Asked a question over the phone about rotating tires and got some good free advice. Much appreciated.

My car needed to be re-towed (through a AAA request) and the guy (no name was given) who was sent had a MAJOR attitude problem. Unlike other times I have used AAA for towing requests, the business who would be assigned to come to tow me would call, their tower would identify who he was, where he was coming from, and how long it would be before he arrived. The 40 West guy never called to let me know he was on his way, where he was coming from, or how soon it would be before he would arrive. All he brought was attitude. I had borrowed a car from a family member and was at the location within 10 minutes (if not less) after calling AAA ... AAA told me the tow truck would be at the location within 30 minutes -- maybe that is their standard estimated time they use when a tow is requested or maybe the girl I spoke to did not know the correct protocol? I don't know. When I arrived at the facility that had my car, the tow truck was already there. I went inside to pay my bill and get my car key. I was warned by the employee at the location that the 40 West driver appeared to be upset because I was not there when he arrived. I walked out to his truck and apologized for him having to wait and his reply was a smug "whatever" with a shrug of his shoulders. His attitude only went downhill after that. He wanted to know what was wrong with my car and if payment was going to be by cash. I explained my car problem (not that he needed to know) and why I needed it re-towed and I would pay with a credit card. He shrugged again and he added "I was told you were paying with cash." I felt the need to ask if paying with a credit card was going to be an issue. He replied, "No" and what cards he would accept, but his attitude spoke louder than words. He proceeded to move his truck (roll back) and positioned it behind my car. As he backed my car onto the roll back and worked to secure it, another person from the facility where I had my car, came out to quickly speak to me. While I was busy talking with him, the 40 West driver got into the truck and simply left without me. I had no idea where he had gone or which route he took. I quickly got into my borrowed car and drove quickly to the garage where my car was to go, hoping he would be there. Upon arrival, he was there along with his attitude. Other unfortunate issues took place once at the garage (additional charges for mileage that had to be explained and settled), but his attitude and rudeness did not wane toward me or toward the receptionist at the garage. To say he was very unprofessional is an understatement. I have never used 40 West in the past (they were not my choice, but assigned through AAA), and after this experience, it is highly unlikely that I would recommend them. I was already upset about my car having an issue where it had to be re-towed, but to have this guy show up with a MAJOR attitude that continued through the entire time I had to deal with him, did not set well with me, hence the need to post this review. read more

These guys were amazing! I was traveling up from Baltimore when the thermometer gage started blinking red. They saw me right away, saw a crack in the radiator, and gave me honest advice for my specific situation. They ended up helping me arrange a tow all the way home- and since I am an AAA member it was easy. Probably one other the best car experiences I have had when dealing with car drama. read more

It is such a terrible service. They want to take your money only and don't want to fix anything. I took my car to fix the AC at 8.30 am on Friday. They called me at 9.30 and told me that my car was fixed by only changing Freon, and it was done. I told him it could not be fixed by changing only Freon. You had to wait when the weather was hot, and you turned the AC on, you would know if the AC worked or not. They did not listen to me, and told me $251 for only Freon change. My car's AC was not fixed, but still produced hot air waves. They told me to bring the car on Monday morning. I took my car on Monday. They told me that the charge would cost $1,250 for this fixing time. If it did not work, they would continue to look for other causes and add other charges. They charged me $251 for no fixing on Friday. Don't bring your car to them. Car worker's skills are bad, no experience, they don't know what they work read more

My car was stranded in the road. the guy from this towing company and the cop both shouted at me to the point where I asked them to relax. They both got angry and instead of towing my car to my house, which was two miles away, they decided to impound the car. The lady in the office, however, was really sweet and very helpful. I would recommend their service, just hope the tow truck driver is less rude to other people. read more

