"Great Beer, Great Food, Wonderful View!" I could not believe my good fortune! I've never been here before, but decided to give this taproom a try. I felt right at home as soon as I walked in the front door. The server, Sparkle, was super friendly, and made some great suggestions for me. Guess what--they have a band coming in a few hours with a saxophone! I'm pretty sure they're bringing the band in just for me, but I could be wrong. During the crisis, you have to sit outside of course, but no problem. They've got a lot of tables on the patio, where you get a great view of the downtown area. So there I was, relaxing with a wonderful plate of street tacos, and a beer in hand, watching the beautiful downtown Clovis area. On my visit today I ordered a Pilsner and paired it with fish tacos. Yes, the pilsner was good, but I expected that. The two fish tacos surprise me. They are actually quite large. They're made in a little different style than I'm used to. The tortillas are actually more crunchy, with crunchy fish, of course, as well as cabbage and a mild sauce. It also includes slices of lime. It doesn't get any better than this folks. So all around, a wonderful visit. One of my favorite breweries, in one of my favorite towns. read more

559 now is serving barbeque from someone that I understand previously had their own space, my wife and her friend went in for lunch today and ordered a Tri-Tip sandwich with they said was very good and then my wife ordered some ribs to bring home for my lunch. She didn't bother to look in the takeout container or she would have sent them back as I would have if I was there, they were burnt and overcooked and the flavor was not something I cared for so the sandwiches may be good but based on this experience I don't recommend the ribs and is probably not someplace I will want to try again. read more

Attended to watch a live music event. One of the servers was completely inappropriate, rude and drunk. She 100% needs to be fired. She sexually harassed one of our friends, and tried to play it off as a joke??? She also tried to get into a fight with another one of my friends when we closed our tab with her, so that we could be attended by the other server, because she was making us extremely uncomfortable. I will not be going back to this establishment if she is still working there, and highly suggest everyone else be cautious if attending. Not okay for this establishment to accept such behavior from staff. We complained to management in person and they did nothing and we had to deal with her the rest of the evening. read more

We were at this place for a students performance that was happening there. It was crazy busy with lots of family and friends to see their kiddos perform. Unfortunately, the place where they have been performed was an optimal, they could do so much better with stage set- up and lighting. There were lots of people there and the place was overpacked. The waitstaff were obviously overwhelmed, and hopefully the management will be more prepared with bringing more in the next time for an event like this to more easily serve all of the people. Our waitress, although definitely overwhelmed, was super sweet and as attentive as she could be with all of the people there. I ordered their house cabernet and it was lovely with a enjoyable subtle smoky flavor. We ordered fish and chips and fish tacos. Both were fine, and I consider both to be decent bar food. read more

This is another fantastic family owned small business in Old town. I came to know of them during the March of Dimes signature chef's event a few weeks ago and I thought I would look up their store. I did give them a piece of advice that they seem to take very well. I mentioned that I have driven by their location a dozen times and had no idea what "559 local" was and I suggested the implication of a brewery in its name. They took that well and it appeared on their menu and walkway signage as "559 beer". I was greeted right away they do remember me from the event. It was wonderful to see a family picture on the wall as well as to hear about their great selections. I highly recommend just doing their sample tasting of 8 beers as seen in my picture. Not all are to my liking but I appreciate that they are trying to stand out from the other breweries locally. I also really like that they post the ABV (alcohol by volume) as well as the IBU (international bitterring units) so you can decide based on you palate, hop level etc. My favs were the Fig garden stout - dark smooth with black mission figs from Fresno and Chevy BelAir ale with cascade hops. They have a small outdoor area as well as a very nice window area to sit around in a larger group Lastly I was excited to hear that they just teamed up with another great business in Old town, Kuppa Joy to release a dark beer based on their coffee beans. read more

