I dropped by shortly before close on a Saturday. As a person that will try almost anything, I let the barista work up a honey vanilla latte. Although I prefer more sweetness to my coffee I obliged by not adding anything artificial to his creation. He shared with me that all of their flavors are made in house and they also offer a few seasonal flavors too. When I visit again in Fall, I'll pop back in to see what's on the menu. Reason number 72 that I could not be a real food critic: I have a really hard time being critical of kind people. This is especially true when I interact with owners, managers, and other senior staff at restaurants who go out of their way to show me a good time. That's the position I found myself in today at 29th Parallel Coffee. It's a small shop run by a very nice man who is doing his best to produce a quality product his customers will enjoy. The way he welcomed me to his shop very well may have swayed me from a 3-star review to a 4, but service does count. My recommendation is to eat breakfast before you come here for your morning coffee. The food selection is minimal and the bagel, egg, and cheese sandwich wasn't particularly good. I don't believe you can make any modifications and I was surprised that my bagel sandwich came on a cheese bagel by default. But this is a mom and pop coffee shop, so I chose to focus more on the coffee, which is made with care. They use high-quality beans and I really appreciate that they serve time- and labor-intensive pour-over coffee rather than serving me coffee out of a giant silo that has been sitting there for hours. The serving size was a bit small and it wasn't as good as coffee from a place like Philz, but it's probably one of the better coffees you will find in Fairfax. I'm also putting a little faith in my fellow Yelpers here. I read many of the reviews from the last year and people seem to love the specialty coffees that I have yet to try. I'll be back to try a cortado soon, but for now I'm giving 29th Parallel the benefit of the doubt with four stars. read more

Tucked away next to the Fairfax Station Post Office in a small strip mall, it is not easy to find if you are just passing by. I will tell you that you absolutely have to find it and visit! Our neighborhood has tons of Starbucks but no indie coffee shops. I am not a fan of SBX so I am always on the lookout for alternatives. 29th Parallel has a small menu which I rather like. They don't use "fancy" names that confuse the consumer. Baked goods are made fresh daily and are crafted to compliment the beverages. I had the chocolate croissant with my chai at the recommendation of the owner. Wow... it was such a great pairing. Speaking of chai, it isn't mix out of a box like SBX... not at all... The owner custom blends the spices to make his own chai base and it is possibly the best chai I have ever had. It has a slight peppery bite along with a smoothness of other spices. The presentation of beverages is amazing! They use the foam to make hearts and leaves on top which is so artistic and pretty cool! If I had one critique, it would be that they need more seating and a bit of rearranging. There are several tables for six that can be split apart but it is awkward to sitting that close to others who you don't know. Even this will not cause me to take away any stars! read more

Awesome little gem tucked away in such an unexpected location! Can't believe I didn't know it existed despite living so close by. It's right next to the Post Office in the plaza near Burke/Fairfax Station with the La Tolteca, Gold's Gym, and Advanced Auto Parts (it's no wonder I was really surprised to find out there was a coffee shop - and a good one, at that - nestled amidst these places!). The service was really friendly, and I love the neighborhood coffee shop feel where interactions are personalized and drinks feel like they're made with care (vs. the usual high turnover, overly transactional Starbucks vibe). So far I've only tried one thing, the mocha (with no creative adjustments on my part, though I appreciated being asked if I wanted any), and it was delish and pretty (gotta admit there is a certain irrational joy that comes with getting a drink that has a cute foamy design adorning the top). I originally came here to catch up with a friend for a bit, and it was a good spot for that (especially during a weekday afternoon, which is when I went). I then stayed back for a while to get some work done and the atmosphere was perfect for that as well - very relaxing and made it easy to concentrate. I especially liked that I could sit there for a few hours without feeling any pressure from staff to hurry up or buy something else. My only concern would be that there aren't a ton of tables and those that do exist can only seat 1-2 people each, so it'd be tough to come here with more than one person and it could get hard to find space to sit (even alone) when it gets busier. But for now I'm just really happy to have found this place. :) I'll no doubt be back and will be sure to tell my friends about 29th Parallel too! What a treasure! I've been here a few times both for quick pick-me-ups and while doing work. It's located in an unassuming shop plaza, next door to the Fairfax Station Post Office. When you walk inside 29th Parallel, you're enveloped in a warmth and invited in by delicious, rich coffee smells. It is decorated beautifully and is accented even more by the gorgeous espresso machine and pour over station, etc. Now, for the coffee and service. I usually order classics and don't add sugar to my drinks. This also allows me to taste the actual coffee and enjoy the flavor and quality of the milk. 29th Parallel's products are extremely delicious and high quality. Small coffee shop in a corner in the shopping center but great drinks that taste good

