Had a good experience with Springfield Rentals. Called ahead for pricing and then reserved a stump grinder. The price was $131.00 for 4 hours, plus a couple dollars for rental tax. They gave me a demo on how to operate the grinder and I had no problems with it. You'll want to wash down and fill gas before returning. The grinder does a great job chewing up the stump. read more

Our experience with Springfield Rentals didn't start out horrible. In fact, we rented trailers from them three times and were quite pleased with how easy it was... and then we started having major issues. There were two incidents this last year where the trailer was incorrectly connected to our truck: the first resulting in the trailer brakes locking up before we even pulled onto Main Street (they were able to fix it before we left the lot -- thankfully it didn't happen on the highway or in traffic); the second time, the trailer wasn't secured onto the hitch properly and it popped off, slamming into the gate of my truck, causing $2,000 worth of damage. Both times it was on Springfield Rental for not putting the trailer on the truck correctly. When we contacted them about the damage to the gate of the truck, they were apologetic, claiming that they "always make things right" and would see what they could do to help us with the repairs. We didn't expect them to pay for the whole repair... just SOMETHING. Even covering the deductible would have been an act of good faith. Then it just got worse. We were told that we would be contacted once they were able to talk to the "boss." We literally called back at least 15 times over the course of 4 months trying to get some resolution -- each time we were told "We're not trying to brush you off"... "We're so sorry to keep you hanging"... "We'll get back to you this week". It was all BS. We finally just gave up and decided that it would be less stressful for us to deal with it on our own and stop waiting for them to make it right -- because they obviously weren't going to. The whole situation was so poorly managed and we felt deceived every step of the way. Such a bummer. Hopefully they can work on their integrity, customer service and teach their crew how to properly install trailers so they don't keep creating safety hazards and causing damage that they aren't going to take responsibility for. We will not be giving Springfield Rentals anymore of our business. read more

Love these folks here at spfd rentals. Ernie has been taking care of me for years now and I always look forward to doing business with them. I'm generally in here to grab an excavator... but I've rented all kinds of equipment from them now. If something breaks while you're working, Jeff is pretty quick to remedy the situation or if they cannot get you fixed and moving again, they're more than fair on the billing side of things. I use to work for a guy who had me pick up an excavator to dog swales for good will industries... he had me doing the work and renting the machine under my name on the company card. Well... come Friday I've completed the work I could perform and was headed off to a weekend. So the boss decided he'd try his hand at running the equipment and wound up rolling the machine over. He of course lied to the boys here about the damages and I was shortly after laid off due to lack of business. Unbeknownst to me... the folks at spfd rentals tied my name to the damages and had banned me from renting here. So I roll up to get a machine a year or so later for my own side job and that's when I discovered I had been banned and why. Clearly I could've rented at a number of places and just moved on. But business is about relationships, and I pride myself on treating everyone well & fair. So I plead my case and did all the explaining/apologizing I could. Jeff listened and decided to take a shot on me again and it's been great ever since. I think That's a testament to the kind of people who operate this business. They treat you well and fair... even if they've got reason to believe you might not do so in kind. My only "knock" on spfd rentals is that they still don't offer 10k lb or larger excavators. C'mon boys! Let's get one of them caterpillar 304CR (or equivalent). :) Always a pleasure though. I look forward to years of patronage here. read more

