Came home for a weekend and this new coffee shop popped up on my feed so we had to try it. It is a very cute place with ample, comfy seating and friendly staff. They have a ton of flavor shots to choose from which made the choices hard, but I went with my go to caramel latte which I loved. It was more bitter than sweet, but I love the taste of strong coffee so I enjoyed it. My boyfriend got a hot americano and loved it. The most important review is from my mom who got a hot spiced brown sugar latte: she never gets any flavors because she thinks they're too much but she LOVED this latte. They have a ton or pastry choices as well and a soup of the day! Definitely a great place to hangout and drink strong coffee. read more

This is such a bright, comfortable place to stop by for a drink or food or both. They were so friendly and helpful when I asked about their decaf and the milk substitute options. They have a wonderful variety of pastries and savory food in their cases and next time I will definitely Not Eat at home! Wanted to see what all the rave was about Matcha, so why not check out the local coffee shop. Honestly had no idea what Matcha was going into this, but turns out I'm not a Matcha fan On the other hand, I did have an excellent ham and cheddar crustless quiche. Very quaint coffee shop and it was full of people. Some groups and some solo sitting at the bar top overlooking James St. there's outdoor seating as well but it was a little humid today and threatening rain. Great spot to go, get a cup of coffee, and get some work done. I got the iced latte and it was a little expensive but pretty good. As for seating, there are a few tables, some couches, and a good bit of counter seating. I hardly say this, but I think the counter seating is the best. Their high chairs are super comfortable and there are lots of outlets. Plus a view of the street outside. Small place but doesn't feel cramped. Service was great, cashier was very polite. In the winter of 2016, owners Glen & Michelle flew to San Diego, California and drove to Seattle, Washington via California State Route 1, stopping at every small coffee shop they could find. Upon arriving home, they reached out to New York roasters, which led them to develop a relationship with a local micro-roaster who engaged them in many dialogues about coffee, brewing, and roasting. Through a fortuitous chain of events, a small commercial roaster was acquired and it was moved into their garage. Over the next year, profiles were developed for the coffees they roast today, and in 2018, The Cracked Bean Roastery was born in the small shop next to the Palace Theatre. I only started drinking coffee a couple years ago, so I've slowly been expanding my list of coffee shops. I recently tried The Cracked Bean after discovering how close it was to my job and have now been several times. Nicely decorated, cozy small spot if you're staying. Decently large menu, they always have some kind of monthly flavor specials. Enjoy their coffee, but have also have some chai tea latte's that are delicious as well. I think they're a tad expensive for the sizes, but most coffee shops have gotten expensive lately. Employees are usually friendly. I'd recommend giving them a try. read more

