The comedy night was pretty irritating; the bouncer proceeded to YELL at everyone in the bar for an hour straight, delaying the show. He then announced raffle results for a local fundraiser. Now, I understand the philanthropic reason for the raffle, but it could have been handled MUCH more smoothly and shouldn't have all been announced at once, before the already-late show. The first two acts were not particularly special but I wasn't expecting Demetri Martin... The last act was decent but the comedian was a bit too smarmy for my taste. Raunchy isn't ALWAYS funny, you know? Now, onto the BEST BRUNCH EVER. Cream-cheese-and-raspberry stuffed brioche french toast with key lime pie ice cream. Visualize it. Yeah it was THAT good. The ice cream was mild but interesting, with pie crust bits inside, and a nice bright green color (in the good way...). The french toast itself was hot, so the cream-cheese and raspberry goodness was melty and wonderful. The orange juice was thumbs down, expensive and small, but not a big deal. We came here for brunch on a Sunday morning. I ordered the tomatillo Bloody Mary and it was good. If you like salsa you will like this bloody. The other two people in my party got classic bloodys and they said they were not the best they have ever had, but good. I had the BLT with an egg and it was great! It was exactly what I needed and the bread they used was excellent. It did not fall apart on me and was neat to eat. My boyfriend said the chicken and waffles were different. They had a small amount of gravy as well as mustard and peppers. He said the mustard and peppers kind of threw him off a little bit. We all split the southwest scramble and it was super yummy. This place is incredibly cute, and if you're looking for a sat-sun brunch place, this is it! Other brunch places are too packed and crowded, but 622 is well put together, and don't have to worry about yelling across the table to carry on a conversation. If you're a fan of mimosas, definitely get the pitcher for your group -- you'd be saving money that way! It's made it sparkling wine and not champagne, so it's a bit stronger! Went for lunch/Brunch on Sunday. Food was good. However our experience was less than acceptable. Not sure if it was a one off.... I ordered an omlet, I have not been eating bread or potatoes and asked for a green option to substitute... I was offered a salad. GREAT! Well, the bill came, My husbands coffee that was never delivered, was on the bill $2.50, a $4.50 charge for the salad that was substituted was on the bill. I asked.. The waiter said oh so sorry my fault... To my surprise when he returned with the corrected bill, a $2.50 Charge was still on the bill for the salad, and a new $1.50 charge for toast and waiter said it was the best he could do. ( Toast was included with the meal) We opted not to fight, paid the bill I deducted it from his tip (should have left zero) Sharing as this is not expected service and would have loved to return, but now not sure we ever will..... read more

I have eaten here several times, and always enjoyed it, though, the entrees to me are preferable to the sandwiches. I got the risotto three times in a row because it was so good I just couldn't get anything else. I finally tried the Mahi on my last visit, and the fish and veggies were both good! I also tasted some of my dining partner's salmon with Brussels sprouts and risotto cakes, which were both delicious, although the salmon was more done than the advertised medium rare. The cocktails and wine were good as well; I particularly liked the summer special of the strawberry lemonade, although my partner's Cold Fashioned tasted more of spice bitters than whisky. Unfortunately the appetizer wasn't availible for lunch but our informative server suggested the Fried green tomatoe grilled cheese. It was simply delicious!!! Let me preface this review with this: the only reason I am giving it three stars is due to the prompt/great service we received. Getting to this place and parking are easy, they have a relatively large lot that appears to be shared with other businesses, but didn't seem packed when we showed up at 6:30 on a Friday night. We each started with a glass of wine and ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer...our first mistake. Yes, these were listed on the menu as 'loaded' fried green tomatoes, we took the chance. Which in hindsight, should have reconsidered when the waiter asked "You're sure?". The soggy non adherent breading, the pimento (just melted cheddar jack?) cheese, the....what I can assume was pimento jelly (?) and lastly the bacon (yea....lot going on here) made for a soggy/greasy, 'not worth your time' appetizer. Make it simple, once simplicity is perfected, move on from there. For entrees my husband ordered the special, which I believe was sea bass. He ate it, but was more impressed with the accompanying vegetables/sides than the prepared sea bass. I ordered the atlantic salmon with oat risotto and pickled strawberries. When the dish arrived, I probably should have just sent it back. The salmon was listed on the menu as 'almond crusted', however, there was not an almond insight.....zero, zip, nil. The salmon was cooked a medium rare (something the waiter stressed) which was 'meh' at best. The oat risotto was laughable and reminded me of overcooked oatmeal from a microwave (gummy/gluey). The pickled strawberries were delicious, but couldn't save this dish. This resulted in me eating a little over half of the dish and getting rid of the rest. We did order dessert, a freezer stored slice of chocolate pie, because we were still hungry. Honestly, this was the best part of the meal. MY POINT: Do not go here with expectations of high quality dishes and get burned for more than $90, as we did. Maybe they have great burgers, salads, or maybe their brunch is out of this world, I can't speak on that, what I can say is what we ordered was sub-par at best and not worth a pricey date night. read more

