Cute little mountain bar! Came her to celebrate my 25th birthday and got some amazing pictures. When I first arrived, we were told that we had to have a reservation to sit at the bar but they ended up letting us come in. We ordered a few beers and rounds of champagne and had a great server! The bar manager checked on us multiple times and even held out table as we went outside to take some sunset pictures by the lake! We called to reserve a table for a party of six, we were told we didn't need a reservation. We got there later and were told that we were "lucky" that they fit us in. We were then seated, given menus, and then forgotten. We sat there for 45 mins waiting to be served before we left. Horrible experience. Do not recommend. read more

This restaurant is inside a gated community. I would like to review it but we couldn't get there. The guard station would not let us enter the community to get to the restaurant. We were visiting the area and searched restaurants near us. I wish I would have known about the access before I had driven 20 minutes to get there since other nearby options that are publicly accessible are very limited. read more

What a peaceful little haven Black Bear Pub is. A serene setting overlooking a lake that shines against the backdrop of the mountains behind it. This pub is in the private community of Big Canoe, which I was fortunate to be a guest at today. I had the half pound black bear pub burger and my wife had the salmon BLT. We cut the sandwiches in half and shared. The burger was cooked to perfection, juicy and full of flavor. My wife enjoyed the salmon BLT, but I found it simply average (however my half had very little fish on it). We had the sides of onion rings and sidewinder fries and they were both good. We came up to Big Canoe to visit some friends. It was our first time going to the Black Bear Pub with them. We were a group of eight and they seated us promptly. Our server came over quickly and got our drink orders. We had the meatballs and fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and both were tasty. I had the hanger steak and it was delicious. I especially loved the brussels sprouts that came with it. My husband had the salmon and even though he asked for it to be cooked medium, it was more well done. Still had great flavor but was definitely overcooked. We had a great evening here and I look forward to coming back again. read more

Go go! Pub like atmosphere with a beer mug club and the opportunity to taste many beers. Bar is busy and servers are available at the near the bar tables. The bar menu has nice selection that can satisfy different tastes. The bar may close for weddings or events so check ahead. The Pub is a smaller area that is adjacent to a casual outdoor dining area and also a inside dining area which is more formal or business casual. Its easy to meet at the pub then direct your group to your select dining experience. Bring a light sweater even in the summer, nights can be cool. Bands play sometimes there is a cover. read more

Mar 2019 - Gomer Pyle said "Fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me." I was invited back to the Pub for another lunch; I will be more direct the next time someone invites me and ask if we can go somewhere else. Service was similar to Jan 2019 (see below). I ordered the Deli Deluxe (hot) with Onion Rings. Contrary to the description there was less than 1/3 lb. of meat, one side of the bread was completely soaked (bottom) while the other was hard as a rock (top). Not only were the onion rings cold, they were frozen rather than those I had last time (see below). My wife's Chicken Tenders arrived cold and soggy with the crust falling off...she order Sweet Potato Fries but was served French Fries. FWIW - the Runner realized the mistake and replaced the Cold French Fries with Cold Sweet Potato Fries. I hate to think this is the best the Clubhouse in Big Canoe can do, but it obviously is...I'm extremely embarrassed. DELI DELUXE 15.95 1/2 lb. of sliced pastrami and corned beef piled high on locally baked rye bread spread with our housemade made Russian dressing and served with a deli pickle spear Jan 2019 - Ate in the Restaurant on a Saturday for an early lunch...was seated at a table next to a large party with a young child when there were myriad options that were much quieter. Our waitress appeared, told us everything about every item on the menu, took our order and didn't return until she brought the check. Our orders were delivered piecemeal by Runners (some were hot, others were not), we had to track someone down to refill drinks, and the overall attitude was "we really don't care if you're here or not.." I had the Burger and Rings...cold burger but Rings were good Wife had the Chicken Salad Sandwich - nothing to write home about (VERY small portion for $15) Others in the party had a cup of Cream of Mushroom Soup and Salads - they didn't look appetizing at all. We went there for a early dinner Wednesday, Pinky was our waitress, she was very sweet , courteous and got all of our orders out correctly and she didn't write them down. The food came out pretty quick , tasted great and we enjoyed eating outside looking at the lake . We went for a 1:30 lunch. The ambiance is very "country club-ish", but everyone was dressed casually. We sat in the pub area and the service was excellent! We had the calamari, spicy teriyaki wings and Cesar salad. SO good!!! read more

