Another fantastic, wonderful and colossal experience here at Foothills Café. Had a delicious family lunch with my daughter and her uncle. Hi, my usual 1/2 pound cheeseburger on ciabatta bread, with coleslaw and French fries. Daughter had their delicious chicken fingers with okra and french fries, and my brother had the 1/3 pound bacon cheeseburger, with coleslaw and fries, all outstanding! What a gem of a restaurant we discovered and it was through a Facebook post. Seeing the business from the street and walking in you can tell it has been around a long time. Simply put, the food is excellent, the service is well above what is normal today and the prices are very reasonable. It appeared a lot of locals rat here and I can see why. Very middling experience overall. The food was just okay- extremely dry mac & cheese, largely flavorless batter for the fish. I asked our waitress if I could substitute the hush puppies on my platter for anything else; toast, biscuit, whatever. She told me that wasn't possible- fair enough. However, the table just behind me ordered the same thing with the same waitress just a few minutes later and was able to swap their hush puppies out for hash browns with no issue. I found that strange. Then when our bill came, prices were several dollars higher than what was listed on the menu. One of our meals had the price rectified. For the other, we were told that it was $3 to upgrade from a plain baked potato to a loaded baked potato- a price not listed on the menu. It seems a little ridiculous to pay an unlisted $3 for some cheese and bacon when the regular potato is free with the meal. The price somehow came out to around $40 for two people, and the food was not great. read more

Really enjoyed the chicken fried steak--tender and flavorful! Gravy was good, and the hash browns and eggs were on target (though I prefer my hash browns less shredded, if that makes sense??). Located a few minutes outside of Dahlonega Square, easy to locate with plenty of parking. My impression is that this family owned business is where the locals dine. We enjoyed breakfast here the other day and will be stopping back here today for breakfast We had an awesome server, extremely welcoming and attentive. Showed that Southern Charm ! Our food arrived hot and fresh and full of flavor ! The Country Fried Steak with Sausage Gravy was absolutely the best ! Along with home fries and a fresh baked biscuit was fire My wife's breakfast was on the money and the bacon done as requested ... She dined here several months ago for lunch which was great she said ! The dining area was clean, tables wiped off and clean, the decor made you feel at home. At the conclusion of our hiking trip centered around Vogel State Park, our eldest hiker requested Pancakes after our check out this fine Saturday morning. I found this well reviewed establishment on Friday afternoon and everyone was onboard. Parking was a bit tight so I opted for an end cap allowing adequate space. We arrived right in the sweet spot (11am on a Saturday) for seating our party of six upon arrival. Coffees ordered upon seating and our orders were taken with delivery of beverages. The waiting area began filling up within 5-10 minutes. Total bill plus tip was $78 for six meals. Portions were excellent and all the short stack pancake fans had no clue how someone could eat more than two. I enjoyed the veggie omelette with home fried potatoes and asked for hot sauce to go with my huge omelette. Everyone else cleared their plates and we departed south headed back to our community. Awesome service with filling meals. That should cover us all til the afternoon. read more

Wonderful southern comfort food with an easy atmosphere. My wife and I had breakfast on a Friday and everything was great. We both had country fried steak, with scrambled eggs. I had sliced tomatoes for my side and my wife had hash browns. The gravy and biscuits were awesome! The service was good but a little slow. The old outdated solid wood booths are very uncomfortable with NO padding at all, so we moved to a table with chairs that were not much better. Very reasonable prices. read more

We are here for the weekend and wanted to try places we wouldn't be able to at home. We drove passed Foothill Grill and it looked so busy. We figured if it's busy, it must be good. Parking is a pain!!! There are several big trucks and it's a tight squeeze. Be patient, spots open up pretty quickly. Everything was delicious. Service was really good and quick. Homey atmosphere. This seems like the local go-to diner. It was packed when we went and every time we drove past over the weekend. Beware, the parking lot can be a disaster if they're full. The food was ok. My wife had the shrimp and grits. She loved them. I had the grilled buffalo chicken sandwich. The chicken was tough and like rubber. It's got the small town diner ambiance. The service was great. We thought the food and the service was terrific. Chris was an excellent waiter and we enjoyed everyone who helped us at Foothill Grill. The Friday special was a fish basket with 2 sides. Having lived for 14 years in New England we felt like we were taking a big risk ordering fish in north Georgia. The chef really came through! It was just as good as if it was the Friday Special at a place along the shoreline in Maine. My wife who usually doesn't like Potato Salad fell in love with the Potato Salad. We were traveling from Cincinnati to Roswell to see family and decided to take the scenic route instead of I-75. We will remember to take this route again! Love this family owned restaurant that has that down Home good grandma's cooking hometown welcome. Sat outside on the patio, cool air overlooking the fall forest.. ordered a waffle with pecans from Georgia two eggs over easy and homemade smoked sausage from the meat market next-door. That sadly is gonna be closing this week because the big grocery stores are coming very sad.. but oh my stars if you've never had a freshly made sausage and then smoked, you are missing out the flavors the freshness just blow your taste buds to another level that you just wanna keep on chewing and and not swallow. The waffle was a flat waffle but the pecans butter and honey on top was delicious in the eggs over easy were cooked to perfection.. ordered sausage and gravy and biscuits. Sausage comes from the family own meat, market next-door tons of sausage pepper the thickness of the sauce sausage gravy was perfect not runny and not too thick over those homemade biscuits. I'm just shaking my head because it was so yummy.. you need to go now before they run out of that smoked sausage. The server was happy welcoming and attentive. Not a great experience. First, we called to confirm their hours, but nobody answered. We assumed they were closed, but since the only other restaurant that served breakfast just stopped serving to transition to lunch, we swang by just in case. They were open! We were happy about that. Once we ordered then received our food, it was just okay. I ordered eggs over easy and there was no runniness at all (see photo). My friend ordered a cinnamon roll that never came. They said they were making a new batch and we asked about 20 mins later when she checked in again and they hadn't. I gave them three stars instead of two because everyone was really nice, and our server said she had to go back and cook for a bit, so I felt bad for her. read more