Well the food is definitely different, its more maybe yuppy than home cooking. Very strange combinations like chicken and waffles soaked in honey mustard. I was really saddened by my birthday experience at this place. It came highly recommended for "townies" in the area. First the host tells us we need to wait almost an hour for a table, then called us back in 5 minutes. When we walked through, the place was empty... so we were very confused about that... Then we had no waiter for 20 minutes. We received **so little service** from 3 different people that it became laughable with jokes like "do they know we are here?" None of the staff looked presentable--which, based on the prices, is off-putting. We were excited to get our food over an hour later, but the tri-tip steak came out extremely overcooked. The chef who plated it tried to hide the most overcooked parts of it towards the bottom of the dish (wrong move to pull on a couple of intense foodies) and it looked like trash. The crap veg they paired with it looked like it came from a can and may have cost the restaurant less than $1. They took off the steak and the experience still cost us over $100... we left mad, hungry, unsatisfied... and walked through an almost empty building during prime dinner hours, no acknowledgement or appreciation. We found a hair in our eggs, and after we told the waitress she was visibly uncomfortable (?) and replaced the food, but the restaurant did not seem to care or even try to compensate us for having someone's HAIR in our mouths. I have been to 622 North several times and have had some good experiences and some bad experiences. It is a nice restaurant that has both a bar (bar seating, hightops, and a few tables) and a separate dining room (the separate dining room is actually broken up into multiple rooms - all of which are intended for sit-down brunch, lunch, and/or dinner). My experience in the dining room has always been great. The service is exceptional and the food is also good for the price. I love going to the bar of 622 North for their weekly to bi-weekly "Steal the Pint" events during various times of the year. For these events, they feature a specific brewery and have several of their brews on tap that you can buy (if you get one of the specialty brews, you also get a complementary pint glass with that brewery's logo - very cool!). My only negative comment is that I have been given grief here for not starting a tab that I feel like was very unwarranted and somewhat offensive. I tried a pint of one of the brews and decided later on in the night that I would also try another to which the bar manager felt it was necessary to sarcastically remark "Oh, so I guess you're just going to pay one by one tonight," roll his eyes, and slam the glass on the counter when serving me. While the servers are typically friendly and helpful, the speed of service is eye-wateringly slow even when the restaurant is empty. The food was ok, fried green tomato was the best thing we had, but the service was horrible. We had "Zach" as our server and while walking to our table the hostess mentioned that he was the best server. Either she was wrong or their other servers are even worse! After being seated we waited almost 15 minutes for Zach to show up. We saw him talking to one table the entire time and then left to go get something for them and came back and kept talking to them. We finally flagged down someone and asked if we could get a server and Zach came up right at that time and informed us he was our server and you could tell he was none to pleased we asked for someone else. Bottom line - he was not engaged with us at all and the rest of the night went about the same. I highly recommend going to another restaurant rather than dining at 622 North. Really nice brunch spot in downtown Blacksburg. I'm not a VTech student so I never lived in the area and was just in town visiting so it was nice that this location wasn't totally overrun by rowdy students on a Saturday morning. Service was a little sarcastic but overall very quick and friendly. Our 10 person table was handled with no issue at all, drinks didn't sit empty and plates were brought quickly. Food was solid. I was a tiny bit underwhelmed with my "Big Breakfast" but the quality was very good. Everyone else's meals looked fantastic. Especially the Pancake Club and Chicken/Waffle combo. Mimosas were about as expected, but with the price being so low I have no real complaints there. I didn't have one but apparently the various Bloody Mary options were quite tasty. I was a bit annoyed that we did have to ask for some ingredients to be added to my wife's Bloody as they forgot some of the accents, but it was quickly remedied. I highly recommend the Salmon Mousse Deviled Eggs as an appetizer and the Bloody Mary Caprese as a brunch cocktail. This place is outstanding, and is most likely the best place to eat in Blacksburg. Anyways, so I was attending a business conference at VT for the week (with my attractive, flirty female coworker of course - I try to take her everywhere). The first thing I notice is the mix-and-match 4 course meal for $30! You get to pick swordfish, snapper, pork loin, ribeye, or whatever the menu has that day, and match