entree, I went all out and got the filet mignon. I was impressed with how tasty it was! It melted in my mouth... For dessert, I don't remember what it was called but it had chocolate. I think it's the only dessert item that had chocolate. Nevertheless, it was a nice way to end the dinner! Overall, I would definitely suggest anyone reading this to check out 622 North. I've been here several times for brunch and dinner, and I've tried their Pancake Club and Shrimp and Grits ($11). The Pancake Club is a good choice when you're really hungry and really need to stuff yourself -- very generous portion. The Shrimp and Grits here is pretty good. I finished most of it but didn't feel too heavy afterward. I actually like the grits here better than Gillie's which is a little drier. The wait wasn't too long for a table for 7 people on Sunday around 12:30pm which makes it a good place to brunch after church! I would not come every week though since the menu doesn't have variety. The entrees were next, and those were just okay. Dining partner had the sirloin, ordered medium, and I had the ribeye, ordered medium rare. Both steaks were mostly overdone with excessive char. The ribeye in particular wasn't a great cut - kinda thin and tough to slice through the fatty bits (Tip: Invest in sharper steak knives, restaurants). And it was served with the panzanella salad on top, which was a little weird to me. Wasn't expecting it, and didn't particularly enjoy it. I read some good reviews of this place and was kind of hoping for better. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a complete disaster, but it was nothing exceptional.
