I recently discovered this business and I'm so glad I did! I needed to run by Gun Pro and grab a cleaning kit for my guns the other day, and decided to stop in to 295 Tactical on my way home to check it out. I recognized the owner as being a member of the Springfield Police Department SWAT Team, so I figured it would be an interesting visit. I love a good local business to get behind and support, and this is definitely one I can love!
I walked in and was greeted by Donnie Myers, who owns the shop. I wandered for a few minutes while he was helping another customer. I noticed he had quite the selection/display for Crimson Trace lasers. I've been looking for one and debating buying one for a gun I own. So that started the conversation. He looked up exactly what I needed and gave me prices on all of the options I had. He charges less than the retail price, which is awesome. I am always price checking before I buy and comparing. I especially compare to larger stores like Cabela's. There was no pressure to buy it right there. He wrote everything down and handed me the card, telling me when I was ready to buy it to come back and how long it would take to ship/arrive at the store.
Earlier today, I went back in and bought a Glock handgun I had been looking at during my first visit. I had tried to buy this exact one from Cabela's previously, and it was literally crap. I've never known someone who could destroy a Glock, but the previous owner managed to, and I had to return it to Cabela's. Donnie had the Glock I wanted, and it had belonged to him previously. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but I have great faith in buying a used gun from a cop, as it's typically well cared for. We took it apart so I could see inside of it, and it was in pristine condition. I was able to show him pics of the one I returned and compare them. The price was excellent. My best friend is a cop, and he basically told me for the price I paid and everything I got with the gun, I pretty much stole it. I'm all about a good deal, so this was music to my ears! He made sure that I had the extended magazine for this gun, as that is what fits my hand the best. He noticed this when we were talking about it the other day, and brought it up again when I actually purchased the gun. Remembering something that simple is impressive to me.
Donnie is all about customer service, as a small business has to be. He wants his customers to be happy and to come back. So he really works hard to not only find the right items you need, but give expert advice and information to go with it, and from a cop perspective. That can be priceless, in my opinion. We talked in detail about some issues I'd been having and why I wanted guns, plus the ones I currently own, and what I'm looking for in the future. I left feeling good about the choices in guns that I had made, and feeling better armed with more information.
Donnie also teaches classes. This excites me beyond measure. Classes about guns from not only a cop, but a SWAT officer. Awesome! He teaches concealed handgun courses two days a week, every other week. He posts these events on Facebook, so it is exceptionally easy to either sign up there or call and be added to the list of participants. It costs $55 for 3 hours. I'm looking forward to taking this class with my husband.
Would I return to this store? Absolutely! I can't recommend this place enough, honestly. It is worth the time to stop in and see Donnie. It's a great local business, so he's not just about getting things out the door and making money. He's about customer service and finding what is right for YOU, because that differs from person to person. His prices are excellent. I have no complaints, and I look forward to going back in the future, as I add accessories to my guns and take the concealed handgun class with him.