it with any soup you want, some scallops or a salad, and have your choice of desert. You get a LOT of great food (the taste and aesthetics are both excellent) for what I consider to be a reasonable price for a 4-course meal. There's also your typical burgers and whatnot served here as well, which were also good. From the dining area you can also see into the beautiful mountain scenery and watch the sunset. My coworker and I shared a bottle of Gehrwurtstresomething Riesling (the wine and beer menu is massive, with many local flavors), which got us pretty buzzed, and all the better because our company is paying for the entire trip! However, the best part was our waitress, Harmony. She was just "WOW." Some servers just give your service, but Harmony was outstanding. This girl must really enjoy her job because I have never seen a waitress so friendly, funny and personable. We actually came back a second night that week, and she sat down at our table with us and talked about what bars she goes to and how much she likes dubstep and how her Robert Miles CDs were stolen (I love Robert Miles btw). Hell, she flirted with me more than my flirty coworker did. I was about half a glass shy from asking her if she wanted to come back to my hotel room when her shift was over. Bottom line: come here, eat, be merry, and chat with Harmony. I've been really excited to visit 622 North since I heard they were opening - Blacksburg needs a good place that isn't a bar or sandwich shop. A recent trip to 622 North tells me that, at least for now, we're still waiting. Arriving at 7pm, we were seated outside on the patio - a nice place to sit overlooking Main Street, for sure. The restaurant wasn't full at the time, and we placed orders. After an hour, the restaurant was much fuller ... but still no meals. We were enjoying ourselves and so the delay wasn't terribly inconvenient, but we certainly wondered what was taken so long. The server didn't have anything to offer - they don't serve table bread, and he couldn't provide any explanation. After TWO hours, the meals finally came, and were underwhelming at best. Everyone's asked why we stayed so long - some within our party knew others who had helped start the restaurant, and we wanted to support that. I've heard that they weren't prepared for the "grand opening" that weekend, that it was slated to be a week later, but nevertheless there are some kinks to be worked out, and a menu to be tweaked. We were in the Blacksburg area this past weekend for a 16 mile hike (yes, you read that right, SIXTEEN MILES, yikes!) and on Sunday, post Saturday-massive-hike-day we were in the mood for some tasty brunch! Our friend who lives in town recommended 622 North and am I glad he did! This place was so cute! The inside looks like an adorable house, with different rooms, stairs, etc. It's very well decorated and spaced out. We got there at 10:20 or so and waited about 30 minutes for a table, not too bad considering it's prime brunch time and we didn't have a reservation. We were sat in the sort of second level, right next to a bookcase, which was perfect for my bookworm hubs who immediately picked up a book and told me how much he loved it! Great start to our brunch! The waiter was friendly and got our order in no time. We were starving (again, 16 excruciating miles the day before) so we ordered quite a bit (also, the prices, as compared to DC were amazing). I had the smoken salmon eggs benedict, as well as some pancakes (lol, don't judge, kthanks) and my hubs had biscuits and gravy and also some pancakes! The food was delish! The eggs benie were a small portion, but yay I had pancakes too! The pancakes were perfect. Definitely a lovely spot for brunch, I recommend it if you find yourself in town! read more

My experience was nothing like the two previous ones. Wait staff was really good. We didn't wait long for our food, and the suggestions for food were spot on. I loved the potato appetizer (don't remember the name of it now, but more than one wait staff said we made the right choice). I was more than pleased with the main dish I got, soft-shell crab, cheesy polenta and asparagus. Yum! We got dessert too, cheese cake with a strawberry sauce. Pretty standard, but lighter than most that I've had in the past. We also got ice cream with it (and an extra scope from our server). The wine is good too! I'd first like to note that I have not experienced the wine lounge and restaurant 'half' of 622 North, but the glimpses I saw of those rooms makes me believe that most of the effort, money, and attention are going towards those aspects of the business. The area looks classy, clean, and the staff seems more friendly. That being said, the adjacent bar seems more of an ugly afterthought. The bright lights, linoleum floor, and awkward layout immediately reminded me of a public school classroom rather than a neigbourhood watering hole. The place simply has no identity. Not a pub, not a classy cocktail joint, and not even a sports bar. It's as if someone with money said "I want to have a bar, make it happen," and then absolutely no vision went into the project. The bar is expensive, but not well designed. It doesn't fit the space and makes the area feel like a long curved hallway. The area with two dartboards is the size of a closet, making it impossible to play a real game. We had to move furniture and put our backs to a wall just to get near seven feet away. But the absolute worst part of my review comes from the attitude of the staff. The moment we walked in, the door dog was in our face: "IDs." I hand him my VA Driver's License, the