I had just spent time in Kansas City, eating lots of BBQ, and I'll tell you that 5 Star is excellent. Their brisket and ribs are deliciously cooked, and very tender. Their sauces are incredible too, along with all their side dishes. You can't pass it up! read more

Can't believe the people complaining that there are weeds on the sidewalk... I am sure if you would like then them to raise their prices they could hire a landscaper. Great brisket, you can get both low fat and regular, and each is amazing, sauces are great as well. All of the sides are equal to the task, something that disappoints at Bam Bam's. The smoked chicken is better at Smoking Apple, but that's the only downside I've found. Definitely worth a visit, though expect a slow line since they seem to be either understaffed or somewhat disorganized, depending on which staff is working the counter. read more

Orem is lucky to have two great BBQ joints. Unfortunately, the meat isn't what makes this place good. A BBQ place should be known for its meats, not its sides. 5 Star has good meat and great sides. If you are looking for the sides, go ahead and eat here. If you want truly spectacular BBQ with decent sides, head to Bam Bam's. Bam Bam's sides fall short of 5 Star, but the meat (the true element of good BBQ) exceeds 5 Star in epic proportions. Good meat. Great sides. Not a bad experience. read more

This restaurant was a great find! A diamond in the rough for sure! I had the Chuck Anderson sandwich (a blend of brisket, pork and chicken). The meat was moist and a delicious medley in my mouth. The house recipe BBQ sauce is a must. The potato salad was a good side. Light and refreshing more than most potato salads I have had. My husband had the two meat meal. Brisket and chicken both very tender and moist. Cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend the stew as a side dish or even as the meal. Delish! Cornbread was mediocre. Great place for authentic Texas BBQ! Will visit again next time we're in Orem. :) read more

5 star is good. I always get the chuck Anderson sandwich. It is very good, make sure to get bbq sauces and bama sauce. If you don't it's really dry. The only downside is that I'm always leaving spending at least 16 for one. read more

One of my favorite BBQ joints and the best in Utah Valley. Obviously not vegan friendly and not a place that you will want to go before you visit your vegan friends. Five Star BBQ will leave you and your clothes smelling like delicious meat all day. Beans are good. Don't bother with the mac and cheese- I've had better from a nasty little blue box. read more

Full disclosure: I am a amateur BBQ hobbyist and smoke everything from brisket to fish at home so I am likely a little more picky then the average BBQ diner. However, in this case I believe I am being more then fair in calling this place simply awful. Brisket was dry and barely edible without lots of sauce. Good brisket should really require sauce IMHO. Chicken was under-cooked to the point I considered it a safety risk to eat. Sides were decent but nothing I couldn't do better at home to be frank. The place is filthy and dingy and I would hate to see the kinds of critters that populate the place at night. read more

I love going somewhere and the food tastes fresh! You can tell a lot of work and care went into smoking the meat. They have a ton of bbq sauces to choose from and have a few that I had never tried before and now love. The sides are all equally wonderful. I have yet to find one that I do not like. Last the desserts,they are always changing them up and every one is delicious! I am never disappointed when I go to Five Star. And I have been going a lot lately. From the outside this place looks like a dive but the BBQ is pretty good. They have alot of different kinds of meats and a whole rack of BBQ sauces. The pulled pork is amazing but the other meats were just average. read more

I was extremely pleased with both the taste of the food and the quality of the service. The brisket was excellent, as was the JT stew and cole slaw sides (be careful with the cole slaw though, its practically a mini-salad!). The variety of sauces was great too, and the "Hot BBQ" was just the right level to leave a slight burn on the lips but not have you believe that you just ate a chili grown in a Guatemalan insane asylum. As for the service, I'm not sure if he was the owner or not, but the gentleman who served everyone behind the counter took the time to come around and say hello to everyone, asking how their food was and if he could do anything else for them. I appreciated this extra touch, as well as his friendly demeanor that he and the other staff members displayed while I was waiting in line. I'll definitely plan on coming back here the next time I'm in town! read more

*AMAZING* I have been here a few times and loved it. When my company was looking for someone to cater a business meeting I made the suggestion that we try 5 star. Their prices were unbeatable, the service was beyond our expectations, and the food... well it was the best I've ever had. We had the bbq sauced sandwiches with coleslaw, potatoes, and corn bread as sides. They delivered it on time and there was more than enough food for the 20 people we ordered it for. Everyone kept asking where the food was from and how impressed they were. We will definitely be using them for our catering needs in the future, as well as our friday lunches. Only draw back is that they arent open for dinner during the week... Other than that, no complaints. read more

I've been here quite a few times over the last nearly a year. I've always found the brisket first rate. It's what I like. I've also tried the pulled pork and it was good too. (I just happen to be brisket-religious.) Big selection of sauces--the ones I've tasted were good, but good Q never begs for sauce and I rarely use the stuff. The sides are usually good, the beans are the very best. It's nice eating on a plate with real flatware too and it's the only restaurant in the county playing actual music. Usually when you are hungry everything tastes great but I didn't feel like this was a whole lot better than what I could do at home with 30 minutes and the right ingredients. We just moved to utah straight from the south. We are from Georgia and Charleston sc, home of amazing food and serious bqq! We just tried five star and this place holds it own against southern bbq. We LOVED it! Great slow smoked flavor, good portions, great quick service and reasonable prices. This will be a frequent stop for us! In fact even my toddlers were fighting over the last rib! Great meats. Their sides are okay. Probably my favorite BBQ option in Utah so far. They tend to run out of or not have things at lunch. It's a little expensive for a lunch option (vs. fast food joints), but I think the prices are reasonable for the quality and tastes. read more

Disappointing. Came recommended from a few friends. Walked in, stood next to the counter for five minutes before someone showed up. Ordered the beef brisket sandwich. Cold, seriously greasy, and flavorless. I had to clear my own spot at one of the four vacant, but still dirty, tables that were vacant when I got there. First time here, we will be back for sure. Hidden gem. We had the sampler so we got to try it all. The meet was super tasty, cooked perfect. Five Star Barbecue lives up to its name. Immediately upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted by the enticing aroma of delicious meats. The staff is friendly and enthusiastic about their food. The food is absolutely delicious. We went with a group of seven adults, and ordered two of the "Burly" Sampler platters, and were completely satisfied. The Sampler comes with each variety of their fresh cut meats, corn bread, and three sides. Be sure to visit Five Star Barbecue when in Orem. read more