These clowns "installed" a semi-compatible CV boot part that failed a week later. Of course all the signed paperwork "guaranteeing" the work wasn't worth shit over the phone when we called about having the work checked. The fellas at the Buick dealership got a good laugh though... All that money for the wrong part? Loose bolts/parts just left under the hood? The car is still jumping around above 40mph and we have to undo the damage from your shit work. I had been a customer of 40 West for 30 years and I needed my car jump started. For the first time, they would not accept a check and insisted I pay in advance before the technician even touched my auto, which was parked in my driveway. Although they came when they said they would, I had to give the technician all the information I had given dispatch over the phone, e.g., name, address, phone etc. Finally, the service didn't even take three minutes and their business is located less than 1/2 mile from me and they charged way too much. After 30 years of being a loyal customer, they should honor any kind of payment I tender, ask for information once or call it up on the computer and finally charge a reasonable and fair price. As of today, I have changed who I will call, next time I need a towing or jump-start service. Maybe another business will value my time and patronage a little more. read more

My daughter attends college in town and I live over 2 hours away. 40 West Auto Care and Towing has been excellent to deal with. The service is great with fair and honest pricing. The people are kind and understanding allowing me to pay by credit card over the phone. The first time we needed service was for an unexpected issue and the issue was diagnosed and repaired within 2 days. We have sinced used them for regular service and have been extremely happy. It is comforting that we have found a "hometown" shop so far away from home and my daughter can feel confident that her car is taken care of. read more

I attempted to schedule service here by completing the form on their web site on Sunday. I never got a call or an email back. At 4:45 today, Tuesday, I finally called and asked about my request. The person on the phone, who would not give his name, said they were closed and that he only worked there part-time and knew nothing about the web site or scheduling. Google gives their closing time as 8, but even if the correct closing time were 5 as he stated, it was not yet 5 at the time I called. I requested to speak to someone else, and he said the foreman had gone home for the day. He seemed uninterested in my business or in helping me with my request, so I guess I will schedule my service elsewhere. I'm pretty shocked that a AAA-rated business would treat a potential customer this way, and I will be reporting my negative experience to AAA. read more

My family was pretty stressed when our car broke down on the 70 East on Labor Day. We called Triple AAA and Butch was the angel that came to our rescue. He was PHENOMENAL. He kept us updated on his arrival. He was friendly, extremely helpful and kind. We had two little ones in the car who were very nervous. He told us to stay in our vehicle and waved cars into the middle lane until our ride home arrived. He didn't have to wait for us to be picked up, but he was kind enough to do so in order to make sure we were safe.Then he towed our car to the dealership AND let us know once he had delivered it. It was heartwarming to receive such kindness, care and professionalism. He truly is an asset to this organization. He was our angel that day! Thank you Butch! read more

On July 4th 2020 my child and I were on the way back from Virginia to Maryland when I got a flat tire I called my insurance company for roadside assistance and was hung up on three times, very disrespected and no solution, I called numerous towing companies in the Germantown area and not one of them would come and help us. I called everyone in my phone book list no one was come help. My son and I sat for 4 hours trying to figure out what to do because our spare tire was low on air, so I was going to have to have a rollback tow me home my final call was to 40 west towing, they answered with respect very polite very nice any rollback was dispatched to our location. As we waited a couple pulled up had a air compressor mysteriously in the back of their vehicle and blew up the spare tire. When the rollback didn't reach our location Kyle was respectful very nice very courteous and when I told him that we no longer need his service that we got the spare tire fixed he was not angry he was not rude he wasn't disrespectful he was still the same person when he pulled up he made us feel safe so thank you very much Kyle we greatly appreciate it and thank you 40 West if we ever break down again 40 West will be the first people I call. read more

