The food needs better flavor and the ambiance is like walking into a brewery with no unique decor. However the service is alright. There are better upscale Chinese restaurants to try. read more

Wow, this place went way beyond expectations and is quite the hidden gem. A great place for a date night, as it's all shared plates/tapas style. The presentation in every dish was exquisite, it was like eating edible art. I wish I had taken more photos but seriously, I couldn't wait to dig in. We began with the sliced beef which was delicious. Then we had the stuffed chicken. I don't know what it was even stuffed with but it was damn good! The technique alone is unmatched. The noodles were one of our favorites. It's served with braised nuts that we thought was beef at first. We also got the pork belly. It was perfectly cooked on a seasoned bed of rice so good we asked for an extra side. They also have a full bar and lots of beer, wine, seltzers to choose from. 24 Suns has exceptional hospitality, some of the best service we have ever had. Kevin and Garrett were extremely attentive to every detail and anticipated all of our needs. We bought one of the cook books on display featuring the chefs recipes and they even came out to sign it and introduce themselves. That was super cool. Anybody who's worked in the industry or opened a business knows good things take time and of course, money. Don't judge a book by its cover and check this place out. These guys have some serious potential and are going places. We can't wait to come back for more great food and good vibes. read more

No Sunshine, Just a Bad Moon Rising We came here with high expectations due to the pedigree of the chef-owners, the 5-star reviews on the internet, and the menu which featured some of our favorite things to order at a restaurant - duck and whole fish, which we ordered. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The entire experience can be summed up as weird, and not good-weird. The Fujian Half Duck "5 ways" was unique and interesting, but a bit bland. The duck leg was pretty good, the breast (usually my favorite part), was bland and a bit undercooked. One of the "5 ways" was the au jus which was delicious and helped the other 4 dishes. The salad with crispy duck skins was OK. One positive - the chef came out to explain the duck as it was being served. That was helpful, especially the advice about using the au jus on the other 4 dishes. The whole fish of the day (rockfish) was okay, but lacked flavor. If you want delicious, exotic whole fish, go to Dija Mara in Oceanside. We ordered 2 appetizers. The Shrimp Robuchon was delicious - the best thing we had all night. The Lap Yuk (preserved pork belly) had an unpleasant texture. When we arrived, we thought we might be in the wrong place. It is in a non-descript building in a strip mall with homeless people on the sidewalk. The restaurant looked as if it were closed and dark. A temporary sign above the door was the only giveaway that there might be something inside. The inside looked inviting, and the maître d seated us immediately. We were left unattended for a while. No water, no server - just a wine list that said whole bottles only. They seemed to be short on staff. The music was too loud to allow for easy conversation. They finally brought us water. The sun was in my eyes, and they had no way to block it. The server returned and focused on selling a whole bottle of wine. We asked for a menu which was provided, but the server did not explain anything about the unusual dishes. We were perplexed as the reviews said the wait staff took time to explain the unusual menu. They did not on this night. Our server did not know the menu or the proper sequence of serving customers. At one point we asked about wines by the glass, and he brought out that menu. We each ordered a glass recommended by the server that was good and well-paired with the food. They do not yet have their liquor license, so no cocktails. Too loud music, underwhelming food, and a non-engaged server. Sorry, but it is one and done for us. We will not be back. read more

They don't really want our business. We booked a week earlier, arrived exactly on time, sees two empty table each with two seats. Was told by the gentleman to wait so he can set the bar table... 5 minutes on the bar table still isn't ready. Seriously I am not that desperate to eat here. read more

Michelin quality dining without the set menu or price! We walked into the restaurant and were hesitant. Beyond glad we stayed. The first course (snacks) blew our minds. Wok greens and birds nest. The mushroom dumpling soup was equally delicious. The best course was the snapper. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. Dessert did not disappoint; if only we had room for more. Overall, the flavors and presentations surpassed our expectations. We were transported to China without leaving Oceanside. read more

What an absolute experience. It was an extremely comfortable environment and the food was outstanding. Service was on point and very educated on the ingredients and menu. Chef, thank you for coming out and greeting our table. Will be back and will be recommending to all of my friends. read more