Girls trip - they split us - (Covid regulations) but our porch seating was spectacular with a beautiful view of the lake. My table had the appetizer with naan bread, pimiento cheese, and hummus. I came here as a guest and they took our order 40 minutes ago and the kids are starving! They don't even serve bread. This place is a clubhouse for the renters and owners of the resort community, so they are indifferent because they have no worries about competition. It was not busy here on a Tuesday night. I give two stars for the nice view and the nice grounds but I am not impressed by the service or the food, which is expensive and disappointing. The food car an hour later. Standard bar fare, done well. Server was friendly and efficient. Host was efficient but unfriendly and unwelcoming - makes all the difference to be greeted with friendly eye contact by someone whom seems happy and genuinely glad you are there. Music was all country, which is fairly specific. Maybe they could have better playlist mix of country with other genres like classic rock or pop or acoustic or something. Finally I would say that for being a somewhat upscale resort style area, the uniforms (bright blue polyester shirts) the staff had to wear were reminiscent of old school white polyester nursing/housekeeping uniforms. Unflattering and not hospitality current. Visit restaurants in Atlanta, 30A, Charleston, Nashville- servers typically wear cotton, often t shirts and jeans in pub type settings. My wife and I just left the Black Bear pub at 4:00 pm. We went in just for drinks. While sitting there, a cockroach walked across the bar, which I killed. I informed the bartender and she nonchalantly used a napkin to removed the bug and then asked if we would like another drink, we said check please! This is the same place that doesn't allow dogs to set at the outside tables. But it's ok for a cockroach walk across bar be killed by the customer. And the bartender doesn't even know how sanitize the bar top. We won't be back. read more

DO NOT COME HERE. ORDER IN TO YOUR HOUSE OR LEAVE BIG CANOE FOR FOOD. I'm not kidding. I'm still sitting at the table waiting for my check so thought I'd give y'all my two cents. This is my FIRST Yelp review so you know it's serious. The service was awful. The food was over salted (they ruined a perfectly good hanger steak with all the salt added). We sat at our table for 1.5 hours before getting our first refill on water. The side salad is $8. I have worked in food service before, and I'm the first one to sympathize. However, the restaurant was not slammed. There was no wait. We made reservations before. And we were still there for over 2 hours. I hope this review goes viral because it's 100% accurate. read more

Went to Black Bear Pub on Friday for lunch and asked our waitress how to go about making a reservation for Saturday night as we had a group of 9. She graciously confirmed a time and took down my information to give to the hostess so they can put the reservation in the system. Our group arrives early on Saturday to enjoy drinks on the patio and with a lighter crowd in the restaurant I asked the hostess about the possibility of being seated early. She did not have any record of our reservation but stated they could seat us in about 15 minutes. A few minutes go by and we're enjoying our beers on the patio when we're aggressively approached by Mihaela, the manager. She insists we never made a reservation, asks us to describe our waitress then insinuates we're lying because their waitresses are trained not to take reservations and says they can seat us in an hour. We would've stayed and kept ordering drinks from the bar but did not appreciate how inappropriately Mihaela handled the situation. In short, the training issue is not about whether waitresses take reservations or not it's about leadership not understanding how to treat their patrons. read more

They advertise on the public internet, so we came here on our BMW motorcycles. We are middle aged doctors and administrators, hardly hooligans. We were told that our kind wasn't welcome and we would not be served. Maybe they got in trouble for being racist so you can still feel superior by discriminating against people for mode of transportation. Never consistent. Most BC sites remove the bad posts. The food is not good. We have gone about 10 times in three years and never once walked out ok with what we spent money on. A committee needs to be formed to change direction and get it on track. read more

Ever since management made the switch to an automatic 18% gratuity, the servers essentially "get to you when they're ready" After golf we walked through the place to sit outside, passing three servers along the way. "Sit anywhere" they said. So when we sat on the patio and they kept passing us for 15 mins until one said "we stopped serving outside" it would have been great to know that bit of info. read more

We've eaten here a handful of times recently. The food has been really good. A lot of previous reviews were critical of the food. My understanding is there is a new head chef - keep him! Soups have been delicious and change often. Fried green tomatoes are delightful. Wings - yummy! My husband who hates tomatoes even ate one and enjoyed it. One area of improvement would be turn time for drinks. It seems there is typically only one person on bar. On a busy day / evening the bartender is responsible for the bar, bar seating area and then of course the restaurant drinks. That's a lot of pouring and mixing for one person. We've experienced 20 minute wait times after we order a drink (restaurant side not when at bar). All that being said we love coming to the Pub. Staff has been super friendly and all seem to work really hard. read more
