He's very picky about chicken and he loves the salad here at Carriage House. This is a really special spot in Jasper. They serve breakfast as well as lunch so be sure to give them a try. I've never been around such an immature and uncleanly set of staff than what I just experienced at…read morethis Waffle House location. A young woman named Kendall in particular was exceedingly hateful, loudly cussing and rudely talking about customers right in front of them. My grandparents and I wanted to come in for some breakfast, and when every place we tried sitting looked filthy, we were a little irritated, but in no way did we portray this or begin acting rude. Once we sat at the counter, there were menus lining it, and there were each covered in food remnants and syrup. So naturally, we got them out of our way and set them up on their napkins dispensers, as most people do at almost every other Waffle House location. A few minutes later, they fell over and our waitress scoffed "that's why they stay on the bar." As IF they didn't need to be cleaned anyways, and it was that big of an inconvenience to her. This made the entire time we spent there super awkward. I have worked in food service, I've seen rude and hangry people in my work places before. My grandparents and I were the furthest thing from that, yet we were treated close to scum because of our irritations surrounding THEIR inability to do their job and maintain a clean restaurant. After paying and even being generous enough to still tip, we were very sarcastically told to have a good day, and as the door began closing behind us, the childish Kendall worker thought it was necessary to announce "it's people like that!" People like what? People who like to eat without touching other people's mess that you were too lazy to clean up? It was absolutely unnecessary and it's a sad reminder than even young women can be hateful and nasty with no reason to be. Even if their paycheck depends on it! Absurdity. If you guys end up reading this review, you should seriously try to do better. You made a simple breakfast with my grandparents extremely uncomfortable for no reason at all, congratulations.

We had the lobster risotto and the pistachio-crusted halibut, and both were excellent. The service, though, really took away from the experience. We had noted that it was our anniversary when making the reservation, so we were a little surprised that it was never acknowledged during the evening. We weren't expecting anything complimentary or special, but even a simple "Happy Anniversary" would have been a nice touch. Our server unfortunately had a noticeable attitude throughout the meal. He was short with us and at times gave the impression that he was bothered that we were there. I don't want to mention him by name because maybe he was simply having a bad evening, but the attitude was incredibly difficult to ignore and it affected the experience. To be fair, everyone else we interacted with was very kind and pleasant, so this seemed isolated to our experience with our server. For a restaurant with such a beautiful property and food at this level, we expected the service to match. We weren't expecting anything extravagant, but for an anniversary dinner, we expected to feel welcomed and taken care of. Unfortunately, we didn't get that. That being said, I would still recommend visiting. The property is absolutely stunning and the food was excellent, so I don't want our experience with one server to take away from what is otherwise a beautiful restaurant. I just felt it was worth mentioning because the service unfortunately made what should have been a really special anniversary dinner feel underwhelming.
