Updated review for re-opened 5CK... Five Corners is still a 5 star lock for ambiance, energy, friendly staff and very excellent food. Since re-opening in July, 5 Corners Kitchen has been buzzing. After a half dozen meals at the reopened restaurant I can emphatically recommend 5CK as a serious North Shore eatery that stands on par with the best restaurants anywhere. On a recent visit I strayed into the cocktail menu and was so very pleasantly surprised by the gin, thyme and lemon cocktail. So good. I'm working my way around the menu with an occasional surprising detour for a special (beef tongue like the best corned beef you've ever tried). The salads are straightforward but surprisingly good. The steak frites is done perfectly with a mystery jus, just right fries, a magic aioli, and some greens that just all go perfectly together. Next time I visit I'll have to force myself not to order the steak-frites for a third time in a row so I can try some of the other 5ck staples like the well reviewed roast chicken. I can attest to the fresh oysters, garlic sausage, mussels, and pastas as all being exceptional. The mussels are a real value with a solid app sized portion with loads of flavor. You'll need extra toast to sop up that wonderful broth. Can't get a table reservation? Pop in a little on the early side and grab a seat at the bar or one of the many tables in the lounge area where the full menu is available. The new expanded space has clean lines, lots of windows, and a cool skylight over the lounge. read more

Five Corners Kitchen in Marblehead: Another Meal of Wonders! Until I fell in love with Five Corners Kitchen, I didn't realize how much light and lighting play into my feeling of well being in a restaurant space. At 5CK, you enter a high ceiling airy light- filled white-walled space, where the 2-sided facade is floor to ceiling windows, and the floor, tables, and chairs are all dark brown. As dusk descends and the restaurant opens for dinner, votive candles glow in the windows and on all the tables. It is surely romantic, and, even when it is its busiest, there is an overriding sense of calm and quiet magic. Whether you are outside looking in, or inside looking out, the scene is that of a just-opened jewel box. It takes us about 30-40 minutes to drive there from Winchester, but we have had many wonderful dinners and brunches there the last few years. Monday night we had what may have been our most stellar meal there. When I jumped at the description of Handmade pasta with Duck confit and Carbonara, i wondered if it would be too overthetop rich, but chef/owner Barry Edelman created a dish of well balanced indulgence that I am daily mind-savoring. On the other end of the see-saw, My Love had "the best salmon he could imagine", a generous 6 ounce filet, roasted perfectly rare, in a piquant honey and red wine beurre rouge. Some divine house-made gelatos capped a perfect dinner. The 5CK website does not maintain a fully updated menu, so I hope you will run up soon to Marblehead to catch those two entrees before they change! What a great way to celebrate Spring! read more

Have been here twice with another couple, so that's 8 different meals we've tried, all good. The oysters are always fantastic. Everything we ordered from line-caught cod to mushroom app to various pasta dishes was terrific. Excellent non-invasive and prompt service as well. Great spot! read more

Went for the first time on Valentines Day! It was packed! Everything was fabulous. The waiter was great, offering suggestions and answering questions. We got the toasted bread, shrimp cocktail (huge and fresh) and fries to start. All excellent. Would get all 3 again. I had the sirloin special and it was amazing, very flavorful and tender. Cooked perfectly. My husband had the cod from the regular menu and also enjoyed it. The Chardonnay (Hook and Ladder brand) was very good too. Complimented the hostess on the way out, she was lovely and happy that we enjoyed our meals. Not sure why we waited so long to try it! Will be back soon! read more

What an awesome place! Walked in for dinner and was seated right away. Had a great server who was knowledgeable about the food and the menu and who didn't forget we were there. And the food! We tried several dishes like innumerable $1 oysters, crispy Brussels sprouts, kielbasa, a cold platter of seafood, and escargots. Everything was great! The oysters though were really something special. And only a dollar between 5 and 6! Plus the restaurant is in a charming little area that you'll want to walk around after dinner (and burn off that food coma). Run, don't walk to this place! read more

