Shenanigans food is things dreams are made of. The Potato Poppers were fresh and had just a bit of heat... not unbearable on the tongue at all. The Steak & Spuds fell in to my husband's mouth at a rapid pace that the song of Florence & The Machine's Dog Days Are Over rang out like an anthem. Their brown gravy is just. Like. my. Irish. Mother's. Impeccable and rich. My Shepherds Pie was delicious and although the cheese was a little intimidating, perfectly balanced. My Smithwick's Irish Ale was the perfect accompaniment with the food. Our server was in training. We sat outside and he and his trainer quickly approached us to take our drink order and make recommendations. They were attentive and pleasant. We wouldn't have known he was in training! I've come here a few times but to be honest, it's usually been after drinking around town and at local wineries so food quality wasn't a big deal. This time we came after hiking all day and sat outside with our dogs. Ambiance-touristy Irish pub. It's a big place that still tries to be Irish-ish. They fail but it's a worthwhile effort and people seem to like it. One issue with the design-it's a huge place but they have 2-single person bathrooms-one next to the bar and one on the second floor. I don't even understand how you get a building permit with that occupancy and so few bathrooms. My wife and I each got a burger, sub veggie patty. They are getting 2 stars for the fact they don't upcharge for the vegan patty. Everyone upcharges for a veggie burger, so this is an impressive give-a-way to customers. However, I added mushrooms and roasted red peppers, which added $2 each, and gluten free sandwich bread, which was a $5 upcharge. First, those veggies should not be a $2 upcharge each. That's obnoxious. Your menu burgers have toppings and are cheaper than a plain burger with 2 veggies. But, I am not taking stars away for the upcharge. I saw them, I accepted them. My problem is that with those changes, this was a $25 burger at an Irish pub in north GA and it tasted like a $5 burger from an Irish pub in north GA. It was dry, unseasoned, and very bland. You charged me $5 for 2 slices of bread from a loaf that costs $7.99 retail. A red pepper is $0.75 cents, maybe, retail, and for a couple teaspoons you charged me $2. Who knows what mushrooms cost, but the point is, for two toppings and sub 2 slices of sandwich bread, you charged me for a high-end steakhouse burger and served me a terrible backyard grill burger. On top of that, I ordered a whiskey (knob creek) on the rocks. On my check was a $2 rocks charge. So...you charged me $2 for ice? It makes no sense. It's the same amount of liquor. When I asked the server about it, she said because they pour an extra 2 ounces in. Obviously she lied because she had no clue what she was talking about. First, why would adding ice equal and extra 2 ounces? Maybe if I asked for an up martini or something, but I am adding volume, so why would you also add liquor? Second, my whiskey was $13 and a restaurant shot is 1, maybe 1.5 ounces. Do you really mean to tell me you gave me an extra 2 shots, maybe an extra 1.33 shots of a $13 liquor for $2 only because I asked for ice? I'm not an idiot. Came downtown to do a little shopping after spending a day hiking at the Falls and had to stop by shenanigans! It's been around for years, old style charm, kind of a huge place when you walk around the whole area. Great food and beverages, but we just came for a drink and music because they were playing outside and it was breezy and not too hot so decided to stay for a couple of drinks. Although we just had drinks today, they're Reuben is fantastic, their shepherds pie is super good (can't remember if they do lay them yet, but I'm a lamb shepherds pie guy and a beef cottage pie guy) but we are in Georgia. A lot of people don't like lamb lol. Doesn't matter it tastes great. All of their burgers are great and the bangers and mash. I remember also reminded me of Ireland true to form. This place is always packed, great service great food great beer selection great craft drink selection if you're coming downtown Dahlonega stop by for a cocktail or lunch. You won't be disappointed. Great Irish Pub tucked away up in the North Georgia mountains. A friendly vibe with the staff and the patrons as you might suspect. Everyone was happy and having a good time. They have a large menu with everything and anything you might desire from the warm and tasty comfort food to the very traditional Irish dishes such as Irish Stew, Bangers and Mash and Shepherds Pie. The Potato appetizer was amazing. Potato pancakes topped with colby jack, bacon, green onion & mild jalapeño sour cream. I wish I could have ordered it second time. Lol. Their Ruben was very Ruben traditional and amazing. Thinly sliced, tender and tasty with marinated sauerkra & 1000 Island on grilled marble rye. I thought I was back in Dublin. Where should I start? The atmosphere of the place was kinda