I hate that I feel compelled to write this review, but after three years of loving the Foothill, our experience yesterday was completely the opposite of the reason why this has been our go to place for a Southern breakfast. The background: We found the Foothill by accident while returning from a wedding in the north Georgia mountains three years ago. We decided to try it and were hooked on the food, service and people. We loved it so much that although we lived 50 miles away, we made a point to return numerous times when we wanted that special breakfast experience. Yesterday we called before driving up to find out their hours and if they served breakfast all day. We were told yes, they served breakfast all day and that they closed at 3:00pm and we needed to order before 2:30pm. No problem as we told them we would get there at 2:10 and actually arrived shortly after 2:00pm. We asked for coffee and the server gave us this strange look and walked away without saying anything. When she returned about five minutes later we asked again about coffee and she said they had stopped making coffee but she put a new pot on. Great, this is the Foothill we have come to know. Unfortunately, from that point on, it seemed to become a different restaurant. My wife always orders the same breakfast including grits, gravy and a biscuit. When we arrived and started to order, we were told that after 2:00 they don't offer those. While it does say that on the menu it was strange that after my wife called to confirm if they served breakfast "all day", told them how much she loved their grits, gravy and biscuits and said we would be there at about 2:10, she wasn't told she couldn't get them after 2:00. Of course her second choice, chicken fried steak with gravy, was available only without gravy. We sort of joked with our server that actually they really don't serve breakfast all day, just certain selections of the breakfast menu. We both ordered another breakfast selection which included hash browns , toast and English muffins instead of biscuits. When our meal arrived there was an overwhelming smell of old grease. Our hash browns were burned on top and barely cooked on the bottom. The toast and muffins were also burned on top and soggy on the other side. They looked, smelled and tasted as if instead of being toasted in an oven, they were "toasted" on the grill. Neither one of us could eat these so we had our eggs and ham/steak which were as good as usual although the "two scrambled eggs" looked more like one egg. By this time we decided there was no use in getting the meal cooked correctly because it was almost 3:00pm. When we received the check, there were a couple of surprises. The first was that there was an extra $1 charge per egg. Okay, I get it with the egg shortage but you would think you would be told that while you were ordering. Also, the amount of scrambled eggs looked more like one egg rather than two advertised. The second surprise was that the price on the menu was only if you paid cash. If you used a credit card, there was a "X" percentage added to cover the fee the CC company charged for processing. Again, you would think this would be something a customer would be told up front not just added to the bill. I left with the feeling that this was a different restaurant. Maybe it had been sold and another business had taken it over or maybe the management and staff had changed. Either way there are plenty of breakfast places much closer to where I live and I won't be making that drive up to the Foothill again. read more

I finally was able to get in and try this place early Sunday morning August 3rd and it exceeded expectations. I sat at the counter and it didn't take me long to figure out that they had a faithful following. The breakfast was excellent and Chloe, Lorne and Carsen all made me feel as if I was a regular :) Can't wait to try lunch there next week. Everything you want in a Southern breakfast and meat and three restaurant. Breakfast choices range from biscuits and gravy, country ham, eggs any way and omelets too, along with pancakes. During our visit to Dahlonega on a Saturday morning, R and I wanted to check out the food at Foothill Grill. By the time we got to this restaurant, it was around 11 am, and there weren't that many cars in the parking lot, so we got a spot right near the front door. The outside of the restaurant has a nice rustic look. R and I both put our facemasks on while we were outside and walked into the restaurant. While we waited for a server to seat us, I noticed that many of the customers were just staring at us, and that, with the exceptions of the employees and R and I, no one else wore a facemask. We asked for a table away from everyone else. This was pretty easy to accommodate for us, since no one else other than us were in the dining section where we sat in. Observations I noted regarding facemasks: 1. Tables are too close to each other for customers to social distance, 2. Just about everyone dining in did not wear facemasks, 3. Everyone walking in who ordered food to-go wore facemasks. The menu prices were inexpensive, and this restaurant serves breakfast all day. I ordered the country fried steak and gravy breakfast platter. This very filling meal came with two large scrambled eggs, grits and a biscuit. I know that I had to have had more than two eggs. It actually looked like 3 or 3 and a half eggs. Everything was good, hot, and cooked well, except the gravy and country fried steak lacked flavor. It helped when I put salt and pepper on the gravy and steak. I was concerned because customers dining in didn't wear facemasks. While we were eating, more and more people came in to eat. I was actually rushing myself to eat so we could get out of there. People were way too close to us for my comfort. Groups of people waiting for tables were grouped together just inside the front door. The servers were ok. It looked like there were only two servers, and they were taking care of all the tables. They came to check in on us twice after we were served our food. As long as we still have to deal with the pandemic, I won't be coming back to this restaurant. read more