What a cool place for a coffee shop! Located right next to Palace Theater on James St, this coffee shop has tons to offer. This is the perfect place to meet up with friends, get some work done or relax with a warm cup of coffee on a cold day. Staff were so friendly and accommodating to specific needs. The QUICHE!! Michelle, the owner, revealed that the secret to her velvety EXCEPTIONAL quiche (shouty caps because it is over the top delicious) is that it's made with goose eggs. She has also perfected the crust! It is so delicious that I send my husband on a literal goose chase to get a Cracked Bean quiche once a week. So excited this spot is officially open! I used to come by The Palace Cafe from time to time, but it closed during the pandemic. When I entered the new shop, the vibe was the same as the old cafe-- regulars chatting away, using the shop like a watering hole. More of a sense of community here than other shops where everyone's off in their own worlds working on projects or just stopping in with a friend. This is the kind of place where the barista (already!) knows the regulars by name. Seems like they're still settling in. There were felt menu boards on the wall but half of them were blank. I felt a little overwhelmed because it's been almost a year since I visited a coffee shop spontaneously just to hang out, and my mind spaced on what I wanted to order. I wound up choosing an almond-milk mocha. I also got a cinnamon breakfast roll, courtesy of Scratch Bakehouse. The barista and I conspired over the pastry-- she said she really enjoys them, and I can see why. The roll was sweet and delightful. If you want to enjoy a roll without gobs of icing, this is a great compromise. There is a good selection of other baked goods to choose from. The coffee was made well too. I sat at an outside table to enjoy my breakfast. Full disclosure, James Street does not offer the most serene scenery (for instance, you're likely to be serenaded by at least one car blasting their speakers full volume at the stoplight.) However, it was still so nice to be able to sit outside in the sunshine and relax. The decor inside the cafe is quite lovely too. They have an electric fireplace and a more modern design. Finally got a chance to stop by after living nearby for 3 years and I can safely say this will be a regular cafe for me now! It's the perfect space to get some work done. It was 93 degrees out and I was thirsty! I hopped on Yelp, and, it being Pride month, found that they had a list of businesses that were "open to all." I decided to give it a click and see what popped up. Ender The Cracked Bean Roastery, which looked like a lovely little spot, and happened to be about a block from Walgreen's, which was an unexpected convenience for me, as I had to go there anyway. The cafe itself was spacious and clean. It looked like a nice, comfortable place to hang out. The barista was really kind and friendly, making sure both I and the person in line in front of me felt taken care of. I noticed their specials, on their lovely digital menu boards. One of them was a "lavender cloud latte-" lavender, vanilla, and white chocolate. Yes, please! I ordered mine iced. I am happy to say that it was delicious, and a lovely balance of sweet, but not overly sweet. Barely any of it made it back to my house- I'd drunk almost the entire thing down. I, uh, I kinda want to go right back for a second one. I was also feeling pretty peckish, so I asked what was good. The barista pointed out a number of things, but they mentioned, specifically, that the whoopie pie was "delectable." Look, the people who work at a place know what it's about- always a good idea to take their recommendations. Whoopie pies are a new phenomenon to me, not having grown up around here, but I was assured that they weren't horrendously sweet. Chocolate cake, oreo buttercream, and chocolate ganache. They were correct- it was delectable. I'm for sure going to stop by here again. They have a soup of the day, which I think would be lovely to try on a cooler day. A friend of mine highly recommended I visit the Cracked Bean Roastery after she had visited soon after they opened only a couple months ago. I came in around 8:00am and had a very pleasant chat with the owner Michelle who explained that they had out grown their other location in Manlius. I'm very happy that they have found their new home on Eastwood! I ordered a small Latte with caramel and a berry pastry. The latte is absolutely delicious (they roast their own beans!) and I took a bite out of my pastry before taking a photo because my eyes wanted to eat it as soon as it was handed over. I could see myself meeting up with friends or acquaintances here for a quick get together and a chat. They have both outdoor seating and a cozy indoor seating area. As an Eastwood resident, I could easily see myself stopping by regularly. Other things to note: there are a few street parking spots in front of the cafe, but there's plenty along the street and there's a lot around the corner of the theater as well. It could be really nice to stop in before or after a show and walk along the street for a nice evening out and check out the other shops on James. Thanks for the coffee and sweet treat! The Cracked Bean is exactly what this location in Eastwood needed- a walk-able, welcoming cafe with darn good coffee. (Though it's so welcoming I was nearly late to work the other day because I was enjoying my conversation with the barista so much!) My husband and I stopped by a few weekends ago and immediately were impressed by the quality of the coffee. The dark roast we tried was one of the best he or I have had in a while- usually a dark roast seems to mean "burnt" but this one had flavor and depth to it. My chai latte was pleasantly spicy, with cardamon being the strongest of them. It made me take note and think the Cracked Bean really cares are about things flavor. The pastries they keep in stock are also good, and there is usually a vegan option available. They still don't have a menu posted on their boards yet but all of the basic drinks I have had leave me looking forward to trying their specialty items once they have them. There is street parking aplenty and a parking lot in the back which visitors of The Palace Theater businesses can use. Eastwood seems to have already fully adopted The Cracked Bean. The cafe has been active with people working on laptops, or friends meeting, or folks popping in while out on a stroll every time I've been in. read more

The coffee is delicious, but I usually get a latte and add a flavor or two, like cookie butter and marshmallow. The cookies here are also so good perfectly soft and yummy. I'm constantly searching for great coffee shops on my travels. Living in the south, I appreciate a wonderfully crafted cold brew coffee. When you can feel the air engulfing you like a thick, wooly sweater, you don't hate on the cold coffee drinkers. Most cold brews I find are fairly bitter, still good, but not as nutty or smooth as they should be. If I want bitter, I'll get an iced coffee and add cream. The cold brew at the Cracked Bean is phenomenal! So smooth, yet still bold. No sweetener or cream needed to balance it out! Feels like they give a sh!t about the cold brew. I'm glad I found them and when I come back to Syracuse, I'm getting a growler for the hotel so I don't have to drink awful hotel coffee! Other than the coffee, they offer a great selection of pastries and other goodies. The cafe itself was comfortable with space to work from or couches to just relax on. Great playlist playing and a lot of plants to round out the energy in the space. Love it. 7 star experience. Don't skip this place for *bucks. read more

Ok kinda sad because I've been there at least 5 times and the cold brew has been so good and we even bought the cold brew to take home! My boyfriend and I took a ride to get 2 cold brews and some food . I got vanilla and my boyfriend just got cream and sweetener. We both took a sip and it tasted sour! Baked goods look amazing, we got three mochas expecting them to be sweet and they weren't, the barista explained afterwards they used unsweetened chocolate so if you like unsweetened chocolate you will love their mochas otherwise they're very bitter. This review is of The Cracked Bean Roastery's coffee only. Specifically, the Costa Rica blend. I received a package of Costa Rica and brewed up an eight cup pot. The first cup out of the fresh pot was light and not very flavorful. I decided that it may need to age a bit, and after twenty minutes or so I poured a second cup. This one was robust and flavorful. The hints of orange, pear, lemon, and caramel sprang subtly forth. None of them were dominant, but the combination seemed evident. The second cup was quite satisfying, and would have been more so but for the slightly bitter aftertaste that followed each sip. Perhaps I could have overcome the aftertaste with a dash of salt on the dry coffee prior to brewing. I never do that with my regular brand, and don't seewhy it should be. I will point out that I'm no coffee aficionado, so my opinion, like my suggestion for brewing Costa Rica, should probably be taken with a grain of salt. read more

Could not get sense for the coffee at all because the milk was so badly over heated. My wife ordered a flavored latte and had the same issue - could not taste much outside of the burnt milk. Was surprised the barista struggled with our order as we were the only 2 people there. Will avoid this place going forward. read more