cool. The whole inside of the place had $1 bills all over the place which was kinda cool but, the down side is that it was very cramped inside and it wasn't that busy so I can only imagine what it's like when it is. Came here and I was so surprised I haven't left a review yet. I have been coming here for years and every time I visit I leave with such a huge smile on my face. Whether you want to sit outdoors or indoors both options are great and the decoration makes you feel comfortable the moment you sit down. I ordered the crack sausage dip which is always fresh and I highly recommend. For my entree I was feeling the signature Sheppard pie and it was so amazing. It was seasoned to perfection and the toast adds the right crunch and texture to make this so succulent. The service wasn't the best however they were so packed I didn't mind our waitress stopping every 10-15 minutes on refills haha. Anyways definitely come try this place out. I visited on a Friday night while they were serving their late menu. They seated me on a outdoor side patio because they didn't have tables inside, but I would have preferred to be inside. The wind was so strong there was a Red Flag warning in effect. While I was sitting there, the wind caught the umbrella of a table next to me and flipped it over, and I was lucky it didn't hit me. I had to position my drink next to a post to ensure the wind didn't take my straw away. And needless to say, it was cold and poorly lit out there. Service was friendly and adequate. Getting a refill and later getting my check was a bit of a wait. Being a college town, I was surrounded by young students that were yelling and cursing and trying to out-do each other, but I guess that's the vibe for this dive. I had the sampler appetizer and the fries were perfectly crisp and wonderfully seasoned and the savory brown gravy for dipping was tasty. The onion rings were decent although there ketchup squeeze bottles weren't fresh and were turning into vinegar. The house made chips were also perfect. My entree of fish & ships were decent portions. But it was overly greasy and where it sat on the fries, all the fries below were mushy with the puddle of grease. It's a shame because the fish and batter would have been good otherwise. ok Shenanigans Irish Pub in Dahlonega?? this was THE highlight of my entire weekend, no competition. we went in for wings and a Guinness (because obviously), and everything was already hitting... but then I did a car bomb too and yeah this place just kept getting better. the vibes are so fun and chaotic in the best way, like instant good mood the second you walk in. the servers and bartender were ON IT fast, friendly, and just made the whole experience even better. we even met another couple who were also traveling, which made it feel like one of those random, perfect nights you didn't plan but will always remember. also major bonus: we stayed super close so we could just walk there and back, which made it even more elite. AND let me tell you... I ordered a burger to go and oh. my. GOD. best burger I've ever had. like I'm still thinking about it. I would genuinely travel back just for that burger, the drinks, and the vibes alone. I'm lowkey sad because I'm on the West Coast and nothing compares to this spot like I haven't found anything that hits the same. this is 100% a must-visit if you're in town. also the inside?? so cool dollar bills all over the walls, super unique, just adds to the whole experience. Shenanigans is located in downtown dahlonega. We only stopped for drinks but they were tasty and welcome on a hot day. It's a longtime staple just off the main square. Always a good crowd inside and out. Large patio and live music usually set up in the parking lot. Service is small town friendly serving typical bar fare. Prices are not too gougy given its proximity to tourist town, but it is on the fringes of UNG so I think they try to cater to both groups which makes sense. read more

We stopped here for dinner as a family- 5 adults, 2 kids. It was really busy so we had a long wait. Unfortunately it was small inside so there really isn't a place to wait and it was freezing outside. We had to sit outside by a little table fire. It was not warm enough to keep us warm so we ended up inside since we were at the top of the list at that point. It was another 20 minutes and we felt in the way. When we were finally sat, the server was prompt. The drink selection was good and tasty. The food was delicious. I got the Ruben which was perfect. The bread was a great- crispy, but still soft. I would have liked a little more dressing, but that was on me. Others got the shepherds pie which was a big helping and very flavorful. It's a great stop, but I would recommend going during a not so busy time if you have a large group or going when there is only 1-3 people. read more