We were lucky enough to meet the chef/owners at the Del Mar Food and Wine Festival and taste their amazing fried chicken. After that, we had to try the restaurant and it did not disappoint. The chefs are formerly from Addison. Although it appears that you have entered someone's living room when you arrive, the food and service are definitely fine dining with dishes designed to share. We had the bird's nest, tuna crudo, Dan Dan noodles, and of course, the fried chicken. We ended with the butterscotch and sesame seed bundino. They were extremely accommodating with my gluten allergy and are Celiac safe with a separate Fryer. Almost the entire menu can be made gluten free! The chef came out to speak with us during dessert which was so special. The restaurant is entirely self-funded by the chefs and you can tell their hearts are in it. We will definitely be back! Don't miss this one! read more

Had a nice meal there. And can't wait to return, I booked a week in advance at the bar seating, and when I arrived I decided to ask for a table. And with a little patience, since I know I'm not the only one needing service, I got the table and was grateful the staff made accommodations of last minute. I'm glad they let me wait in the lounge rather than waiting at the table waiting for service. Patience goes a long way. Thank you 24 Suns read more

I wasn't expecting to be blown away... but I was by the delicious and creative offerings of 24 suns. Its fine dining with Chinese influence. We had the fried chicken, sirloin beef, mushroom soup, crushed cucumber, sesame chocolate dessert. All tasted amazing! I've been to a handful of Michelin star restaurants in the past and this one can compete with those. Wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, reasonably priced for the quality. read more

The food had high and low points but after ordering 7 dishes amongst the table I'd say the overall sentiment was completely underwhelming. That paired with the high priced food and insanely priced alcohol ($20 can selling for $72) left us positive we would never return. I'd recommend spending your money on a place that provides true value rather than these over priced small underwhelming plates. The service was definitely on par with the pricing but other than that I'd say pass on 24 suns. read more

I went to this restaurant two times in 2024 and it was spectacular. I wish I could say the same for my visit last night. I'll start by saying last year the food had beautiful delicate blends of all kinds of Chinese flavors in innovative Asian fusion food. And the cocktails were amazing. Last night, despite seeing cocktails on the website, we saw they only have a beer and wine license right now. We ordered dumplings, sweetbreads, and a whole fried snapper. My overall impression was all the food had way too much sauce and very heavily flavored, not at all delicate. The dumplings were good and probably the best thing, along with the snapper which was cooked perfectly and delicious. The deep fried sweetbreads were bitter and greasy, and we had to send them back. I figured we would replace them with the Dan Dan noodles and some light crunchy cucumbers to break up all the heavy saucy food. The noodles came drenched in sauce, although it tasted good, and the crunchy cucumbers, were also so drenched in heavy sauce that it took away from the pallet cleansing I was hoping for. The place is adorable and the service impeccable. I don't know if there was a different Chef that night or what they're doing with their menu, but they need to ease up on how much sauce they pour on everything and how thick it is. A bit disappointing. read more

Not really quite sure what to rate this restaurant. First off, it's located in this strip mall where you won't even think a Michelin-guided restaurant will be in. They probably need to renovate the place to make it more appealing and to match the food they serve. Food was definitely so good! They were kind enough to give portions to everyone in our group. Server was very good - she gave great suggestions on what we can get and which ones were good. We got a couple if dishes which were really good! A good balance of heat and umami, the crunch when needed, and the softness of the meats. Unfortunately, we had to wait 30-40mins for our last 2 dishes to come out which was not even as good as the first ones that arrived. To compensate though, they offered us a top up of our drinks (wine, sake, and tea) which was kind of them. Overall, it was okay. They just opened so they have room for improvement so I'm excited for what's to come for this restaurant! read more

Everything we ordered was prepared with precision and care and tasted delicious. Service was attentive and informative about the dishes we tried that were not familiar to us. Wine selection was also very well thought out and delicious choices. Outside the place looks like nothing much, but inside very spacious and welcoming. Loved it so much that we have booked a table for our 40th wedding aniiversary dinner. This place takes chinese dining to a whole new and extraordinary level! read more

