Great food and coffee. My go to quiet space to take the kids when they were little. Taking time to read with them or watch them work out how to play chess. A real hidden gem in this part of northern NJ. Make sure to say hi to the owner Hodge.

I've been a regular at Skiddoo for over a year now. It's been a comfortable place for me to decompress after taking a walk through the park or when I want to shut the world out for a bit. There's a lot of seating, some outside and love that they have free books. The coffee is great and consistent, the staff/service is always friendly and quick. Frankie, Hector, and the older gentleman who work there are so kind. Def worth a visit

I can't believe this hip place is 4 minutes from my job...in East Orange, NJ! So many types of beverages to drink and food to wash them down with. The employees are super personable and super cool. You can make anything with your imagination. Tons of space to sit and chat or you can sit outside. I go frequently for the matcha, but the pumpkin pie latte I had last time was phenomenal. The cookies and sandwiches are awesome too!

Excellent mochas and pastry, wonderful chill vibe, friendly owner, staff and even the other customers. Would definitely go out of my way to go again. Thank you!

Loved this hidden neighborhood gem. Cute little coffee shop nestled inside my friends neighborhood. Really great coffee selection and authentic macchiatos. Lots of pastries selection and a fridge with lunch items as well. Nice space for gatherings and seating outside. The customer Service is great and love to support local small businesses. Will be back.

Did you ever go to a place and think of it as your secret oasis? I am scared to write this, but that secret oasis in Essex County is 23 Skiddoo. This is a great cafe that is nestled in a Bloomfield neighboorhood. Not too far off the busy Bloomfield Avenue, but tucked in that no one will get distracted by the "outside world". It's the ideal place to simply enjoy good coffee and relax with friends, a book, or work. What makes this place ideal? First, there are no cellphones permitted. Okay, you can bring your cellphone in, but you're strongly encouraged not to use it. (Well, the suggestion is a polite sign, but you get the point. No cellphone conversations.). This is perfect because it feels that you can't go to any cafe and not hear someone acting as if they're working on some major business deal, making the cafe their WFH, or simply gossiping. At 23 Skiddoo, the ambient sounds of polite conversation are actually a joy. No one talking so loud that you become invested in their discussion. Just the hum of talking that you actually recall that, in a world of social media, conversation is a lost art. In adidition, the music is perfect for the cafe. Nothing too hipsterish or overly cool. Just the right sounds for a neighborhood hangout. The environemnt is open with a lot of natural light. They even have tables outside with umbrellas. It's just that today the sun is a bit too strong to want to sit outside. The staff? Polite and overly attentive. You can see that they're enjoying their work environment as well as the people who visit. I've been here a few times and they smiled as if to say, "Oh, you're that guy who was here a few days ago. Good to see you again!" The coffee is fantastic. I had a cold brew on each occasion (except for the first day when I had espresso.). 23 Skiddoo proudly serves Caffe Vita. (For those who like to frequent that ubiqitous coffee chain, yes, you can get flavors in your coffee.) Nothing in life is perfect but 23 Skiddoo tries. My only complaint is that the pasteries are a touch dry. Now, this could be because of the time of day I've been stopping by. But, the cinnamon roll or cruffin seems that it may be a day or two old. I should probably order something different the next time. Again, I'll chalk it up to me coming in later in the day. These days, everyone thinks they have the perfect concept for a cafe. Everyone thinks they know where to open one up. Most try and it's obvious they're trying too hard. Not 23 Skiddoo. They have the right place, with the right products, at the right time. I've been following their development on Instagram for a long time. I'm finally glad that i was able to finally stop by. I've definitely found my getaway place to relax this summer (and beyond)!

