Last place I would bring a vehicle to have worked on brought a truck to have serviced oil change the next start leaking from the drain plug pretty obvious they cracked the drain plug when they tightened it up brought the truck back to them they tried saying it wasn't their fault. It didn't hit nothing but it's not their fault so I brought it back to a different Machanic and they said yes 100%. This has been tightened too much that's what caused the crack they will not do nothing for me so now pay $3400 to have a new oil pan put on so I have two different shops saying that is the only cause read more

Background: I worked in auto parts sales for 4 years. My wife got a $50 off coupon for them, so she took her car down for a diag and repair. After the diag, she needed a new serpentine belt and some other things. I get it; shops gotta charge for shop fees and labor, totally understand that. Here's the fraud. They charged her $82 for the Serpentine belt. (Typical Serpentine Belt prices are $20 or less, even for a premium belt). This belt is available at $10 on RockAuto.com and $15 at Autozone and Walmart. Even the most premium belt I could find from a large parts store was less than half the price they chard us. I called them and asked where they got the belt from- Advance. Advance sells the belt to consumers for $32- no auto repair shop in their right minds would pay the same prices charged to walk-ins, so I know they definitely paid less than $32 for it. But EVEN at $32, $82 for a serpentine belt is 156% markup on a part that Advance delivered to them at no additional cost Never going to The Lube Center, Auto Spa, or Frederick Auto Repair again. I can absolutely confirm that they are frauds. read more

Quality Management here. Manager and Assistant Manager we highly involved in the resolution of my issues. Had tires mounted and balanced by the dealership, but balance was so far out that anything past 40mph was a wobble fest. Shame on the dealership Tom had me back riding straight as arrow in no time using their road force balance machine. And found that the tires were out of balance by several ounces. These guys had me in and out in hour and even looked into another issue I was having, but couldn't pinpoint. A+ customer service! Will return for services in the future. read more

I used to LOVE their sister company The Lube Center. I referred a lot of folks (mainly family members) there. So when I went to The Auto Repair, I was underwhelmed by the service and excessive cost (but I'm definitely okay paying a premium for superior service). When my father went there, he was disappointed with the inflated price, but paid it because it was urgent. I dismissed both of these as one-offs. Until my sister went most recently. They pulled the perfectly stereotypical "take advantage of a young lady who likely has no idea what we're recommending." As a brand new homeowner, she doesn't have the disposable income to pay in excess of what's actually needed. After installing the fear of God in her (which is exactly what Consumer Reports suggests that sneaky car shops will do), she quickly agreed to shell out the payment in the interest of protecting herself and passengers. After leaving, and a bit skeptical, she obtained quotes for the same services from 3 local shops. About 1/3 of the price. When she called back to express her concern, the Asst. Manager Shane said, "wow, can you tell me where THOSE places are? They sound like a great deal and I should bring my car there." Don't fall for scare tactics. Your car will not explode or break down as you drive across the street to get a second opinion. Well done--Corporate Customer Relations hands it to the local shop, so don't expect much assistance. Simply spreading the word. I'm okay paying a premium for some superfluous services (Lube Center puts cameras under your car so you can watch.. Oooooh) but not when they scare the crap put of you and the quote everything but the kitchen sink. read more

I took one of my vehicles because I had some issues with it. They called me and provided me a quote to repair those issues and I thought it was a bit pricy but I went with it. When I went to pick it up I ended up paying almost $1000 and NONE of the issues were fix. They said they found more issues so in other to repair the vehicle I would have to spend about $5000. I decided not to go with them, but I still had to pay the, for "repairs" that at the end did NOT fix my problem. What a waste of time and money. read more