356 Tavern is on Pollasky where the old Clovis hotel is downtown (across from Luna's). My beautiful sister told me she was performing here for an open mic night. She said it is an ice-cream shop/bar/music venue...um, okay... that sounds awesome. I came on a Thursday at around 7:00. There was already a line out the door, but it wasn't for the bar, it was for ice-cream! We enter on the left side and there is a small bar serving local 559 beer. The bartender suggested I try Cheryl's BelAir, named after his mom! How freaking cute is that?! Well, Cheryl knows what she's talking about, because this was a perfect light crisp beer. We then take our beers and walk into the back to watch the local performers. IT IS SO CUTE!!! There are benches and wine barrels for tables. The décor is still similar to the Old Town Hotel, but the layout is different. I don't know if it was the night we came, but ALL of the performers were amazing! Different, but all talented. Some played original songs, some played rock/country, some played acoustic cover songs, some played ukulele. But, rest assured if a musical act is not your cup of tea, they are only allowed to play three songs, so you get everyone's best three songs, or people trying out new things. The crowd is a bit on the older side. (I'd say the average age is about 45), I like this! I didn't see anyone annoying, or heckling or too loud. Just a group of respectul and supportive audience members. As the night went on, it got a little bit more busy. I would suggest coming at around 7:30. I'm so glad Clovis has this spot! read more

I always enjoy going to the 559 on Friday evenings for the Farmers Market and Saturdays too. I like their beer, live music and food. Its a fun place to sit on the porch and people watch. They have a really friendly and helpful staff. Sparkle really shines and makes me smile and feel like a VIP. She works hard and I appreciate the service and attentiveness I get from her. I was walking in downtown Clovis and saw this place open. You could buy a beer and any food, take it out or stay at the patio and drink a beer. It was a relief. While all restaurants are open for take outs only this place actually lets you drink and eat. No crowd is allowed. All spaces are marked so it's very safe. There are only about 6-7 spaces are available on the patio which are distanced according to safety rules. We enjoyed our food. It was pretty good. The only complain is the lack of my favorite beers. Wheat ales, Belgium style ales. I wish they have more beer choices. read more

Love me some Old Town Clovis and wanted to try a new spot. My husband and I decided upon 559 Beer. We both love businesses that keep that rustic and/or historic feel. When we were seated by "Sparkle" our waitress, we noticed that the interior looked like a true old west tavern. My husband said it reminded him of some scenes in RDR(for all you gamers out there). The service here is good and "Sparkle" is hilarious. I ordered the chicken salad which is shown in the picture and keeping true to old west form, my plate was chipped. My hubby ordered the chicken tacos. He said they were really good. My only issue with my salad was the lack luster ranch. The chicken was good though and so were the greens. I also ordered the Adelaida Cab and it was delightfully smooth. A live duo performed some older and newer songs while everyone was eating. I first visit to Clovis and I was famished! I wanted someplace where I could try a local beer with my lunch, and the music blaring from this old house to my attention. There was one person on deck and she cheerfully told me to take a seat.. I had the chicken sandwich which was delicious and the hazy IPA. At first the hazy seemed very fruit juicy as I usually like the hoppier taste, but after a couple sips in, it was absolutely delicious. I've never eaten here before because it's beer, not my favorite ever. What a mistake that's been. They also offer Vodka and Tequila drinks. We had a burger, garlic fries, street corn, and chicken wings. The wings, garlic fries, and street corn was amazing. The burger was also good per my friends. Of course the Lemon Drop and San Joaquin Margarita Rocks (w/jalapeno) were great. Met a friend here for a afternoon refreshment, I ordered an amber ale, he ordered a pale ale, both looks terrific! A small place which appeals to me (very Ireland like) comfortable and personable. Not as noisy as the BIG places that beers sales normally attract, that in itself is worth a visit. There is out side seating if you like, and being Old Town Clovis everyone is very nice. Had a wonderful first time experience with my fiancé and in-laws here a few weekends ago! He was just opening the place for that day when we walked in and we were greeted with a friendly hello! The place is so cute, clean and fun looking! We sat at the bar speaking with one of the owners Rhett and he gave us the back story on 559 Brews and it was really cool to hear about! They have beer flight options that are really cool but we just did individual tastings instead. The strawberry ale was probably my favorite, we even bought a growler of it to take home! The manager was completely RUDE!!! My mom was about to order and the "manager" was very forceful on ordering and when she did my sister went to the restroom. The "manager" told her it closed in 10 minutes so we did not want to eat there anymore. Then my sister came out and the "manager" was YELLING at my mom saying if she wanted argue and that if she isn't going to order then she couldn't use the restroom. Another person came out and said "Don't you read the sign, it says restrooms for customers ONLY". It was truly the WORST experience we ever had!! read more