Absolutely Delicious Food!!! Hubby tried the Bangers & Mash and I had the Shepherds Pie we got the dinner portion and it was perfect amount, served hot and presented very nicely as well. Huge drink list as it is a pub. Hubby tried a local IPA recommended by the server. We had a few different staff check in, deliver food and check in with us; as they definitely take pride it caring for the guests. The ceilings were low and the walls covered in dollar bills making it seem dark and small, cozy and inviting as if they're in the kitchen right beside you cooking. We heard the bell rang a few times which basically means a patron was tipping the cooks for their delight in the meal's taste/and/or their satisfaction with how it was cooked. How could this place have such high reviews ?? We had shepards pie x 2, Rueben Sammy, and chix fingers. Guinness and a screwdriver. The screwdriver had spoiled OJ in it - undrinkable. The shep pie had gluey mashed and low quality ground beef. It's edible, but I've had better anywhere else. Asked for hot sauce to add some flavor to the shep pie, nada. The Rueben was decent - comments from guy eating it. The beer is fine and place is cool, but don't come for the food.... It's a fail. read more

Drove up to Dahlonega to see the Christmas lights and visits the stores. Friends had raved about how pretty the lights were and how great their meal was at Shenanigans - so of course we ate there. The service was friendly and attentive without being annoying. We had a couple of specialty cocktails and they were excellent and contained more than a shot of alcohol. My wife accidentally ordered a non alcoholic drink because it sounded good. No problem, they put a shot of Bailey's in it :-). I had Bangers and Mash and the wife had Shepard's Pie. Downtown Dahlonega's nominally 'Irish' Irish Pub, Shenanigans, typically warrants 3.5 - 3.75 stars but did not earn that rating today as our simple orders were apparently too difficult to honor. On arrival, we noticed the sign requiring that we wait to be seated & wait we did at the unattended reception podium. Finally seated after a longish wait & with drinks in hand we ordered a simple appetizer to share & a veggie burger plate with onion rings instead of fries & a dozen buffalo chicken wing flats NOT the drumettes. This diner was thrilled that the Shenanigans menu offered the choice of flats or drumettes for a $1 additional up charge. And even happier because on Sundays an order of wings are 30% off ! We reminded our server several times that we wanted the flats - not the drumettes. What was delivered: a burger with fries not onion rings & a mixed order of wings not the flats as requested. Eventually we flagged down a server to get us those onion rings & eventually they did come. The food has always been good at Shenanigans. And Service was pleasant enough on this late Sunday afternoon but we were surprised that our buffalo wing special blew my wallet up at $18.00 & DID NOT come with any of the typically present celery & carrots & our $14 dollar veggie burger turned into a $20 burger after a few add ons & that a 'well' version of Bailey's on the rocks was up charged by 2 bucks. Shenanigans is frequented by a steady mix of college kids, locals & tourists. We actually did the "Chocolate Crawl" in the square this past time I visited and Shenanigans was listed on our "passport" to visit there and try a treat. My first time having shepherds pie, it was so good! My husband got the fish and chips. It came out VERY QUICK! I got 2 drinks, the pickle martini and the Irish coffee. The pickle martini tasted like straight vodka, but I think the bartender was overwhelmed so I just drank it, my Irish coffee was great! We enjoyed our time here! Being totally nosy we asked many folks if they liked their entrees and everyone had two thumbs up. From burgers to fish and chips, to special seafood dishes looked pretty awesome. Wow...just wow...we live here, both our daughters went to UNG....we have lunch and dinner at Shenanigans probably 1-2 a month for over 20 years. I realize this is the busiest day of the year, but what a CLUSTER! We checked in using Yelp waitlist. We were told by your hostess that Yelp was priority seating and it wouldn't be long. We went to the tent, had a green beer and listened to Roscoe Roe who was very good. After they finished, it had been 45 minutes so we checked with the hostess... Oh, you are second in line for two! Awesome, so we walked around town but every place closes at 6 so nothing was opened. We walked the square, and came back at 6:15, and now we had been waiting an hour for a party of 2. We waited to 6:30pm, as Yelp said we would seat at 6:11-6:30pm. Did I mention it was a balmy 32 degrees out! Frickin' freezing! So we checked in again at 6:35...oh, sorry, you are now 3rd? What, what happened? Some lame excuse, but she would talk to the manager. He came back and said there was a misunderstanding and now we were TENTH!!!' Bye Shenanigans...really? This is how you treat locals??? The ones who kept you going through the pandemic!