First impression: relaxing jazz music, great natural lighting, and super nice owner/manager (as soon as I walked in with my laptop, he got up and offered me the table he was using). I ended up getting the honey latte. It was delicious, and very instagram-able :3. Stayed basically till closing doing work on my laptop (they have chargers right next to the tables!)...and there are sofa chairs by the window. It's not just a business for them. The owner seems to genuinely want to build a connection with his customers. I think that's such a wonderful thing that I personally have not come across very often in the food and beverage industry. Side note: I ordered the Nitro Tea and it was very good. Highly recommend! CONS: (very minor) - I came on a Sunday afternoon with the intention of getting a few hours of studying in. I was lucky to find one available table near an outlet for my laptop. This is a small coffee shop located in a strip mall. It's a must stop for a good cup of joe with the deliciousness of PT'S coffee beans. The shop offers some homemade bake goods that I didn't partake in this time. Damn diet! They did look good to include biscotti, blondes, granola bar, etc. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by a friendly gentleman who unfortunately I didn't get his name. My coffee connoisseur friends swear by this place, so I have been here a few times. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, and as such, had never heard of pour over coffee until coming here. Turns out it's quite good. Upon walking in, you are greeted by the wonderful aroma and even when they are busy (as they have been each time I have been there) the staff is quite friendly. I like their mocha and I love the design the barista pours into the top of the froth. I have to say though, I feel that they are under staffed. It's a small shop, but from what I have seen it does a fair amount of business and I feel like there is only ever one person behind the counter; which makes them have to scramble to fill orders. Other than that it's exactly what you would want out of a coffee shop. Good product, nice vibe, friendly people. read more

29th Parallel Coffee, we are finally reunited! I recall the last time my boyfriend and I visited was when this place was along Route 29 (couple years ago). But ever since then, we didn't know where the coffee shop moved until we saw on Yelp the location changed. The coffee shop is now located at Fairfax Station. We visited at a right time when there weren't many customers. My boyfriend ordered the Nitro Coffee ($4.50) and I ordered an Iced Large Caramel Latte ($4.45). If you want to come here and do some work, make sure you either come when they first open or during non-rush hours. This place typically gets filled quickly, so you'll have to find another place to do work. It's very limited seating but there's also several seats at the bar too! The owner is friendly and likes to engage conversations with his customers. He talks to them as if he knows them for a long time! I've noticed that when every customer walks into the coffee shop, he'll automatically have a great conversation with them. Let's get down to coffee. The owner is one of the best baristas in NoVA. He knows how to make a delicious latte. He combined the right portions of everything in my mug and I can also taste the caramel flavor as well. When I got my drink, he actually made a hot Caramel Latte instead of an iced one. I decided to let this slide though, since the hot latte was still delicious! 29th definitely knows its coffee. After talking to the guy about what to order I decided on the sumatra pour over. What wasn't cool is that when he gave it to me he did that 'oh by the way I was out of that so I gave you' the whatever it was. Lucky that was he gave was was very good but come on, don't use your knowledge to think you know what I want. As far as the interior, please do stain that long bench. It just looks awkward as much as all of the building materials lain about. I don't think you are supposed to do that. Even after all this, I looked past of what it is and will hold with 3 stars. One of my favorite local coffee shops! I was heartbroken when they moved from their original location but happy to find them at their new spot in Fairfax Station! I am a fan of the coffee and the vibe here! The owner knows coffee and they have a variety of drips, espresso drinks and teas. I am sad they no longer serve the matcha green tea latte, as it's one of my ordering staples. Apparently it wasn't being ordered as much and the matcha has a shelf life. I hope people keep requesting this drink so it can come back on the menu...... Otherwise, great coffee, great service and great small space to get your morning drip! read more

The location has moved (to a spot even closer to my house!) but the customer service and quality of drinks remains the same! It's a small little spot in the same strip mall as the Gold's Gym (right next to the Fairfax Station USPS), but the owner is super friendly, my dirty chai with almond milk was excellent (not too sweet, not too hot -- just right!). I can easily see this becoming a regular spot to set up shop for the day, sipping on coffee, snacking on one of their tantalizing-looking baked goods, and getting some work done. Such a cozy coffee shop! Stumbled across this coffee shop, thanks to Yelp! I was craving a good pour over and wanted to go to a place that I know would do it right. The good reviews won me over and here I am sipping my drip away. Delicious beans! The owner (I suspect he's the owner) was so friendly, and the coffee shop has a old bar vibe in that the people know the owner so well. A good sign of plenty of relationships built around coffee in this place. Not too many seating available but the place isn't so crowded during off hours (11ish).
