Been meaning to go to 5000 pies and finally made it a couple of weekends ago. We got a build your own deep dish and a few cookies. Everything was so tasty! Feeding the community and employing the community is the theme here at 5000 pies. With respect to pies, they have deep dish pizza and regular sweet pies. We decided to get a deep dish pizza. One thing to remember with deep dish is that you may only be able to get through 2 slices because they are so filling. That was the case here. The flavors were great, and the pie was traditional Chicago. Because this is a deep dish, you have to give them an hour to get the pie cooked. So, order in advance. We threw in a dozen of their delicious cookies as well. They were yummy. When we spoke with the manager, they told us that they are trying to employee young adults in the community. That made the mission of this restaurant even that much better. If you live in West Long Beach or are just visiting, you have to try 5000 pies. Again, order in advance if you getting the pizza. Finally had the opportunity to get their PB&J AND bacon deep fried sandwich. One word: YUM! Crunchy on the outside and ooey gooey on the inside. I couldn't taste much of the bacon and its associated saltiness though. Still, it's worth trying and breaking your diet for! read more

Hands Down One Of The Worst Tasting Pizzas I've Ever Eaten!!! I read the reviews and gave them a try. Which I instantly regret after the first bite. Sauce was nasty and prepared wrong im a gourmet chef i know.. sauce had rosemary in it that gave the pizza a month pizza flavor. Almost floral. I got the normal cheese pie. Im not sure what type of taste buds the yelpers that gave them a 5 star review have. But im 90% sure , these are not legitimate reviews. Im sure there was an incentive for them to write a bogus review. Since they are owned by a church im sure the church goers wrote most of the 5 star reviews. Thanks to yelp I came across this pizza place 5000 pies. Let me tell you, this is the best pizza ive had in a very very very long time. They also have deep dish personal pizzas, it takes longer to make but the option is yours. They also have hand held pies, yes; hand held pies lol. They have different flavors of pies and cookies and to my surprise the cookies are 50 cents; now thats a deal lol. The cashier said the chocolate pecan pie is a hit. There is only street parking which can be a pain so prepare for that. I truly can't wait to go back and try the sweet treats, I've seen the pics on here and they look amazing. First time here, my eyes wanted to try everything in the dessert case! Been looking for a local place that makes worthy deep dish pizzas ever since our trip to Zacharys in Berkeley!! Got the mexican chocolate hand pie and the Nutella banana hand pie, both were really good but hands down the Nutella banana was my favorite! Order 3 of each cookie, so we could taste em all. I have had the pleasure of going to 5000 pies and having pizza, cookies, pastries, and buffalo fries multiple times. The food is always on point, and served with a warm smile. Although I'm not a sweets type of person, I always indulge w/ the warm chewy chocolate chip cookies. My favorite item in the store is the pan pizza. The multi-layer masterpiece has a perfectly baked crusty, leading into the a flavorful core that is a good as it gets w/out getting to Chicago As some people have commented, it is true that some items take a longer time to make (especially the pan pizzas which require 40 minutes to an hour). However, the wait time is due to the fact that the pan pizza is made from scratch and has a considerable amount of oven time. I have found that calling in the order is the best way to go for a pan pizza or when ordering multiple items. The staff is generally pretty good about giving wait times over the phone based on the current orders in the queue. One thing that really stood out to me is that the restaurant is a social enterprise with a goal of providing jobs, training, opportunities, and second chances to the local community. It is very refreshing to see a business that is not only focused on profits, but rather one that truly cares about the local community. The restaurant definitely has a very mom and pop shop type of feel. The cashiers are friendly and genuinely try to get to know the customers and try to remember their names. The place was crowded with the after school crowd. That's always a plus to me when teenagers love the place. My kids and I had cookies (excellent) a lemon hand pie, a berry hand pie, and some buffalo/blue fries. The fries got soggy under the buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing but the flavor was still good. I think I'd prefer the sauces on the side. The pies were sooooo good, I'm glad I got them to go, otherwise I would've bought more than I actually needed to eat! Wilson's customer service was great! I'm not sure if it was because it took me just over 40 minutes to get home as they are not close to my house but I thought the pizza was O.K. NOT bad but NOT good either. It cost more than the average local pizzas, but tastes better and just a few slices are enough to fill you up. Their pizza really hits the spot. Cookies are also delicious! Don't forget to check-in for a free cookie. The thick pies will take about 45 minutes to an hour to cook so it's always a good idea to order ahead of time. Carrying out might be your best option here due to limited seating. Pick up to take back home with you or enjoy a nice day out with your pizza at the park across the street. Personally, I love the mission and heart of 5000 Pies. It is located in this neighborhood for a reason and the people who work here are amazing, friendly individuals. Well I guess we got lucky the first time we tried 5000 Pies. Ordered a deep dish knowing it would take an hour. It was a little longer but we liked it. Next time we thought we would order a regular crust. We arrived to pick it up and it wasn't even made yet. We were given some complimentary cookies. But then we got home and the order was wrong. I called and was on hold for 15 minutes. I called a second time and the line was busy. I emailed and was told I could receive a complimentary pizza. I held my review until tonight. Tonight I thought I would take advantage of that redo. I called, said I was calling to order an IOU pizza. "You want to order a pizza?" She said. Love this group of people, their origin story and, of course, their food! I was introduced to 5000 Pies through one of the co-founders. She has a passion for food and community. She already had been working in projects like training young people of color to train as chefs and cook for neighborhood brunches. Then 5000 Pies comes alive - damn if their food isn't ah-MA-zing! They've catered my birthday party and a fundraising event we hosted. The small "hand Pies" are great food to go. Easy to hold and delicious. The vegetarian sandwiches were amazing. More than anything, this is a business with heart, making our community a better place. Their catering prices are reasonable and the food is fresh! I used to love this place. Recommended it to more people than I can count. But I will never go there again, the hours they open are so screwed up, it's probably not gonna be around much longer anyway. I ordered a pizza, was told 20-25 mins. I got there, drove around the block twice because there's no parking with the school getting out across the street. Huge line of 20 kids waiting to place orders for food, that didn't move at all. So I walk in to pick up my pizza that is sitting on the counter, & was told that I have to wait in the line of kids to get my pizza... are you fucking kidding me? As I sat there with my mouth open, seriously wondering if the jackass kid can read the menu on the board, because he was in front of the register for 5 mins deciding what to order. I'm a big fan of their deep dish pizza. I am a fan of Masa in Echo Park but 5000 Pies place is even better from a deep dish stand point (Although, Masa as a full service restaurant provides a different dining experience). The toppings are plentiful and the marinara is delicious. The pizza at 5000 pies far outdoes the pizza at Rance's in Belmont Shore. If you check this place out, keep in mind that there is really no where to sit inside. I've taken all my pizzas to go. Also, I phone in my order about an hour in advance and it is usually waiting for me when I get there. read more
