My husband and I visited Bloom for a date night and had a great time! We decided to be adventurous and try their menu that night that featured "A Taste Around Asia" (menu attached). The food tasted absolutely amazing, but unfortunately, we did find a piece of hair in our Roti and had to ask for it to be exchanged. Our waiter was super kind about it, and we also received an apology from someone in management as well. Overall, the food was great and we definitely would return to try other items on the menu. For this visit, we sat inside, but the restaurant also has seating outside in the back which offers a great variety of places to enjoy your meal!

Bloom is not your tipical kind of restaurant. Yet people gravitate to it all the time. Maybe in search of a haven to go to, alone or with close family and friends to enjoy an evening of gourmet food and an amazing dining experience. This restaurant is not big in size but in quality of food and extraordinary customer service. It has a reputation of always being full and because of this there is a need to make reservations early to successfully be able to have dinner there. And that is precisely what I did and was pleasantly surprised with what I found. I arrived at the restaurant just in time of the reservation I had made for last Wednesday evening at 5:00 pm. When I arrived I found a relatively small building with a small restaurant front with a few red bricks, a glass door entrance and two windows one on each side of the door. High above on the right side one can see a non-ostentatious sign with the name "bloom" in lowercase white letters surrounded by a green neon light that captures your attention, especially the darker it gets outside as the sun retires for the day in the horizon. Inside I found a clean organized environment with exposed ceiling painted white; a green counter in front of the bar in the back and of the open kitchen on the right side. The few tables and booths are light colored wood. An there is also a counter facing the windows with some comfortable high chairs. As I arrived an elegantly dressed host gave me a warm welcome and showed me to my table. Starting with her and all the other employees I immediately noticed an unprecedented attention to detail, teamwork, hospitable attitude, and joy of life and work. My server Ginny greeted me with a big smile and warm welcome. She has a wonderful personality and did an excellent job in explaining to me the kind of restaurant this was, the menu, and answered my questions about individual menu items. This restaurant and wine bar is specially tailored to start with a drink or glass of wine, and then enjoy a few tapas from the menu, small in size but large in presentation and flavor. This is the epitome of gourmet fine dining cuisine. The gran finale being an amazing dessert. For a drink I ordered from the Not With Alcohol Menu the Cinna-Mon. It was a creative drink with a mixture of pineapple, lemon, lime, and orange, as well as a ritual NA rum. For the tapas dishes I ordered the Happy Rangoonies, the Shrimp "Caesar," and the larger size of the Beef Skewer. I enjoyed every single bit of them all, savoring each dish and the moment. For dessert I ordered the "Chocolate." It was simply extraordinary. You can read about what it contained from my photograph of the menu and admire it's presentation from my photographs included with this review. It was the perfect "Gran Finale" of an amazing dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to all food and drink enthusiasts out there. You will be happy you followed my advice, and will never forget this amazingly memorable culinary dining experience!

Outstanding dining experience! Came on a Fri night just before 6PM and the place was already pretty full. We were able to get seated (without reservation) in the "speakeasy" area....aka a separate dining room next to the main dining area. They're playing albums (yes, you heard right) for background music which was unique and created an enjoyable environment and allowed for great conversation with my bride :) They had decent beer selection (Union Jack IPA :). We ordered the Horiatiki Salad ($13), Pide Flatbread ($13) and full entree of Flounder ($34). All of our choices were simply fantastic and exceeded our expectations! The flatbread was a little on salty side which some may not enjoy :) Service from Ginny was really prompt and super pleasant! If we lived in town this would be a frequent "go to" spot for us.

