We've been here a few times now! I usually get the brisket and my partner gets the turkey. Both are highly recommended. Service is always friendly and very quick. You order at the front and they bring your meal to the table, but then they clean up the tables after you! For the sides, we've had mac & cheese, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw and I can recommend all of them! When we chose the bread with our side, we were told this was the cornbread that was slightly sweet however it's not it's the salty savory kind. Bigun's Barbeque is located between Ellijay and Jasper. Can't miss their big sign or any of their signs. Quickly pulled up to their parking lot which is big and plenty of space. Lots of outdoor seating and they also have a drive through window. Just follow their entrance signs then the enter here sign but somehow missed the order here sign once inside. Thanks to the cashier for waving at us we then got back on track. Cashier was wonderful super nice and friendly. We ordered a couple of the 4 meat platter ($24) with choices of brisket, pulled pork, bbq ribs, turkey and pork sausage. For the sides mashed potatoes, geen beans, mac and cheese and potato salad. All the sides were really good but the meats not so much. The pulled pork was flavorless, brisket was on the dry side, ribs fell of the bone but were also flavorless and could not taste the smoke flavor. Turkey and pork sausage were the best. You get your choices of sauces . I stuck with original sweet bbq. My biggest disappointment was the corn bread. It was actually more of a corn meal muffin. No corn flavor and it was dry. You get two with your platter. I regret not ordering the Texas toast. Stars of the day was the amazing cashier who took our order. He was the best! Friendly, bubbly, helpful, patient, and super nice. Not the best Bbq when the sides outshine the meats. Might be an off day with the breeze but as you pull up, we didn't get that smoky bbq smell that you're normally accustomed to at a bbq joint. Not a lot of smoke flavor in the meats. Brisket was a little bit on the dryer side. Pulled pork was basic. Ribs were good and fall off the bone tender. Pork sausage was amazing as it was crispy and juicy. The turkey was good. Every single time I come here the BBQ and sides are amazing. It's counter service, but you don't have to bus your own table. Inside, it feels like an expansive roadside joint/dining hall, no frills, but you don't have to worry about cleanliness. Find your own table / booth and leave your number on the table. You go to another area to pick up your drinks. The pork and brisket were tasty and needed very little sauce. Bbq for the win! Biguns was the lunch suggestion of my coworker. She shared it was a consistent stopping spot of her family when they were in Elijay area. The staff at the counter where you place your order were engaging and helpful, the restaurant was clean and quiet- we sat on the outside porch, and the server who brought out our food was spot on with the conversation. Last time I was at the establishment I remember the pork tasting a lot better. This time the pork was just pork. There was no smoky flavor as though it have been sitting over Hickory forever. It was just pulled pork. The original sauce was nice. The green beans were nice. The Black Eyed Peas were so so - like a good can canned black-eyed peas be. Pleasantly surprised at the Delicious food, excellent service and super clean restaurant. We visited at 11:54. We ordered a Little Pork Sandwich (4oz) with no side, it was served with pickles only. That's how we ordered it. We also ordered a Full Rack of Baby Back Ribs (Dry Rubb), and they were perfectly cooked, served with 2 sides. The ribs had no fat, all meat. Normally the food here is really good, however, we went through the drive thru today. I ordered chicken tenders and fries. Online it said 6 tenders for 12.99 instead it ended up being 4 tenders for 14.99. the tenders were very small, overcooked and dry. The fries were old and overcooked. The mac and cheese was good. Lesson learned! I guess the 2nd rate stuff gets given in the drive thru and the good food is served for dine in. read more

We drove up to try their Brunswick stew. The counter service was friendly and so were the servers. Ambiance was roomy comfy booths and all wooden cabin feel(it is N GA). I agree with the internet reviews as the Brunswick stew was worth the time and gas to get here. The pork was tender and not dry. The corn bread and okra topped off a great meal. There was a choice of six sauces ( one gluten free) . My favorite was the " talking rock tangy" and Carolina mustard BBQ sauce"! A few are hot so those were not for me. The menu is varied so vegetarian's can eat here too. Sweet tea was not overly sweet. We were so full that no dessert was necessary.:) read more