I had wanted to try this place out for SO LONG. Was disappointed when I finally made it over. 559 Beer was one of the stops on the Fresno County wine journey so we made our way over. We had plastic cups for the wineries but we tossed them right before as we thought we'd be doing a beer flight (Tioga participates and does beer flights). When we walked in the woman at the bar asked if we had glasses and we quickly thought "oh shoot" apologized and said we tossed them. She looked visibly irritated as she walked over to get plastic cups. She then informed us the tasting was only two samples (probably about an ounce). We started talking about food and she informed us kitchen was closed and they were actually closing up really soon. I give 2 stars because the strawberry beer I tried was delicious and I love the location of Old Town Clovis. Maybe I'll give it one more try. read more

They got my sons burger wrong so I shared my chicken strips with him and both of us started to gag because whatever it was that we were eating was not chicken. It was more like rubber, jello and grease. I would rather lick the bathroom floors at a truck stop than to eat here ever again! My mother-in-law started throwing up from the chicken strips on the way home. Fast forward an hour and my son and I are both throwing up! So gross! Went here for dinner and we encountered many issues: 1. The waitress didn't write anything down and when our order came out she forgot my son's food and gave my husband the wrong burger. 2. While my sister was eating her fish, she found a WORM in her fish!!! I thought she was exaggerating, but upon further inspection, I realized it was a worm! It was pink and holding it's form despite my sister having eaten the fish around it. We told our waitress and she brought the manager. The manager told us it was not a worm but a fish vein. I told her I cook plenty of fish and know the difference between a vein and a worm. The worm in the fish was totally not their fault, since they order their fish from a supplier. However, the way the manager responded was completely unprofessional. She even came back to argue that it was not a worm. She was unapologetic and claimed she took a lot off of our bill, but all she didn't charge us for was the food we never received due to the waitress placing the wrong order and the one order of fish and chips. Stopped by for a beer while walking around the Pistachio Fest in Old Town. Three of us sat at a table, a server comes over to us and said, "are going to eat", I told her We were just getting a beer. She informed us that tables were for those dining only, and we could go to the patio for just a beer, she was rather abrasive. So we go up the patio, order 3 beers, not very cold beers, I walk to the window and ask for some ice, a different, also abrasive server said, "well the thing is, we are really short on ice". This was a FRIDAY and they had just opened! But, those dining, all had ice in thier waters and other drinks! So i drank as much as i could of my warm beer. My husband went inside to use the restroom, he was stopped by TWO different employees asking him if he was dining there, he explained we already purchased beer and not dining, if they were not going to let him go to the bathroom because he was not purchasing food. The whole experience was very ridiculous and that was not our first experience there but it will definitely be our last now! Oh and they couldn't break a 100.00 bill for a 25.00 purchase, again, it was FRIDAY evening! We first found 559 Beer last year. We stumbled upon this gem at the Old Town's Farmer's Market. It was our waitress Sparkle that made our experience awesome. We enjoy the food, live music, and atmosphere. Sparkle is truly engaging and meets her guests where they are. She not only is a good waitress she makes you laugh, feel important, treating you like family. It's that extra step and great interpersonal skills that keeps us coming back. After all it's honestly about that special customer service that keeps us coming back. My daughter and I can go there for family time or meet friends for dinner. In this day and age things are tough for so many people. I for one don't want to waste our resources and family time somewhere we are not taken care of and treated well. Our orders were messed up and forgotten. Things happen, but write things down to make sure you don't mess things up or are less likely to. Also found a worm in my fish, which I get they can't monitor that completely when it comes from a vendor. However, although she rightfully did not charge me for the dish, the manager very rude and kept coming up to our table to argue with attitude that it was not a worm but a vein... fish veins aren't stiff and thick and tapered and don't stick up like this did! Then she was heard bad mouthing us as she was taking it off our check! Had a great time here with Hillary at the bar. She was very nice and service was top notch. We had the sampler wheel with all 8 beers which are crisp, clean and perfectly balanced to each style. The beers are great and I hate that I have to give this place a 1 star. And it solely has to do with our server miss sparkle. I'm all for jokes with our server, however straight up insults and telling people To shove their water up their ass and telling another person that you spat in their drink because they didn't order beer and got a cocktail is really not ok. And ok I get it, the first time is a joke we share a laugh. But to come back to our table over and over to mention how the person with the cocktail is a "pussy" and the person who asked for water should shove it up their ass. Like how is that ok?? Not once, not twice, but five times. And we clearly expressed we are not ok with these comments. We were left So uncomfortable that we just left did not finish the beers and will Not be back, this is really rude and sad.