This is a small venue but cozy and charming. We sat in the main dining room which was nicely decorated for Christmas. The host took our jackets when we arrived which was nice to not have to lug them around. The wine list was fair and varied with several lower price point options from well known viticultural appellations from all over the world. Our party ordered the swordfish, a small charcuterie board, the focaccia, an autumn salad and the vegan veggie and rice bowls. All were small which was expected and fairly priced with the exception of the vegan bowls which were $23 for a simple small bowl of veggies and a couple sticks of rice. For not having any meat and by the look of it I thought that price point was high but the other dishes were fairly priced and very tasty. The salad was okay, the greens were a bit limp/wet and I regretted not getting something else instead even though the portion of the salad was larger than all the other dishes we ordered. The service and the potatoes were excellent and the ambiance was inviting.

All the positive reviews were dead accurate. This place is legit. The waitress, Jenny, is a shining star. The beet salad, potatoes, pork loin, sea bass, and carrot cake were absolutely wonderful.

Food 8.5 + ambiance 5 + value 6 + service 7 = overall 7.3 / 10 (good) I would eat at Bloom again in a heartbeat. The food was just that good. The food. The food. Did I mention the food? Everything you want in food. Attention to flavor combinations. To texture combinations like chew and crunch and smush and smooth. Even size and shape combinations, like heaping, delicate spirals; languid leaves; spirited, sprinkly seeds. FRESH and CREATIVE ingredients. These are not the same thirty ingredients you get prepared roughly similarly everywhere. And color and presentation--Bloom definitely ascribes to "We eat with our eyes." The lettuces in the "Lettuces & Beetz" were, bizarrely, and wonderfully--luscious? I can't believe I'm describing a lettuce as luscious. The "Potatoes Aioli" had the most delicate crisp crusts with mush nuggets inside. The "Beef Skewer" came on a motley bed of perfectly grilled little vegetables of variegated flavors. The "Bocadillo" (a Spanish sandwich, new word for me) did not wow like every other dish, but it was more filling, and, understand, it was in some stellar company. We ended with the "Chocolate." This is a large dessert. You can share this. There were at least three different main elements - a soaked sponge cake, super creamy hollow Easter bunny fragments (OK, probably not actually Easter bunny), and I don't know what they did with that whipped cream, or even if it *was* whipped cream - all strewn with crunch crumbs of, what, mocha Oreo LOL?, again I don't know, and topped with straws of candied lemon. My favorite parts of the ambiance were the food preppers behind the counter, which is front-and-center in the dining space, and the aprons and garb of all the staff, "casually"-carefully coordinated in minimalist shapes and muted colors. The space itself is a bit cold for me, physically and emotionally, and also sound-wise. A bit of a cacophonous din. I would have LIKED to hear the details the server was sharing as she put dishes on our table. The dining room seemed to get darker earlier than it should in the evening, too. Our eyes had to adjust to the sunlight when we stepped out the door leaving. And of course you can't see the beautiful food as well as you'd like when it's too dark. We noticed large patches of paint drooping off the ceiling over the bar area - cover your drinks! Dinner for two, including four small plates, one dessert, and no drinks, came to $88, tax and 20% tip included.

The place is quiet for such a small venue. The service was excellent. My drink was never empty and the staff were more than happy to answer questions about the menu and the meals. As far as the food goes, my words fail to convey the delicious and delightful taste and textures that each course presented. I wish I had, had the presence of mind to take more photos of the food but I was caught up in the moment and only snapped shots of the deserts. Been in Roanoke 5 yr now and wish I had made the trek to eat here way sooner. Will definitely return and highly recommend you make it a point to try it when you can.

This is the best food I've had in a LONG time. It might be one of the five best restaurants I've ever eaten at. The food is artful, fresh, and so flavorful. Everything is like nothing you've ever had before, and it feels like culinary exploration. I got such a sense of place from the dishes, and it was all gorgeous. As a vegan, I was so impressed by their approach to making the vegetables the stars of the plates. I wish all food was like this. It was flawless.

Boasting high end but still serving PBR was comical. Wine list was sad.

