What really stood out was how they walked me through the entire process at the end, showing photos and explaining each step. It gave me a lot of confidence in their work and attention to detail. My AC condensation pipe was completely backed up and needed to be flushed. Their tech arrived on time and seemed very professional, spending about an hour and a half working on the unit and inspecting everything inside and out. However, he couldn't find where the evaporator line exited the house. His solution? Install an external pump and run a whole new drain line. The rough estimate for that was, well, a hell of a lot more than the $15 fee they charged me just to come out and take a look. When he left, I still had the exact same broken AC, was stressing over an exorbitant bill to fix it, and somehow found out I'd been signed up for a $15-a-month service plan that entitled me to another check-up in six months just in time for winter. Hoping to just get it resolved, I reached out to Service Wizard via Yelp later that evening to see if they could come back today to do the work the tech recommended. I never got a response. Frustrated, I called a different AC company. They actually answered the phone, sent technicians out right on time today, and those guys spent **five minutes** at my house before finding the external line, repairing it, and flushing my system. Problem completely solved in under five minutes, and the fee was incredibly cheap compared to the massive quote I got from Service Wizard. I will definitely be canceling my $15-a-month contract with Service Wizard and won't be recommending them going forward. Save yourself the headache and call someone else!

Unfortunately, we have had a lot of difficulties with our Samsung washer and dryer and have had to have both repaired, several times, over the past 4-5 years. A few months ago, Greentek repaired our dryer, and most recently, they came out to assess a persistent annoying problem we've had with our washer. Greentek advised us the cost to repair the washer was higher than what we wanted to pay. (The amount of the repair and the amount we put into repairing it in the past was going to exceed the cost of a new washer.) So, we declined to have Greentek repair the washer and decided to buy a new washer. (Not a Samsung!) Both experiences were positive and we have no complaints with Greentek. They are prompt, professional, offer reasonable prices and do everything as agreed. Call them.

We opted for a new system. They had it installed and house cooled down when we returned on Saturday! We were also wanting to move our thermostat but wanted to talk through that. They came back on Monday to take care of moving the thermostat.

Several years ago, Airco installed a 3-ton variable-speed system in a house that had previously had a 2-ton unit (and a history of trouble keeping cool). After about a year of operation, our tenants reported mold in the ducts, high humidity, and a short-cycling unit. Our investigation found that the installer, Stuart, had never pulled a permit for the work. I want to be candid: it took a negative Yelp review to get Airco's attention. Jeremy reached out, recommended we upsize the ductwork, offered a very fair price, and agreed to close out the permits. I'm slow to trust, so I got second and third opinions from other HVAC companies -- they confirmed the system size was correct for the house, and that the ductwork should have been upsized at the original install. My own Manual J calculations agreed with Jeremy's. Notably, Jeremy was the only installer I could find who was actually willing to run a Manual J. He also followed through on pulling permits and getting the city inspection scheduled. Airco worked to schedule the new duct installation during the one week we'd be in town -- during peak season, no less -- and their crew moved fast and stayed professional, which I appreciated given how brutal a Texas attic is this time of year. A few days in, the system is no longer short-cycling, and indoor humidity has dropped to about 63%. Still a touch higher than ideal, but we think we can chase the rest of it down -- possibly window seals, possibly fan settings or duct leakage. I was impressed enough that I also used Airco for a plumbing call this week.

I wanted to share my experience with A-US Air Cond of Texas so others know what to expect…read more My AC went out on Thursday, and American Home Shield assigned A-US Air Cond of Texas to my service request. I was told I would hear from the contractor within 24 hours. Late Friday evening, I received a text from the technician asking if a Saturday appointment window of 10:00 AM-1:00 PM would work, and I confirmed immediately. Saturday came and went with no arrival, no call, and no update. By 2:00 PM, I had attempted to contact the technician several times before finally receiving a response that he was still on another job. He ultimately arrived around 3:00 PM and completed the visit. I understand that delays happen, especially in the HVAC industry during busy seasons. My frustration wasn't that the technician was running behind--it was the lack of communication throughout the day. A quick text letting customers know you're running late can go a long way and helps people plan their day accordingly. The service itself ended up being fine, but the communication and customer experience could definitely use improvement. Hopefully this feedback helps future customers and encourages better communication when schedules change.

A-US showed up the next day, replaced a capacitor, and rolled out before testing anything. I called AHS because the unit still was not cooling after replacement. they sent them back out, the guy that showed up second seemed really helpful. he tried to add freon and the pressures wouldnt change. he went to the attic and found a massive leak in the unit. he told AHS I needed a new indoor and outdoor unit. a WEEK later, they were out to replace the unit. it didnt go well. the tech spent about 3 hours trying to get this fancy unit to connect to the fancy thermostat. glad they upsold me on junk. after that, he gave up, left a note that the thermostat needed replaced. fast forward to the next morning, new tech shows up, troubleshoots it to a bad thermostat, LEAVES TO GO GET A THERMOSTAT!!! 3 hours later, shows up, replaces it, it connects, AC starts working finally. the note said it was a bad thermostat and he wasted 5 hours because he didnt bring one with him. Also, my thermostat is still just hanging by the wires today, a week and a half later, because they didnt have a backplate. Now, less than a week later, it can't connect to the unit again, and my upstairs is over 90 degrees inside. called on Wednesday, they hoped to be out Thursday, but made an appointment Friday just in case. These guys have the nerve to send a text Thursday late (5:15pm) when they close at 5, telling me they have to cancel my appointment and move me to Monday. They absolutely suck. First would be dont get AHS, but if you do, try to have them use someone else for AC before A-US. this has been an awful awful awful experience. A-US doesnt deserve the 1.8 stars it has on yelp.

Overall Alamo was responsive, good service, and fixed the issue. They showed up within 15 minutes…read moreof when they said, which is hard to find these days. I basically knew what the issue was, (a bad capacitor), but they did their due diligence and checked both the indoor and outdoor unit anyway to make sure nothing else was going on. They were able to swap out the capacitor and were in and out of the visit in less than an hour. The only negative I'd cite is the price. Every business needs to make money which is great, but I found their pricing to be higher than most, so keep that in mind as you are looking at options. The capacitor I had changed was ~80$ part and they charged $500 to swap it, so essentially 400/hour for labor. I also had them quote me replacement for a $200 fan and they quoted $950, so you get the idea. If you are looking for someone competent who can do the job right I think Alamo is solid. If you are more cost conscious and don't mind shopping around you can get things done a lot more reasonably IMO.

I do find them, unsurprisingly, rapidly responsive after they submit a quote. Then, there are the coupons, with the fine-print disclaimers. In my case, a $150 "special" promotional discount vanished when we removed a short run of basic flex duct from the scope of work. No explanation was given about the discount's removal. It just vanished from the quote. Awesome HVAC company, if you can tote the note, and navigate the, sometimes disappearing, morass of their special promotions, discounts, and coupons.
