Upside: Local workers now have a cafe/diner to replace the old Millwright Cafe. The decor is nice and has more seating.
Downsides? I've tried two of their offerings so far and both times, I've been severely unimpressed.
How long does it take to make a panini? It shouldn't take 10-15 minutes. The roast beef and cheddar panini definitely lacked quite a bit. Roast beef was almost non-existant (description says "stuffed with roast beef" - not anywhere near that) and far too much horseradish. Mind you, I like horseradish! But when your eyes are watering and your nose is actively running, it's too much. Horseradish is meant to enhance the flavor of the meat - not bury it.
Second attempt was the bacon BBQ burger. Even worse. Burger was way too overdone. Burgers should NOT be black on the outside. Completely dry and tasteless. Two or three bacon strips that were melded together and only partially cooked. Looked like the pre-cooked bacon that you can buy off the shelves in most groceries stores that don't require refrigeration. BBQ sauce on only one side of the bun and nothing on the other side. No lettuce, tomato, anything.
The results do NOT justify the $6+ for each item. And tossing in 3 slices of pickle on the side and a small bag of potato chips adds absolutely no value.
The only thing saving this place is that it's easily accessible to a number of offices in the area so that workers don't have to either drive somewhere for lunch or have it delivered.
After the two tries, I think I'll stick to having deliveries. read more