The food is good. Their ordering process had to have been designed by someone with extreme OCD issues. If Lewis is taking your order it's even more militant than it already normally is. Here's the process and you better do it in order: 1) Always start with your name. Don't you dare order first without your name. You will be stopped in your tracks to provide your name. Only then are you permitted to repeat what you originally ordered. 2) Don't you even think about ordering your food before you give them your drink order. You will be automatically interrupted and asked to provide your drink order. 3) NOW...you can place your food order but, be prepared to be stopped again immediately if you order a plate. You will be asked if you want the big one or the little one. 4) Before you start to order your two sides or, if you dare to go abstract on them...you will be interrupted. You MUST now provide your bread order. You will be offered roll, Texas toast or cornbread. 5) Now and ONLY NOW can you order your sides. Be prepared to quickly have your two sides chosen but, don't state them too close together as you'll be interrupted AGAIN if you do. You have to say it in their required cadence and pace. 6) Now you are permitted to pay. 7) You're given a number to take to your table. Makes you wonder why you gave your name to even be able to get started to begin with. 8) Then you are directed to the drink counter on the opposite end of the restaurant. Look for your drinks on the counter with a receipt with them. Usually the person isn't there because they made the drinks long before as you were required to start with that as soon as you have given your name. 9) Refills are a thing too and Lewis is not even there to make this more militant. Don't you dare go back to the counter where you picked up your drinks to begin with for your refill. You MUST go over to the side where there is a 5' wall/barrier and hand your drinks over the wall to get your refills. 10) Have a seat and make sure you place the tent number sign at the edge of the table just as it says to on the tent number sign. 11) Then, starts the endless search of the staff walking around aimlessly staring at the edge of tables looking for the matching number tent sign. Be prepared that they sometimes make multiple passes before they see it. 12) NOW you can enjoy some really good food. If you're not already fed up with the drills you have to go through to get to this point. In summary, they really do have a very jacked up process and it's not at all efficient and the line to order moves needlessly far too slow. The good news is once you're seated, it doesn't usually take long to get your food because you've been delayed getting there. They need to take a hard look at the process and also try to be at least as equally friendly as they are militant when you order. read more

I last reviewed Bigun's 8 years ago. It's changed some- the layout is better with a paved parking lot, ample seating inside and out and it's very clean, including the bathrooms. We ordered a full rack of glazed ribs (you can also get them dry) and extra sides to split amongst the 3 of us. The ribs were delicious and plentiful. The meat fell off the bone. There are 6 sauces at the table to try with them. It's a great variety. I personally love the sweet. The collard greens were a bland but they have hot pepper sauce by request. The green beans were more like pieces. They aren't as good as Bojangles or Bill Miller BBQ (in TX). The Mac and Cheese was deliciously creamy with a fun shape and lots of cheese. The cole slaw is good but if you're looking for carrots and a little tang, it's not here. The Texas toast was perfectly toasted, the baked beans were yummy with pieces of pork throughout, the banana pudding was fresh and the best I've had! My favorite BBQ place in North Georgia. Love the pork, but the sausage and the turkey are my favorites. They have the best potato salad IMHO and all the other sides I've had there are fantastic. It's a pretty big place and there is seating outside which is great when the weather is nice out. Every time I've been here I've seen a bunch of familiar faces so it seems like they must take care of their people well because they don't seem to have a lot of staff turnover. I have hunted down just about all the BBQ restaurants in north Georgia, and I must say this is my favorite place. It's worth the drive from Roswell for a slice of pork paradise. Their southern style veggies are the real deal, too. Their order set up is efficient, handling crowds with ease. They are always busy, which is a testament to their popularity with locals and tourists alike. This well constructed, clean log cabin atmosphere is very countrified, as one would expect, considering the fare offered. They also sell BBQ sauce, butt rub, pickles, chow chow and jam, if you want to take a souvenir home. Our first visit to Biguns was in November of 2025. Our family wanted BBQ to eat the first night at our cabin rental near Ellijay. We bought a family chopped pork