24 Suns takes Asian cuisine to the next level. The restaurant is in a dumpy strip mall, far from anywhere. And the interior, while nice, is distinctly austere. But make no mistake, the food here is just extraordinary. We started with the egg custard with pork belly, which is served in a tiny tureen and dessert spoons. But it is so rich, the flavors so intense, that you really don't need anything more. We also had the shrimp pot stickers and the wok'd local greens: both excellent. But the masterpiece was the Fujian Half Duck, a combination of duck prepared three ways. The ginger-braised and fried leg was wonderful, and I'd go back and order three legs, if I could! For dessert, we shared the Black Sesame Budino, which married deep chocolate with sesame: perfection! read more

Would give 30 stars if possible!!! This place is a hidden gem and the love, care, and passion of their craft is experienced in every bite. 24 Suns is a true game changer here in Oceanside. Our experience was unique and incredible; The food, service, and ambiance were impeccable. Our server, Arielle offered excellent service, she was attentive, friendly, and made our meal so enjoyable. Kyle offered a memorable tea experience, while storytelling and sharing the history of a beautiful and delicate pu'er tea. This is far and away the greatest Chinese food we've ever had, and the passion and thoughtfulness of the chefs and the entire team about the details of the cuisine shines through in every dish and interaction. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant! read more

Such friendly service and food is simply divine. Would recommend to anyone. The birds nest and the dumplings are insane

Delicious flavors and interesting menu with excellent service. The wine list is a bit pricey.

On the positive, the food was very good. I've eaten good Chinese food on three continents and every major U.S. city and this was very good. In the so-so category I'd place the ambience (a not nice strip mall) and service (ok, but not expert or attentive). In the bad category is the price. It's crazy expensive - easy to spend more than $130 per person on food. That's bonkers. It's close to where I live (sort of) and I love quality Chinese food, but I won't be back. I'd rather go to a price fix place with great everything for the same price. read more

Date night perfect My husband found this place on yelp, and we both sort of scratched our heads about the location. Being Osiders for the last 17 plus years, we know the area well, and this side of Mission isn't necessary where you would find a fine dining, Michelin experience. The little center is dated, but not a dangerous part of town, just a humble strip mall. 24 suns seems very casual from the outside. Husband says- it's ok if you want to go somewhere else. Except, I'm always game to try something new. Let's not judge a book by its cover! It is a weekday and not busy and we are the only others in the space besides one other table of two. The space is nice inside, you can tell it was remodeled and updated. It's not modern, but unique art lines the walls. The menu is very small. We don't drink, but I glanced at the cocktail menu. I regret not trying the mocktail, but wish they had a few more selections that are non alcoholic. I am Taiwanese and grew up eating around the world, but mostly Chinese/Taiwanese food. Knowing this is a fusion style restaurant, I kept an open mind. The bird's nest swordfish rilette was the most unique and tantalizing dish. The smokiness of the swordfish paired with creamy coolness and cilantro was sublime and mild, but then, you get the most satisfying zing of pepper, and crispy lightness, leaving you slightly bewildered. So many flavors and so many textures in one bite, but somehow they are all cohesive. This dish alone is so unique and definitely one I will remember. Next, we had the shrimp and scallop jiaozi. The jiaozi were steamed nicely, and filling was not greasy, flavorful, but light. The surprise here was the butter sauce, smoked pineapple, and mint. When eaten altogether, the jioazi became quite a fusion of flavors, subtle, indulgent, but bright because of the mint. Lastly we tried the dangbo pork belly. The pork belly was nicely done, rich and succulent. But the star here is the rice. I never order rice at Chinese restaurants- but this is no ordinary rice- the textures and flavors of the candied anchovies just really elevated that rice, it mixed well with the pork belly sauce, and I wanted more rice! This was an experience we were not really prepared for. 24 suns is a fine dining restaurant, the portions are fine dining sized and fine dining priced, in the most unassuming neighborhood of Old Oceanside. This is not a place you take your hangry kids to. This is the kind of place where you take your time, and savor the bites and have conversation and a cocktail or two. I did not see dessert but I really wish I had looked and I wish they would have offered a unique dessert to end the dinner with, and clean the palate. I'm really rooting for the chefs and owners, and looking forward to checking out their next venture Swan and Fox. The service was excellent. Is 24 suns overdressed and fancy for the area? Maybe it is, but you would not balk or bat an eye at the portion size or prices, if they were in bougie Encinitas or uppity parts of Carlsbad. I'm happy we tried it on a whim, and looking forward to seeing the menu change for fall. read more