Really wanted to have a better experience but... I won't share too much about my specific visit since it would be telling of who I am and I'll unfortunately have to visit again since others in the group like the location. We had reservations but at 1 hour in we were made aware we would need to leave within the hour for the next reservation. Makes it difficult to enjoy a long meal with multiple purchases from numerous folks while feeling rushed. The wine list is a joke. I'm a snob, but one wine in particular was so bad I sent it back. Still paid for it Pricing as a whole, on a very limited menu, is remarkably high for the space and portion. In the future I'll eat in advance and sip the one wine I enjoyed.

    Bocadillo! And side salad.

Founded in 2005 by Olivia and Rocky Byrd, this family-owned and operated fine-dining restaurant was established to bring a high-end yet relaxed seafood and wine dining experience to this area. It offers a seasonal menu and an extensive wine list of over 270 selections. After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Rockfish Food & Wine located in the heart of Grandin Village, one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example of one of them. After making a 5 o'clock reservation on the Toast platform from the restaurant's website, I did some errands and then proceeded to drive to the restaurant located at 1402 Grandin Road. (This is considered the Main Street of this neighborhood) The restaurant's building is located next to a small 7-Eleven, and doesn't have parking, but I found plenty of on-street parking spaces good for an hour or in some cases two, and free after 5 o'clock. I picked one of them and parked my pearl white Lexus there. When I entered the restaurant, a young, elegant lady greeted and welcomed me behind the Host's station. Soon after she took me to the requested booth, I found out her name was Kayla and she would be my server. While I was reviewing the menu, she brought me a carafe of cold water with a glass, and a small dish with slices of a baguette and butter. She then took my order. To drink, besides the water, I ordered a Strawberry Fields Mocktail. It had just the right taste and was brought to my table by the bartender herself. To dine I started off with a Crispy Oysters appetizer which was delicious. Followed by a Dinner Mixed Green Salad, which was one of the most delicious salads I've ever had at a restaurant. It had many ingredients and tasted amazingly delicious. For my main entrée I had their Ribeye Filet Au Poivre median rare. It came served with roasted mushrooms, green beans, and cheesy mashed potatoes, and was cooked medium-rare just as I ordered it. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality food. My server provided exceptional customer service, filling my glass with water, and pointing me out the restaurant's owner who was an elegantly dressed, distinguish looking lady with lots of charm and a great personality, who had moved here with her husband and co-owner from California's central coast with a vision of creating a fine-dining restaurant which they felt the local area needed. I also found out through my server that every Thursday the restaurant had live Jazz music to a full house audience, and I would need to make reservations early. Seated at the table next to mine were a distinguished looking couple which I established conversation with and found out that the lady was Dr. Laura Treanor, the fifth president of Virginia Western Community College, who began her term on July 1, 2025. She had succeeded Dr. Robert "Bobby" Sandel, who retired after over two decades of service, and is leading the college with a focus on institutional effectiveness, instructional quality, and student success. For dessert I had their Vanilla Cheesecake with mixed berry sauce, which had missing the fresh berries described on the menu. I had just had such an extraordinary dining experience that I didn't even mention it. Before leaving and after paying the bill with my Harvard Alumni World Mastercard, I had the opportunity of meeting the founder and co-owner of the restaurant, Olivia, and thanking her and her husband for such a wonderful dining experience I had today and always whenever I dine there.

Atmosphere is both high-end and casual at the same time, and the drink drinks she makes aren't lite on the pours. I absolutely plan to go back! They host live music quite often and it's a nice place to go. Listen to some music knock back a couple cocktails and have a great meal. Oh! And the charcuterie board was amazing!