I have passed by this place a million times over the years and never really thought about it. I saw fairly heavy equipment outside, but that was the extent of my knowledge about this business. I had been looking for a piece of equipment to pull off a car part last week. It was proving to be very difficult. I tried several auto parts stores, and nothing worked. An employee at Knecht's recommended this place. I went in with my friend Coco, and explained what we needed. I honestly figured based on all of the equipment outside, the item I needed would be far too small and not something they had available, and it would simply be one more dead end. Boy, was I wrong! Which is my absolute favorite thing to have happen. I love having a bad expectation and being proven wrong. We talked to a guy named Tim, who not only knew exactly what we needed, gave us some instructions, and had the bolts we needed! The bolts were worth their weight in gold alone. I could have actually hugged Tim for knowing what we needed and having them on hand. I was that excited, given trying to find those stupid bolts was a massive, time-consuming pain in my ass. In terms of the bolts, everything we found was literally a hair too big or too small. I needed one in the middle, and it was literally impossible to find. Until Tim. Lol. A little later, I called Tim back and asked him if he had longer bolts. They were the right size in width, but not long enough. He sent me to another business nearby, and even said he would buy them from me once I was done with them. That way he had them on hand, in case another customer like myself needed them. So buying new bolts that were longer wasn't going to cost me anything. Even better! I also loved that he keeps a personal collection of items like that to help customers like that. Makes me respect him and this business even more. The price of the rental was cheap. For the pulley thing, it was a whopping $10. I have no idea what it costs to rent larger equipment from them, but to buy that specific item it was $40 at Knecht's. I really didn't think it was a bad deal. Especially when I'm supporting a local business, who not only gives great advice and customer service, but sent me to another local business for the rest of what I needed. Nothing excites me more than one local business helping another. Based on all of these things, this is a business I can definitely get behind and support! They were nothing but warm, welcoming, and helpful when we went in. Sadly, I am always amazed when I walk in to a "male" type business, and am treated with nothing but respect. Think car dealerships, auto shops, home improvement stores. Normally when two women walk in to places like this, I fully expect the stereotypical condescending attitudes because based on our body parts, we can't possibly know what we're doing. I had none of that here, and that makes me respect this business that much more! It will also bring me back should I ever need anything along these lines. It is definitely worth the time to make a quick call or stop in here and see if they carry what you're looking for. Called a day ahead to reserve a 6" chipper. They were ready for me when I got there and the friendly curly haired guy in the yard was fast, thorough, courteous and professional. Showed me everything I needed to know about the machine and how to operate. The machine was in perfect condition and well maintained. It was a Vermeer, a real beast. We have always went through Springfield rentals for their two horse slant load trailers. We have never had any problems renting from them. We called them today to see if we could rent one and the guy on the phone was completely RUDE! They have always been nice to us and rented us great things. But unfortunately after today's phone call and the rude tone of voice we got made them lose two very loyal customers...We will take our business elsewhere from now on. Lesson learned. read more

Warning!! Check your equipment before you rent it and sign that you are responsible for all repairs, because they rent out old and worn out equipment. Springfield Rentals rents old and worn out equipment. They make the customer pay for repairs on their equipment when it is rented with a flat tire, bad wheel bearings, old and worn out. The rep who rented it said it would be fine, however it wasn't fine. The tire when flat after driving only a few blocks. The wheel bearing froze up and the wheel broke off. The equipment is worn out and they don't back up their word.We will never use this company again! if you choose to then do so at your own risk! Beware! read more

I returned a cement mixer late and they were about to charge me extra. I explained that my wife was delivering our 2nd child and couldn't return it any sooner so they dropped the late fees and said congratulations! This doesn't seem like much but it tells you all about what type of company you're dealing with. it's not a large, greedy corporation that doesn't care and will milk you for every penny that they can. When the "mechanic" was setting up the chipper I rented, he topped off the hydraulic fluid tank with gas. I pointed out his mistake, and he said it would be fine, and the gas would simply work as a cleaning agent as it ran through the machine. This didn't sound right to me, but I was in a hurry to get to work. After about an hour, the chipper started belching gas and hydraulic fluid all over my customer's beautiful, spotless driveway. I waited for 2 hours for the service tech to arrive, because he couldn't find the address I was working at. The chipper blades were incredibly dull too, so the chips came out in all different sizes and shapes, instead of nice looking chips that can be used for landscaping, like my customer wanted. When I complained and demanded it, they refunded half of my rental fee; But made no offer to clean up the mess. I'm glad they owned up to their mistake, and I feel like the guy managing the place is honest, but I won't be going back. They need to service their equipment more frequently, and hire some competent mechanics. Do not sign the form that says "you are responsible for all damages" until you've thoroughly inspected the machine yourself. read more
