CHICHA San Chen - Green tea + milk + boba

CHICHA San Chen

Chinatown, Sharpstown

Aside from their name that is really hard to remember, I've heard about how good the tea was but…read morenever stopped by because of the hype and lines when they initially opened. Luckily there wasn't a line. I picked up a green tea passion fruit tea and was surprised how tasty it was! The drink was a pretty yellow hue with passion fruit seeds at the top. The green tea flavor wasn't overly strong or dry wnd was very fragrant-- super tasty~ It came in a recyclable little sling carrier too, super cute :) I love how the brand focuses on real fruit, milk/cream so there aren't any artificial ingredients lurking around. You can order at the kiosk or at the cashier. For sweetness customization, they only have full level, less sweet, and no sugar options. The less sweet is already plenty sweet for me, so wish there was a slightly less sweet option than that. The service was polite and friendly, and the inside was clean with several tables. Besides the great taste, I really appreciate the "no artificial stuff" way of doing things. After one drink I'm Chicha San Chen fan! Be sure to stop by sometime and try their tea :D

Staff is very friendly and helpful in explaining the different team options and flavors. There is even a tasting station where fresh tea is brewed for interested customers. All tea drinks are freshly brewed (very cool to see the brewing process), so fragrant. The taro balls and boba are also very nicely cooked and tasty! The store is clean with several tables for sitting down and chit-chatting. Although price is higher than other boba tea places, their quality truly is more superior. Chicha San Chen is definitely one of the top places to go for boba and tea!

I sought this place out, specifically to try the famous Soufflé Pancakes I've heard so much about…read more To my knowledge, this is the only place in the Houston area that makes them, so it was a no-brainer. Did they live up to the hype? Heck yeah... The words, "soufflé pancakes" really are perfect in describing this very unique treat. The texture is soft and light, and the flavor is spot on pancakes. I tried two of their flavors: original (butter with honey drizzles) and pistachio. OMG these were truly heavenly! The classic buttery flavor on the original was wonderfully classic. But I would have preferred maple syrup over honey. The pistachio was OUTSTANDING. Same light, fluffy pancake base, but that pistachio cream was dreamy creamy! True pistachio flavor, and the cream was so satisfyingly silky (say that 10 times fast :) On this dish alone, I would easily give Sweet Memes five stars. The deduction is for the place itself... service was very friendly, but the restaurant felt quirky: decor is kitschy Asian. I'm not likely to eat onsite, but I'll definitely be back to try more flavors.

Sweet Memes is a small, quaint cafe that is decked up in decor, and sometimes I feel it has too…read moremuch going on. The furniture has a pink and white theme, and there aren't enough outlets (1-2) available for digital work. In addition, the small tables and seats at the back are too close for comfort. These features make the place less appealing, as offering more space and lighting, and providing online access is more equitable to what customers need nowadays. There is a porch bench swing that rocks back and forth and will hit the sofa behind it, so sitting on the sofa will be irritating because you will feel the whack of the porch swing thumping at you. Also, this place is loud with a lot of chatter (stopped by 4 times). The staff are friendly and polite, and the desserts offered are a variety: drinks, crepe, cake, pancakes, and more. I like the smashed young coconut drink - very rich and plentiful, but I have to ask for a cup of crushed ice to lessen the density of the drink/dessert. I also like the fresh very berry smoothie and the passion fruit (with mixed fruit) tea drinks as well.

I love going to coffee shops that have my name in them ;)…read more No but for real, Yemeni and Turkish coffees and teas anyways hit the spot. Pair that with my love of pistachio, and you've got a match made in heaven. This place looks ethnic, modern and clean. There's a painting of a woman on the wall who stares over us as we eat cake. We were lucky enough to come on a gloomy afternoon, my favorite a way to go to a coffee place. I tried a multitude of desserts, and they were all good. We also had four separate drinks, and they were all good. The cheesecake, milk cake and honeycomb bread were all good. The bathrooms were nice and clean. Overall- would definitely go here again!

The vibes reflect their culture well and I'm here for it. They have a bunch of pastries and a wide range of coffees to choose from. I tried the rose Adeni chai. I don't know about the rose part of it. It was basically the a cold foam part of it but I don't feel like the flavor tasted like rose or anything, just had the pink color. The Adeni chai did taste authentic. I also tried the Turkish coffee and that was strong and bold. I don't feel like the taste was too strong for me though, it was easy to drink. I also liked the presentation of the coffee. They put it in a traditional coffee pot. If you like strong coffee then this is for you. I tried the meat samosa and it was crispy and the inside was a mix of onions and minced meat. It had a nice texture for me but the inside wasn't to my flavor of taste. That's just in my opinion because I don't like onions. I then tried the Knafeh cheesecake. The Knafeh wasn't as crunchy as I thought it would be but the cheesecake portion was just like an original cheesecake, tangy and rich. I enjoyed the cheesecake. I guess I was expecting of a more of Knafeh taste like the top would be like half Knafeh instead of like sprinkles. Nevertheless, it was still good it just wasn't what I expected.
