Came here with my son and wife for a recent graduation dinner. Totally packed as expected, but were seated at our reservation time. The restaurant is in a strip mall area near VT campus, with an outdoor/parking lot patio and two wings of seating on either side of the entrance. The graduation menu was a limited, but good selection of fixed price entrees, apps, salads and desserts. They also had cocktails and a nice selection of wine. The restaurant also doubles as a wine shop. A couple of us had beef cannelloni and one had a sausage and pasta dish, along with a calamari starter and Caesar salads. Calamari was hot fresh and very tender, with a good dipping sauce. Salads were crisp and tangy, with the addition of delicious bread. The baked Cannelloni was superb with a ton of flavor and served piping hot. Tasted like some real love went into it; same with the pasta/sausage dish. Large portions and prices were reasonable were quite reasonable. Finished with some light and airy chocolate mousse. Overall, outstanding service and food, especially when considering the limited options for finer dining in Blacksburg. Only drawback IMO is the quality of the food and service is miles above the ambiance and decor. Second time coming here in the past three years. First time for dinner, crazy busy and service was awful. Food decent, servers were as nice as can be, but the actual execution of getting our food was horrific. Second time was today, for their Sunday brunch. They opened at 10. We called ahead to see if took reservations, they did, we made them for 5 people, 10am. We were the first people here. When we walked in, it should have been a clue, when one of the workers asked, "do we open at 10?" We also overheard them say that a large party was coming so we sat down and placed our order in hopes of beating the rush. It's 10:55 as I write this. There are at least 9 tables filled with patrons. The party of 10 that came in behind us received bread. We sit here with nothing. We asked for a status of our food, "I just asked and it will be 5 minutes". That was 10 minutes ago. The table next to us has received two charcuterie boards, they arrived 20 minutes after us. The two top table has received their food and we have nothing. This is ridiculous. They continue to sit people and no food is being brough Update: 4 of our 5 orders were brought out at 11:10. No apology, no explanation, no nothing. My husband's and my waffle were so hard, we couldn't cut into them. The scrambled eggs were tasty, as was the bacon. The other dishes were decent but not temperature hot. After we finished, the waitress brought our check. When I asked to speak to a manager, she looked surprised. A few moments later the employee that we overheard asking what time they opened came to our table and asked if we had a problem. When I asked if he was the manager he said hesitated a little, smiled, then laughed and said, "no". He then got flustered and said the manager was in the back dealing with food and didn't think he was available. I said we'd wait. A few moments later the manager came out. He was apologetic. Understood our concerns and said would work on communication with the kitchen. The food quality here is overshadowed by the lack of empathy by the staff. Our waitress never once apologized for the wait. Never once explained why it was taking so long. Our expectations were not met for the second time. Will not go back. Inexperienced staff and their lack of knowledge on how to deal with customers and their concerns is the reason. All I can say about this place is WOW WOW WOW! I had an amazing visit here! My friends and I were in town and decided to visit Zeppolli's for lunch time. We ordered the charcuterie board, Caesar salad, and a seafood pasta to share. The charcuterie board was huge and came with such variety. The quality of the cured meats and cheeses were superb. I thought the Caesar salad would come in a small portion but it was huge! Great bang for your buck at $5.00! As for the seafood pasta.. omg! It was so flavorful and decadent. Came for a birthday celebration with some friends on a weekday evening without a reservation, and had no issue finding seating. There were surprisingly many people for the time of the week IMO. Vibes are certainly interesting. There are wine bottles all over the restaurant that I was scared to knock over the entire time while I was eating (they're pretty out of the way, so you'll probably be fine). As for the food itself, the shrimp pasta I ordered was tasty, although the portion size was just average. With regards to pricing, Zeppolli's is definitely on the more expensive side, even by my NoVa standards. I've been going to Zeppolli's since I moved here in 2004. It's just been going downhill in the last several years. The dining room needs to be updated with a new coat of paint. The menu needs refreshing. Usually desserts are great but tonight we went just for desert and I swear the cheesecake was bought across the street at Kroger. Horrible! And so unlike my past experiences with desert as they are usually very good. C'mon Zeppolis - we don't have much to work with in this town. There is so much room to do better! read more