new one, with all the security features. He reads it, he rubs it, he holds it up to the light. "Something wrong?" He ignores me. "I have other ones." I begin to pull out all my other IDs. "That's great." And he just walks away to the bar where a bunch of staff is sitting down. He shows them the ID, they look at it in all the weird ways he did, then they start laughing and telling jokes. It takes a while for him to realise we're still waiting at the door. I look over at a nearby bartender and ask "what's going on?" He tells me to "chill out" Finally the door dog comes back, and then does THE SAME THING with my friend's ID. We should have just left then, but we stayed for a game of lousy darts and an even worse overpriced drink served from an even ruder bartender. The door dog did the same thing to three other guys, a manager type came and we heard him telling the story of me getting told to "chill out." Manager tells him to keep up the good work. I won't be going back, I won't recommend the place to friends or visitors, If the wine lounge had something to offer, the bar ruined it for me, I miss Bogen's. Blacksburg is in desperate need of a new downtown identity that offers something different, but 622 North offers something worse than what we're already stuck with. read more

My sister talked me into checking out 622's brunch while visiting her at school one weekend. I reluctantly said yes thinking this is a small college town, how good can food be? Well, it was definitely much better than what I had expected. The host greeted us as soon as we entered the restaurant, and quickly seated us in a booth. Thank god we arrived before the brunch rush hit as suggested by my sister's friends. I really enjoyed the homey interior decors which was very welcoming. My server was extremely polite and attentive, refiling my coffee whenever it became empty. The food was pretty good, though most of the menu items were pretty normal stuff you can get at any other restaurants. Perhaps expanding their menu selection with more unique dishes may attract more customers to the restaurant? Going to try out this place again for dinner on my next visit to Blacksburg, and hope the experience is as good as the last. read more

We had a very nice meal at 622 while visiting Virginia Tech. It was not busy, but school was not in session. The service was excellent and food tasty. Started with a Virginia beer off their vast beer menu and wine from a very good wine list. Three cheese board had very good cheeses coupled with little toasts and two spreads, apple butter and a spicy jam thing. Entrees didn't disappoint either. Tri-tips in an interesting sauce came with 4 interesting fried little potato and great seasonal vegetables. Gnocchi was also very good. Bread pudding for dessert was excellent. Atmosphere is comfortable. Lots of different rooms for seating. Some parts are a bit dated though and they could use new carpet in the entrance. All together though, glad we ate there! read more

My husband and I dined here for dinner for our anniversary. Our previous visits had been spot on, however last night the food was sub-par to say the least. As another reviewer mentioned, the ambiance, menu, décor, and service are all perfect at 622. It's a wonderful place to go for cocktails or wine. However, they must have a new chef since the food was definitely not up to expectations. I had the special- Thai Crab Pasta. It came out looking like something I might see on a commercial for Friskies cat food. It was mushy and the only flavor was chili sauce. My husband had the duck which was not crispy on the outside and the portion looked like an appetizer. His side didn't even make up for the lack of meat...a few whisps of veggies. I know this is picky, but the other complaint I have with this place is that they don't serve bread. You have to pay for it as an appetizer. It's listed on the menu as a "loaf:, but it comes out as 4 pieces and you are charged $3 for plain white bread. Come on! So, my advice is not to go here for food. For this price, I expected a much better dinner. I would say that service was fantastic except that when my soup course came out it was not only scalded, it smelled like burning. The waiter served it without blinking an eye: any place that takes pride in its food should never have let that food touch the table. It was very disappointing. 622 North is one of the nicer upscale restaurants in Blacksburg (if not the only one because it's such a small town). I've had plenty of great meals here. I love how the menu changes weekly based on what is fresh and in season. The dishes are also a nice change of pace from your regular steak and potatoes. I'd call their style classic, creative, and eclectic all in one! I'd recommend to get whatever their special of the week is, which can be found on the large chalkboard menu on the wall next to the piano (or you can just ask your server). Some of my past favorites have been their soft-shell crab appetizer and their bacon-wrapped duck. I've also had the crab cake which is delicious, as well as their spinach artichoke dip. I can't remember all the appetizers I've tried but I don't remember not liking one. When it comes to desserts, I loved when they had the panna cotta with fresh berries and their lemon cheesecake was perfect. Love the ambiance as well! The only bad thing about this place is that the service can be a little slow at times. And for first timers, make sure you go around the side of the building to enter, don't go through the first door because that is the bar side of the restaurant, which is completely different!