Much anticipated the re-opening of 5CK they have done a lovely new build out but the food and service unfortunately do not match. We sat at the bar early on a Sunday evening so it was not busy and I have to say the bartenders were inattentive, thank goodness for the barback Tim who was very social payed attention and worked while the bartender Sara basically appeared bored. That said Chef has comprised a menu of inexpensive food items well worded with complex accompaniments but much to our chagrin we all agreed we were in high hopes of a more upscale better quality seasonal menu or alas boredom will set in promptly After all we are in Marblehead so Halibut or Haddock not "Dogfish" Sirloin Steak or another fine cut of beef what the heck is Bavette with awesome frites??? I visited 5CK last night, First time. I heard lots about it. The place looks great, bar atmosphere was high energy. The mixed drinks we got were fantastic. We had oysters @ $2.75 a piece before dinner. Very Good, should have ordered more. We were not Wow'd by dinner. I had the sole and my guest had Scallops. Portions were good, prices good, the food just did not match the rest of the rest of the place. We will go there again, might have been off night for the kitchen. The lady next to us was raving about how good her meal was, so, maybe our expectations were too high. Will go back as they do certainly deserve another shot. I rated the place a 4, because of the food (we'll see next time), but, I bet next time it will be a 5. read more

So, I'll preface this by first saying that judging this restaurant within Marblehead itself, I'd give this like 10 stars since there's not a whole lot else to choose from here. But, in comparison to other restaurants in the real world, this gets a solid 4. Food is consistently good. Good wine list. Great people watching. It truly feels like a night out. Again, hard to do in Marblehead. It can, however, work on evolving its menu - there are only so many times one can eat the same skate wing dish over the last 4 years. I also have to say that the service has gone downhill - the last couple times we went, the time in between courses was ridiculously long (like, an hour long). One of the best Meals I've had on the North Shore. Let me begin. Mussels in a thick roasted garlic cream sauce with leeks. Roasted Brussels. With entrees of bolognese, and huge pork chop. All with a hint of delicious French favor. Sticky toffee putting with homemade gelato. I hear most everything is made in house. If so, I believe it. Menu prices are high but fair, drinks are what will jack up your bill. They could use a variety of beers bottles available (local preferably) to pair with their nice wine selection. I recently visited here with a coworker from getting a recommendation from a patient because the oysters were only a dollar from 5 to 6 PM. When we arrived we were seated in a quiet and pleasant area the lighting was perfect and the service was very attentive. We each got more than enough oysters to eat for year. Wine was delicious with the sweet and delicious aroma. A lot of choices for anyone's pallet for fine dining. A little on the expensive side but totally worth it once in a blue moon. Highly recommend this place for the atmosphere it's staff and delicious fresh food. I will be visiting here sooner than later. read more

My wife and I love food and fine dining, so for her birthday we ended up going to 5CK on the recommendation of this site and several friends. All I have to say is that we have found our new favorite restaurant. I have eaten great meals in my life at phenomenal establishments around the world, and I am not exaggerating when I say that the food at 5CK can hang with some of the best of them. I ordered the skate and my wife the sole/lobster curry and the execution of both dishes were perfection, in fact I don't believe I have had a better fish dish in New England than the skate wing, which is really saying something. And to top it off, I feel the portions were more than fair. It is very rare that I end up feeling full (not just satisfied, but truly full) at a fine dining establishment, but I literally struggled to finish my meal after splitting a cheese plate to start. Furthermore, our server was fantastic. She had great insight in wine pairings, had a good sense of when to be attentive and when to not come calling (which I feel is a rarity these days), and really helped cater to my wife who has a gluten allergy by suggesting alternate dish parings that she could have. All in all, we had a five star experience here and we will definitely be back. I know there are a lot of great dining choices at this price point in the North shore, but 5CK has just moved to the top of our list. read more