My wife recently got her car got stuck in Gambrill State Park and 40 West Auto Care & Towing showed up within 20 minutes. They have helped me more times than I can count. I have also used them for general repairs and cannot say enough about the quality of their work and professionalism of their staff. Years ago I would've totally recommended this place. Dependable and quick service who has served my parents and entire family for almost 29 years. Recently just had the worst care and experience at 40 west. And will never return again. And I recommend others do the same. I was leaving my job when my tire blew out and 40 west came within a decent time and towed my vehicle to their shop. I was informed that my tire would get changed in the time frame made available at the time. Which was an hour and a half. I settled for it because I had to get my tire fixed. In the time frame they were fixing my tire i stepped outside and made a few phone calls. The receptionist caught my attention to receive my payment. When I went over to pay she recited my total back to me. Which ended up being seemingly large in comparison to what I agreed on before getting the work done. I asked for a copy of the receipt and was asked what I was charged additional. She wasn't able to converse correctly what was the over charge. It wasn't until I continued to question it, that the supervisor stepped in and claimed they were miscellaneous things that needed to be done to the tire. However I purchased a new tire, I wasn't seeking to pay to get my flat tire fixed. They said they had completed other miscellaneous work that they believed needed to be done. Which essentially was done without my consent. And then they wanted me to pay for it after I never agreed to it. I'm a fairly young individual, but I'm definitely not dumb as they may have assumed trying to pulls fast one on me. When all the arguing was done with the supervisor he had the receptionist print me out a new receipt verifying the correct price. It seems as if the supervisor was making the attempt to pull a sneaky move and make me pay more. Definitely unprofessional and uncalled for. It was unnecessary to put up a fight with me about extra services added without my consent. At this point I was extremely livid. I stepped out for a brief moment to contact my mom who has been going to them for years and told her how crappy of an experience I was having. Informing her to contact the head of the company! She also helped me calm down. As I was walking back in I walked back over to the checkout counter and when the receptionist was handing me the receipt I noticed she had on jewelry that looked exactly like the jewelry I had In my car that my mother gave me. A sterling silver ring with a dark colored stone. Not very common to have this exact kind. The detail that holds the stone in place is very delicate and intertwines. It's very rare to obtain one of these rings considering my grandma made it for my mother when she was a little one. And essentially my mother gave it to me. And like an idiot trusting the company that has worked on our cars for over 29 years I trusted them to not steal my personal belongings from my car that I obtained services at their facility. At the time, I had questioned the lady, saying "that's a nice ring you got there." "What kind of ring is it", she was able to spit some b.s for the time being but I had a feeling in the back of my mind that something was up. By the time I paid for my tire and received my car. I made it a priority to double check my car. Where I had left the ring it was not there so before assuming the worse I proceeded to check the entirety of my car. And still it was not where I left it. I started freaking out because I was starting to believe the that gut feeling I had in the store was too true. I called them and told them there was a theft in my car and I was coming back to the store immediately. The supervisor yelled at me and told me his employees are not thieves and i simply told him my jewelry was in my car before services took place. He told me if I came back to the store and continued to "harass" them as he called it that he would call the police. I scoffed at his response and explained to him that it is unbelievable what they are trying to pull on customers. I called the police and unfortunately that day 40 west closed early that the cops were unable to do an investigation. I have yet to return there as well as take the loss of my jewelry. It's extremely unfortunate for myself being an uninformed customer on considering this auto care as dependable considering I have lost a treasure belonging that's been in my family for years. 40 west has lost a good number of its customers considering my whole family is really let down by the poor experience I had here. If you seek auto cares in the area, I recommend everything else on 40except for this place unless you want your belongings, your dignity, and your pride stomped on and stolen! Had aaa come tow my car from one shop to a ford dealership and they contacted this business to send out a tow. I arrived at the shop to pay the diagnostic bill 30 minutes before they closed, then waited in my car for the tow truck. I get a call 30 minutes after the shop closed by 40 w towing telling me that they were canceling my tow because it is at a business which is currently closed. which then I had to get the mechanic who helped me with my car on the phone (who was late to his sons baseball game) and get him on the phone with the lady at 40 w towing to tell them that it's okay for them to come pick up the car. All that just to try to get out of towing my car because it's close to the end of the day. Terrible customer service. read more