3.5 stars. My husband and I had an early dinner at Zeppoli's on a recent weekend trip to Blacksburg. Overall, we enjoyed the experience, but it could have been a little better with just a few tweaks. Their homemade olive bread to start is delicious. Even though we arrived early, the bread was still fresh, warm, and soft. We tried their burrata appetizer, which was served with roasted cherry tomatoes and garlic. The burrata didn't seem like it was homemade, as the texture was a bit firmer than we've had elsewhere. The roasted tomatoes were nice, but the garlic was too firm. For our entrees, I had their Gnocchi Pollo Pomodoro, and asked that they replace the chicken with shrimp, which they gladly did for a small upcharge. The shrimp were large, plentiful, and perfectly cooked. And the garlic cream sauce was absolutely delicious. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the gnocchi. While they gave me a huge portion, the gnocchi were served deep-fried, and were too firm and tough. My husband had their Manicotti Bolognese. He really enjoyed this dish. The sauce was flavorful, and the portion was huge. The atmosphere was ok, but it wasn't fine dining. They initially were playing Frank Sinatra-type music and then switched to pop music, which was less enjoyable. Service was fine, and the food came out pretty quickly. We did have to flag down our server for our check, however. Would we return? I'm not sure. If the gnocchi hadn't been fried, my dish would have been a slam dunk. Visited this past weekend for the first time as an alumni and it did not disappoint. I wish I took more advantage of this spot being so close back before I graduated as it's so delicious. The charcuterie was excellent, I loved the salami and pepperoni. None had that processed taste you get when getting these meats at the grocery store. The side Caesar was huge for $4.75. We did also order the prosciutto camberetti (not pictured) and this was so delicious. It came with an ample amount of shrimp and the mushrooms were so tender. I've been thinking of this dish since I ate it. Overall, everything is cheap (compared to an Italian place up in northern VA where I usually dine) and service was great. Our favorites: Fried Mozzarella (fantastic) Garlic Bites Gnocchi Pollo Pomodoro (but we substituted shrimp for the usual chicken) We did not like the past primavera. noodles were super dry. no flavor. noodles with just butter or olive oil would have been better. I don't know what the issue was. But the salmon that we ordered to go with it was excellent. We made reservations online. The bottle of wine that was good was Peju. Just went here after the VT homecoming game. We had a reservation & you had to put down a $5/deposit/per person for the reservation & if you didn't cancel within 24 hrs you'd be charged. Given this information we thought it'd be super busy but it wasn't. yet you'd think it was with due to the poor service. The complementary bread & garlic bread bites was great, but unfortunately nothing else was. Only one person who got the spaghetti & meatballs finished their meal. & everyone else didn't finish it & left the rest. I got the seasonal gorgonzola cheese pasta with Turkey meatballs & I was thoroughly dissatisfied. The meatballs were terrible, I've never had anything that tasted like them & hope I never do again. Nothing bad but nothing amazing about Zeppolis either. I've been going here since 2015 and it's good but not the best Italian either. Their red sauce is on the sweeter side which is just not my personal preference. We came for graduation weekend and service was good and quick. Their sangria is sweet as anything and they put a ton of fruit. Wish they had a less sweet option because it was a lot. Their homemade pasta is good, best part of the place minus the amazing olive bread. Chicken parm is a good portion but decent. Everyone liked the lasagna as well. A pretty solid Italian place in Blacksburg. My family and I went tonight and it was VT Homecoming, so it was super packed. When we arrived, the hostess told us it would be a thirty minute wait and added us to the waitlist. We didn't receive a message after waiting over 40 minutes, so I went inside to ask for an update and a table ended up being available. I'm assuming this just happened because they were busy. Our server was fantastic-- she was very familiar with the restaurant and got our orders early because the kitchen staff was very busy. The interior of the restaurant is nice and cozy, but the sound can get a little overwhelming when there's a lot of people. The food was really good and fair for the price. We ordered the Crab Cannelloni, Sherried Salmon and Mushroom Soup, Lasagna, and Shrimp and Chicken Rose with fusilli. The Crab Cannelloni was amazing, and probably my family and I's favorite. It's part of their fall menu, but I hope it becomes a permanent part of the menu one day! The soup was pretty good. The lasagna was too salty, but still solid. The Shrimp and Chicken Rose was great! I have a lighter palate and loved the tomato sauce, plus they were not stingy at all with the meat! You can tell that Zeppoli's uses