Five Corners Kitchen was a delightful experience for two families - one with an infant in a car seat/stroller and one with a hungry toddler who has an excellent palate. Service was great - server was attentive but not obtrusive and very kid friendly. Our waiter had good suggestions and entertained us and our questions while we waited for our friends. Meals were delicious and very satisfying. They did not feel too heavy or greasy. The menu offered unique twists on traditional brunch. Our table had the crepes, quiche, arepas, french toast, biscuits and gravy, yogurt and beignets. Personally, the quiche for me, was one of the best I've had. Really good flavors and consistency. The only thing we wouldn't order again was the beignets. The expectation is that of New Orleans-like beignets which these were not. Perhaps call it something else or perhaps make them more fluffy-pastry like? Ambiance and decor were perfectly done with large sunny windows to boot. My last comment is an odd one. On our walk past this restaurant, the smell of garbage was slightly overwhelming. Not sure which establishment is to blame (there's another next door) but did not smell garbage near any other restaurant on our walks around town. Perhaps that's because it's on a corner? Don't know. Overall, I'd certainly come here again and would be excited about it! read more

Five Corners never disappoints. Adam is always so pleasant at the bar and drinks and food are always delicious. The chef does such an amazing job making all of the dishes so flavorful and fun. It's one of those places where you could order something you don't love but it would be delicious anyway because of the great preparation, creativity, and flavors. Stopped in last night for a quick drink and ended up staying for a few rounds and apps. Great space, casual dining with a simple elegance. Could not decide between the Tuna Tatar and the Muscles. The friendly couple next to us recommended the muscles as their cheese plate arrived. My friend had the escargot. Everything looked incredible and tasted perfect. The Chef/Owner stopped by and discussed the smoked meats that he creates in-house. Cant wait to go back and try more. My boyfriend and I went here on a whim Sunday, June 9th. We had just got back to the States from vacation late the night before, and were starving when we woke on Sunday from not having eaten during our day of travel. As we were going to Marblehead for rehearsal anyway, we decided to try to grab bunch at 5Ck. I am so glad we did. The restaurant itself is very modern, has the slightest marine hint in the decor, and it very well presented in general. As we've never been before and didn't know the place was so cute, we were not dressed up by any means (to my chagrin), but the hostess did not give a hint of disdain or surprise as some tend to. She was very pleasant! When we informed her that we didn't have reservations, she did a quick scan of the tables, grabbed 2 menus, and sat us promptly anyway. Our server came over fairly expediently and took our drink order. She gave us enough time to decide on food and then took our orders. The food took a little longer than I'd expect a brunch item to take, but it was well worth it. I ordered the Croquet Madame and my boyfriend got the Salmon omelette. Everything was so delicious! I was very impressed and pleased with the consistency and flavor of the omelette and how well the salmon was prepared. My dish was incredibly tasty and perfectly prepared in my opinion - well-done egg white but a nice runny yolk. Our server checked in to make sure all was well, but not every 5 seconds as in some establishments. A server regularly refilled our water glasses. When we were finished, we were able to get our server's attention to grab the bill, as we had to rush over to rehearsal, and she was very polite and prompt in taking the request, bringing the check, and cashing us out. We appreciated that very much. Will absolutely be returning for brunch and will have to try dinner soon! Definitely recommend. read more

On most nights I would give five stars but last night's meal loses a star for service. As always, the food was prepared perfectly and plated beautifully. However, our wait staff made an assumption that my husband and I would be sharing dessert. She also neglected to ask if we wanted after dinner coffee. The result was that my dessert sat melting/cooling while we waited for my husband's dessert and coffee. Also, please don't assume we take milk in our coffee. I am happy to say the long-anticipated opening of 5 Corners Kitchen in Marblehead has been worth the wait. It is a much needed addition to the food offerings in this town and I dare say it is going to be the kind of restaurant that will draw people from afar. Having lived in town for many years, I have always gone to Beverly or Salem for a good quality meal when I don't feel like trekking into Boston, and now I only have to walk 2 short blocks! I started with the Pork Terrine and had the Salmon for my main course. Both were fabulous. I loved that my salmon had a crispy layer top and was served over chickpea & bulgar which you don't see too often up here. It was a really nice pairing. My husband started with the mussels which were out of this world. We used the bread that was served before our starters (which seemed to be made onsite but I have no idea- it was just that fresh and good) to sop up the mussel broth because it was unthinkable to leave it after we finished eating the shellfish! He then had the steak frites for dinner and the meat was cooked perfectly and was wonderfully tender. The wine list is diverse enough to suit nearly every mood and I love that they are serving carafes as well as by the glass and bottle. For me, between the wines, the food, and the atmosphere, there was a decidedly French influence at 5 Corners Kitchen. French but in a very approachable way. I think Yelp has it listed as an American restaurant but I am not sure I'd peg it that way. They also did a really great job with the space. It has been totally transformed into not only a comfortable restaurant but also a sweet bar on the side. There is dining in the bar and it offers a few different seating areas. The decor is light, fresh and calming. Muted tones with both modern and vintage touches make the space a really pleasant place to be. The menus are presented on clipboards, which not only makes them feel cool and hip, but it also suggests that this menu is one that will change with the seasons...or perhaps monthly. I think they've given themselves a lot of freedom there to change things up based on what is fresh and local. Lastly, the prices here are really reasonable, which after you eat your meal, is even more surprising. Thank you 5ck for coming to Marblehead...I will be in often! read more