My car broke down in I-270 on our way to a hockey tournament, and the guys at 40 West were able to respond quickly enough to get us back on the road in enough time to get to the game in Hershey PA. They were fast, friendly and helpful -- both the towing and repair service staff. After determining the repairs cost more than the car did, we had to figure out a way to get rid of it. We thought we'd have to get it towed back to northern VA to do that, but they suggested we donate it to a local trade school with an automotive shop. It was a super easy process, so they saved us time and money with this option. Highly recommend them if you ever need a tow or repairs in Frederick area or surrounding area. read more

Not happy with my experience here at all. I decided to go with them because they had been recommended by AAA. First, they need to work on their communication. I would like a status update by the end of the day on my vehicle. I don't need to know all the details but a quick, "hey we didn't get done your truck and we will be working on it again tomorrow" would be nice. Second, some of the problems seemed suspect. They would give you a problem but if you disagreed with it or asked for a cause and they couldn't really describe it in a clear way. I actually think that a technician there made a mistake hooking something up in my truck and then they turned around and blamed me for the problem. Finally, I got my truck back and then a few nights later realize the tail lights, cabin lights, speedometer, and multiple other things aren't working. This was over the course of a week so maybe they were just tired of dealing with it but I cant believe I got a vehicle back with so many obvious issues. I will not be going back here and I also looking at filing a complaint with AAA so they can investigate if they want to continue recommending this facility. I am usually not one to complain or make a public statement like this but I just couldn't hold my tongue. read more

Took my car there last summer. they apparently did work that I could have had done free with the dealer (catalytic convertor that is covered by the federal goverment) I didn't know about it... they did and the dumb manager told me about it afterwords and did not even try to discount or fix the situation. the kicker is the manager lied after the fact and changd his whole story making me out to be a liar... Big waste of money and no attempt to even remedy it. take your vehicle somewhere else. read more

My muffler fell off and was dragging as I was driving down I-70 late on Christmas night. I was totally unfamiliar with the area, so I put my blind faith in the nice MD state trooper who called 40 West for me. Although a 45 minute wait was long from my perspective, I thought it was a very good response time for near midnight on Christmas. Since I was far from my origin and destination, I was expecting to get towed and then to have to find a hotel room for the night. Instead, the tow truck driver was able to use some chains to hold my muffler and exhaust off the road. This allowed me to complete my trip that night. Considering that they could have made much more money off of me by towing and then doing a full repair the next day, I thought this was extremely honest behavior and worthy of my first Yelp review. read more

I called AAA and literally within 15 minutes of the call Matt from 40 West Towing was there. He was fast, friendly, courteous and understanding of my lack of knowledge about my own vehicle. I had a blowout on 70 West and no spare. The state police called 40 west for me. They showed up right on time. Kyle, who helped me out, was courteous, helpful, and alert (even though it was 4am). The quick ride to a solid tire shop was really inexpensive,even though AAA had tried to route me to a repair shop that was out of the way and doesn't sell tires. Would recommend to anyone. On 1/22 as a result of a tow my Lincoln LS suffer a deep scratch to the passenger side from the front on the car to the back after being in a frontend accident On 1/22/177 My son was getting off exit 13B RT 40 in Frederick when coming to the light after applying breaks the LS slid into the back of a Ford F150 causing only frontend damage to the LS. On the evening of 1/24 after the car had been towed to the Montevue Lane location I went to go check out the car and see if it was repairable with a friend who is a mechanic once he got the hood up and started the car up he said it was ok to take the car so he can repair the frontend damage. Upon me going into the office to pay for the release of the car my friend came into the office to inform me that on the passenger side of the car there was a large deep scratch from the front of the car until the back. I went outside to verified damage that was not there before or after accident occurred but, it had to happen during the tow or after car was taken to their location. Office informed me to leave car there until they speak with boss in the morning. After talking with I think John the next day he stated they were not responsible for damage they caused. read more