I started "helping" my father with auto repairs since I was 5 years old. My father would not let me drive unless I was proficient in fixing cars and by the time I was 16 years I was quite proficient fixing the family cars. So I know a thing or two about fixing cars. I do most of my auto repairs myself. I recently bought a used car and had to have a safety inspection done. I brought over to Fredericktowne Auto Repair. I had already bought engine and transmission mounts but did not have the time to put them in. I asked the manager to put them in and they agreed to do that. They did the state inspection and told me that I needed both front lower control arms replaced. They told me that they would need a couple of day to do the job. I allowed them to do the work. Well a couple days turned out to be about a week. After the first two days they decided to provide me with a rental car. How nice. Each day I called in they complained about the rust on the control arms. When I got my car back, I also got my old parts. The manager showed me the torn boots on the ball joints on the control arms. That son of a bitch could have just replaced the ball joints and saved me hundreds of dollars and had my car back in about an hour. When I got my car back I started having problems steering and I started to get a popping sound under my car when accelerating. Then one of my tires blew. I checked my tires and noticed both front tires were cuffed, One of my neighbors who does auto repairs for a living and I checked the work that Fredericktowne Auto Repair did. We noticed that the control arms were loose. This should have been picked up during the inspection and the wheel alignment that is necessary when the control arms were replaced. We also noticed that the shoddy work that Fredericktowne Auto Repair did also damaged my front wheel bearings, front half axles and transfer case. My friend and I replaced the wheel bearings and half axles. If these were bad when I brought the car in for the state inspection, they would have been flagged, but they were not. This either means that the inspection was not done or the repairs Fredericktowne Auto Repair did caused the damage. I brought the car back to Fredericktowne Auto Repair to complain about the shoddy work they did. The manager told me that he did not believe me that the control arms were loose when I got the car and questioned me regarding why my friend and I tightened the control arms and why I had an alignment done before bringing the car back to the repair shop. He could believe me that I did not want to drive a dangerous car and have my brand new tires worn out. He would not admit that the loose control arms hitting around could destroy the wheel bearings and half axles. He also would not admit that when the wheels are out of alignment it would cause the drive train to work against itself and cause cuffing of the tires and extra strain and wear of the drive train parts, such as the chain in the transfer case. Either he is a liar or just plain stupid. He did admit that something was wrong with the transfer case but stated that his shop had nothing to do with it. While we had the car on the lift I looked for the part number on the transfer case, but because of the location of the tag, I could not read the part number. The manager told me he could get me the part number from a website on the internet. He gave me the wrong part number so at first I ordered the wrong part, costing me more money. What a clown. I spend ten days replacing the transfer case. Now I have my car working properly. I would not recommend Fredericktowne Auto Repair for a dog catchers job let alone to take care of my car again. read more

My 6 yo van did not pass emission test because the engine light was on. I bought this vehcle used, and the light was on then. Later i regretted getting this vehcle since once the engine light is on, it means my bank account has a leakage. Honestly i hate to visit mechanics, i never know what they do, understand what they say, most importantly trust them. I paid a lot, a lot for god knows for what. Back to the van, i called them two days ahead, and made appointment. I got there, told them what is wrong-- engine light is on -- code is Pxxx something which essentially means, even me, that o2 sensor at least needs replacing. But they said i need 90 some for diagnosis, that is not redundable even if i let them fix the problem. Well i wait 2 full hours to get the diagnosis results -- sticking that meter, and re-reading the code i already told them. I am not happy i waited that long. Good part- they replaced the o2 sensor and the problem was fixed, which i did not believe first. Mu van is good now, and i am not broke, one less headache to deal. Thanks, and i give good score for honest service. But they need to look at their diagnostic fee, and time---please do not waste mu day. read more