Food and service are hit and miss: eggs are perfectly prepared in every style, Mexican breakfast were delicious although soggy, Beignets were too hard and too much cinnamon and portion not a good value. About the service was slow and inattentive: plates came out very hot having been left too long on the warmer to get soggy and we paid for Beignets before our meal yet all tables around us were served them complimentary after their meal. - read more

The decor is gorgeous (note upside down bottle chandeliers!), the server was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and professional, and the food was excellent. Second time to 5Corners and this meal was just as delicious as my first. I came in planning to have the skate, but then I saw Cape Cod shark on the menu, BUT the special was Blue Fish - I was in fish heaven! Had to go with the blue fish, and it was wonderful!! Perfect balance of summer flavors. The service is great - professional but friendly. Only thing is the noise as others have mentioned - it's hard to keep up a conversation in the middle of the dinner rush. Best addition to Marblehead in years - I'm a believer! read more

Had double appetizer for dinner;The escargot and French onion soup. Both delicious and well prepared as ordered. Wife and daughter ordered steak frites. The server was attentive and gracious, checking on us throughout the evening. The drinks were served as requested and were generously portioned. Had a quick Sunday brunch here in the middle of a very long bike ride recently. The atmosphere is pretty French, though with the qualification that this is in Marblehead, MA, and that here "French" means Range Rover. I know that everything on their menu is good, but I can only seem to order the steak frites medium rare. The meat comes out perfectly every time and is served with a refreshing salad and thin, crispy fries dipped in a basil aioli. Get there early and sit at the bar. This rating is based on a few visits to the restaurant. In my view, this is the most refined food in Marblehead, and that refinement extends to the cocktails and service as well. The menu is not overly large but is very well curated, and my meals have always been very well executed. Similarly, the cocktail selection is interesting and even simple classics like a Martini or Manhattan are always spot on. The service is very professional, knowledgeable, and attentive; small things I notice like the fact that they do not clear the table until all the diners have finished eating so that nobody feels rushed. Even if you don't want dinner, it is worth stopping in to sit at the bar for a cocktail and small bite. read more

Our favorite​ restaurant during our trip to Salem. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable​ about wines and all the items on the menu. The food was incredible as well. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also impressive. The lighting and decor created a romantic atmosphere for my girlfriend and I in the dining room while simultaneously establishing a fun vibe on the bar side. Nothing is more annoying than a restaurant that accepts a reservation in the hope that a table might be available. We made a reservation for five people at noon on Sunday. An hour before, we called and asked if we could slip the reservation till 12:15. They said no problem. When we arrived, we were informed that a table would be ready in 5 to 10 minutes. When I checked again, I was told "maybe" 5 to 10 minutes. I could see that none of the large tables were anywhere close to leaving, so we left. A restaurant should not accept reservations that they know they may not be able to honor. The excuse that they can't predict how long people will take is nonsense. It's their business to be able to manage reservations. If we had walked in without a reservation and had been told it would be a 20-30 minute wait, we would have been perfectly happy to wait. Restaurant satisfaction is all about expectations, and we expected to be seated at 12:15. read more