I can Tell you that the reviews on this place are one either fake or they have the wrong place' ! This business must be paying Yelp big bucks for these reviews. This place is located in the ghetto behind a gas station near Brother Benos on Mission way outside Oceanside. It's no where near where anyone would want to dine in. Let alone pay their ridiculous prices. Steer clear from The fake reviews and just look up the address that should have been our first clue! I no longer trust Yelp only because they have promoted other restaurants with the same fake reviews only to be let down. The place was empty! And the manager/waiter/cook/bartender was blowing up his menu on flavors suggestions etc, we just wanted to eat! The menu looked like it didn't belong to this janky bar/ drinks were ice over ice! The restaurant manager was all over the place the prices were ridiculous! And the took forever to get served, when we finally started in the food was greasy and flavorless nothing to Asian or Chinese food I don't know how to describe it other than bland and salty at the same time, complete bogus reviews in a ghetto neighborhood. We thought we were going to get robbed or something because the place was empty! read more

I've been looking forward to trying 24 Suns and it did not disappoint. I was completely impressed! The food was epic! I was hesitant to try the humble Mushroom Wonton Soup but was over the moon that I did! The broth was deep and complex and the dumplings were perfection. The Steak Tartar Tart was delicious with an unexpected spicy tartness that really elevated this dish. The Crispy Fried Chicken was perfectly crunchy with sauces that worked to add complexity and intrigue to this beautiful plate. The true star of the show was the service. Every member of the staff work flawlessly together. It felt like each person I spoke with genuinely cared about my dining experience. And, everyone did what they could to elevate it- in the most effortless and effective way. The wine list has been expertly curated, so please take full advantage of this epic aspect. I want these guys to succeed, I really do. But some work needs to be done. We came in on a Friday at 6:45 and only 3 other tables. First they need to work on decor and ambiance. All of the table flowers were 1/2 dead. Uncovered outlets and a mishap of wall art. Music was an 80s mix, kinda odd for an Asian fusion restaurant. We ordered 2 cocktails, the Spartacus and the Cruel Fengs Knees. Loved the creativity of these drinks. Flavors were tasty and well balanced. For food we ordered the Crispy Birds nest, the Drunken Shrimp and the Putanutsca. The Crispy Birds nest had great flavor but it was way too salty. The nest wtmma nice contrast. The Drunken Shrimp was just boring. Shrimp was chewy and bland. The Putanesca was our favorite. It was really flavorful. Loved the cooked nuts, sauce and noodles. When we asked for our check we got oolong tea ice cream. A really nice touch and great way to finish the meal. Another sidenote was, we loved the quality of the silverware and chopsticks. So much potential, we hope to come back and try again in the future. read more

We had a reservation for 5:30 for a special occasion. Walked in and no one was there to greet us. Finally after 10 minutes someone came over and then said she would be right back. We waited and then a guy came and tried to sit us at the bar even though we had a reservation. I asked for a table. We were sat at a table facing another couple (no privacy). We were given menus and told that he would be back to explain the menu. We literally waited 15 minutes without an explanation of the menu or a drink order. For the kind of place this is, I would expect a lot more. We were planning on getting a bottle of wine and trying the menu. This is a major disappointment because we drove from so far away and were really looking forward to trying the dishes. Oh well. read more

We've been watching The Bear and it makes us crave really delicious chef's dishes. We had a sudden opportunity to go out to dinner without the kiddo and sought out something delicious. By some miracle of the universe, I put into the search bar "Oceanside restaurants on Mission" and on the list was 24 Suns. Attracted by the name, I clicked the link and read about them. Chinese huh? Tasting menu? Pop up? I called. A man answered- did they have a reservation available? Yes! Lucky us! Each course was its own unique dish but they made sense transitioning from one to the next. The lily and leek dish was so rich and deep for being vegetarian. The halibut was perfect and savory. But the simple squash charred in bluefin fat, wow, took me right to the Oceanside pier, by the bonfire! Complete nostalgia! The meal was perfect. Delicious, unique and fulfilling. Thank you chefs! read more