He explained what was wrong and showed me the part and had it fixed within 2 hours. The guy who fixed the broken part was also super nice and did a great job. I have been very happily going to the lube center off middlebrooke road and one of the reasons I go there is not only because they are honest and informative, but also because if they came across a repair that they honestly felt could be done more effectively else where, they will speak up immediately. I love this because they build that type of trust that so few shops experience with their customers. Again , Todd, Alex and the asst manager ( I apologize i forgot the name) were extremely helpful and directed me to the Fredericktowne auto repair and informed to to speak to bobby. Well as soon as I arrived to the shop in Frederick there Bobby was.He greeted myself and my girlfriend with a pleasant smile and with haste. I was sent up there with a few diagnostic codes that came up from a previous time at the lube center and immediately bobby explained what they meant, how they effected my vehicle and broke it down into terms i could understand. On top of that he reassured me that they would still check it out, and explained how they would do so. Broke down the time and cost and was extremely informative. Now of course, getting repairs can be timely and boring. Waiting around in the lobby bored and not really sure of what is and what isnt going on with my car is usually the case at other shops. ( excluding the lube center :) ) But here at the auto repair shop, Bobby kept me up to date with everything going on ( which I imagine can be annoying when all you want to do is work , but he had no problem at all.) On top of that he was extremely personable and made casual conversation that kept us very well entertained. Of course excusing himself while working and helping other clients. But this caliber of professionalism and courtesy were highly impressive. Both of these experiences from the lube center, to my new #1 shop, the auto repair shop, have completely broken the fears and stereotypes that one may experience at other shops. I will absolutely be coming back to the auto repair shop for any major repairs. Its great to receive help from individuals like Bobby who really have a passion for what his profession entails but also the professionalism and courtesy he is able to implement within it. I got my state inspection done here. I waited several hours before they took my car back then gave me a ridculously long list of issues and said I failed. I took they same list to another shop who was very surprised and confused because most of the issues that had "failed" my inspection are not required by MD state inspection, like mud flaps and different tires and rims. Not sure if they were trying to run up the repair quote or just didn't know what they were doing. I would def. not go here for inspections and I am not going back because I dont trust them. read more

I had my car towed to this company after closing, received a call stating my alternate needed replaced. Told them ok do the work and they complete a winter check on my car. They call back and said my front brakes needed replaced and my back brakes were fine but needed to be cleaned. I said ok and the work was completed. Mind you my car was fine no shaking before the repairs. I picked my car up and its shaking from the rear. Called and informed them of this and they are saying it is from a car accident that happened back in 2011 (go figure???) by the way the accident damage was to the front of the car. Oh, and they said after they fixed my car and drove it the noticed the shaking but did not want to inform me because of the money I already spent ($1100). Hell it's because you did something wrong and want me to pay more money to fix your mistake. Will not go back there again and I suggest you don't either. read more

Long story, their mechanic misdiagnosed my car problem and ultimately led to me have to reinstall the rotors (paid twice). They failed to notice my calipers were failing. In the end they said they were sorry for my loss, and have a nice day. I'm out $500. Also upon comparing their costs to AAA auto repair, their rotors are $50 more per rotor. Their struts are $273 per strut but you can buy them online for $198. They have lost my business for future repairs. Lack true care of the customer and prices are too high. read more

I grew up in an auto shop, as my father owned two in Virginia. Since moving to Frederick I have been in search of a good mechanic and I must say that this place is the WORST! I had my breaks replaced 1 1/2 years ago with them. From the day I drove off the lot the brakes were squealing. My husband took it back to the shop twice asking what the problem was and Fredericktowne continued to act as if the problem didn't exist. The squeal has gotten louder and louder with each passing month to the point it is embarrasing to drive. I was told by my father and two other auto mechanics that they put cheap breaks on the car, though they charged me $700. I am now forced to pay for another set of breaks so that I can drive down the street without being noticed by everyone. My husband also took his car there to have his AC fixed on his car last summer. Fredericktowne charged him $400-500 to replace the compressor. When summer started this year his AC was back to not working and we took the car to Fredericktowne and they told him he would have to pay to have it fixed again. He has decided to take the car to another shop to have the car repaired. We were told, even by their employees, that they use cheap parts on cars. We will NEVER take our cars to be repaired by them again and warn you against doing so as well. read more