This very popular upscale steakhouse and seafood restaurant is well known for its scenic mountain views, and a place to go for special occasions. I remember the very first time I visited this restaurant to enjoy the view, it won me over with its exquisite food cooked to perfection. So much so that the manager invited the executive chef to come to my table so that I could meet him personally and complement him for his extraordinary cuisine. It was so good that for three weeks straight I dined there and every time I was more and more impressed than the other. I invite you to read my first review and view my photographs accompanying that review, right after you finish this one to get the sence of awe I felt from the experience and culinary masterpieces. I have celebrated my birthday there on one occasion, and have dined there to celebrate special occasions, but to me, I can make any day of the year special just by dining there. This Wednesday I made a reservation for 5:00pm and drove in my Lexus up the hill to the restaurant. You know, "OTH" stands for On the Hill. When I arrived, the host gave me a warm welcome and took me to my table, with a magnificent window view of the mountain and the city below. During this time of the year, I would be able to watch the sunset as I was dining. Soon after I sat down, my friendly server, Rhiannon, came by to greet me and take my order. To drink I ordered the Winter Fizz Mocktail. For appetizer, I ordered from the Raw Bar, the Classic Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail. And for my main entrée, I ordered the 8 oz Filet Mignon cooked medium rare & Lobster Tail. The steaks here are so soft and tender along with the Lobster tails, which beside being the freshest, they are also the largest around. As I waited, they brought me a basket with delicious freshly made small breads with soft whipped butter. To me, one can tell the quality of a restaurant by the bread & butter they serve. The Winter Fizz Mocktail was amazing. It tasted fruity and refreshing. When the Jumbo Shrimps arrived, they were so fresh and plumpy, and truly Jumbo. And with the cocktail sauce, they tasted delightful. The Lobster was cooked just right, then the meat was brought out of the shell for easy handling. I could taste the freshness of the Lobster meat dipped in the melted butter. The Filet was soft and tender, cooked as ordered, medium rare, to perfection. And even the baked potato with butter on top was soft and easy to take out of the peal. My waitress came by at the right times to check on me. What I did miss was the general manager, visiting my table. I found out that this evening he wasn't there, but they had another shift manager which they brought in from Billy's Restaurant. It was not the same not having him come up to my table to chat with me. This goes to tell you the importance to details, even of the management of a restaurant and the relationship they have with their customers. For dessert I had their Keylime Pie made in-house. The chef outdid himself with a wonderful presentation of the dessert. You have to view the photograph to believe it. It was so good, you can almost taste it with your eyes. Overall, once again I had an extraordinary dining experience here. This time, even the Sun graced me with providing me with a view of a beautiful sunset.

First impression getting to the restaurant was 'Where's the Entrance?' We drove almost all the way…read morearound the building and finally figured out that the entrance was by the patio. When you walk in there's a kid in tennis shoes escorting us to our table and the table isn't even set for our reservation and we stand there and wait for 5 minutes. The fake candle, salt, and pepper are laying in the chair and we're left in the middle of the dining room for everyone to look at us like we're the crazy ones. Felt like going to a chain restaurant. The food was okay, but not for the price tag. I got the Shrimp Cocktail. The ice was melting to the point that there was a pool of water as I received the dish. The cocktail sauce itself was so thick you had to use your fork (you had two identical forks not a salad and dinner fork). My wife got the Crab dip. The dip was mostly cheese, if nobody told you that it was crab dip you wouldn't know. The server, Chris, was so overwhelmed having two tables that he had to be requested to return to our table just to refill drinks which were empty throughout the meal. For our entree's my wife got the seafood pasta which was so overpriced it was laughable. 4 small/medium shrimp, two clams, and two scallops. It's sad you can count the pieces. Chris, attempting some showmanship made an elaborate to-do about bringing the steak knife out with sound effects and all. (It was a cheap aluminum, one piece, steak knife.) I got the filet, lobster tail, and added scallops. The filet came out the right temp but there was no seasoning of the meat at all, the lobster tail was good, and the scallops were okay. I added the truffle butter to the steak which looked like a sad dollop and added no flavor to the meat at all. I guess to make amends for his poor service, Chris offered dessert as it was our anniversary and we got the cheesecake. It was some out of the box cheesecake with a smearing of fruit something, half a strawberry, two blueberries, and two dollops of, I assume, fresh whipped cream. Never in my life, even if you pay me to go back, will I ever visit again. Thankfully my company more than made up for the poor service, mediocre food, and steep bill.