pack and a rack of ribs. It was all really really good from the sides to the meat. I figured it would be as we stopped in around 3pm on a Friday and the place was jam packed. Fast Forward to May15th 2026 on our next trip up to Ellijay and we called ahead about thirty minutes before our arrival time and ordered the Biguns family pack for pickup with our sides being green beans, baked beans and mac and cheese. It was all ready when we got there and we were in and out quick. I did notice a lot less customer vehicles in the lot. The sides were very good but the chopped pork was a bit lacking. Oh the quality of the meat was good...kind of lean...but lacking in the smoky pit bbq flavor we got back in November. Definitely needed to add bbq sauce (which is good) to make it taste good. I hope it was just an off night (around 2;30 pm), or just a pork butt which wasn't very flavorful. We'll be up there again in Oct 2026 and we'll make the decision whether to go there again or try Pooles BBQ in Ellijay. I hate to give a 4 star review just based on the chopped pork and I can't remember if I reviewed it last November, but if I did it would have been 5 stars because it was really really good. I'll preface that we love BBQ; whether Texas, Carolina, or southern! We frequently smoke butt, shoulder, sausage, brisket, chicken, or other items. We stopped by for lunch on a Wednesday, was a steady busy but line moved quick, and food came reasonably quick. The staff was friendly and kind. None of us were thrilled with our choices, and we all felt the smoked sausage & brisket was the best item on the 4 meat platter; which was brisket, ribs, polled pork & sausage. Brisket was a bit on the dry side, pulled pork was ... lacking flavor and ribs weren't spectacular by any means. I had the country fried steak which appeared to be a frozen patty and less than exciting. And the corn bread muffin was dry and tasteless. Needed at minimum butter to liven it up. On our way up to Blue Ridge saw this place and knew we had to stop on the way back down. And we did! We stopped in and the cashier, i think her name was Tina, she was great! I hope i didn't butcher it. But she helped us navigate through the menu. We got mac, collards, brunswick, ribs, brisket. Only thing i did not care for was the brisket. I asked for it wet and it was super dry! i was really disappointed. I took a few photos but I got ahead of myself when eating it so they are limited. I absolutely love the smoked Turkey. One of my favorite things to get here. I've frequented this place for years. The pork was delicious and the ribs were also. The sides were good also. Redneck lasagna is Mac and cheese with Brunswick stew on top if you didn't know. Very tasty. They have a wide selection of sauces to try. They all are good to me but my favorites are tangy talking rock sauce and the thick & smokey. The thick and Smokey sauce, to me, is basically the essence ribs in a bottle. Tastes good. The hot sauces are good too. I use the "sure nuff hot sauce" on my Turkey sometimes. The service is good. You order at the counter and get a number. They bring your food out to you. They also collect trash for you at the table. Everyone was pretty nice from the register to the trash pick up. The inside is pretty nice. Has a cozy feel. Plenty of room for traditional tables of 4 to large booths that can accommodate larger parties. Outdoor seating available also. Banana pudding is good. Ask for it to be warmed up. Key lime pie is good, chocolate cake is good too. Bbq salad was nice size. Uncle said it was good. Aunt and my mother had a sandwich. Decent amount of pork comes on it. My cousin (age 6) got a grilled cheese and fry. He said it was good. No one complained. We also got some stuff to go for other people. My brother who couldn't come got some smoked Turkey. read more

Fantastic experience on this, our first visit. We ordered outside as we wanted to sit outside on the picnic tables since it was such a beautiful day. I had the pork platter with sides of coleslaw and baked beans (loved these sides!). My wife had a pulled pork sandwich with a side of fries. Everything was fresh and outstanding! They have several homemade barbecue sauces to choose from, and we liked the combo of mixing the house and hot BBQ sauces. This is one of the most pleasant barbecue experiences I have had. The food is above average and service is excellent. No tip jars suggests that Bigun's pays better than many other places to eat. Ordering and paying is done at a counter by the customer who then finds where to sit. Drinks are made, and refilled, pleasantly at a drink station. A buzzer notifies the diner that their food is ready. Holding the buzzer up, for the server to see, gets the food delivered pleasantly to the table. This time we both ordered the 4 oz. pork plate, but with different sides. My wife chose mac and cheese along with green beans while I had fried okra and black eyed peas.