My husband made an appointment for me to bring in our SUV and have the tires balanced and aligned and a brake light replaced. So I got there on time, said I had an appt and they asked what was wrong, so I repeated. They didn't start working on my car for a half hour, so much for planning ahead - luckily there is a TV in the waiting room to pass time. I could see the service tech through the glass door and started to get nervous when I noticed it took him 5 attempts to open the back hatch door in the car. Sure enough after he finished the job and even took it for a test drive - I get in the car and once I hit 30 MPH and got on route 40, it immediately pulls right, so hard in fact you will go off the road in record time if you let go of the steering wheel. My husband was furious and called them, noticing that no where on the service check does it state that they balanced the tires, just says aligned. They suggested it was a tire problem and will switch the left and right sides for me at no charge. I'm not impressed. Ronadale was nice but the tech who did my car should have AT LEAST said 'hey it still pulls to the right, if you have time maybe we can try something else.' But frankly it's BS he even let me drive away. Now I'm inconvenienced by having to go back for them to try something else, something they should have tried in the first place but it just shows either a lack of knowledge or care on their part. After this I will not return. read more

After moving to Maryland, I originally had my car inspected by this place in June. First of all, even though I confirmed an appointment at 8:30 am on the phone, when I brought the car in I was told that vehicle inspections were done on a "when we can get to it basis". I ended up waiting nearly 4 hours for them to inspect my car and unfortunately I failed due to a leaky strut. I had the work done to replace the strut at a dealership since the car is under warranty. Since I had driven my car more than 1000 miles I had to have the entire inspection done again. They called me back asking if the work had been completed and if I wanted to bring it back in for re-inspection. They assured me that if I made an appointment, it was their policy to stick to it, no matter what. For some reason I agreed and brought my car back. This time they were at least better about getting it done in a nearly timely manner (only 3 hours). They called me and said I had failed again due to my rotors being too worn down! They offered to change the front rotors for a completely ridiculous price (almost $500). I told them I would have the work done somewhere else. When I brought my vehicle my dealership, they inspected and measured the rotors and told me they looked great and were well within the inspection limit. I ended up not having any work done and just having this place do an entirely new inspection. I called The Auto Repair and asked if there could have been a mistake made regarding what specs they used as a reference for my rotors. They immediately became very defensive and accused the other place of falsely passing me. After trying to work around their combativeness for several minutes, they basically told me that they couldn't be wrong. Now I've compared my first inspection report (leaky strut one) and my second inspection report (bad rotors). Although the measurements were identical they did indeed change the minimum specifications for my rotor on the second report! I can't get them to even admit they made a mistake. However, now I will report them to the MVA for using incorrect guidelines when doing state inspections. read more

I was quoted a one day repair to replace my punctured gas tank. The repair took four days, during which I missed two days of work, and then had to rent a car for the 2 additional days. Was told that they (Fredericktowne Auto) would cover the rental fee. My debit card was charged for the rental 2 days later. Two days after I retrieved my car, the check engine light came on. I took it to a different place to have it diagnosed. Needed sensor repairs related to gas tank replacement. Also retaining bar holding gas tank in place was loose and about to give. Took it back to Fredericktowne Auto so they could complete repairs that were the result of their incompetence. They had the car the entire day, and when I went to retrieve, the requested repair for the faulty gas tank installation was not done. I will take the car to a different place to have them fix the faulty work done by Fredericktowne Auto Repair. Not once during the 5 days that Fredericktowne Auto had my car did they call me to let me know what was going, the status of my repair, or to let me know that my car would not be available for pick up. read more

I've been going to Auto Spa for several years. As the price of a carwash has risen, the quality of care has gone down. Today I took my Subaru Forester in for a wash, the $21.00 wash. While the outside of my car looks great, the inside was very disappointing. The back of my car was not vacuumed, nor was the console area in the front seat. The inside of the doors were not wiped clean, and they missed a huge spot on the dashboard. Unfortunately, none of these things were noticed until we arrived home. This is not the first time, but this will be the LAST time that we get our car washed at Auto Spa!!! read more
