I walked in as a party of two on a Sunday night and had no trouble getting seated in the outdoor sidewalk shed. We both ordered vegetarian pho and it came out within 10 minutes. The pho was ridiculously good. The broth was flavorful with a hint of spice, which was satisfying on a cold night. All the veggies were tasty and added variety, while the soy protein was really good but came in pieces that were too big in my opinion. Huge portions, cash only. The Noms! The Park Slope location, the original location really shows how bustling they are. We went on a rainy day for an early dinner and place was packing up as it got closer to dinner time. I sat facing the door and saw non stop orders for to go being picked up. As busy as it was, everyone was still very friendly and smiling. From the outside, you could smell the pho broth and the richness. Upon tasting, it did not disappoint. The pho broth alone might have been my favorite. We tried their rooster wings, spring rolls, brussle sprouts, 5ive special pho, beer battered fish tacos, classic banh mi, limeade, and ice coffee. My top three were the pho, brussle sprouts and the wings. I am a sucker for brussle sprouts. There was sooo much more I wanted to try but i was full. When keeping with Asian cuisine, I try to keep my stomach in check with staying in line with the cuisine all day. That way my stomach will accept it, rather than having an unpleasant experience in the bathroom because it fails to identify different cuisines, especially when you change gears too suddenly. Going from one Southeast Asian country (Thailand), to another Southeast Asian country (Vietnam), the change should be seamless, given their respective cuisines and views on food. This theory proved correct. When you walk in, they immediately greet you with, "This is a cash only establishment." If you have no cash, walk out, and re-evaluate your past life choices before coming back in with the cash you will so badly need. It was not long before I got torn on the Banh Mi (served on a French baguette by the way), and the Pho. My server suggested the Pho, the 5ive Spice Special Pho. It comes with lots of good meats, and a creativity that only measures up to Madame Vo. Too many meats for me to put here. The Pho arrives quickly, but it is worth the wait because it is so tasty with its delicious and plentiful tender meats, along with a beautifully crafted broth, which carries a small kick. There is plenty of noodle to go along with this bowl as well. I really liked this. Next time I have to get the Banh Mi just to get it and see if I really made the right choice, or if either one would be okay. After all, it is a short walk from Barclays Center, where there is plenty of subway lines nearby to get you here. Surprised that I haven't left a review here yet, as it was always tradition to grab dinner here before an event at Barclays (pre pandemic). I finally returned last Saturday even though I didn't have an event - I was just craving pho! And 5ive Spice is definitely one of the best spots in Brooklyn for it. I got the Beef pho ($12) while my bf got the 5ive special pho ($17) and added an egg for an extra $2. We forgot how big these bowls were - it felt like there was actually more protein than noodles (no complaints there) and I couldn't even finish my bowl so I brought home the last several bites. Amazing. We also got an order of the beer battered fish tacos (2 for $9.50) which were just as yummy and messy as I remember. I personally prefer the traditional style of banh xeo (and wish that they served it here!) but the tacos are a unique menu item that you can't find anywhere else. We each got a Viet Iced Coffee ($4/each) that we couldn't finish as well, bringing home almost one full cup after combining our leftovers (lol). We also shared a lemongrass porkchop banh mi ($10) which was deeelicious - the bread was so fresh. We also ate one half of this, and brought the other half home. Yes we may have over-ordered, but the value of the food here is great - not overpriced and the portions are generous. The only thing to note is that this was our first time sitting at the high chairs/table and unfortunately it was a bit awkward since we were sitting side by side, and were directly facing another couple... there was a black bar across the table that kind of separated us from them, but it still seemed like we were a bit too close for comfort. Even our server got our orders mixed up, thinking the 4 of us were together, and then accidentally swapping our banh mi orders (they got the traditional, we got the porkchop - they didn't realize they received our porkchop until they were halfway through the sandwich). Perhaps each couple should've sat across from each other instead, but I think it would've still been awkward with that black bar across the table. Not a great table for couples and a bit tricky for sharing if you are with a party of 4. Still, it's one of my favorite spots for dine-in Vietnamese food. When we walked in, we were seated immediately even though it was pretty busy. They also have outdoor seating with heat lamps. The service was great and we got our food very quickly. All the staff are really nice and friendly. I really enjoyed the vibes of the restaurants. The food was delicious as well. My friend ordered the banh xiao tacos, which is what this place is known for. She really liked it and thought it was so special. I got the lemongrass pork vermicelli noodles. I liked that there was a lot of vegetables and they also have me a lot of meat. The vermicelli was the perfect texture and the nuoc nam sauce made the dish very flavorful. Delivery gone wrong... I got the chicken bowl which was good. But my wife who hasn't been a vegetarian for 26 years got a very beefy dish instead of the soy protein she ordered. She didn't paid too much attention at first especially since fake meat looks more and more like the real thing these days. After two bites she realized it was meat and was quite disgusted. I called and they barely cared. They even asked me to send them pics to prove it. Really bad costumer service and lack of care. Never going back or ordering... The best takeout I had in a while! Obsessed with it and I am going need to venture to Park Slope to have it in person. If you want real deal Vietnamese food this is your place. I went all in and had the beef Pho & classic Banh Mi. The attention to detail with the delivery was perfect. One container for the rich broth, one with all the add ons - cilantro, beansprout, lime, and the meat/noodle bowl. Building it to my likings was very easy. Stopped by here for lunch on a Sunday , and it was decently crowded, but we didn't have to wait long for a table. We ordered pork spring rolls to share and I got the beef pho. The spring rolls were great, the pork was super flavorful and had a great char, although they were pretty small (only two pretty small rolls) and not worth $9 in my opinion. The pho broth was pretty interesting, since it had a spicy kick from the 5 spice that traditional pho broths don't have. The meat was also pretty tender, but one small complaint I had is that the noodles were really hard to eat since they kept slipping off my chopsticks. I'm not sure if this is because the chopsticks given were too thin, or if the noodles are just really slippery. I tried my friend's short rib pho, and really liked that one. The broth was sweeter and the short rib was super tender. Last night, craving pho, I biked over to 5ive Spice with my girlfriend. There were no outdoor tables available so we dined inside. It was VERY busy with many delivery and take-out orders being picked up, yet we were quick to receive water and place our order. I opted for the beef pho ($12), which comes with brisket and rare steak. My food was served in record time. I've waited longer in fast food drive-throughs. This service was astoundingly speedy. The pho itself was very good. I'm a stickler when it comes to the broth, and 5ive Spice has excellent broth. The meats were also delicious, and abundant; they hooked me up on noodles as well. The serving ended up being so big I took some home with me, savoring the rich broth as a late evening snack. Having taste-tested much of the competition, I consider 5ive Spice to be my favorite pho between Columbia Street and Prospect Park.