The place is a hidden gem. The food is high end, top of the top. They look a bit shabby from outside and inside, but don't let it fool you. It's even more surprising when you try the food. It's funny, you would never think that the food and service is so good. read more

My family had dinner here tonight and were highly disappointed. The service was great but the food was not. Most of our dishes came out cold and super salty. Not worth the money at all. read more

My first impression was wow this place is a hidden gem it's nicely decorated and staff seemed very attentive. From first glance of the wine list I thought for glass in prices are high I'm ok with 17-20 at a nice restaurant but 25 a glass? I ordered the chard because the other wines were said to be very sweet (server knew nothing about wines) unfortunately It tasted old and like it had been open for several days. Didn't order any more drinks. The menu was limited maybe they are getting their footing and figuring out what works, okay understandable they are brand new. We ordered the chicken it was small and tasty. Then we ordered the shrimp appetizer but it never arrived, too bad. Then we ordered the king oyster (it's a mushroom!) of course it is but doesn't state mushroom so confused us. I asked how it was prepared the server said charbroiled so I assumed it was an oyster- our mistake lol. Presentation of said oyster lacked overall very underwhelming and bland. In fact oyster mushrooms are one of favorite so I wasn't totally disappointed when it came to us a mushroom. I get refinement but it's almost all the dishes are so refined you miss the flavor entirely. Trying too hard. Lastly we got the beef noodle, meh lacked flavor portion was tiny. Enjoyed the traditionalist style. We left hungry which I understand happens with fine dining . The worst part we Also felt like second class citizens while an apparent food critic or chef was having the tasting right next to us at the bar. Serving him like a king felt weird. Nothing he was tasting was offered on the menu. Felt odd and made us feel very unimportant. At one point a server popped by asked if were locals we replied yes happily and she quickly walked away said nothing no smile. All felt odd like she was checking if we were reviewers or influencers. Overall pass. Too bad could have been a great hidden gem. read more

Awful experience. First off, the decor is just plain cheap/tacky...not at all the kind of vibe to justify such outrageous food/drink prices. The lighting has no forethought and the music was a weird, loud and mostly depressing mix of 80s and 90s art rock (think Morrissey). The staff seem to know about the current condition of the place as they kept suggesting that we come back after the place is renovated. The drinks were weak and mostly ice. The manager, who was wearing too many hats, shared with us when we walked in that he and the chef were at odds on the menu for the evening. We should have taken that as a red flag. The tastes were off. After more than a half hour waiting for a $45 steak dish, we told the manager that we were done. He said that dish takes at least a half hour, a fact that he failed to inform us of when we ordered it. Surprising given that the place was virtually empty. They comped our drinks but not the overpriced steak which was not worth the wait. We grabbed a pizza on the way home which was not how we expected to end our evening. read more

We ended up at 24 Suns on a whim, do not, I repeat, DO NOT!!, let the outside of the restaurant or its location deter you. This place is beyond excellent!!! This was a restaurant that I had been looking forward to going to. So my friend and I took another friend for her birthday. The one small bite that was sent from the kitchen was yummy and probably the only great thing we ate. The birds nest and the shrimp appetizers were ok, they were fried, but instead of a golden brown, they were dark which can mean that the oil wasn't new or they fried for too long. We ordered the sautéed greens The fried chicken and the whole red snapper. The greens were enough for one person that should've been a larger plate for three people. The fried chicken was very odd tasting. The only good part of it was that it had crispy skin. The fish was disgusting. I think I took three bites, but it was bad... it smelled and any fish that smells is not good or fresh. My friend took the bulk of it to go for her husband just in case he was interested I don't know if he ate it. We ordered both of the desserts since it was my friend's birthday and the date cake came with two date pits embedded in it, which we could've broken our teeth on. I feel like interesting food shouldn't have to use such strange flavors to be considered good. It should be flavorful and excellent. The one odd part at the end was that when we split the bill into thirds on a $266 bill each of us got a bill for $132. When we caught the mistake, the girl redid the bill and then lost one of our cards all in all, I would never go back to this place, nor will I be telling my friends about it read more