I am so glad this coffee shop opened in my neighborhood! It is a great place to come and meet up with friends, doing computer work, and playing chess! They have various options for hot and cold drinks. The coffee is roasted locally in Brooklyn and is very good. I have also gotten the local chai from Montclair and the matcha lattes. They have pastries from the famous Balthazar so they're also delicious. I hope they add more food options in the future because it could be a really cute breakfast and brunch spot on the weekends! There is a lot of space and tables to choose from with great art in the walls and lots of plants. I also like how welcoming they are of all community members such as LGBTQ, etc. It has a nice family feel since there are a lot of kids in the area too. The service is always very friendly and offering of water even when you've been there for a few hours like I have been while job hunting! Love this place!

Nice little cafe that is exactly what this neighborhood needs. You come for the coffee, tea and baked goods on hand but you stay for the chill setting. Easy listening, jazz music, fair amount of seating space, wi-fi and books or games on hand making it a place to really actually hang out at. I find Starbucks which seen as the leading place for this atmosphere to be dim and overcrowded and here its relaxed and low key at least for now. There are several hot and cold drinks available as well baked goods to snack on. Its a small time shop with some good character and great use of empty space in the neighborhood and is a great place to come by on for morning start or an afternoon pause. Hope to see Skiddo, stick around and encourage the surrounding fronts as well. Stop by and check it it out.

Was great when it first opened but something is off with the owner - I have issues with how he treats his customers.

I wasn't sure if it opened as I didn't see anybody inside at first. Then we opened the door and stepped inside, and called out. We found the employee sitting behind the counter, but the counter was so big that it obstructed our view of knowing they were there. Upon looking around, they had a nice assortment of pastries and baked goods, along with wrapped sandwiches from earlier in the day. I spied the baked goods section and could not resist getting a chocolate chip cookie as we eyed their baked goods. We decided to share since I need to watch my calories during the holidays. I want to celebrate Christmas, and not look like Santa. The employee there made two lattes for us and asked if we would like her to heat the cookie. Yes, please and thank you! Upon sitting down, I noticed the big grease mark on the napkin, so it should be noted that their cookies are made with high butter content. The chocolate chip cookie, though generously chipped and served delightfully warm, fell a bit flat on flavor. Similarly, the latte, while hot and satisfying, was overwhelmingly milky, lacking the robust punch of a quality espresso. Here is how it ranked: Chocolate Chip cookie: 3.5/5 stars. Good texture, high butter content, but flat taste. Latte: 3.5/5 stars. Nice and hot, good alternative milk option, but too mild on espresso. This cafe is a perfectly pleasant spot for a moment of refuge and a hot cup of something, especially if you're not concerned with a full-bodied coffee experience or a truly exceptional baked good. If you're out and about needing to warm up, it does the trick.

The first…read morething I noticed when I popped in was the menu was on a very fast rotation so that it was pretty difficult to read. I asked if they had a physical copy, which they did not. So even though they went digital only, they had no listed prices, which is annoying, especially if there was a line. It's just not the most ideal ordering experience. I did get a hazelnut frappe ($6.50) which was sweet and very thick. I was tempted and gave into a cinnamon role ($7.50) which they warmed up. Both were perfect sweet treats and didn't taste odd being vegan. The roll was huge. I probably shouldn't have gotten both because it was decadent, but they both rocked. There are a few chairs by the window, but there isn't a lot of space inside. The order did take a while to prepare, but it was interesting to try.

It's angled on a the corner of Broad and Belleville (which is cool bc of how it's situated) and when you walk in you know you're stepping a bit back in time bc some of the original features of the building are still evident which makes for a warm welcome. There's plenty of seating available if you want to stay and people watch out the window or post up and do a little work with a cushioned window seat and table. I didn't even realize they were vegan until the wonderful woman stated it as I inquired about the dairy choices (so this was my first time having a vegan iced coffee). I went with the Crème Brûlée iced with oat milk and it HIT! It was seriously one of the most delicious iced coffees I've ever had (& I drink a lot of iced coffee). I will certainly be back to support this business and I need everyone else to pay them a visit too bc they should have a lot more foot traffic on a Wednesday morning.