great ingredients. My parents aren't the fondest of western cuisine, but they really enjoyed their time here and plan on coming again! The house of chocolate milk. She presented me with a fall flavored milk based alcoholic beverage which shook me to my very core. As I sipped the beverage, a song by Ed Sheeran came on. I was quickly swept away into the world of a beautifully directed Rom com starting only me and the man in front of me 2 booths down. He may deny it, but I think it's love. Regardless, the food she brought me was delicious, and the service was impeccable. We celebrated my son's graduation from VT at Zeppolli's and we made reservations well in advance, so we were seated right away. Our server came over and introduced herself (I think she said "AP"?) and she was extremely nice and good at her job. There was a set menu due to the high volume of people, but that didn't stop the staff from doing a fantastic job. As I said, we were immediately seated, our drink orders taken, and fresh, delicious bread brought to the table. There were four of us and three ordered chicken parmagiana, and all three said it was terrific. My father in law, who claimed not to be very hungry, ate every bite of his. I had the chicken alfredo, which I only ordered because I knew I'd end up eating some of my wifes chicken parm, but I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Most places overdo it with the butter in their alfredo sauce, but not Zeppolli's, theirs is absolutely perfect. The best I alfredo sauce I have ever had and I didn't leave the restaurant with my upper lip smelling like butter (if you've had alfredo at other restaurants, you know what I'm talking about). Finally, we had cannoli's and chocolate mousse for dessert. I'm serious when I tell you I almost ordered another mousse, because it was outstanding. Now I have to talk my daughter into transferring to VT so we can go back to Zeppolli's! We were visiting from Oklahoma for a friends 30th birthday. We had made reservations at another restaurant and they ended up calling us and saying they had closed due to Covid. I found this place and the food was looked great so we decided to give it a try. Our waitress was an absolute GEM, So sweet and attentive and very friendly. The food was incredible and the 1/2 price wine night was a nice surprise. I would recommend this place a thousand times over. Also- someone in our party forgot his credit card and they were amazing about it and held it at the front so we could run back and pick it up before they closed. If you want to spend an exorbitant amount of money without knowing or finding out why it cost so much then look no further. My partner and i went here for valentine's day and were unpleasantly surprised by their wobbly outdoor table seating. This was shortly followed by flavorless bread and unseasoned dipping oil. Then, a halfway decent soup came out which was tolerable yet unimpressive considering the price tag on the meal. It tasted like canned soup which is fine if i'm eating at home but not worth nearly what we paid for it. Next came the horrible salad with the most horrendous lettuce i have ever had the displeasure of tasting. The best part of the salad was the banana pepper with which the staff had no part in making. Finally, the entrees came out and the pork and mashed potatoes were surprisingly flavorful. Although the entrees made the meal somewhat okay as a whole one irredeemable fact was that none of the food was hot. The soup, pork, mashed potatoes, and cooked asparagus were all room temperature by the time they were served. I made a reservation for Valentine's day for me and my girlfriend. First look - we got set at a table with a very nice waitress, name cards, little notes with questions which was nice. That was the only nice part. The table was unbalanced and shaky. Incredibly unromantic. The entire time we struggled to eat our food with this shaky table that nearly dropped our waters if we moved too suddenly. We ordered the soup appetizer which wasn't horrendous but it was lukewarm and nothing special. Then came the measly salads. Girlfriend got the balsamic chicken and I received the gnocchi salad. Small plate, bitter soggy lettuce, sad little bites of chicken, sauce was lackluster. It was like eating wet paper. The pork tenderloin entree we had was actually pretty okay (ignoring the fact that it was basically cold like it was left out) but this entire "meal" for $120ish (check came out $150 no extra drinks or dessert) was actually ridiculous. Even the couple next to us was confused about the food. Her meal was 99% pasta 1% sauce. Like pasta with a tinge of red. We made an online reservation. We walked about 20 minutes to get there. We were seated promptly. The space is nice, and there is plenty of room and a nice ambiance. We were advised that roughly 50% of the menu was unavailable because they had no chicken, salmon, or bolognese sauce. Those limitations made ordering rather difficult. What we did get was not exceptional. We ordered a bottle of champagne that came warm. We were told they did not have cappuccino, but they did have espresso. The cannolies were very good.
